Recognizing Service

General Service The Community Service Bar shows that the Girl Scout has had the chance to learn specific skills that were needed to carry out a minimum of 20 hours of service for a single chosen organization or the Girl Scout organization.

The Service to Girl Scouting Bar is earned by volunteering at least 20 hours to the Girl Scout organization. A girl can volunteer at a special event for younger girls, be an office assistant for their council or service unit or help with special projects.

Leadership Torches This award recognizes a Cadette who acts as leaders in their communities. Complete these two steps to earn the award: 1. Complete one Cadette Leadership Journey. 2. Serve for one full term in a leadership position at your school, place of worship, library, town council, community center, after-school club, or a similar organization. For example, you might serve as a school yearbook editor, on a committee to organize youth events within your faith community, or on an event-planning board at Girl Scouts. The length of your service will depend on the terms specified by the organization or the particular role.
