Dutch artist Maurits Cornelis Escher was famous for his prints of repeating patterns. His compositions look like jigsaw puzzles or mosaics of strange worlds.

Karel van Kooning is a Dutch expressionist artist. He used colours to express emotions. For expressionist artists, blue was the most spiritual primary colour.

Antoni Gaudí and his recycled mosaics
Antoni Gaudí (1852-1926) was the architect who designed Park Güell. He made mosaics with broken pieces of tile to decorate the park and its fountains.
