Camp is fun in the sun – and so much more! Away from home in the caring environment of summer camp, girls learn and grow so much. They take responsibility for caring for themselves. They contribute in a group environment, pursuing things that are meaningful to them. They discover the best version of themselves. Camp is uniquely suited for supporting this growth based on independence, new opportunities, and a warm community. Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas summer camps are spaces for friendship and sisterhood. All of our sites offer classic camp experiences like archery, arts & crafts, team building, swimming, campfires, sing-alongs, and games. As a girl grows in the program, they have the opportunity to take the lead with meaningful mentorship from amazing role models. Each property has its own special identity and collection of offerings. Details for each camp property can be found on their page of this guide.
Camp grows with girls • Girls of all ages try a variety of activities and participate in all-camp experiences. • The experience of our youngest campers is focused on seeing and doing a variety of things. • As girls grow, they continue to practice skills and discover what they care about as they take on new challenges and are afforded new opportunities and privileges. • Our older campers have a unique leadership experience with the freedom to choose some of their own activities, the chance to practice skills at higher levels, and the opportunity to contribute to the camp community by mentoring younger groups and assisting with activities.
Need to know info: Any girl is welcome at Girl Scout camp – no previous Girl Scout experience is necessary. Our camps are open to every girl no matter her race, ethnicity, religion, or ability. You can attend camp with a friend! To have a buddy both campers must be registered for the same camp session. But don’t worry if you don’t have a buddy – most girls come on their own, and everyone is ready to make new friends. We’re here to support your girl at camp! Each camper will complete a health profile in CampDoc, this will include medical needs, immunizations, dietary needs, buddy requests, etc. Parents will receive an invite email to CampDoc soon after registration. COVID-19 precautions will be in place in accordance with evolving needs. COVID vaccination is strongly recommended for campers. Girls can earn camp through the Girl Scout Cookie program! Super Sellers – girls who sell 1200 packages or more – can choose a week at camp as their reward. 2022 Super Sellers will enjoy extra recognition and a special opportunity each week at camp.

From the Director of Outdoor Leadership Greetings! I hope this finds you well and dreaming of magical days at camp next summer! I am thrilled to be involved with our camp programs at Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas and can’t wait to make Summer 2022 our best yet. I come from a family of three generations of campers who loved roaming the woods and lakes as children, who developed a passion for outdoor recreation, and who sustain profound, lifelong gratitude for the joy, self-discovery, and community of friendship experienced at summer camp. After spending a decade and a half as a camper and counselor myself, I believe deeply in the unrivaled power of camp to shape lives for the better. A week at camp is an investment in a girl’s whole life, a time when she gets to experience herself at her very best. Girls engage their bodies and minds to discover who they are and what they care about, and they work as a team to live well together each day. Meaningful connection with the great outdoors sets the stage for active outdoor lifestyles that help keep girls happy and healthy, and the sisterhood of the camp environment offers the gift of lasting friendships. In a caring community with positive mentors, girls are accepted as they are, so they are free to take healthy risks and set goals they care about – and to know there are people on all sides to celebrate accomplishments. Camp accelerates a girl’s self-confidence, appreciation for learning and discovery, sense of responsibility for herself and to others, and resilience to take good care of herself. Our team is working to make camp better than ever by offering new activities and by simplifying the program structure so that all girls have the chance to try many things, to practice and improve their skills, and to experience camp at a deeper level with each passing year. Plus we are building in awesome leadership opportunities for our older campers to find their voices and use them for good. We can’t wait to welcome your Girl Scout home to camp this summer!

FAQ IS EVERY WEEK OF CAMP THE SAME? We have simplified the weekly program structure to expand opportunities for all campers to try a variety of things and to develop their skills, so girls get to do more each week and discover what they enjoy. All girls get a well-rounded camp experience, with no need to make choices before camp about which activities they value most. This makes unique activities, like vet medicine at Camp Bette Perot, available to more campers. Older girls even have some opportunities to choose their activities at camp.

WHAT IF A CAMPER WANTS TO ATTEND MULTIPLE WEEKS OF CAMP? We love to have girls come back to camp in the same summer! If returning to the same camp property, girls can choose some different options, continue practicing their skills, and set higher goals with a new group of friends. Girls have all the fun of the full camp experience with their peers while practicing leadership skills and contributing to the entire camp community. Throughout the week, CIT/MITs and Wranglers-in-Training (WITs) get to mentor a group of younger girls and/or assist with daily camp activities. They also get intentional teambuilding and challenge activities that help them reflect on who they want to be, develop their voices, and grow their service to others. Plus, as older girls, they get some special privileges and chances to choose activities.
Bette Perot Counselor-in-Training The CIT program is open to all rising high school Girl Scouts who want to come to Camp Bette Perot and are willing to commit the effort, positive role modeling, and cooperation needed to contribute to the camp community.

From the Director of The STEM Center of Excellence As the Senior Director at Camp Whispering Cedars, home of The STEM Center of Excellence, I am so excited to share this 2022 summer program with you. No matter which week(s) you join us at camp, I know you will have a safe experience as you become immersed in topics including cooking, aviation, art, and even magic. You will build once-in-a-lifetime bonds as you participate in camp activities lead by dedicated role models. Our summer staff members share your passion about the Girl Scout mission. Before campers arrive each summer, we spend nearly four weeks training and preparing. Training topics include leadership, first aid, STEM programming, conflict resolution, mental wellness, Girl Scout traditions, and more. You will experience camp in a way that engages all of your senses whether it is hearing singing at the flagpole, seeing a colorful sunset, holding an archery bow for the first time, tasting a meal cooked over a campfire, or smelling the plants grown at the new Smart Greenhouse. You will be busy each day with outdoor adventures and engineering challenges while taking an active role in a community of empathy and acceptance away from the stress of school. Time spent at our camp offers long-lasting opportunities for personal and social growth. Our summer camp programs are the best camp value in North Texas thanks to support from volunteers, donors, and grants. We strive to provide a memorable, high-quality experience for all campers while remaining highly accessible for all. 2022 is going to be an unforgettable summer and I can’t wait to welcome you.

Is my girl ready for Resident Camp? Determining whether a girl is ready to come to camp is a family responsibility based on these expectations: • Girl wants to come to camp. • Girl has successfully spent nights away from home in the past and can get herself to sleep at night. • Girl wants to eat, sleep, and play in a diverse group environment that offers limited opportunities for privacy. We are thankful to have a diverse group of campers and staff coming to join us this summer. Girl Scouts can expect the opportunity to live and play with girls and leaders who are different from one another. These differences may include geography, family structure, race and ethnicity, culture, appearance, ability, interests, and more.

• Girl can manage their own belongings and hygiene, including bathing, toothbrushing, hair care, sunscreen, bug spray, and dressing in activityappropriate attire (swimsuit, for example). • Girl and caregivers are committed to girl remaining at camp the entire week and working through any homesickness that arises – our staff are ready to help your girl succeed. • Girl and caregivers are comfortable forgoing all direct contact for the week (no phone calls, email responses, or other direct updates) – this is a chance for girls to have independent adventures and to reconnect with family at the end of the week. But don’t worry – in the event of a family emergency, caregivers can contact the camp.
