Troops had booths at local businesses, drive-up booths, Cookie Chefs events, and some great rallies to help you learn the 5 skills related to the Girl Scout Cookie Program. Now that the program is over, it’s time for recognitions! Recognitions will be given to your leader in May. Soon after, be looking for your cookie card in the mail. If you haven’t received your card by the end of June, please ask your leader to contact the product program specialist in your area. There are some great events, camp, and shop items you can use your Girl Scout Cookie Credit gift card to purchase! • GSMH summer camp and day camp • Girl membership registration fees • GSMH program event fees • Troop camping at GSMH program centers • Teen girl destinations and council-sponsored trips • Merchandise at GSMH shops or camp trading posts (like your uniform, Girl Scout books, t-shirts, and more!) Continue practicing your selling techniques so you are ready for the friends and family program in the fall!

Patch Programs

BUILD-A-TROOP patch Want to help your troop earn a $25 gift certificate for the retail shop? Your troop can also earn a chance to be entered into a drawing for $150! What do you need to do? Recruit a minimum of two new or veteran volunteers and three girls (new or from the waiting list) to form a new troop! Once you hold two mentor meetings with the new troop your troop earns a $25 shop gift certificate. Every troop that successfully completes the requirements gets entered into the $150 drawing that will be held September 30, 2014. The purpose of the Build-A-Troop Patch program is to encourage experienced troops to help establish and mentor new troops. Through this patch program, both girls and volunteers can be actively involved in strengthening the Girl Scout program by becoming recruiters and advisors to adults and new girls in their communities.

HER STORY: LAURA INGALLS WILDER patch Recipe for Hard Tack Ingredients: 2 cups of flour 3 /4 cup water 3 /4 teaspoon of salt (optional) 1.

Mix all the ingredients into a dough and press onto a cookie sheet to a thickness of ½ inch. 2. Bake in a preheated oven at 400⁰ F for half an hour. Don’t cut yet! 3. Remove from oven, and now cut dough into 3-inch squares, and punch four rows of holes, four holes per row into the dough (a fork works nicely). 4. Flip the crackers and return to the oven for another half hour.

By completing 3 discover, 1 connect and 1 take action activities, you can earn this new Her Story patch! This patch program encourages you to think about the past. By exploring Her Story, you can learn about yourself and reflect on what stories you are making today, tomorrow and in the future. It also ties in with the It’s Your Story – Tell It! Journey series. For example, making hard tack is a sample activity from the patch program. Laura’s family might have used this old recipe. Hard Tack was a popular food when traveling in the 1800s because it required easy-to-find ingredients and it did not spoil easily.

Leader Appreciation GIRL SCOUT VOLUNTEER DAY

Be sure to thank your troop leaders!

(often known as Leader’s Day) is a day set aside to say “thank you” to troop leaders and all those other Girl Scout volunteers who help guide you on your Girl Scout adventures. It takes place every year on April 22. These adults do a LOT for you—why don’t you find a way to show them how much you care? It could be simply saying thank you with a card or letter. It could be a gift of homemade brownies, or signs in their yard saying thank you. Each girl or troop could find a way to honor their own leaders, but wouldn’t it be fantastic if the troops worked together to make a big splash and say thank you to all the volunteers in your community? Of course, GSMH retail shops have lots of nice gifts for leaders and volunteers too!
