BLAGSS update for the New Year

Like many community organisations, BLAGSS, our LGBTQ+ sports society, has faced a period of activities being ‘on’ and ‘off’ since last March.

A number of groups were able to restart last summer – Running, Tennis, Walking, Dancing, Pétanque, Football, Badminton and Golf, however others, including Croquet, Netball, Tenpin Bowling, Squash and Table Tennis, never saw the light of day.

Activities developed protocols for social distancing and complied with national governing bodies’ guidelines, which varied from sport to sport and were very strict - and rightly so.

The organisation of BLAGSS via its committee met via Zoom throughout the year and an AGM was held online in November with a new committee elected to take things forward - John Moore (chair), Sarah Nancarrow (secretary), Kurt Matthews (treasurer), Dawn Glastonbury (social), Jane MacDonald (membership), Ian Tommins (website), Donna Griss (Get Involved), Viv Woodcock-Downey (publicity).

Some sports are now active and BLAGSS look forward to offering all 16 sports on a weekly basis in spring 2021.

BLAGSS’ sports cater to all levels from beginners to those with experience – it’s a great way to get involved and make new friends.
