Sarah L. Lyman, WY My DFS For DFS” Sarah addressed the need of supplies such as blankets, bags, pillowcases, and toys for children who come into care through the Department of Family Service. Her county has a high number of children that receive support through DFS and Sarah wanted to provide items for physical and emotional stability and comfort for those children.

Mary F. Cheyenne, WY “Love Your Pet, Spay or Neuter Your Dog or Cat” Mary’s project addressed the issue of overpopulation of pets in her community. She partnered with Petco and her city animal shelter to inform the public of the importance of spaying and neutering their pets.

Emily D. Eureka, MT “VFW Memorial” Emily constructed a railing and tiling on the VFW Memorial Park in her community. She wanted her project to honor and show recognition for the service of each veteran from her community.

Claire I. Montana City, MT “Bridge on Branham” Claire replaced a hazardous walking bridge with a new multi-use bridge located on Branham Lake in the Tobacco Root Mountains. The new bridge will give her community members safe access to a favorite recreational area for fishing, camping, horseback riding, and backpacking.

Jaydyn C. Dillon, MT “Teen Suicide: Your Life Is Worth Living” Jaydyn wanted to create in her community, awareness of suicide prevention in teenagers and young adults. Jaydyn worked with the State of Montana Suicide Prevention program and her local mental health center to present movies, create pamphlets, initiate the yellow card program, and make presentations at school assemblies with nationally recognized speaker, Tom Thelen.

Kyla C. Great Falls, MT “Bags of Hope” Kayla created bags of hope for children who are removed from their homes due to abuse. She realized many children who are removed from their homes are taken while at school and do not have an opportunity to return home and get personal items. The bags included a teddy bear, pajamas, a book, a backpack, and other personal care items so they would be comforted during this transition.

Christine P. Helena, MT “South Hills Trail and Park” Christine saw the need to have an ADA (American Disabilities Act) compliant trail to make it easier for people with disabilities and parents with young children to use a trail to enjoy the beauty of the park. Christine was able to write and secure a grant of $27,000 to support her project which included building benches along the trail and putting up fencing around the parking lot of the park.


Pauline B., Great Falls, MT Journey to Japan: Summit Mount Fuji, Tokyo, Japan Pauline experienced the Japanese culture during home stays with Japanese families. She also explored the ecosystem and climbed Mount Fuji.

Alexandra M., Billings, MT Adventure Down Under, Sydney, Australia (above) Alex went to Sydney, Australia for her Destination, to explore a new world. There, she took in the sights and sounds of the big city and navigated the culture, history, and biological diversity of the countryside.

Christine P., Helena, MT Adrenaline Rush, Atlanta, Georgia (left) Christine traveled to the Destination “Adrenaline Rush” in Atlanta, Georgia where she climbed, sailed, spelunked, and enjoyed a theme park, a ropes course, a whitewater rafting trip, and an action-packed mountain bike ride. All activities that will give you a rush!

Heather M., Billings, MT and Tamara M., Black Eagle, MT Midwest Madness, Madison, Wisconsin (right) Tamara & Heather participated in the destination “Midwest Madness”. They traveled to Minnesota & Wisconsin to explore the countryside, the Mall of America, museums, and they studied the subject of positive body image. Tamara (left) Heather (above)


Sydney B., Billings, MT Patagonia: Adventure at the Bottom of the World, Marta and Magdalena Islands, Chile (right) “Adventure at the Bottom of the World” takes girls to the southern end of South America, an area that is shared by Chile and Argentina. Sydney explored the landscape, trekked through Patagonia and celebrated New Year’s Eve there.

Victoria S., Bozeman, MT Wilderness Adventure Photography, Sacramento, California (above) Victoria’s photography adventure took her to Yosemite National Park, Lake Tahoe, and Mount Whitney where she learned to use natural lighting (like early morning light) to enhance photos of landscape. Rebecca R., Great Falls, MT FLI Girlz, London, England Rebecca’s destination guided girls to discover their purpose, creating a vision for their future, and identifying barriers to those goals. The destination included participation in the Oxford Leadership Institute and travels to Stonehenge and Paris.

Alexys L., Billings, MT Ireland Multi-Sport Adventure, Dublin, Ireland Alexys’s adventure in Ireland allowed her to experience kayaking, hill walking, rock climbing, visiting castles, and more while exploring the Irish countryside.

Natasha G., Kalispell, MT Space Academy, US Space & Rocket Center, Huntsville, Alabama Natasha went to Space Camp where she was able to explore the possibilities of becoming an aeronautical scientist or an astronaut.




   
