Girl Scout Camp 2024

Registration opens Monday, February 5.

Summer camp is a foundational experience for all Girl Scouts. Taking time to unplug, reconnect with nature, and be silly with friends does a world of good for confidence, mental health, and grit. It’s also a ton of fun and is consistently rated as the number one activity on our member survey! With new sleepaway offerings at Camp Whispering Cedars, home of The STEM Center of Excellence, and Troop and Family Camp returning at Camp Gambill, we’ve got even more options to get your girl, troop, and family to camp this summer.

Registration opens Monday, February 5 at 9am

Quick facts about Girl Scout camp

Locations Troop and Family Camp at Camp Gambill in Sumner

▶ Any girl is welcome at Girl Scout camp – no previous Girl Scout experience is necessary. ▶ Your camper can attend camp with a buddy, but most girls come on their own, and everyone is ready to make new friends. Those who want to camp with a larger group may attend Troop or Family Camp at Camp Gambill. ▶ We’re here to support your girl at camp! For Sleepaway and Volunteer-led Day or Twilight Camps, each camper will complete a health profile in CampDoc, which includes physical and mental health needs, dietary needs, buddy requests, family information, etc. ▶ Campers spend almost all of their time outdoors, and access to air conditioning is limited. ▶ Girls can earn camp through the Girl Scout Cookie Program! ⬥ Super Sellers at the 1200, 2024, 2800, and 4000-package level can choose a week at sleepaway camp as a reward. ⬥ Girl Scout Bucks earned at all levels can be applied to all summer camp options.

Fifth graders meet the epic challenge of Raccoon Ridge platform tents!

Activity customization for grades 5 and up

Platform tents are the original Girl Scout camp experience and foster a camper’s progression, grit, and accomplishment. The tents in Raccoon Ridge have wooden floors, wood support frames, heavy canvas roofs, giant fans, and beds equipped with bed nets, cubbies, and twinkle lights. Counselors are ready to help campers conquer challenges and see what they are capable of.

When they get to camp, these older Girl Scouts get to customize their week by selecting their activities based on their interest and availability. Everyone has barn time each day, but in other activity slots, she can focus on what interests her.

Buddy Requests We attempt to honor one mutual buddy request between campers of the same grade level. A buddy can be comforting, but we also encourage all girls to make new friends. If you want to camp with a larger group, please explore Troop Camp at Camp Gambill.

High school Girl Scouts who like helping out younger campers and are ready for leadership, check out our Counselor-in-Training (CIT) and Wrangler-in-Training (WIT) programs on page 6.

A typical day at sleepaway camp

What is turtle time? Every day campers rest by having some quiet “me time” in their unit. This time is for reading books, taking naps or playing quiet games. The name references a turtle retreating into his shell.

Morning flag ceremony and breakfast Morning activities Lunch, turtle time, and kapers

What are kapers? A kaper is a job or chore that contributes to community life. At camp, we divide kapers so that each girl plays a part in keeping the community successful.

Afternoon activities and trading post Evening flag ceremony and dinner Evening activity Flashlight time and lights out

What is trading post? Trading post is what we call our mid-day snack time. It’s also where campers are delivered the mail that friends and family send to camp.

Leadership experiences at Camp Bette Perot Counselor-in-Training (CIT) entering grade 9-12 There are three parts of the CIT leadership program: 1. Team-building and fun personal exploration with their peers 2. Assisting counselors with an activity of their choice 3. Mentoring with younger groups Leadership activities fit around the regular camper experience like swimming, archery, and fun with friends. CITs will go to the barn each day and can sign-up for activities of their choice based on availability. Great for all girls – even if being a counselor is not in their future. CIT 2s (CITs returning for a second summer) will have some new experiences and opportunities to learn more about camp behind the scenes. WITs rise early and spend the day working with barn staff to catch, feed, saddle, and move horses. Is your girl ready for week-long sleepaway camp? Determining whether a Girl Scout is ready for sleepaway camp is a family responsibility. Your camper’s success begins with managing expectations and evaluating the factors that will lead to a positive experience. Talk openly about the opportunities and challenges of sleepaway camp with your Girl Scout. Here are some questions that can help you decide if sleepaway camp is right for her at this time: • Do you, the Girl Scout, want to go to sleepaway camp? • Is your caregiver ready to let you go to sleepaway camp? • Are you eager to try new things and make new friends? • Have you had fun at sleepovers and can you get yourself to sleep at night when away from home? • Do you like forming bonds with girls your age and caring adults? • Are you ready to live in a diverse group environment that offers limited opportunities for privacy? • Can you manage your own belongings and get dressed in activity-appropriate attire? (Getting in and of your swimsuit, for example.) • Are you eager to experience independence in a safe, caring, fun environment? • Can you manage your own hygiene including bathing, toothbrushing, hair care, sunscreen, bug spray? • Are you committed to working through feelings of homesickness you might experience? (Our staff are prepared to help support you through this natural response.) • Both Girl Scout and caregiver: how will it feel to not have direct contact for a week – no phone calls, email responses, or other direct updates? (Contact can be made in case of emergency.)

What do you think? Are you ready for this amazing summer adventure? 11

We Value Diversity We are thankful to have a diverse group of campers and staff joining us this summer. These differences may include geography, family structure, race and ethnicity, culture, appearance, ability, interests, and more.

Safety is our top priority Safety at GSNETX camps is a top priority. Camp staff and volunteers are trained in emergency procedures and required to report any unexpected persons or other concerns. Our camp properties are equipped with security gates that remain closed. Access to properties is limited to campers, staff, certified program providers, volunteers, and delivery vehicles. 12
