Your guide for tips and resources to participate in an amazing week of Engineering!

Welcome

This year’s Engineers Week theme, “Design Your Future,” inspires Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains to dream big, explore new ideas, and build a future filled with possibilities. It’s a call to action for girls to tap into their creativity, curiosity, and courage to make a difference in the world.

As we celebrate 25 years into the 21st century, engineers continue to lead the way in solving some of the biggest challenges our world faces From tackling climate change to rethinking how we live and connect, their work is shaping the future and so can you!

Here are just a few groundbreaking areas where engineers are making an impact:

Renewable Energy: Advancing solar, wind, and geothermal technologies to help protect our planet

♻ Circular Economy: Creating innovative systems that reduce waste and encourage sustainability.

Artificial Intelligence (AI): Transforming industries like healthcare, transportation, and more.

Autonomous Systems: Innovating self-driving cars, drones, and robotics to revolutionize our daily lives

Gene Editing: Using tools like CRISPR to fight genetic diseases and improve agriculture.

Urban Planning: Designing smarter, greener cities for a sustainable future.

Whether you ' re interested in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM), you have the power to design the future. Engineers Week is a reminder that every idea big or small can change the world

Let’s celebrate the limitless possibilities of engineering and empower every Girl Scout to discover her passion, build her skills, and create the future she dreams of.

Together, we can lead the way!

National Engineers Week (February 16-22, 2025) is an exciting time to inspire girls to dream big and explore the boundless possibilities of engineering. Founded in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers, Engineers Week celebrates how engineers shape the world while encouraging the next generation to imagine their future in STEM.

This year, we’re inviting Girl Scouts of all ages and registered adult members to join the 2025 Engineering Week Challenge! Through hands-on activities, challenges, and games, participants will dive into the exciting world of engineering and earn a special fun patch.

5 Powerful Messages to Share

• Engineering is open to everyone.

• Engineering provides opportunities to build a bright future.

• Engineering makes the world better for everyone.

• Engineers are creative problem solvers.

• Engineers work in teams with smart inspiring people.

Don’t let anyone rob you of your imagination, your creativity, or your curiosity. It’s your place in the world; it’s your life. Go on and do all you can with it, and make it the life you want to live.

Introduce a Girl to Engineering

At Girl Scouts, we ’ re all about empowering girls to discover their passions, unleash their potential, and make a difference in the world. One of the most exciting opportunities we can share with girls is the field of engineering a space where creativity meets problem-solving and innovation transforms lives.

Introduce a Girl to Engineering is not just a one-day event on February 20; it’s a powerful movement designed to inspire girls and students of marginalized genders to explore the fascinating world of engineering It’s a chance to show them that they have the talent, courage, and ingenuity to tackle some of the biggest challenges facing our world today

Why Engineering Matters?

Engineering isn’t just about machines, buildings, or computers it’s about solving problems and making the world a better place. Engineers work at the cutting edge of technology, improving our daily lives through projects like:

Advancing renewable energy to protect the planet.

 Designing smarter, more sustainable cities.

Innovating robotics and artificial intelligence to improve industries like healthcare and transportation.

Using gene-editing tools to fight diseases and improve agriculture.

By introducing girls to engineering, we’re helping them see how their ideas and skills can create meaningful change. We’re also helping to close the gender gap in STEM fields, where women, especially those from marginalized communities, remain underrepresented

The Power of Representation

When girls see themselves in engineering, they realize their ideas can change the world. By celebrating Introduce a Girl to Engineering and offering meaningful opportunities, we’re not just preparing girls for the future we’re showing them they have the power to create it.

So, let’s work together to inspire the next generation of female engineers Host a Girl Day event, share resources, and encourage girls to explore the limitless possibilities of engineering. Together, we can build a future filled with bold, innovative women who are ready to change the world one design at a time.

Beyond the Event

While Girl Day is an exciting celebration, the impact doesn’t have to end there. Encourage girls to explore STEM badges and programs through Girl Scouts that help them build their skills and confidence in engineering. Share opportunities like STEM camps, robotics teams, and engineering challenges to keep their momentum going.

"I want girls to see themselves as creators, inventors, and problemsolvers because they already are. "
– Debbie Sterling, Engineer & Founder of GoldieBlox

Girl Day Role Models Can Help!

1. Talk to girls (and boys) about your career in engineering. Learn more about Messages Matter.

2. Build their STEM confidence as you lead engineering activities with them. Get tips on facilitating and planning activities.

3. Introduce them to other female engineers and technical professionals. Watch Chats with Change Makers

4. Share career information. Visit DiscoverE’s Engineering Careers Website

Not sure where to start? Get Inspired by what others are doing!
