Welcome to the Girl Scout Camporee, our 2019 Signature Event! We are thrilled you’ve joined us as we continue our celebration of the Year of the Outdoor Girl! Since the beginning of Girl Scouting, outdoor experiences have been fundamental to the Girl Scout Movement. We are following in the footsteps of our founder, Juliette Gordon Low, by bringing girls outside to hike, fish, kayak, gain outdoor skills, and enjoy the glory of nature. We hope you enjoy your time at Echo Bluff State Park and Current River State Park. We are honored that you’ve joined us and look forward to spending time with you at our Camporee! Yours in Girl Scouting,

Activities Saturday will be filled with a variety of activities at both Echo Bluff and Current River State Parks. These activities are designed as mini programs, but they are not designed to all be completed in one day. We encourage you to prioritize! You will be able to walk to all activities at each park. And we have a shuttle system to go between Echo Bluff and Current River State Parks. See map on page 4-5 for shuttle stop locations.

Earn this patch today! Find out how below. To become a Missouri State Parks and Historic Sites Explorer, you must complete the following four requirements. Part 1: Interpretive Study With assistance from state park staff, do at least two of these five activities: • •
•
• •
Draw a map of the park or site during an important time period in the past, how it looks today, or how it might look in the future. Tell about a plant or animal important to the park. What does it eat? What eats it? What happens to it after it dies? How would the world change if it became extinct? Make a poster of your plant or animal out of natural material. Tell about a building, artifact, or past resident of the park or site. Why was it important? How was it made? How was it used? What did they do? How did they impove their world? Make a poster of your building, artifact, or person. Learn about a period craft and explain its significance or build something using a reproduction of a historical or ancient tool. Tell about a special feature found at the park or site. What makes it special? How was it used? When was it used? How is it being preserved? What can you learn from it?
Part 2: Interpretive Programs Attend at least three interpretive programs led by staff. These may include guided tours, hikes, evening programs, etc. These are identified on the activities list on page 6! Part 3: Identification Identify 10 important things (objects, people, or living things). Give the name of each and the importance to the park. Consider a wide range of subjects—plants, animals, rocks, fossils, minerals, historic events, or people. The state park staff may quiz you.

Emergency Procedures Fire
First Aid
•
A First Aid station is at each State Park for First Aid emergencies. Please refer to the event maps for exact location.
• • •
Be calm at all times and reassure girls and participants. Determine the location of the fire. Follow the exits of the building to evacuate participants outside of the building. Take the girls and participants in the opposite direction of the fire to a safe place.
Missing Person
Severe Weather • • •
Be calm at all times and reassure girls and participants. Seek shelter in a safe building. Once you are in a safe area, conduct a head count of all your participants.
After determining that a person is missing, one adult remains in the area where the person was last seen. One or two adults remain with girls and participants. Another adult should go to the First Aid station to report the missing person. Girl Scout Camporee 2019 | 9
