Daniel Innerarity A master piece of art on Philosophy
If Thomas de Quincey thought that murder could be considered as one of the fine arts, maybe Philosophy has a few more merits to aspire to such consideration. Presenting Philosophy as one of the fine arts seems like a brave and daring effort. In some academical milieux, this classification of Philosophy amongst the fine arts will cause a sense of threatening against the intellectual and scientific category of their work. Contrary to these objections, Daniel Innerarity wants to express, in the first place, his refusal to a very common dichotomy: the one opposing all that is interesting –everything that gives sense to our own life– to all that is scientific, that is, what is rigorous and exact. This book claims the artistic condition of Philosophy. But maybe we should ask ourselves, what do Philosophy and Art have in common? Philosophy as an Art looks for the truth, but not in a consensus that abolishes differences, but through a productive disagreement.
Daniel Innerarity is a Philosophy professor in the Universidad de Zaragoza, and was a scholar at the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. His latest books are Ética de la hospitalidad, La transformación de la política, La sociedad invisible and El nuevo espacio público. He has been awarded with the Premio de Humanidades, Cultura, Arte y Ciencias Sociales de la Sociedad de Estudios Vascos/Eusko Ikaskuntza in 2008. He contributes regularly to the newspapers El País and El Correo/Diario Vasco, as well as to the magazine Claves de razón práctica. Antonio Salas A daring title. The truth of international terrorism
After six years infiltrating various terrorist organisations under the cover of the fictitious identity of Muhammed Abdallah, arises The Palestinian (‘El Palestino’), a startling chronicle in which the well known investigative journalist, Antonio Salas, tells us of his time living on the edge. In it he attempts to reveal to his readers what is true or false in the terrifying news which hits us day after day regarding the rising violence in the world. Spain, Palestine, Israel, Morocco, Tunisia, Syria, Mauritania, Venezuela, Egypt, Sweden and Lebanon are the settings for this unprecedented investigation, so valuable it goes beyond the limits of paper. Antonio Salas has designed a revolutionary web page, as a complementary guide to reading the book, with inedited material which will help to understand better the gigantic puzzle of international terrorism. The Palestinian is a new form of understanding investigative journalism.
Antonio Salas is the pseudonym of a well known investigative journalist who must keep his identity secret for obvious reasons. Since Diary of a Skinhead (‘Diario de un skin’), 2003´s best selling non-fiction book in Spain, he has received as much praise as he has death threats. He followed this title with another equally polemical: The Year I Trafficked Women (‘El año que trafiqué con mujeres’), where he centred himself in the white slave trade networks. His materials have been used as evidence in many cases such as that which ended in the conviction of Hammerskin España, and have prompted political actions such as that of the Mexican government ordering the investigation of the trafficking of girls from Chiapas.

Salas made himself known through Diario de un skin, published in 2003. For more than a year he infiltrated into the neonazi movements in Spain to explain how they work from the inside. Later on he infiltrated in the international prostitution rings and wrote El año que trafiqué con mujeres. Now, he has infiltrated for six years in the deepest of international terrorist networks. After six years of travelling around thirteen countries and four continents and spending “up to the last penny and up to the last drop of energy and strength”, Antonio Salas has described his experiences as a mole in the networks of international terrorism. A thorough investigation with surprising revelations. This book has been translated into Italian and Portuguese.

Fernando Savater Life and death by the Spanish most important philosopher
In the middle of the 21st century, religion is provoking passions, moving multitudes and being used as an excuse by terrorists and politicians. Those who have a purely scientiďŹ c view of the world are scandalised, while others consider a belief in some supernatural presence to be vital for us to be able to face life and, even more importantly, death. This is a book about religion, or more accurately, religions: what is belief? What do we believe in, or choose not to believe in? And, what relation do these beliefs share with our search for immorality? The book also explores the concept of truth, the difference between belief and faith, the non-dogmatic paths of the spirit, the political implications of orthodox fanaticism and the role of religious educat education in democratic societies. Fina Finally, above all else, the book iis about how we can learn to accept the inevitable presence of religion, w without panic or excess hope.

The keys to help children strengthen their self-esteem and fight for their own happiness.
Alicia Banderas Not so long ago, child psychology was based in the treatment of psychological disorders focused in the negative aspects, in deficits and in pathologies. Nowadays we know that the most effective thing is to reinforce the positive qualities of children, their virtues and their fortitudes. In her new work, Alicia Banderas uses her experience to help and teach parents and everyone involved in the field of education, to undertake the task of helping children to grow stronger so that they can fight for their own happiness. Hijos felices includes several cases studied by the author, and deliberates about the latest theories of the rising «positive psychology», and all written in a clear, direct and easy style.
The author is a famous Spanish psychologist, that sold abour 5,000 copies of his previous book, Pequeños tiranos. The book deals with a very upto-date subject: to reinforce the children’s selfesteem to avoid school failure, the feeling of failure in general or the need to be the best in everything.

Sylvia de Béjar This book is the natural followup of the book Tu sexo es tuyo. If the latter dealt with everything that a woman (and a man) must know about their sexuality to live it with the better conditions, this one tries to face the lack of desire and/or the differences with desire inside a couple. The final aim is to help couples meeting again or to help them avoiding sexual problems. The subjects that this book deals with are the pressure for desire, the lack of desire, the differences of desire inside the couple and how to overcome them, rediscovering desire or increasing it... It speaks about everything related to sexual desire and how it affects our lives and our couple relationships, so that we can all find the way to enjoy much more.

A very up-to-date book with the current debate on the Spanish autonomous regions.
Germà Bel This is the story of a journey through the last three centuries of Spanish history. Germà Bel starts out in 1561, when Madrid, was named the permanent seat of the Austrian Court. The apotheosis of the centralised State came in recent decades with the consolidation of Madrid’s economic importance. That is, the Paris of Spain, dreamed of by the first Bourbon monarchs and famous contemporary reformers alike. The book spells out the two critical factors of this process in a precise, accessible way: the political/ administrative centrality of Madrid and the centralised system of transport and communication.
A book about the permanent dispute amongst numeorus groups of people about the supremacy of Madrid over other Spanish cities and regions. A very well documented and pleasant book abouth the how and why has the current political and economical capital status of Madrid brewed.
Spain, Capital Paris Destino / 300 pages / October 2010 Germà Bel has a Masters in Economics from the University of Chicago, and a PhD from the Universidad de Barcelona. Between 2004 and 2006 he was a Visiting Professor at Cornell University, carried out research at Harvard and, later, at the European University Institute in Florence.
Beyond the economical and political sphere of infraestructures and communications, it is also an original and entertaining approach to the modern and contemporary history of Spain, written for a wide audience.
Since then he has focused on economic and political research into infrastructure, transport and public sector reform, on which subjects he also regularly writes for the press.

Javier del Campo & Luisa Martín-Cobo According to statistics, the plane is the safer means of transport, and, however, it is also the one that causes more distrust and fear amongst its users: one out of every four people is afraid of flying, and three out of four people feels some tickling in their stomach before boarding. The key to overcome this phobia is based under the basic knowledge of the air security systems, and of the training of the pilots, as well as of the basic laws of Physics. It is usually effective as well to follow certain appropriate psychological techniques of control and relaxation that might decrease anxiety and distress, and end up enjoying the travel and being able to work, read or simply rest while it lasts.
One of every four people is afraid of flying and three of every four feels distressed before boarding. Both authors are experts in the field of courses and lectures about losing the fear of flying. A serious book with many information unknown to travellers (aerodynamics, the Bernoulli’s principle, parts of a plane, air traffic). The book proves that the knowledge of such things is one of the keys to overcome this phobia.

Mª Luisa Ferrerós You’re punished without... going out, without your pay, without your mobile phone, without the game console, without computer, without football... We don’t know what else can we make up to make our children fulfil their obligations. It’s the trendy punishment, but most of the parents complain that it does not even work, and they admit that they no longer know what to do to make their children react. Discipline is necessary, but it shouldn’t be based in the child’s fear: it should favour thought as means to know the reason and the reach of the offense, at the same time that he is advised about what is the right action.
The paediatric psychologist Mª Luisa Ferrerós studied at the Department of Psy¬chology in Barcelona and later specialised in neuropsychology to take her Masters in sleep depravation at the Institut Universitari Dexeus under Doctor Eduard Estivill. Currently, she alternates her professional work as a psychologist in the team of specialist paediatrics at the BCM
centre, with her own research into is¬sues that affect children. She has given numerous conferences on her speciality in educational and childcare centres. She is the author of Olvídate del pañal, Abrázame, mamá and Dormir sin problemas amongst many other titles, and is an advisor at the Lenoarmi Centre, a pioneer in integrated education through water therapy.
Mª Luisa Ferrerós has already become a key author in the field of child education. Her books have sold more than 160,000 copies in Spain. The author has the great ability of mixing psychology and child education in a simple way, without ambiguities and in a straightforward language, close to the reader. It includes some examples that help understand the text better, and the book is also divided by ages, so that the reader can find the best method to use, from zero to seventeen years. A funny way of approaching history, with a different guideline from the usual handbooks.
Fernando Garcés The most common chronology of History is focused in kings and queens, in the dates of battles, or in great treaties... but there is also a History yet to be told, a most coveted History... La historia del mundo con los trozos más codiciados is an enjoyable walk through centuries, by the hand of the products that have symbolized the wishes and longings of a time. History begins when man leaves marks of his living, and those marks usually are those products which later become objects of greed: the ritual vases of prehistory, the silk of China, the Carrara marble... The history of the marks or brands, allows us to reconstruct the past and understand the present.
The second part of Historia del mundo sin los trozos aburridos –although they can be read separately– which has successfully been published in Portugal. The author mixes a deep knowledge of history with a great sense of humour that helps us to feel History as an accesible subject.

Carlos Goñi Untold stories fall into oblivion and make a big hole in memory. Herodotus knew that perfectly. Twenty-five centuries ago, he travelled all around the known world, making inquiries, asking questions, observing the world... and he compiled his «stories». This book suggests a fascinating walk through the ancient world by the hand of Herodotus. The «father of history», as Cicero called him, relates us how Psamtik, the Pharaoh, managed to know who were the first inhabitants of the world, how Croesus destroyed a big empire, which was actually his own, or why did people say that the Persian King Cyrus was the son of a bitch.
Carlos Goñi Zubieta was born in Pamplona in 1963. He has a PhD in Philosophy by the Universitat de Barcelona. He combines teaching with a very intense literary activity. He is the author of many essays and novels about subjects like philosphy, mythology, feminity, history or education. He considers himself a lover of classical culture, and he has written books like: Alma femenina: la mujer en la mitología, Historia
de la filosofía antigua, Cuéntame un mito y Una de romanos (the last two ones published by Ariel). He has also published in Ariel Las narices de los filósofos and Firmado, Dios.
Classical literature re-written for the new readers. The author is a very prolific author, and has a number of faithful readers that will love this new title. A book of Ancient history that will also help us to understand better our present and our future.

In times of crisis, Vicente Hernández has written a book full with advice for investing in the stock market, so that we can try and take advantage of the situation.
The stock market is not so different from poker, and, as the enthusiasts asy: «If you don’t know who is the sucker in the table, then the sucker is you.». The lack of information and the lack of knowledge are the main cause why many people end up losing all their savings in the stock market. This book will give you the clues and guidelines to invest with discretion, to avoid losing your money and to seize the opportunities.

A history of personal growth to overcome the greatest of all challenges.
Edurne Pasaban Edurne Pasaban is the first woman in the world that has succeeded in reaching the top of the fourteen «eight thousands» of the planet and she recounts in this book how has affected her, as a human being, living and working always on the verge of her possibilities. But his book is also, and above all, a love story with the mountains. It is, definitively, a very human and personal book, where she explains her experience, her life in the mountains, her anecdotes and her personal view of everything that this brutal adventure has brought her, a history out of which we can draw certain values that in the end are applicable to anything in life: effort, sacrifice, preparation, training and concentration.
Edurne Pasaban is the first woman in the world that has managed to reach the top of the fourteen eightthousands. This exploit, which she began in 2001 and finished in 2010, has only been achieved until now by fourteen mountaineers, all of them men. Pasaban has become now part of the history of mountaineering and of Spanish sports, and she has been awarded with the Medal for Sports Merit.
Fourteen Times Eight Thousand Planeta / 340 pages / March 2011 Edurne Pasaban. When she was fifteen, her cousin Asier taught her how to scale in rocks. A year afterwards she was mounting the Montblanc. Then she ascended the Andes. The turning point came in 2001, when she was appointed as a member of an expedition to the Everest. In 2003 she
reached the peaks of three eight thousands, the Lhotse and the two Gasherbrums, an achievement usually reserved to very few elite mountaineers.
She gives lectures about leadership and motivation to enterprises, from the premise that to get an eightthousand, the state of mind is much more important than the physical state.

Revised version from the 2007 edition of the book. The simplicity of the framework of the book will show the reader how the knowledge of the basic economy concepts can help us all to understand the economical, political and social changes in our world.
Alfredo Pastor It is obvious that we live in a world ruled by economic phenomena: unemployment, inflation, fiscal policy, the cost of money, markets, interest rates, monetary policy, the role of the state, the global distribution of wealth and the nature of the laws of the market. These phenomena affect and condition our lives every day of the year. However, most of us do not really understand the true mechanisms of the economic factors that surround us, which we think are only the concern of brainy specialists. Alfredo Pastor manages to teach us the basic principles of a subject that concerns us directly, because we participate in it every day of our lives.
Alfredo Pastor has managed to explain the basic principles of a subject that we all build together, a science –a humble science– that is and should be at the service of the citizen and not the other way round.
