We offer something for all grades, Pre-K – 12, through nine different sports and a variety of specialty athletic camps. Lunches and snacks are included for campers participating in full-day or both morning and afternoon sessions. Transportation is included for full-day campers. GSB’s girls’ varsity basketball coach Aaron Gratch offers a program for players to develop and enhance their fundamental basketball skills. Campers will develop new skills, improving their overall game. Fundamentals are the number-one priority in his coaching. Coach Gratch is a former Division 1 collegiate coach (Colgate University) and led GSB to the program’s first ever state title in 2013 along with a #15 national ranking by USA Today. Girls’ Lacrosse and Leadership Academy Janet Holdsworth, GSB Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse Coach, Owner of Winning For Life, 501c3 Girls will be exposed to the sport of lacrosse and develop skills through drills and fun activities. Former college coach, current GSB varsity head coach and owner of the Lakers Select Lacrosse Club, Janet Holdsworth has developed a training curriculum that is fun, challenging, and offers girls the opportunity to develop their confidence in the sport. Former NCAA All-American goalie and current GSB assistant varsity/head Middle School coach, Chrissy Baffuto will offer top training to lacrosse goal keepers throughout the week’s sessions. During the on field athletic portion of the Academy, girls will focus on individual and group fundamentals with instruction designed to advance skill development, game strategy and fitness. Specifically, players will practice individual stick skills, advanced shooting techniques, defensive positioning, controlling draws, game strategies, speed development and more! Off field, in the classroom, players will move through age-appropriate leadership development training, learning from experts on team building, time management, goal

Directors, Stephen Duffy & Ron Sansone Olde School Lacrosse Camp, a teaching camp emphasizing the fundamentals of lacrosse, is being run by Directors Stephen Duffy and Ron Sansone. Duffy is the coach for the 2015 MLL Champions, New York Lizards, and the former head coach for the Boston Cannons. Sansone’s credentials include Salisbury University, Lincoln-Sudbury High School and Leading Edge. Its mission is to maximize the talent of each player through the best lacrosse environment built on respect, responsibility and competition! Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR Certification / Recertification

Maestro Soccer “Striker – Keeper” Camp

Maestro Soccer will run five days of fun, intensive training for all players wanting to improve their goal scoring or goalkeeping ability! All aspects of attacking play, such as crossing and finishing, long range shooting, one time finishing and heading will all be covered in this five-day all-inclusive camp. Goalkeepers will be instructed in all areas of their position; handling, diving, dealing with crosses, angles and much more! The unique camp will train strikers and goalies separately for the first part of the day, then training groups are combined to create goalies versus strikers in motivating, realistic training scenarios! You do not have to be a full-time goalie or striker to attend – any player wanting to improve their goal scoring or goalkeeping skills can sign up. Players will be streamed by ability, age and gender. Full-day campers have pool time and lunch included in the cost.

Teaches participants the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare participants to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drowning and injuries. Prerequisites: Minimum age of 15. Swim 300 yards continuously using front crawl and breaststroke only demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds. Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidate will place arms under the armpits. Certification Requirement: Attend all class sessions. Demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities. Demonstrate competency in all final rescue scenarios. Pass both Section 1 – CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid and Section 2 – Lifeguarding Skills final written exams with a minimum of 80 percent. Maestro Total Soccer and High School Prep Camp Mike Williams, Regional Coaching Director, Maestro Soccer Great camps for 2016 specifically aimed to develop and prepare the travel and high school soccer player. Run by Gill St. Bernard’s varsity girls’ head soccer coach Mike Williams, this camp will provide a variety of intensive training situations to prepare players for the high school season. With video analysis, technical, tactical and soccer-specific conditioning all included in the camp, this is a first-rate camp experience designed to be the best possible preparation for high school soccer. Mountain Biking – Mind, Body, Spirit Bob Ort, GSB Upper School Teacher Experience the exhilaration of mountain biking! In conjunction with Marty’s Reliable Bikes of Hackettstown, you will explore the outdoors in ways you couldn’t have imagined. First, you will learn how to use your mountain bike safely and efficiently while touring several park locations in NJ. Second, you will learn about proper nutrition and hydration before, during and after our biking experiences, ensuring that you have good energy levels and a healthy state of mind to enjoy mountain biking. Finally, you will gain an appreciation for the environment by learning how to maintain trails.

Softball and Leadership Academy Nicole Spiotta, GSB Girls’ Varsity Softball Coach

Of course, the most important aspect of the program is “safety first,” and we will always have experienced adult mountain bike riders with first aid training on the trails with the students at all times. All registrations are due by June 13th to ensure participation in the program.

Looking for a way to improve your daughter’s basic softball fundamentals, while preparing her for the next level? If so, the softball clinic is the perfect program for you! Run by the Gill St. Bernard’s varsity softball coach, Nicole Spiotta, this clinic will help each player on an individual level break down the basic fundamentals of the sport to improve their batting, hitting, fielding and base running skills. Furthermore, the players will learn the strategic side of the game and develop a mental aspect of the sport in a team setting. Coach Nicole’s passion for the sport provided her with the experiences of collegiate coaching, team training, individual lessons, and youth clinics. Whether this is your daughter’s first time picking up a ball or she is in the recruitment process, the Softball Clinic is designed to strengthen all players’ physical and mental mechanics related to the sport. CREATIVE CAMPS Dance – LaChaney’s Dance Academy LaShonda Chaney, Founder, LaChaney’s Dance & Music Academy www.lachaney.com Director of LaChaney’s Dance Academy and former NBA Nets dancer, LaShonda Chaney will be bringing an exciting program to young campers, both boys and girls, to learn the fundamentals of dance. We will emphasize progressing technically; building strength and flexibility; increasing coordination; choreography, Jazz and Hip-Hop; and most importantly having FUN together. Additional class time in dance history, anatomy, terminology, performance skills, and dance composition will make a varied day for young dancers. If you don’t know the rules of the game, we’ll teach you; if you already know how to play, we’ll make you a better player. Get a quick overview of how to win a chess match – not just checkmating your opponent, but how to get that point. Jr. Garden Growers Lynn Prosen, GSB Lower School Science Teacher Did you know that soil is made of different things? Did you know that there are good and bad insects in a garden? Did you know that some plants can take over 100 days to grow? We will learn about these things and more in the Junior Garden Growers. As a part of this program, you will help in the GSB Garden and Greenhouse. We will prepare and plant seeds in the greenhouse. We will prep and plant seeds in the garden. Each JGG member will get a garden tool kit, a seed starter kit (which we will start in the greenhouse), and will help to plant a special JGG plant bed in the garden. Middle School Leadership Kyle Armstrong, GSB Middle School Director Open to rising seventh and eighth graders, the Middle School Leadership program is an opportunity to discuss virtues surrounding character and leadership. Based on the beautiful grounds of Gill St. Bernard’s, students will use various parts of the campus in order to facilitate dialogue around respect, honesty, service, and community. Students will work as a team to decide page set up and organize photos, captions and important camp information. Minecraft is the highly popular sandbox game that allows players to explore and build using resources gathered in a randomly generated virtual world. Each element of the world is made up of blocks that represent the resources necessary for their survival. From dirt to wood, students can harvest these items to build massive constructions and elaborate contraptions – all while learning to work alone and together as a team. The instructor will facilitate organization and operate as “Game Masters” to make sure each student’s ideas can be fully realized in the Minecraft world. Players will also be exposed to visualized programming concepts, learning how to program within the Minecraft world. Campers will learn: problem solving and design; basic and advanced building techniques; online and web literacy; collaboration and communication; digital citizenship and programming concepts.

Do you love playing video games and want to learn more about the behind the scenes technical aspect? If so, than Video Game Design is the perfect course for you. Over the course of a week you will learn to use the Unity game engine to create a game from scratch. Proper game design, level creation, and character development will all be covered.

Great Outdoors Joanna Hayes, GSB Middle School Teacher, Bob Ort, GSB Upper School Teacher Spend the summer outside! Students will spend half of the session on the beautiful Gill St. Bernard’s School campus exploring stream ecology, taking short hikes and learning the basics of photography. Woodworking will also be a part of the adventure; a project will involve carving your own personal walking stick! Outdoor ethics, travel, safety and survival skills will be addressed. This five-day course includes a trip to Ort pond for fishing, boating and a BBQ, and culminates in a three-day, two-night (tent only) camping trip in the New Jersey Pinelands, complete with a kayak day trip! Campus lunches, camping meals, camping fees, boat rentals and transportation are all included. Minimum enrollment is 14 and maximum is 17. All registrations are due by June 6th to ensure participation in the program.

This six-week course covers a full year of Algebra 1 concepts for credit. Students will work with signed numbers, understand the order of operations, simplify and solve basic equations and radicals, understand and solve word problems, learn the concepts of function, domain and range, as well as straight-line equations. Students will also be working with formulas and literal equations, as well as ratios, proportions, and basic trigonometry, the simplification of algebraic expressions involving monomials and polynomials, and understand linear, quadratics, and polynomial functions. All courses are taught by our highly qualified teachers.

This six week course covers a full year of Chemistry concepts for credit. Students will use their knowledge of chemistry to broaden understanding of aspects of their natural lives. Through analyzing news articles and interpreting implications of new scientific technology, students will use the web as a resource to improve scientific understanding. Through effective communication of lab results and scientific information to their peers, students will perform basic laboratory activities and provide critical analysis of their results. This six-week course covers a full year of Algebra 2 concepts for credit. Students will relate arithmetic of rational expressions to arithmetic of rational numbers, expand understandings of functions and graphing. By synthesizing and generalizing functions, students relate data display, summary statistics and investigate probability. All courses are taught by our highly qualified teachers.

In an intensive six-week program, students will complete a full course of Euclidean geometry including formal proofs with a focus on skills and techniques that are required in higher mathematics courses and on standardized tests. Special emphasis is placed on the types of problems that students will encounter on the PSAT and SAT exams. Cooperative learning will be used to encourage the development of communication, reasoning and problem-solving skills. Course credit and advancement to Algebra II and Trigonometry will be given to Gill St. Bernard’s School students who attain a B- or better in this summer course. Course credit may also be available to students from other schools. Pre-requisite: Algebra I. No class on Monday, July 4.

Research Skills and Writing an Essay Tom Gilbert, GSB Upper School History Teacher This course offers students the opportunity to gather information, build a strong thesis statement, and produce an essay that reflects their interests. Over the course of this one-week program, students will research and write a five-paragraph essay on current events or a popular cultural topic of their

choosing. Students will learn necessary research techniques and basic project writing skills including constructing an outline, essay structure, proper citation, editing and revising. Students will conduct research at the Gill St. Bernard’s library and online to produce a well-structured essay. Through this full sequence of process research and writing, students will strengthen those skills they need to write interesting and informative essays in high school and college.
