Kinder Camp An option for campers in preschool through kindergarten, with its own indoor space and playground area. Campers participate in most of the same activities as the day camp—they meet for nature, athletics, performing arts, as well as arts and crafts and cooking, all scaled to fit the needs of the younger age group. They are also provided with instructional swim five days per week and have a free swim period each afternoon. A separate section of our pool is reserved for the exclusive use of our Kinder Camp. It is our goal to provide a nurturing environment for these first-time campers to grow and develop. Each group (bunk) has its own air-conditioned classroom space, which acts as the child’s “home base” during the day. The bunk is supervised by an experienced head counselor and a handselected group of junior counselors to maintain a maximum ratio of six campers for every one counselor.

Day Camp Campers are divided into groups (bunks) based on age and gender. Each bunk is supervised by an experienced head counselor and a junior counselor. Bunks are given daily schedules with various activities throughout the day. There are several open sessions purposely added to the schedule to allow time for individual bunks to tailor the day according to the group’s needs. Campers are encouraged to explore a wide variety of activities within a relaxed atmosphere. Activities are taught by trained and licensed staff, and include instructional and free swim, performing arts, nature, pottery, tennis, athletics, low ropes, arts and crafts as well as our new great outdoors program, which includes on-site fishing, archery, paddle boats, farm animals and nature trails. The club elective program provides campers with the chance to choose a special group activity each week. Clubs meet every day and provide an excellent opportunity for campers to socialize with children from other bunks and get involved with an activity in which they are especially interested.

A highlight of Travel Camp is a week-long trip, supervised by our Travel Camp Coordinator as well as other highly trained camp counselors over the age of 21.

Leaders of Tomorrow Camp (LOT) At Hi-Hills we provide many aspects of camp to include kinder camp, traditional day camp and travel camp. In recognition of the positive influence camp has on the younger campers, Hi-Hills wanted to provide the same impact for those campers getting ready to apply to colleges and jobs. New to Hi-Hills for the summer of 2016 is our Leaders of Tomorrow Program, also known as the LOTs. This program is designed for campers ages 15 - 16 who are excited and eager to build more than just their resume. The LOT program will teach campers character building skills, what it means to work as a team, as well as provide them with the necessary skills to create cover letters, resumes and proper interview dialogue.

Staff The people who are responsible for making your child’s summer are the camp staff. They provide the activities, the games, the events and all of the other fun that makes camp just that: camp. A staff member’s job is to motivate a child’s life in a positive manner. They need to have the will, the mindset and, most importantly, the training to do so. As ACA members, our staff are responsible for attending three days of orientation prior to the beginning of camp. Each training day focuses on a variety of topics such as safety procedures, meeting individual needs of campers while managing a group as a whole and communicating to the camp community we have developed here at Hi-Hills. In congruence with our orientation topics, our staff must attend a professional development day hosted by our directors to ensure the message of the summer and provide the staff with further details on the summer to come. The majority of our staff are currently educators or studying in the field of education. This nurturing and teaching mindset already instilled in our staff, combined with our staff training and the Hi-Hills mission, provide your campers with the best staff ever.
Highlights and Experiences At Hi-Hills we provide our campers with a unique experience, one that certainly provides them with the best summer ever. We offer more than just camp – we offer an experience. A camper’s experience will be filled with fun activities such as archery and swimming, but also with life and social skills such as character building. Hi-Hills understands the importance of skills such as self-confidence, work ethic and tenacity. Our #BeBetterMovement provides campers with these life essentials daily through weekly themes and positive camaraderie followed by activity reinforcement.
Mission Statement At Hi-Hills, the emphasis is on overall development. In a relaxed atmosphere, campers are encouraged to explore a wide variety of activities. Our varied programs are planned to meet the needs of each age group from 3 to 16. Instruction is provided with attention to each camper as an individual. Creativity and expression are encouraged as well as self-improvement in physical activities. Campers are helped to develop environmental awareness and learn to appreciate their natural surroundings on our 208-acre campus. Although camp is a learning experience in many ways, we also believe it is a place where children should just be able to have some plain, old-fashioned fun!

#BeBetterMovement What is it about summer camp that makes a camper savor and cherish a moment? Is it the games in the pool; the camp songs; the campouts? Summer camps offer a variety of options for your camper to enjoy their youth and have some plain, old-fashioned fun. But what separates one camp from another? Aside from day-to-day offerings and unique facilities used on campus, have you ever considered the message the camp promotes? Sure, camp promotes fun; all camps do in some way, shape or form, but what camps go deeper in their mission statements and go above and beyond to make sure their mission — providing your BE child with the summer of a lifetime — happens? YOU
their mind; our lessons in swim, tennis, yoga, and other skill-based activities allow for your child to challenge themselves and show improvement; and the social exposure our camp provides allows for your child’s personality to grow in strength. Every Friday, our staff stands up in front of the camp at dismissal and awards one camper per bunk and/ or activity with a Be Better Tag. The staff explains to the camp what the camper did to earn their tag and provides the camper the recognition they deserve for going above and beyond. This allows for both educational and physical growth of your camper on a daily basis through the exposure of fairness, responsibility and initiative.
As a staff, we find it very important that you as parents have access to your child’s BE day-to-day experiences. ACA Why choose an ACA-Accredited Camp? Hi-Hills has been a member of the ACA (American Camp Association) for over 25 years. The American Camp Association is a community of camp professionals who, for more than 100 years, have been working together to help ensure the highest quality camp experiences for our nation’s youth. ACA accreditation means that your child’s camp cares enough to undergo a thorough (over 300 standards) review of its operation - from staff qualifications and training to emergency management. Hi-Hills participates in many events and professional development opportunities throughout the year to reap the full benefit of being an ACA member. For our staff professional development days we bring in ACA members to speak on behalf of specific topics such as character building and team unity. We also attend ACA’s annual Tri-State Camp Conference, the largest gathering of camp professionals in the world, where we gather information to help better our campers’ experiences. Being an ACA-Accredited Camp helps Hi-Hills stay connected and grow in the camp community.
