TEAM ZONE
The AQUA park aims to create a water resilient community through a mixed-used district proposal that integrates flood protection, water treatment facilities and leisure programs. Team Zone addresses potential solution to future threats on the water resilience, water treatment as well as reuse of grey water and rainwater collection. Our study of the Bushwick Inlet Park let us to a broad understanding towards the site current condition: an undeveloped site previously influenced by industry, truck traffic, lack of pedestrian slow zone and flooding. At the water edge, a sponge park that elevated pubic space will protect the site from flood risk. The elevation of new park and extension the green zone all the way to the roof created a well-connected park as well as the green roof. Kent Ave, as a busy street with truck flows, is not safe for people to cross. We redirect pedestrian flow from different levels while still keeping the liveliness of the street. The park is also combined with communal elements such as a community center for education, a floating water park and a sea-life museum. The urban greenery system we designed will respond to the issue of flooding, meanwhile mitigating storm water, enhancing air quality. Solar energy, as a key part of our design, is worth mentioning. It acts as a major energy source of our buildings while still connecting to the city grid. Also, by replacing the unused old structure, the new Bushwick Inlet Park generated a new landscape as well as an exemplary model for urban revitalization.
