Today, Girl Scouts continue her vision of building girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. From exploring the outdoors to building a robot to developing healthy habits to becoming the leader she is meant to be - with Girl Scouts, you can rest easy while she laughs, explores, and discovers anything is possible! Use this guide to … READ … review the dates, times, fees, and activity descriptions. SELECT … the activities you would like to attend. REGISTER … individually or as a troop — check each activity for more information, then register online. For all activities, individually registered girls must attend with an adult.
SAMPLE ACTIVITY LISTING Here’s a sample activity listing, which explains the information published for each activity.This paragraph contains a brief description of the activity. Individual Registration This activity can be attended by girls not in a troop or troops where only one or two girls would like to attend. An adult chaperone must register to attend with the girl(s).
Troop Registration This activity can be attended by three or more girls from the troop with the appropriate number of adults according to the safety ratios. Prior approval is required to register additional adults beyond the safety ratio.
This is the last day to register for an activity if space is available. Please note that some activities fill prior to the closing date.
Registering Online For Activities • Register and pay online on or after the registration opening date at www.nccoastalpines.org. • Click Activities on the website home page main menu bar and view activities in a list or calendar format. Use the advanced search to filter for specific activities. • Click the name of the activity to view the activity details. Select Register Now on the page to begin the online registration process or Add to MyActivities to select the activity and continue searching.

NEW THIS YEAR! All training and activity registrations will now take place through the council website at www.nccoastalpines.org. Parents and troop leaders will select activities to add to their shopping cart via Add to MyActivities or can register for a single activity by selecting Register Now. The online checkout process requires troop leaders/parents to login through My GS to complete registration and apply payment.
Financial Assistance Financial assistance is available for registered Girl Scouts who would otherwise be unable to attend individual programs, councilsponsored activities and camps. • Financial assistance is not available for events which are $10 or less. • To request financial assistance, a deposit must be made and a financial assistance request form must be completed for each event. • For additional financial assistance questions, please email helpdesk@nccoastalpines.org. 2016-2017 Registration Opening Dates August 10, 2016 October 5, 2016 January 4, 2017 March 1, 2017

Cancellation of Activity Policy
A minimum of two adults must accompany every troop to a program activity unless otherwise stated. Please consult the guidelines in Safety Activity Checkpoints or Volunteer Essentials for exact ratio information. Our primary goal is to provide quality programming for girls; space may not be available for additional adults above the stated ratio.
Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines reserves the right to cancel an activity due to insufficient registration, acts of nature, or any other reason beyond its control. Council-sponsored activities are held rain or shine, unless inclement weather adversely affects the program. If an activity is canceled or rescheduled, registered participants will be notified and refunds processed accordingly.

DOLLARS & SENSE: FINANCIAL LITERACY
During the 2016-17 membership year, girls and troops will have the opportunity to participate in two council-sponsored, money-earning activities.
2016 Fall Product Program The Fall Product Program gives girls and troops the opportunity to sell magazine subscriptions (new and renewals) and very popular nuts and candies in order to earn quick and easy startup money for their troop. This “friends & family sale” is conducted both face-to-face and online through a secure program. As part of the Fall Product Program, girls have the opportunity to develop e-commerce skills and leverage technology to help them learn and earn as they go. Girls can create their own Fall Product Program digital avatar and even earn a patch featuring the avatar they designed. Fall Product Program – Important Dates October 1 Fall Product Sale Program begins October 23 Face-to-face orders end, online sale continues November 13 Fall Product Sale Program ends November 17-19 Nut and candy deliveries
2017 Cookie Program
Be Unique, Be You! Participating girls are also eligible to earn Superstar Destinations. Girls who qualify can earn awesome rewards like Eno Hammocks, laptop computers, camping gear, Fitbit Blaze, bluetooth speakers and headphones, and admission tickets to places like Carowinds, Busch Gardens, Great Wolf Lodge and movie theaters! Girls can also earn Cookie Dough, which can be used to pay for Girl Scout camp, purchases in the council shops, council-sponsored activities, and national and international Girl Scout Destinations. Cookie Program – Important Dates January 7-13 Initial orders are delivered January 14 Cookie Program starts March 5 Cookie Program ends
100 YEARS OF GIRL SCOUTS SELLING COOKIES
The 2017 Cookie Program theme is Be Unique, Be You!, with the adorable llama as our mascot. Focusing on the 5 Skills, the cookie program is designed to help girls grow into leaders of courage, confidence, and character while learning five valuable life skills: goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics.
2017 marks 100 years of Girl Scouts selling cookies and we can’t wait to celebrate! Girls will have the opportunity to earn a special 100 Years of Girl Scouts Selling Cookies avatar patch by participating in both the 2016 Fall Product and the 2017 Girl Scout Cookie Programs.
All Girl Scout troops earn proceeds for participating in the Cookie Program, which can be used to fund troop adventures such as travel, community service projects, councilsponsored activities, and much more. Troops earn proceeds on a scaled proceed plan based on their box-per-girl average. The more troops sell, the more they earn. In 2016, the average troop earned more than $1,400 in proceeds!
Earning this patch happens in two parts. First, girls must participate in the 2016 Fall Product Program, create a digital avatar, and send 12 or more emails letting customers know about the sale. Second, girls must participate in the 2017 Cookie Program and sell 300 or more boxes of cookies. That's it!
In addition to the scaled proceed plan, each Girl Scout is eligible to earn awesome recognitions based on overall sales. Girls earn cool patches for Walkabout Week, Operation Cookie Drop, and selling online through COCOdirect. Girls are also eligible to earn additional rewards such as themed t-shirts, stuffed animals, and electronics such as a GoPro Camera, Apple Watch, iPad, remote controlled drone, and so much more!
Once the patch is earned, girls will receive their anniversary edition avatar patch, which will be directly mailed to them.

CITIZENSHIP & STEWARDSHIP EARN WHILE YOU LEARN There’s more than just what’s in the box! Participating in the Fall Product Program and Girl Scout Cookie Program gives girls useful skills and experiences that will last a lifetime. Plus, girls can earn some pretty cool Cookie Business badges aimed at sharpening business acumen while having a ton of fun!
Daisy Badges Money Counts Petal Learn money management basics including understanding different kinds of coins, how to count and use paper money, and setting goals for buying fun items. Making Choices Petal Earn this leaf by demonstrating smart money management, such as learning the difference between needs and wants and learning how to prioritize and set goals.
Brownie Badges Meet My Customers Girls learn all about how to find, interact, and retain cookie customers. From roleplaying good customer relations, to handling money and making change, this is a great way for girls to enhance selling skills and build confidence. Give Back Girls learn how money and businesses can help others including practicing giving back to the local community and explaining to customers how their purchases help fund troop service projects and Operation Cookie Drop.
Junior Badges Customer Insights Girls conduct market and customer research by finding out who buys cookies and gaining greater understanding of their cookie customers. Cookie CEO Girls earn this badge by exploring and mastering the details of running their very own Girl Scout Cookie business. As an entrepreneur and CEO, girls will learn how to set a group goal, explore how businesses work, practice listening skills, and track sales.

NC SPARKLE Day Join us for a special day in the park and become a “North Carolina State PARK Lady Explorer.” The fun day includes educational hikes, games, and crafts focused on subjects that make each state park special. Each SPARKLE day is different, so if you’ve been to a SPARKLE day before, come again for a new, fun day. This activity runs rain or shine, so come prepared to have fun and get a little dirty! Earth Works Do you love learning about the environment? Want to make our planet a better place? Ever wonder how you can make a passion for the outdoors a career? If you answered "Yes!" to any of these questions, you'll want to join us for a day that's all about loving our Earth. You'll get to explore nature, learn about women who work to improve our planet, help take care of our garden, and more! We'll provide lunch, but bring a water bottle. Ever wonder what it takes to make a good photograph into a great photograph? In this hands-on workshop girls will learn the tips and tricks of digital photography from lighting, to angles, to the rule of thirds. SPOTLIGHT STORY: Welcome to the Daisy Flower Garden In November, Girl Scout Daisy Troop #4593 was determined to not let wet winter weather keep them from working on their Welcome to the Daisy Flower Garden Journey. Instead of taking care of a flower garden, the troop decided to go back to the basics—soil! Led by troop co-leader Lisa B., the girls learned about different types of soils and the elements that contribute to healthy soil. Next, the Daisies decided to make their own soil by creating personal compost bins with worms! The composted soil will be used to plant herbs for a take action project. The troop plans to harvest the herbs to share as a gift to those living in a local retirement home. Awesome job, Girl Scouts! 14

A GIRL SCOUT TRADITION “SWAPS” stands for “Special Whatchamacallits Affectionately Pinned Somewhere.” SWAPS, the tradition of Girl Scouts exchanging keepsakes, started long ago when Girl Scouts and Girl Guides first gathered for fun, activities, and making new friends. SWAPS should tell something about the givers or their group and represent the givers’ country, community, or local Girl Scout council. SWAPS were first widely exchanged at national Girl Scout Senior Roundups in the 1950s and 1960s. Today, SWAPS are still the perfect way for Girl Scouts to meet each other and promote friendship. Each one reflects a memory of a special event or Girl Scout sister.
Choose Your TROOP CAMPING ADVENTURE A fun adventure in the out-of-doors awaits your troop. Each troop will have the freedom to plan a weekend by selecting activities that are most interesting to the girls. Activity selections will be available contingent upon Safety Activity Checkpoints guidelines and property amenities. The base price for these events includes lodging, a nature activity, and a themed craft. For an additional fee, council staff will provide meals and activities such as archery, waterfront, and high and low ropes challenges. Meal and activity fees are outlined below and will be due at the time of registration. Please note that Girl Scout Daisies will not be allowed to participate in archery and boating activities. A special Daisy activity will be offered in lieu of archery and boating. Please limit adult attendees to required safety ratios. The 2017 Summer Fun Guide with information on summer camp programs will be available to all registered Girl Scouts by January 2017. Day Camp Day camp offers all girls an exciting and eventful week, full of fun in a structured and supervised setting. These volunteerrun sessions are offered at various locations throughout the council’s 41 counties and typically serve girls in grades 1-8. Day camp provides experiences for girls to explore new things and meet new friends. Troop Camp Spend time exploring one of our lovely resident camps with your friends while participating in swimming, archery, canoeing, and much more! Weeklong and mini sessions are designed for a group of girls and adults to attend resident camp as a unit. Stay for a weeklong session, arriving Sunday afternoon and leaving Friday afternoon. For a mini-session, spend three days at camp. Meals are prepared in the dining hall. A troop or group must have at least six girl participants to be eligible to register for troop camp.
