Let’s celebrate 100 years of Girl Scouts selling cookies! Our biggest cookie milestone yet is here. That’s right! 2017 marks the 100th anniversary of the first known sale of cookies by Girl Scouts, and we’re so ready to celebrate! Join the celebration by participating in Girl Scouts of the USA’s Cookie Troop 100!

Troops can participate in 4 easy steps: 1. Set a troop goal and share the plan for your cookie money—what cool stuff will you do to improve your community this year? 2. Earn a Cookie Business badge—you can take your pick!

What troops can win: One lucky troop from EVERY council around the country will win

$100 each to put toward their next Take Action project

And one VERY lucky troop will win

3. Ask 100 NEW customers to buy cookies, as a troop.

$3,000 to super power their project!

4. Bling Your Booth. Gather your troop and get those creative juices flowing to come up with a fun theme—a party, a cookie disco—what will it be? You can even include a Cookie 100th twist. Just remember to snap a cool photo!

Once all 4 steps are completed, submit your entry at girlscouts.org/cookietroop100 to unlock your patch, and enter for a chance to win cash to invest in your next Take Action project. Winning troops will be randomly selected—no voting necessary!

welcome to the

Cookie Scoop! Thank you for your support of the Girl Scout Cookie Program! The Cookie Scoop will provide you with all the information needed for your troop to be successful during this cookie season. The Girl Scout Cookie Program is the world’s largest girl-led business. Your girls will learn skills that will lay the groundwork for a lifetime of success. They will engage in the three Girl Scout processes: Girl-Led, Learning by Doing, and Cooperative Learning. Do your girls love to earn badges? In the Girl’s Guide to Girl Scouting you will find information on how the girls can earn their Financial Literacy and Cookie Business badges. These Financial Literacy badges teach girls how to use money wisely and the Cookie Business badges help put girls’ financial literacy skills into practice. In addition to the skills Girl Scouts learn from their participation, 100% of the proceeds—that’s about 3/4 of what customers pay for a box of cookies—benefit girls. Ready to get started? It’s time to “Be Unique, Be You!”

Troop Proceeds The Girl Scout Cookie Program is a leadership development opportunity for girls. The Cookie Program teaches girls 5 important skills: goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics. It is important that the girls determine their troop goal and what they would like to do with their troop proceeds. Once you know the total amount of money needed for your troops’ goal, you can use the chart below to see the amount of money that can be earned per box. Then divide the amount of your goal by the amount you can earn per box and this will give you the number of boxes that your troop needs to sell. Description

Council Goal Let’s work together to reach our goals! All troops who participate in the Girl Scout Cookie Program are eligible to earn additional incentives if we reach our council goal of selling 103,000 cases of Girl Scout Cookies! • Troops will earn an extra 5¢ per box, for every box sold! • Troops will be entered into a drawing to win the items below! We will hold three drawings—one per region. 2017-2018 Membership dues paid for each girl registered in the troop during the 2016-2017 membership year. AND...A giant llama for each girl that participated in the Cookie Program!

7

Your service unit also has the opportunity to receive a bonus, so check with your Cookie Coordinator for more information and see how you can help your service unit meet its goal!

Cookie Program Patches In addition to the troop proceeds, Troop Bonus, Cookie Credit, girl recognitions, and the 5¢ Option, the girls in your troop can earn additional patches. These patches, available only for registered girl members, can be earned by meeting simple requirements* and can be purchased on the Cookie Merchandise Order Form on page 28. • Cookie Booth patch: Earned by participating in a booth sale. • Cookie Kickoff patch: Earned by participating in the Cookie Kickoff for your service unit. • Cookie Share patch: Earned by selling one box of cookies for the Cookie Share program. More information can be found on page 30. • Family patch: Girls can earn this patch when their family participates in troop cookie program training. • Gluten Free patch: Earned by selling one box of Gluten Free Trios. • My First Sale patch: Earned for first-time participation in the Cookie Program. • Online patch: Earned by sending 15+ ecards with her account in COCO direct. More information can be found on page 15. • Team COCO patch: Girls can earn this patch with a COCOdirect order on her girl balance summary from SNaP+. More information can be found on page 15.

*Requirements will be verified at the troop level.

Cookie Activity Pin All girls who participate in the Girl Scout Cookie Program are eligible to earn the annual Cookie Activity Pin. When they earn the pin, invite girls to share their accomplishments in each of the 5 Skills. 1. Goal Setting: Girls will set personal learning goals or personal sales goals. 2. Decision Making: Girls will develop a basic business plan, and work as a team with other Girl Scouts to decide when and where they’ll sell cookies and what they’ll do with the money they earn. 3. Money Management: Girls will develop a budget for accomplishing the goals they set. They should be able to explain how the money earned in the Cookie Program helps them, their group, and our council. 4. People Skills: Girls will practice their “elevator speech” for customers about what they’re selling, why they’re selling it, and why customers should purchase it. 5. Business Ethics: Girls will discuss how living the Girl Scout Promise and Law applies to what they do in the Girl Scout Cookie Program as businesswomen. The Cookie Activity Pin is available for purchase at your local shop or through girlscoutshop.com.

Preparing & Training your troop Gather and review materials to make the training fun and festive!

• Print door hangers or thank you cards from our website. Girls can color them while they wait. • Display order cards. • Set up a cookie activity or game. • Check-out a set of recognition items from your MMS to have on display. • Let girls and parents sample delicious cookies!

Use this information to inform and excite your troop about their upcoming cookie adventures! Don’t forget that holding a parent information meeting is one step toward qualifying for the Troop Bonus*, and the foundation of clear communication between you, the troop cookie coordinator, and your Girl Scout families.

Preparing for Your Parent Information Meeting •

• •

• *More information on the Troop Bonus can be found on page 24.

Read the Cookie Scoop and all other materials provided to you at training so you are able to answer questions. If your troop participated in Fall Product Program ensure your council bill is paid. Access the ROSE system and check that all your girls are registered and on your roster. If not, contact your membership marketing specialist (MMS). All adults who will assist in any way with the Cookie Program must be registered and have a background check on file.

Inform parents/guardians of the meeting, and that girls may NOT participate without a completed permission slip. Fill in girl order cards with important information: girls’ first name & last initial, troop number, and program dates. Touch base with parents by phone, email, or text to ensure at least one representative from each family will participate in the meeting. Review the “no sell” list prior to the meeting and contact any parent who may be on the list.

Don’t forget to review all forms, order cards, and procedures to keep everyone on the same page! • • • •

While parents are arriving, ask them to sign-in on an attendance sheet at the door. Begin the meeting with introductions and then discuss the benefits of the girls’ participation in the Girl Scout Cookie Program, including the 5 Skills: People Skills, Decision Making, Goal Setting, Business Ethics, and Money Management.

Discuss restrictions and safety for the girls while selling in person and online (page 14). Discuss troop goals with the girls so they can decide the use of the proceeds following the program. See COCO at www.abcsmartcookies.com for ways to help girls set their goals. Discuss how many booth sales you will do and how you will sign up to participate so that all girls have the opportunity to participate. Money Matters: Cookies are sold for $5 per package. Money is collected at delivery; parents are responsible for collecting and turning in the money. Schedule times that parents can submit the money and ALWAYS give receipts. It is recommended that you always recount money in the presence of the parent. It is important that parents understand the deadlines for turning in money. This will ensure that the necessary money is in the troop account to meet the ACH deadlines. Have parents fill out the permission slip completely; if the girl has two households, both adults should fill out a form. Using the cookie order card, discuss the varieties and nutritional information, along with allergen warnings. Instruct how to fill out the card and when it will be due.

• • •

Discuss cookie responsibility. All cookies received by the troop are the troop’s responsibility—no cookies will be returned to GSMH. Likewise, all cookies checked out to girls will become the responsibility of the girl. Remind parents that there are many opportunities for the girls to receive additional cookies throughout the direct sale portion of the program instead of acquiring a large quantity all at once. Discuss the online sales portion of the program: COCOdirect, girl order cards vs. online sales cards, and COCO mobile (page 15). Discuss the requirements to earn the Team COCO patch and Online patch (page 7). Have the troop site set up on COCO so that when girls sign up they will be added to the troop page automatically. Discuss the Cookie Share program and review the requirements to earn the Cookie Share patch. Discuss the logistics and procedures for picking up the initial troop orders. For additional options for older girls, review the 5¢ Option on page 25.

Your Parent Information Meeting Agenda

10 All service units use the ACH (Automatic Clearing House) process for the Girl Scout Cookie Program. Under the ACH process, all money should be deposited in the troop bank account. This makes it easier for the troop cookie coordinator to make frequent deposits in the bank. The council Finance department will utilize the ACH process to automatically withdraw the amount owed to the council from the troop bank account. Each troop leader needs to fill out an ACH Authorization form. The form should be returned to the service unit cookie coordinator at training. The service unit cookie coordinator will forward the form to the council staff product program specialists no later than January 28, 2017.

Keep all receipts of deposits. Verify receipt versus deposit for discrepancies. Don’t leave the bank without a receipt.

March 9 Troop deposits for initial orders plus additional cookies due. March 16 GSMH Finance department will ACH 30% of the total amount due (initial plus additional cookies) from the troop account and enter the ACH amount into SNaP+.

March 30

GSMH Finance department will ACH 30% of total amount due (initial plus additional cookies).

April 3 All money due to troop. April 14 GSMH Finance department will ACH the remaining balance due to GSMH from the troop and enter the ACH amount into SNaP+.

If a troop has an ACH that has been returned, the Finance department will enter the transaction into SNaP+ and the troop will not be able to get additional cookies from the cupboard until the ACH has been paid either through the ACH process or in one of the council retail shops.

Immediately contact the Finance department with any financial concerns at 877-312-4764 or financedept@girlscoutsmoheartland.org.

11

Money Collection Be sure to remind parents that they are financially responsible for all cookies signed for and received by their daughter—cookies cannot be returned to GSMH. Make sure to issue a separate receipt for each payment made and for any cookies picked up by parents. You should retain the white copy for your records and give parents the yellow copy. These receipts will be very important when it is time to transfer extra cookies or in the event you need to complete the Uncollected Funds Report. • Girls collect payment from customers at the time the cookies are delivered, unless the customer is only ordering cookies for the Cookie Share Program. • Be cautious letting parents write one check for more than $150 for their daughter’s entire order. Accepting multiple payments by parents is encouraged. • Parents may only get additional cookies once the initial order cookie money has been turned in to the troop leader or troop cookie coordinator. During the direct sale portion of the Cookie Program, families should pay for any sold cookies before taking more cookies to sell. • In the event of a parental divorce or separation, the parent who signs for cookies is the parent who is responsible for payment. • If a new troop does not yet have an established bank account, check with the service unit to determine whether the service unit account can be used or if other alternatives are available. • Signed receipts are required for each money transaction or cookie transaction for each Girl Scout family. Additional receipt books are available. • Keep receipts for all deposits made into the troop account. • Enter all girl deposits into SNaP+ under the ‘Finance’ Icon>Add Girl transaction. • Troop leaders should always verify that the stamped receipt received from the bank matches the amount written on the deposit ticket (sample shown to right).

Returned Checks & Bank Service Charges Troops will be reimbursed for returned checks and returned check fees for cookie payments deposited into the troop account. Troops will also be reimbursed for bank service charges due to higher than normal deposit activity during the Cookie Program. Returned Checks: Troops must provide the original returned check notice and returned check from the bank within 60 days of the date of the check to be reimbursed. Always keep a copy for your troop records.

Troop should mail original returned check(s) to the Finance department: Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland Attn: Finance Department 210 S Ingram Mill Rd Springfield, MO 65802

Bank Service Charges: Bank service charges for the months of February, March, and April will be reimbursed. Troops must provide a copy of the bank statement showing the amount of the bank service charge by May 31, 2017 to be reimbursed. Bank statement copies may be mailed to the address noted above or they may be faxed to the Finance department at 417-862-4120 or they may be scanned and emailed to the Finance department at financedept@girlscoutsmoheartland.org.

12

Past Due Payments and Uncollected Funds Reports If your troop has an issue with money collection, complete the Uncollected Funds Report and provide supporting documentation, detailing your attempts to collect the amount owed. Supporting documentation is listed to the right. Contact the Finance department at GSMH to determine if additional supporting documentation is required. Girl Scout families are responsible for payment of all cookies for which they have signed. Troops, however, are not responsible for paying for Girl Scout families that have not paid the troop, as long as an Uncollected Funds Report has been completed and returned to the Finance department at GSMH, along with supporting documentation, by April 5, 2017.

The troop leader must fill out an Uncollected Funds Report to send with the original versions of the following paperwork: • Signed permission slip, • Signed receipt(s) for cookies dispersed, • Signed receipt(s) of any payments received, and • Brief explanation concerning the amount outstanding or the situation and efforts made to collect.

Uncollected Funds Report forms can be found at girlscoutsmoheartland.org.

Uncollected Funds: Recognitions and Bonus Programs In the event that a girl or troop owes money after April 5, 2017, and no Uncollected Funds Report (with supporting documentation) has been submitted, council-specific recognitions and Cookie Credit at the 500 box level and above will not be distributed until such time that all outstanding money issues are resolved. In the event that a girl or troop owes money to the council on September 30 of that year, and no Uncollected Funds Report (with supporting documentation) has been submitted, council-specific recognitions and Cookie Credit at the 500 box level and above will not be distributed even upon resolution of outstanding money issues. The same procedures also apply to Troop Bonuses and Troop Bucks. No exceptions will be made to this procedure. Council-specific recognitions and Cookie Credit at the 500 box level and above will not be distributed to girls listed on the Uncollected Funds Report until such time that all outstanding money issues are resolved. Before participating in Girl Scout Cookie Program activities, it is imperative that you review these rules with your Girl Scouts and make sure they follow them. This helps to ensure a safe, fun, and successful experience.

Show you’re a Girl Scout. Girls should wear a Girl Scout membership pin and/or Girl Scout clothing to identify themselves as a Girl Scout. Uniforms are encouraged.

Buddy up. Always use the buddy system. It’s not just safe; it’s more fun!

Be streetwise. Be familiar with the areas and neighborhoods in which you will be selling Girl Scout Cookies.

Partner with adults. Adults must accompany Girl Scout Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors when they are taking orders, selling, or delivering cookies. An adult must know when Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors are selling door–to–door, and the girls must always have a buddy. Two approved adult volunteers must be present at Girl Scout Cookie booths regardless of the girls’ age level.

Plan ahead. Be prepared for emergencies! Also, have a plan to safeguard money— avoid walking around with large amounts or keeping it at home, in the car, or at school. As soon as possible, give proceeds to your troop cookie coordinator.

Do not enter. Never enter a person’s home or vehicle when you are selling or making deliveries.

Sell in the daytime. Girl Scouts sell only during daylight hours.

Keep the selling in-person. Girl Scouts can only sell cookies online with COCOdirect. Girls may use email and age-appropriate social media to let family, friends, and former customers know about the program and collect indications of interest. Online yard-sale sites or online auction sites are prohibited. Girls, parents, and third parties may not accept payment for Girl Scout Cookies online. Before engaging in online activities, be sure to review and sign the Girl Scout Internet Safety Pledge found under the Forms and Resources section at girlscoutsmoheartland.org.

Protect privacy. Girls’ names and contact information should never be given out to customers. Instead, give the troop/group number and an approved phone number of an adult or email for customers to request information, order, or give comments.

Be safe on the road. Follow safe pedestrian practices, especially at intersections or when walking along roadways. Be aware of traffic when unloading cookies and passengers from vehicles.

Be ‘net wise. Girls must have their parent’s/guardian’s permission to participate in all online activities, and must read and agree to the GSUSA Internet Safety Pledge before conducting any online activities. Additionally, in order to participate in COCOdirect girls must read and abide by the Internet Safety Pledge and parents/guardians must read and abide by the Terms and Conditions for Parents/Guardians.

1. preparation

During your family Girl Scout Cookie Program training or the initial order period, help the girls prepare by role-playing customer service, setting goals, and ensuring each girl knows her individual and troop goals. Make sure to review cookie booth etiquette with your girls and parents.

Bring the following materials with you: table and chairs; cookies; plenty of change; goal poster; paper or notebook for tracking sales; calculator; pen/pencil.

Girl Scout Cookie booth kits, which include Girl Scout Cookie costumes (youth sizes) and a fabric tablecloth, are available for checkout at service center cookie cupboards. Call your product program specialist at 877-312-4764 to reserve your booth kit.

The table should be neat and tidy, so that customers can easily see the varieties of Girl Scout Cookies available to them. Keep cookies that are not on display in their cases, stacked neatly under the table. Girls must wear their Girl Scout membership pin, tunic, sash, vest, or apparel that identifies them as Girl Scouts. Since many booth sale sites are outside, girls also need to dress for the weather.

After you have received your initial cookie order, you will likely need more cookies to fill additional girl orders or for booth sales. You can order more cookies from any cupboard. Cookie Cupboards are specific locations that stock cookies for troops to order and pick-up. There are two ways you can place an order for additional cookies: a call-in order or a planned order.

Call-in Orders If you would like to call-in your order to the cupboard, please be sure to include your troop and service unit number, your order by variety in cases or packages, a phone number with area code, and who will be picking up the cookies. Only the troop cookie coordinator should be calling in the orders. This ensures she/he is aware of the amount of cookies being purchased for the troop, so cookies can be allocated to girls properly.

Planned Orders A Planned Order allows a troop to schedule a pick-up on a designated day from any participating cookie cupboard, and it allows the cupboard manager to ensure the correct inventory to meet your needs. Planned orders must be placed by midnight on Sunday for pick-up the following week. To schedule a Planned Order in SNaP+: ЅЅ Click on the Cookie icon. ЅЅ Click on Planned Order. ЅЅ Select a cupboard from the drop down menu. ЅЅ Select the date you want to pick up your order. Once you select the date, the screen will register the troop number, cupboard, and requested date.

ЅЅ Enter the number of packages for each variety that you want to pick-up (1 case = 12 packages). ЅЅ Click Submit. ЅЅ You will be asked to confirm your order. Under the Cookie Icon, you can select Manage Orders to review your order. If your order needs to be deleted or edited, please contact the cupboard manager. When you pick up your order, the cookies will be transferred to your troop and it will be added to your troop inventory. All cupboard orders will immediately appear on your Troop Balance Summary and will be calculated for the next ACH. All Planned Orders not picked-up by Friday at 6 p.m. will be cancelled and cookies placed back in cupboard inventory.

Your troop may need to make multiple trips to the cookie cupboard, and it may be necessary for parents to assist in picking-up cookies. If you are having a parent volunteer pick-up the cookies for the troop, please provide that information in the Order Reference Field and notify the cupboard manager. Your parent volunteer will not be allowed to pick-up cookies without troop leader permission, either written or by phone.

Troops are financially responsible for all cookies transferred from all cupboards throughout the program. There are no returns or exchanges!

Don’t Forget! All cookies sold in direct sales count toward girls’ final recognition level and troop proceeds.

think outside the

Business Networking (CEO in Training) Older girls can learn business networking skills by contacting companies for permission to speak at a staff meeting, or to suggest ways for companies to use Girl Scout Cookies in their operations (e.g., Thin Mints for every person who takes a test drive, Girl Scout Cookies as balloon weights, snacks at realtor open houses, or a special treat in the break room).

Direct Sales are about more than just Cookie Booths! Here are a few ideas to give your direct sales a kick-start. Use these as starting points, and find out what works best for your troop!

Cookie Drive-Thru

Try a cookie caravan! Decorate a van with washable markers and canvas a neighborhood together.

Don’t forget to promote the Cookie Share program, especially for customers who say they’ve already eaten too many Girl Scout Cookies this year! Did you know that you can utilize the council delivery option for Cookie Share even during direct sales? Check out page 30 for details!

Set up a cookie drive-thru at your local church or business. The customers don’t even have to get out of their cars.

Door-to-Door Have girls buddy up for another door-to-door round, but bring cookies with you this time! For extra fun, use a red wagon!

Make sure that no matter how large or small your customer’s order is you are letting them know that each package purchased is greatly appreciated. Smiles, thank-you’s, and courtesy go a long way towards increasing sales and building lasting customer relations.

Mega Mentor Program Are you a troop leader with 3 or more years experience in the Girl Scout Cookie Program? Do you have s’more knowledge than you know what to do with? Then join the Mega Mentor Program and share your knowledge with a new troop leader in your service unit. We are looking for leaders with: • • • • • • •

3 + years of successful Cookie Programs, especially direct sales, a successful track record with meeting all financial obligations, the ability to successfully manage Cookie inventory, willingness to help a new leader, willingness to accompany a new leader to her first Cookie Booth, the skill set to show a new leader the ins and outs of managing a Cookie Booth and tracking Cookie sales, and the availability to answer questions when needed.

If you think you’d be a valuable Mega Mentor, please contact your service unit cookie coordinator to get matched up with a new troop leader in your service unit. You’ll receive this patch at the completion of the Cookie Program! A new troop leader’s success is your success.

Presentation is Key Make “special” offer cookie bundles—a chocolate lovers pack, variety pack, classic cookie pack. How can you market the New S’more cookie in a creative manner? Use ribbon to tie the boxes together and a pretty tag to tell what variety is in each bundle.

Get Creative! Where do you see an opportunity that is not being tapped for sales? Check with your school, local college/university, church and civic organizations. Are there local events that would allow sales prior to or following the event?

Head to the Office With the help of parents or relatives, girls can contact employers for permission to display an order card in the workplace with a note about their goals, or snag sales at the end of the day in the parking lot!

Council-Sponsored Booth Opportunities Watch for information about council-sponsored booth opportunities! During these events we will set up specified dates, times, and locations for troops to have the opportunity to sell cookies without the burden of having leftovers. A council representative will be on hand during these events to “check out” cookies to troops. Troops will only be charged for those cookies sold. These events are designed to “clean out” the cupboards and help troops attain their goals.

what is snap? SNAP, now known as SNaP+, is the online Cookie Program management tool. It makes ordering cookies and recognitions simple and easy! At your service unit training you received your log-in information once you signed your Troop Cookie Coordinator Agreement. You will be responsible for entering and updating your contact information as well as your girls’ orders and recognition choices.

Helpful SNaP+ Reports SNaP+ allows you to run various reports to help you track your cookie sales. Reports are located under the Reports menu and are generated in real time, which means that as soon as information is entered, you will be able to view it in a report. • Troop Balance: This report shows all the cookies that are received/ transferred as well as showing troop proceeds and what amount is owed to the council. After all ACHs are complete, the report should show a $0 balance for the troop. • Girl Cookie Totals Summary: This report keeps track of all cookies received by each girl. All cookies sold during the initial order or direct sale should be credited to girls. • Girl Balance Summary: You will input in SNaP+ the amount of money that has been paid by the parent for each girl. This report should show a $0 balance due at the end of the program. This report MUST be completed to ensure recognitions are correct. If a girl owes money, this report will help you document what has been paid and what is still outstanding.

Phase One before sale begins

Under the ‘My Troop’ icon Update troop information: • Troop level • Proceed plan • Main recognition plan • 5¢ option choice • Troop recognition plan • Contact information, including addresses and phone numbers Make sure to save your updates! To verify girls registered to sell, click on the ‘Cookies’ icon and initial order. The council has automatically uploaded girls that are registered to your troop. If you have a girl that is not showing up in SNaP+, please be sure she is registered by contacting your membership marketing specialist.

• Recognition Order Summary by Girl: You will want to run this report at the end of the program to show what recognitions have been earned by the girls (after all cookies have been transferred to the girls). • Transfer Order Summary: This report shows all cupboard to troop and troop to troop transfers, etc. • Track Cookie Share: This report will show you the number of packages collected for the Cookie Share Program.

5¢ Option What’s the 5¢ Option? Details are on page 25, but here’s a quick overview! Multi-level troops can choose the 5¢ Option for Juniors and older. This requires permission from the service unit cookie coordinator to create a “second” troop in SNaP+. Daisies and Brownies should be tracked under this “second” troop number by adding “0” to the end of their original troop number. Juniors and older are tracked under the original troop number. Be sure to choose the appropriate recognition

plan in SNaP+ to reflect the troop’s age level. This method will require additional tracking and paperwork, but will allow older girls the 5¢ Option. The troop still functions as one, holding meetings and cookie booths as usual. Please note the Troop Bonus implications: splitting the troop in SNaP+ does not change the per girl average required to meet the bonus requirements. The number of girls and number of packages sold will be combined between the two troops to calculate this average.

24 All concerns and issues for girl recognitions (on page 26) must be reported to a product program specialist and resolved by May 27, 2017.

Bonus Programs The Girl Scout Cookie Program at GSMH has bonus programs intended to help your girls and your troop reach all their goals. Here are the details on four of our bonus programs: Troop Bonus, Troop Bucks, the 5¢ Option, and Cookie Credit.

Troop Bonus The Girl Scout Cookie Program is designed to raise funds for Girl Scout troops and GSMH. The Cookie Program teaches girls about goal-setting and encourages them to set goals, work toward them, and celebrate their achievement at the end. In order for girls to have the absolute best experience in the Girl Scout Cookie Program, learning important business skills and developing selfesteem and confidence, it is important that they have the support of Girl Scout volunteers and families. The Troop Bonus Program is an opportunity for parents, volunteers, and girls to connect with each other and team up to encourage the troop to meet its goals. If the troop meets all of the requirements to the right, it will earn an additional $.10 per box sold in troop proceeds! Please complete the Troop Bonus Worksheet in the Forms and Resources Library on our website at girlscoutsmoheartland.org. This form must be turned in with final paperwork to the service unit cookie coordinator by April 5, 2017. For troops that earn the Troop Bonus, a credit of $.10 per box sold will be made to the troop banking account three months after the end of the program. Troop Bonus will be held until the troop has paid the council for their cookies, with the exception of any amount included on the Uncollected Funds Report.

Cookie Credit can be used for...

Cookie Credit Girl Scout Cookie Credit is an earned recognition item, in the form of a gift card, that girls can use to support their own Girl Scout Leadership Experience.

Earned Recognition Levels Girls earn Girl Scout Cookie Credit when they sell 125 or more packages of Girl Scout Cookies. The exact amount of Girl Scout Cookie Credit earned depends on the total number of packages that each girl sells.

Receiving Girl Scout Cookie Credit Girl Scout Cookie Credit gift cards are not distributed with other recognition items. They are mailed directly to all registered girls that have earned Girl Scout Cookie Credit. GSMH uses the address provided on the girl’s membership registration form, so please make sure that this information is accurately provided before the Girl Scout Cookie Program begins. If girls have not received their Girl Scout Cookie Credit gift card by the beginning of June, please contact your product program specialist at 877-312-4764.

Concerns and Issues All issues or concerns with Girl Scout Cookie Credit cards must be reported to a product program specialist (877-312-4764) and resolved by the end of the Girl Scout membership year (Sept. 30) of the same year.

Troop Bucks What are Troop Bucks? Troop Bucks are dollar amounts that can be used internally to pay troop membership dues, pay council-sponsored event registration fees, or make purchases in GSMH retail shops for the troop. Troop Bucks are earned for cupboard to troop transfers made during the direct sale period.

• summer resident camps. • service unit events and day camps.* • resident camp trading post purchases. • merchandise at council shops, including books and uniforms. • girl membership registration fees. • council program events. • Girl Scout Destinations. • council-sponsored trips. *To qualify for reimbursement via Cookie Credit, service unit events and day camps must meet council standards and criteria.

Troops that sell... 20 cases earn $20 in Troop Bucks. 40 cases earn $40 in Troop Bucks. 60 cases earn $60 in Troop Bucks. 80 cases earn $80 in Troop Bucks. 100 cases earn $100 in Troop Bucks.

...and so on.

This opportunity is different and unrelated to the Troop Bonus. This is an opportunity for GSMH troops participating in the 2017 Girl Scout Cookie Program and may not be offered in future cookie seasons. Cookies ordered on initial orders do not count toward Troop Bucks. Troop Bucks are non-transferable. Troop to troop transfers made during the direct sale period will not count toward this recognition program. Troop Bucks will be held until the troop has paid the council for their cookies, with the exception of any amount included on the Uncollected Funds Report.

5¢ Option Junior, Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador troops can earn an extra $.05 a box, if they choose not to earn the recognition items. Girls do still receive Cookie Credit (for 125+ boxes sold) and patches. Troops choosing this option need to complete the 5¢ Option form signed by each girl and parent. The form can be found in the Forms and Resources Library at girlscoutsmoheartland.org. Please return it with your completed paperwork to your service unit cookie coordinator by April 5. See tutorial on SNaP+ on pages 22-23 for further instructions.

Guidelines

Now that your troop is trained and your goals are set, you are ready to get started with the cookie season. Please remember the following guidelines will be enforced throughout the duration of the program.

Complaints/Concerns

Vague complaints will not be investigated.

Troop Splits Troops may not split during the Cookie Program. Troops who want to split should contact their membership marketing specialist, who will help work on temporary solutions until permanent solutions can be agreed upon after the Cookie Program.

Fire/Theft/Burglary/Robbery Cookies and other items are insured against fire and theft through the point of delivery to the Service Units. Cookies, other items, and related funds become the responsibility of the troops, parents, and girls at the point of delivery. Cookies and other items should be distributed to the girls quickly, delivered to the customers promptly, and the funds deposited frequently to help avoid potential issues. In the event that Cookies or funds are stolen, the family and/or troop is still responsible for the money that is due for the cookies. In some cases, homeowner’s or car insurance will cover the loss. For this reason, the police MUST be called and a report taken within 48 hours of the incident.

Initial Orders When entering the Initial Order Cookies: • Do not estimate a girl’s order. Troops and families are responsible for unsold cookies. • Order additional cookies for booth sales on the troop’s initial order, if desired, but use the ‘extra’ cookies line in SNaP+. Do not enter extra booth cookies in SNaP+ as a girl order(s). GSMH reserves the right to request a copy of a girl’s order card for verification if her initial order is deemed unusually high. GSMH reserves the right to limit or refuse any cookie orders during the initial order or direct sale.

The Girl Scout Cookie Share Program is a great way for people to support their local Girl Scouts! It is also a great way for customers who, due to dietary or other reasons, do not wish to purchase a box of cookies, but would still like to support Girl Scouting.

Pick an Organization: The troop chooses an organization in its community that it would like to support with packages of donated Girl Scout cookies. The troop is responsible for delivering the cookies to the chosen organization. Please note: These cookies should not be entered in the ‘Cookie Share’ order column in SNaP+. See instructions below.

Operation Cookie: The troop decides to send their donated cookies to our local military personnel. Troops do not have to handle or receive these cookie packages; the council will handle delivering the cookies to the US military personnel and families. Troops that select this option will be able to track their Cookie Share packages in SNaP+. See instructions below. Payment for Cookie Share Cookies If the customer has only purchased cookies from the Cookie Share Program, girls will collect money when taking the order, because there will be no delivery. If the same customer has ordered both cookies for the Cookie Share Program and for themselves, payment for all the cookies may be collected at the time of delivery. Tracking Cookie Share in SNAP If going with option one above, do not list these as ‘Cookie Share’ in SNaP+. Instead, select a variety that you’d like to donate and add the number of boxes sold per girl to that variety’s count. Make a note on each girl’s order card about what you ordered. Only option two above will need to be listed in ‘Cookie Share’ column in SNaP+.
