Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas Summer Adventure Camps inspire the go-getter and satisfy the risk-taker in your home! Held at the new STEM Center of Excellence at Camp Whispering Cedars in Dallas and Program Partner locations around the DFW area, this all-girl summer leadership program offers a number of adventures from DIY, to science and nature, to design, and super power exploration. Of the girls who participate in our STEM-based programs: · 78% increased interest in STEM careers · 83% increased confidence in STEM · 87% increased interest in STEM in college GSNETX Summer Adventures are designed to spark an interest in STEM, but offer so much more! Join OnPoynt Aerial Solutions at Camp Whispering Cedars for a unique experience working in small teams to build a drone quadcopter. You’ll explore drone aerial robotics, develop safe flying skills, operate sensors, and learn about Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) technology. Put your team’s drone to the test by 6 conducting simulated First Responder missions, navigating an obstacle course, and more!

Brownies - Art & Architecture One of our favorite camps returns to Camp Whispering Cedars! Brownies will spend the week designing their own city, building sky scrapers and painting amazing skylines. Cadettes, Seniors & Ambassadors - Fabulous Fashion Do you have an eye for design? Do you love the catwalk? Do you love fashion design shows on TV? Come out to Camp Whispering Cedars for Fabulous Fashion! You’ll learn all about patterns and production, textiles and tailoring, from casual to couture this camp will inspire you to create your own line of products. MULTI-WEEK PROGRAM AT THE S.T.E.M. CENTER

Seniors & Ambassadors: Summer Experience in Antibiotic Discovery and Development (SEADD) June 13 - July 20 (no programs the week of July 4), $150

Meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Discover the broad range of careers and experimental techniques involved in pharmaceutical development. As part of the first ever Summer Experience in Antibiotic Discovery and Development (SEADD) led by The Shoulders of Giants, Seniors and Ambassadors will delve into sixty hours of hands-on curriculum with a focus on the chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, and microbiology involved in discovering new antibiotics. You’ll walk away wanting to pursue science and engineering like never before.

SUMMER GSLI OPPORTUNITIES:

Journey in a Day

Come earn the majority of the Sow What! Journey as we explore the world of food. Spending time at Frito Lay, grocery stores and local restaurants girls will learn how and where food is grown, harvested, processed, distributed and consumed. To finish the Journey girls will need to complete the Take Action portion after this event.

Career Exploration Join us at HCK2, a women owned, full-service marketing and communications agency that specializes in creative, interactive, public relations and social media. Girls will spend the day learning about how HCK2 makes their clients look their best using creativity in branding, web design, strategic planning, and social media. Learn how the Girl Scout brand is promoted and give feedback on how we can make it more girl focused.

Legal Ease Have you ever wondered what opportunities might be available if you pursue a legal career? Spend the day at the Collin County Courthouse speaking to attorneys, judges, and law officials to learn about this profession.

College Preparation Campus Visit, Southern Methodist University Visit the campus of SMU to get a first-hand view of a local college environment. We’ll start the day at the George W. Bush Presidential Library, including a behind the scenes look at how various exhibits are designed and displayed. After lunch, we’ll explore the campus, speak with SMU students and investigate the admission process to learn about campus life and academics.

Job Shadowing Lear what it would be like to work at places like the zoo, a hospital, law office or retailing organization! Shadow an employee throughout their day-to-day work schedule to see if this career might be right for you. Our online application to join the Job Shadowing program will be available in March.

Experience outdoor fun and learning at the Trinity River Audubon Center! Girls will be immersed in natural ecosystems, enjoying the wonders of nature. We’ll hike, track wildlife, meet animals, learn outdoor skills, create nature art, and more all-the-while learning to better care for our amazing north Texas home. June 12 - 15, $150 Cadettes: Bowling Ball Roller Coaster The challenge of the week will be for teams to create the longest and coolest roller coaster for a bowling ball. Kids will create the tracks, obstacles, and other fun elements to make a bowling ball travel the entire track distance. Concepts such as force, motion, energy, and momentum will be explored. Tool use and track construction will dominate the daily activities. Awards: Engineering Patch, Woodworker Badge

June 19 - 22, $150 Juniors: Go-Kart Construction An annual favorite, girls will be off to the races in this fun filled week! Teams will design, build, and decorate their push-powered karts working out the details for the chassis, steering, and brakes. The week culminates when the public is invited to Race Day. Awards: Engineering Patch, Product Designer Badge

June 26 - 29, $150 Cadettes: Mega Machines This will be a week of whimsical fun creating chain reaction machines like those made by Rube Goldberg where a simple task is made unnecessarily complicated. Teams will create a machine using a minimum number of steps in order to accomplish the prescribed task. Success will require teamwork, problem solving, contraption design, prototyping and testing. The big reveal happens on the last day when the machines are put to the test for all to witness. Awards: Engineering Patch, Woodworker Badge

July 5 - 7, $150 Juniors: Engineer It The advancement of our civilization has been greatly aided by innovations in construction of bridges. During this camp, teams will prototype their designs with craft sticks and then build full size versions out of wood. We will learn about basic bridge design along with the construction techniques necessary to building them strong. Awards: Engineering Patch, Product Designer Badge

At Frontiers of Flight Museum: July 10 - 13, $150 Juniors & Cadettes: Future Frontiers Join us for a fun, hands-on, mind-expanding week of STEM Camp hosted by the Frontiers of Flight Museum. Each day the focus will be on one of the four letters of STEM as we explore the physics of flight, robotics and coding, space and planetary science, mathematics of rocketry, and team work to solve an engineering challenge. Learn about famous women who have made contributions in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics and hear from professional women in STEM as they share their story of how STEM has impacted their career. At Northlake College July 24 - 27, $150 Cadette College Journey Come imagine your future on a college campus as we explore our environment and earn most of your Breathe Journey. Get hands-on experience working with college professors in real science labs! You’ll also meet the fun students of North Lake College, and play exciting new games. FAQ’s What time is the camp? Adventure Day Camp will be from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Is financial assistance available for Adventure Day Camp?

What do I need to send for lunch? Will you heat my child’s meal?

Yes, financial assistance may be available for Adventure Day Camp. To apply for financial assistance, please complete the online Financial Assistance Request Form at gsnetx.org/financialassistance, selecting the Adventure Day Camp Category.

Please send a nut/peanut free lunch that does not need to be refrigerated with your Girl Scout each day. Due to the number of Girl Scouts and limited resources, we are not able to heat meals.

Do you provide before/after care? Extended Care is available 8 - 9 a.m. and 4- 5 p.m. for a $15 fee for all sessions held at Camp Whisperings Cedars. Extended Care contact information for partner locations is included in that camp’s description, if provided.

Is there bus transportation to Camp Whispering Cedars? June 26-29 and July 17-20, bus transportation will be available from JoAnn Fogg Service Center (JAFSC) to Camp Whispering Cedars. Bus transportation will be an additional $40 fee. Girls will need to check in at JAFSC between 8:30 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. each day of their session. The bus will depart promptly at 8:45 a.m. The bus will return to JAFSC between 4:45 p.m.- 5:00 p.m., and all Girl Scouts must be picked up by 5:15 p.m.

What is your medication policy? We strongly encourage all medications be administered at home, outside of camp hours. However, we do understand that sometimes special accommodations need to be made or emergency medications, such as an Epi-Pen or Inhaler, need to be on hand. All medications administered at Adventure Day Camp must be listed on the Girl Scout’s Parent Permission and Release form, in the original container, not expired, and prescribed to the Girl Scout. All medications will be taken under the supervision of the GSNETX designated adult.

Can I stay with my daughter? Adventure Day Camps are designed as drop off programs. However, volunteer opportunities may be available during a particular session. Please visit gsnetx.org/ eventvolunteers or email programs@gsnetx.org for more information.
