Thursday Activities Junior Gardeners - winter Offered by: Lynn Prosen Grade Level(s): 1 – 4 No. of Sessions: 6 Location: Room 108 Dates: Jan. 14 – Feb. 18 Time: 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. Cost per student: $325 Did you know that soil is made of different things? Did you know that there are good and bad insects in a garden? Did you know that some plants can take over 100 days to grow? We will learn about these things and more in the Junior Garden Growers (JGG). As a part of this program, you will help to prepare seeds and plants for the GSB Community Garden. Each JGG member will get a garden tool kit, a seed starter kit (which we will start under the grow lights or in the greenhouse), and will help to plan a special JGG raised bed in the garden.

If you already know how to play, your game will improve through competitive play, puzzles and instruction tactics and strategies. Some students will be invited to play outside tournaments and events.

This program is great for both beginning and experienced golfers! You will learn everything about the game of golf using Evan’s Hall or outside facilities. Program covers swing fundamentals, etiquette, gross motor skills, visual perception, character development, focus, and coordination.

Want to explore the world of chemistry through experimentation? See, hear, smell and touch what science is all about! Come learn about atoms, acids, molecules, electrons, metals, catalysts and all kinds of interesting mixtures and solutions while conducting handson experiments. To help gain an understanding of the world around them, students will create acid/base solutions, observe chemical reactions, combine chemicals to create invisible gases and investigate all sorts of physical changes. (All “chemicals” are child safe and non-toxic).

Did you know the oldest ceramic piece is about 27,000 years old? Come join us as we explore and have fun with one of the earliest art forms. Let your imagination soar as you mold and decorate air-dry clay projects. Bring your masterpieces home to display or give away as special gifts.

We offer both an extended day program, which includes both supervised playtime and a nutritious snack, and a variety of enrichment programs during the fall, winter and spring. Gill’s enrichment programs are available for a supplemental fee and offer experiences in sports, science, yoga, fine art, music, crafts and more. Whether athletics, arts or other after-school offerings, these opportunities allow students to acquire new skills, discover their individual selves, overcome challenges and develop character. 2016 WINTER & SPRING Term After-School Activities You will not have to pre-pay for After-School Activities; you will be billed through the GSB business office. Please see activities brochure for prices. Please include your primary e-mail address so the facilitator can communicate with you directly in the event of a cancellation or change in an activity. There will be make-up sessions TBD in the event of a school closing.
