An Older Girl Conference Come to the University of New Haven for a conference designed with you in mind! Older girls will choose workshops to participate in throughout the day on topics such as: college readiness, STEM, career exploration, travel/ destinations, stress management, and artistic creativity. Seniors and Ambassadors will have a different track than Cadettes.
Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors: Join us for a day of international sisterhood, friendship, and impact with activities your troop can do to take action, celebrate with other girls around the world, and better your communities! Storytelling, music, and celebration help us connect to over 10 million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 145 countries.

How to use this book If you’re thumbing through the book to see what piques your interest, remember to go to both the grade level and the Multi-level section.
This is a collection of council-sponsored events between October 1, 2019 and September 30, 2020. Did you know any girl can attend our events? Events are grouped by Girl Scout levels: Daisy: Grades K-1; Brownie: Grades 2-3; Junior: Grades 4-5; Cadette: Grades 6-8; and Senior/ Ambassador: Grades 9-10 & 11-12.
Looking for something to do in a particular month or with your whole family? Use the alpha, chronological, and family indexes at the back of the book.
Next there is a Multi-level section, meaning more than one Girl Scout level can attend the events. These events are also listed on gsofct.org under the Activities tab. Share this book with your Girl Scout(s). A part of the Girl Scout experience is learning to plan and set goals!
Registration for most events happens online at gsofct.org by going to the Activities tab and clicking on View and Register for Girl Events here. The online registration system will have “real time” information on availability of spaces and additional opportunities that pop up during the year. Some of our community program partners like to take registrations themselves. You’ll see their contact information in the book as well as online.
Next to each event, you’ll see one or more symbols representing which of the four Girl Scout program pillars the event represents: STEM, Outdoor, Life Skills, and Entrepreneurship. A well-rounded Girl Scout Experience includes all of the pillars. See the key on page 4.
After the events section, you’ll see information on Product Sales programs and other council program resources. When you have a moment, be sure to scan these pages and see all that is available. Check out our new pilot programming options, Boomerang, programming that comes to you, and Program Express, pre-packaged DIY programming!
In addition, we’ve added symbols for leadership and program aide events to encourage leadership and taking action and where program aide help is requested.

How to Register for Events First time registering for an event?
Go to gsofct.org > Activities tab > View and Register for Girl Events Here > “Register” and follow prompts
Create a profile so you will be remembered next time! Select an event > “Register” Sign on > Create New User Profile > Follow prompts
Tips for registering u All events are open to troops, individual Girl Scouts with an accompanying adult, or in some cases, Girl Scouts without an adult. u Be sure to register before the register by date. Many events are filled quickly! u If you have allergies or need special accommodations, you will be prompted to tell us during the registration process. u Please only register those who are able to attend. If the event is for Cadettes, please do not register a Girl Scout Junior. u Payment is due at the time of registration. We accept Visa, MasterCard, and Discover.
If we cancel
Overnight Events
If the council needs to cancel due to weather or unforeseen circumstances, we’ll do our best to reschedule. If you are not able to make the new date/ location, you’ll receive a refund.
When attending an overnight event, we require all girls and adults to be registered members. Register through the “Join” button on gsofct.org.
If you cancel If you need to cancel participants, we strongly advise finding replacements to take their place. You can make these changes online. For most events, if you cancel up to a month before the registration deadline, we’ll refund your fees. If you cancel twoto-three weeks before the deadline, you’ll receive a partial refund, which will vary depending on the type of event. No refunds will be given a week before the deadline as arrangements have been made.
Need to make a change? No problem! You can make any changes up until the registration deadline, pending availability. Just log in to your account and add or change names.

National Program Portfolio
Journeys and Badges make up the majority of our National Program Portfolio. No matter where they are, a Girl Scout is having fun, learning, and gaining skills as they earn these awards. Journeys help Girl Scouts address complex issues in a sustainable way. Together, they identify an issue of concern, dig in to find the root causes, and work together to take action! Girl Scouts of all ages are leaders, making our world a better place. As Girl Scouts mature, they find that the Take Action process they honed while doing a Journey is the basis of their highest awards; the Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards. Badges help Girl Scouts try new things and learn new skills. These skills come in handy while doing Take Action projects and in other aspects of life. At every level, there are badges in each of the Four Pillars: STEM, Outdoor, Life Skills, and Entrepreneurship.

The Daisy Experience
A well-rounded Girl Scout Daisy experience allows Girl Scouts to explore the four program pillar areas: STEM, Outdoor, Life Skills, and Entrepreneurship. But it’s not just what Girl Scouts do; it’s how they do it. Girl-led: Daisies decide what they want to do and can choose which events they would like to attend. Learning by Doing: At events, Daisies are engaged and actively participate in hands-on experiences. Cooperative Learning: We encourage Daisies to interact with Sister Girl Scouts in paired and group activities. Remember to check the Multi-level section on page 50 for additional events Daisies can attend. The program resources on page 80 can support your troop meeting or individual experience. Both Boomerang and Program Express Kits can be done at your meetings or other local site.

A reading of “The Buzzy Bees” starts our adventure in using resources wisely. We’ll discover new uses for old things and explore how vegetable scraps become the compost that helps enrich our pollinator garden. Our greenhouse is teeming with life—even when the world outside is cold and snow covered. Join us in this “tropical location” for a fun lesson on composting! Journey Jumpstart, Three Cheers For Animals Jump into the Three Cheers for Animals Journey, which helps Daisies understand basic ways to care for themselves and others. We’ll learn about migrating animals, how they find their way, and what we can do to help ensure migration routes provide what they need. As we see how animals communicate, we’ll learn the necessity of communicating with each other while planning and implementing the Take Action project. Adults will attend most of the girls’ activites and an info session about guiding girls to complete the journey. While additional work will be needed to complete the journey, for convenience, awards are included. The Brownie Experience
A well-rounded Girl Scout Brownie experience allows Girl Scouts to explore the four program pillar areas: STEM, Outdoor, Life Skills, and Entrepreneurship. But it’s not just what Girl Scouts do; it’s how they do it. Girl-led: Brownies decide what they want to do and can choose which events they would like to attend. Learning by Doing: At events, Brownies are engaged and actively participate in hands-on experiences. Cooperative Learning: We encourage Brownies to interact with Sister Girl Scouts in paired and group activities. Remember to check the Multi-level section on page 50 for additional events Brownies can attend. The program resources on page 80 can support your troop meeting or individual experience. J Blast off! Rocket Design Workshop for Juniors
Astronomy for Juniors Be a Space Science Investigator while you work on the badge! We’ll start off by observing the sun if we have clear weather. We’ll take a night hike and find constellations, the North Star, and tell stories. Bring a bagged dinner. The program ends at 8:00 p.m., but if the sky is clear, we’ll be using telescopes to view deep sky objects until late in the night. (For: Troops, Individuals w/ Adult)
3…2…1…Blast off! Design and build a rocket, then test its flight – all while staying within budget. Just like NASA! In teams, girls will receive a budget and learn how to balance it and write checks. They will use their budget to purchase materials for their rocket design, which they will then launch to test. The Cadette Experience
A well-rounded Girl Scout Cadette experience allows Girl Scouts to explore the four program pillar areas: STEM, Outdoor, Life Skills, and Entrepreneurship. But it’s not just what Girl Scouts do; it’s how they do it. Cadettes blaze the trails, earn badges and try new experiences, and grow as leaders as they tackle issues they care about. They can also earn the Silver Award, the highest award a Cadette can earn. Girl-led: Cadettes decide what they want to do and can choose which events they would like to attend. Learning by Doing: At events, Cadettes are engaged and actively participate in hands-on experiences. Cooperative Learning: We encourage Cadettes to interact with Sister Girl Scouts in paired and group activities. Program Aide To earn a Program Aide Award, Cadettes follow these steps:
1. Earn one Leader in Action (LIA) award. See Leader in Action webinar dates, page 33. 2. Complete a Program Aide Care Training course, which will help you learn how to work with children and also gain a deeper understanding of a specialty area, such as, STEM, Outdoor, games, or adapting activities for Girl Scouts with all abilities. See page 67 for training dates. 3. Work directly with a group(s) of girls over the course of six sessions. Consider attending one of these dates, which includes an opportunity within the training to begin working with younger girls: 11/16-17/2019, Candlewood 2/8/2020, Middletown 5/30-31/2020, Yankee Trails For groups of 15 or more Cadettes, Seniors, or Ambassadors, additional workshops may be arranged. The Senior & Ambassador Experience
A well-rounded Girl Scout Senior and Ambassador experience allows Girl Scouts to explore the four program pillar areas: STEM, Outdoor, Life Skills, and Entrepreneurship. But it’s not just what Girl Scouts do; it’s how they do it. Seniors and Ambassadors explore the world around them, and go on adventures, and travel to amazing places. They are positive role models, mentor younger girls, and tackle international issues. Seniors and Ambassadors can also earn the Gold Award, the highest award a Girl Scout can earn. Girl-led: Seniors and Ambassadors decide what they want to do and can choose which events they would like to attend. Learning by Doing: At events, Seniors and Ambassadors are engaged and actively participate in hands-on experiences. Cooperative Learning: We encourage Seniors and Ambassadors to interact with Sister Girl Scouts in paired and group activities. Ambassador Water The ancient Connecticut River is in our backyard and makes the perfect location to study and appreciate the importance of our freshwater resources. We will examine various freshwater wetlands, including the river and associated stream and pond, and get our feet wet while measuring the water quality of these different yet precious water habitats. This helps accomplish Steps 1 and 3 with the opportunity to accomplish Step 2 of the badge. *Badge not included with program. Would you like to say “I hiked the Appalachian Trail!” The AT, as it is commonly known, is a scenic trail system that covers 2,190 miles in 14 states between Georgia and Maine. Some hikers attempt to cover the entire trail in a single hiking season. Others prefer to hike a section or two at a time. We offer three trips this year, each covering different sections of the AT between Connecticut and Massachusetts; pick the trip that’s right for you! We will gather at the trail head for a gear inspection to ensure everyone is prepared before we head out. We plan to cover approximately ten miles per day, on often-hilly terrain. Space is limited to a small group of Seniors and Ambassadors, as we will observing responsible “Leave No Trace” principals of minimal-impact hiking and camping. Girls must be wellacquainted with their gear and be able to carry it gear over distance. Girls will also be asked to bring the meals they intend to eat. It is not necessary to purchase new gear; some can be borrowed or shared. Girls must also be comfortable with primitive camping. Informational web meetings held prior to each hike. Girls Rock the Capitol Do you have an interest in government, public policy, or advocacy? Are you interested in getting a behind-the-scenes look at Connecticut State government? Join us for Girls Rock the Capitol (GRTC), a unique legislative girl internship and mentoring program for high school girls. You’ll be paired with a female legislator who will mentor you throughout the five-month program as you work side by side on issues that will influence the future of your state. You’ll attend committee meetings and full House sessions and hear discussions and debates on bills and laws. You’ll even have an opportunity to write a bill and present it to your legislator, community, or perhaps the House floor! As a GRTC Intern, you’ll acquire the skills necessary to express your concerns to people in positions of power and move toward positive change in Connecticut. Application Requirements: Applicants must be mature, articulate, and intrested in advocacy or political service. A written application and one reference are due by October 30. Program Commitment: Interns must be available to fully participate in all State House days as well as training and evaluation. Commitment includes, but is not limited to, a retreat training session and attendance at legislative sessions. Additional days may be available to interns. Travel Cadette trip to Savannah
Approximate dates: Monday, April 13 - Thursday, April 16, 2020 Cost estimation: $1,200 Calling all Cadettes! Spend your April break in Savannah, Georgia. We will explore the Girl Scout birthplace, the historic district, Tybee Island, and more. Price includes flight, transportation to/from the airports, accommodation, travel insurance, ticket to birthplace, and transportation to/from Tybee Island. Girls will participate in the planning process and costs may increase depending on what they choose to do. Girls will be expected to attend three planning meetings before the trip. We are seeking 15 girls from around the state to make this trip happen. If we get more than 15 interested girls, we will conduct interviews to select participants. Each girl applies individually, and on her trip, she will have the opportunity to meet girls from all over the U.S., and sometimes from around the world! Whether domestic or international, these trips can be life-changing experiences. Applications are now online! At a council level, assistance is often needed preparing for events, assisting at younger girl events, or general office work. If you are interested in earning this award, and/or have volunteer hours to do for school or other organizations, and would like to know what options are available at the council level, contact customercare@gsofct.org. At a local level, speak with your troop co-leader, service unit manager, or attend a leader’s meeting and discuss where you can provide service in your area. 25th Annual Haunted Hike Trail Ghouls CSAm
DBJCSAm Come to the spooktacular Haunted Hike at Camp Katoya. Trek with other brave hikers through the woods and buildings filled with ghosts, ghouls, witches, and other creatures. It’s eerie; it’s scary; it’s frightening Halloween fun! Bring your family and your friends; the more the merrier. A group of 10 hikers starts every few minutes. Large troops/groups will be divided. The Haunted Hike lasts about 20 minutes. A snack and a treat are provided. You may purchase a patch for this event at the door for $2. Please bring cash. Mystic Seaport Sleepover CSAm Groups begin their adventure with an introduction to Mystic Seaport and an evening walk through the recreated 19th century village. There’s a beach in Hawaii called Turtle Town where people come from all over the world to view sea turtles up close. But Girl Scouts don’t need to travel thousands of miles for face-to-face encounters with turtles. They’ll examine the look and feel of turtle shells, and, best of all, meet and touch a live terrapin. These trainings will help you or another Girl Scout adult lead the girls through outdoor experiences.
Join the volkssporters for some fun, rain or shine! Take a 10km (6.2 mile) walk with some new friends! You’ll be able to create your own pace; walk durations vary with an adult average of two hours. The program contact, Carol West, is experienced in both Girl Scouts and Volksporting, and is happy to provide you details beforehand. Walks are recommended for Juniors and older. Co-leaders must contact Carol at least four days in advance for specific addresses and to inform her of large groups attending. All walks are open to the public, and families are welcome.
Archery level I facilitator With this training you are able to utilize the archery site/equipment on your schedule. Simply reserve the area. Treats & Reads
Treats & Reads, GSOFCT’s Fall Product Program, is back for another exciting year! This year’s theme is “Be the Difference.” The program celebrates the unique contribution that each girl can make to the world around her. By participating in the Treats & Reads Program, girls can earn individual rewards and troops will earn proceeds that they can use to jump-start their Girl Scout year! Girls can offer their customers nuts, candy, and magazines. Customers can purchase nuts and candy in person through a paper order card, or online via a girl’s online storefront. Magazine subscriptions can be renewed or purchased via a Girl Scout’s online storefront.
How girls can participate Getting Started Online
1. Create an online storefront on the GSOFCT Treats & Reads website. 2. Use the nut and candy order card to take in-person orders. 3. #1 and #2! Girls can use both methods to reach as many customers as possible! Parents/guardians of girls registered for the 2019-2020 Girl Scout year will receive an email with a link to access the GSOFCT Treats & Reads website. This email is not necessary for a girl to register or set up her personalized storefront. The family can register their Girl Scout on the GSOFCT website.
Nuts and candy order card
1. Obtain an order card from the troop’s co-leader or Treats & Reads manager. 2. Take orders from friends and family and obtain payment at the time the order is placed. 3. Turn in the order card and funds collected to the troop. Parents/guardians also may enter their Girl Scout’s paper order on the GSOFCT Treats & Reads website themselves and then give payment to the troop volunteer.

The customer will pay a shipping fee if they choose this option.
Troops earn 15 percent on their total sale. Troops Junior and above may choose (majority rules) to earn an extra two percent in proceeds instead of receiving individual rewards.

Customers have several choices when it comes to purchasing nut and candy items from a Girl Scout: • Order in person via the Girl Scout’s paper order card – the customer pays the girl with cash or a check and will receive their items in December. • Online order for girl delivery – the customer pays with a credit card and the girl delivers the product in December. New: There are no fees associated with this option. • Online order shipped directly to the customer – the customer will have more options of nut and candy items to purchase and will receive their order within 5-7 business days.

By making a purchase through the Care to Share program, a customer can support a Girl Scout troop and also make a donation of Honey Roasted Peanuts to the American Red Cross, Connecticut Chapter. A $6 donation will provide the American Red Cross, Connecticut Chapter with a can of Honey Roasted Peanuts to help them in their work.
Magazines
Magazine subscriptions can be renewed or purchased through the online platform. Customers can choose from more than 600 titles. Both digital and print options are available for many magazine titles.

Election Day Booth Sales
Election Day Booth Sales Every November brings Election Day, and you know what that means! Election Day Booth Sales! Girl Scout troops will once again have the opportunity to hold booth sales at polling places, grocery and department stores, or any other location that a booth sale may be held. Troops will be able to offer their customers Trefoils®, Do-si-dos®, Samoas®, Tagalongs®, and Thin Mints® (the core varieties) in addition to one of our premium cookies, Girl Scout S’mores®. Toffee-tastics® will not be available for Election Day Booth Sales. Troops can hold sales between November 2 and November 10. The booth sale does not have to be on Election Day, which is Tuesday, November 5. Troops can hold booths anytime between November 2-10. Election Day Booth Sales provide the troop with funds to start their Girl Scout year as well as giving girls the chance to practice the five skills of the Girl Scout Cookie Program: goal setting, decision making, people skills, money management, and business ethics. The troop must obtain permission from the service unit. When a troop decides that they would like to hold an Election Day Booth Sale, a representative of the troop should first contact the service unit manager or service unit cookie manager. Each service unit has a different process for setting up cookie booths, so be sure to check with your service unit volunteers. Please note, council does not assign or approve all booth locations.

P Requirements for Holding an Election Day Booth Sale:
Please note that troops may only sell cookies picked up for their Election Day Booth Sales at these booths. Cookies from previous programs, including the 20182019 cookie program, may not be sold.
The troop must agree to participate in the 2019 Treats & Reads Program, as well as the Initial Order Taking portion (in January 2020) of the 2019-2020 Girl Scout Cookie Program. All girls participating in the Election Day Booth Sale must be registered Girl Scouts for the 2019-2020 membership year, and have a signed annual consent form on file with the troop. Permission from the service unit must be obtained.
Election Day Booth Sale Finances
At least one adult at the booth must be a registered and approved volunteer.
Cookies for Heroes The Cookies for Heroes Program is available to customers at any Election Day Booth Sale! Get the girls asking every customer that comes to their booth if they would like to buy a package or more of cookies to be donated to active military women and men, veterans or local heroes. At the booth, the troop will collect $5 from the customer for each package of cookies sold for the program. Each purchase should be noted in order to keep accurate records of your troops Cookies for Heroes package amount. When the booth is complete, the troop tallies up the total number of packages sold for this program and reports it to the cupboard manager when finalizing your Election Day Booth Sale consignment sheet. Girl Scouts of Connecticut works with partner organizations to get the Cookies for Heroes packages out to the recipients – the troop does not need to handle these cookies.
Reserving and Picking Up your Troop’s Cookies
The core varieties sell for $5 per package and Girl Scout S’mores® sell for $6 per package. Troops earn $.85 per box in troop proceeds. Troops also earn a bonus of $20 per every 20 cases of cookies sold. Payment to GSOFCT for all product sales programs will be done by Electronic Payment (ACH). Troops must complete one authorization per Girl Scout year (October 1, 2019 through September 30, 2020). For troops participating in Election Day Booth Sales, this form must be completed by October 23, 2019. An ACH for the total amount due to GSOFCT for Election Day Booth Sales will be initiated on November 25, 2019. Note: This may take up to seven business days to post to a troop’s account.
Patches Girls will earn a limited edition 2019 Election Day Booth Sale patch if their troop meets the following requirements: • Submits the Electronic Payment (ACH) Authorization Form by October 23, 2019.
To reserve cookies, just fill out the Election Day Booth Sale Reservation form at gsofct.org between August 9, 2019 and September 23, 2019. Filling out the form will order the troop a standard number for cases. Troops will have the option of ordering extra cases of cookies by requesting them on the reservation form or contacting the Product Sales Team at productsales@gsofct.org. The requests for additional cookies will be reviewed by the product sales manager assigned to your area and will be considered based on day, time and location of your booth sale(s).

Cookies reserved on the Election Day Booth Sale Reservation form will be available for pick up at either a council service center or a local cupboard the week of October 2-8. Your troop will be contacted with the location of your pick up and the process for signing up for a date and time to pick up your troop’s order.

Located in room 107 on the first floor of the North Haven Service Center, the museum houses a collection of dolls in replica uniforms, local and international items, historical uniforms, accessories, and more. View the Golden Eaglet on the large screen TV, listen to Girl Scout songs, try on some historical uniforms or take part in simple self-guided, hands-on activities. Troops have also used the museum for ceremonies, special meetings, and when working on the Girl Scout Way badges. There is no fee to use the museum. Open hours are available upon request. We’ll do our best to match your schedule. If you’d like to reserve the museum for a troop or service unit please let us know as far in advance as possible. If you are in the service center during business hours, feel free to ask the Girl Experience Department if the museum is available for visiting. Looking for a more directed visit? Between 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., on the second Saturday of the month, stop by for an open house experience! While everyone is welcome at any of the open houses, members of the historical committee will have special-themed items that are not usually on display. While walkins are welcome, pre-registration is encouraged. Archery We offer a number of archery events during the year. Ranging from a two-hour beginner session; to field archery; and to an archery weekend, there are opportunities for progression. If your Girl Scout(s) really enjoy archery, we suggest an adult take the archery facilitator training. It’s a day of learning how to teach skills, safety, set-up, and more, enabling you to facilitate your own sessions. Archery is a feature at all of our GSOFCT camps. This means you can rent/use equipment on your own. If you’d like to request an archery facilitator, go to our Boomerang section in Doubleknot and submit your two choices of dates/locations. Fees apply.
Astronomy Troop Based in the southeastern part of the state, this troop is open to any Girl Scout Junior or older, and will meet approximately every month. Girl Scouts will plan their activities and trips all based on the skies above! See the listing in the Multi-level section.
Backpacking How fortunate are we to have the Appalachian Trail (AT) in our state? Even if you prefer to head out on a trail in one of our larger camp properties, there are ways to do primitive camping. The Girl Experience Team offers primitive camping events at our camps for Cadettes, AT trips for Seniors and Ambassadors, and backpacking training for adults. Reach out if you’d like to discuss guidelines and tips for taking your troop out on a primitive overnight.
Boating Some of our camps have waterfronts, enabling us to offer warm weather boating – canoeing, funyaking, and standup paddle boarding. In addition, we collaborate with community program partners who are aware of related badges. Go on Doubleknot to view the Boomerang listing to request a boating facilitator. We’ll do our best to connect you to a facilitator. Fees apply.
Boomerang When you toss a boomerang, it comes back to you. In GSOFCT, you request a Boomerang program at your site/time and we do our best to connect you to a facilitator who comes to you. R Gold Award Mini-grants
Grief and Loss Box
We’re fortunate to have donors who support girls as they earn their Gold Award. After a Gold Award project is approved, Girl Scouts seeking funding apply through the event registration system for a Gold Award mini-grant. Funds are based on availability and usually range between $100-300. Recipients must send a handwritten thank-you note after receiving the mini-grant.
Unfortunately, there are times when our Girl Scouts face personal loss of a beloved family member, volunteer, or friend. This box contains children’s storybooks that discuss losses such as these, a few activities to help celebrate lives and explore feelings, and adult books related to discussing loss with children.
Gold Award Scholarships

Historical Resources
Annually, the CT Elks association offers a $1,000 scholarship to a GSOFCT Gold Award Girl Scout. Similar scholarships are also awarded through GSOFCT. Gold Award Girl Scouts will receive application information from their Gold Award liaison. Funds for these scholarships are raised via our participation in the Eversource Hartford Marathon. Learn more about the Hartford Marathon on page 65.
Gold Award Webinars and Bootcamps Seniors and Ambassadors who are interested in earning their Gold Award must first participate in one of these three informational sessions. We’ll discuss identifying the issue you’d like to address, how to create a sustainable plan that includes leadership as well as the Gold Award process itself.

Travel Troop Pen Pals The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) offers an online portal for pen pals. Go to http://glow.wagggs.org, click “Log in” in the top right corner, fill in the Create New Account form with your details, and an email will be sent to you.
Program Aide Program Aides are Cadettes or older and are trained in working with younger girls. We offer three scheduled workshops and will do our best to meet requests for groups of 15 or more Girl Scouts.
Whether you are part of a local troop or an independent member, every Girl Scout Cadette, Senior, Ambassador, or adult is welcome to join Travel Troop #3. Experienced trip leaders guide local, national, and international trips.
Volkswalks Volkswalks is a sport for all ages, which involves planned walks. You can choose to participate and accumulate “credit” for miles, working towards awards. GSOFCT has a volunteer for both Volkswalks and Girl Scouting. These are public events and families are encouraged to participate.

Silver Award Webinar and Boot Camps Cadettes who are interested in earning their Silver Award may view the GSOFCT Silver Award webinar or attend a Silver Award Bootcamp. We’ll discuss identifying the issue you’d like to address, and how to create a sustainable plan that includes a leadership component.
Snowshoes DIY Planning a wintery trip to camp? We’ll provide information about how to size snowshoes, tips for using them, and some things to look for as you enjoy your wintery walk. Snowshoes are available at Candlewood, An-Se-Ox, and Yankee Trails. When you make your site reservation, add Snowshoes as an activity.

If you see the van on-the-go, say “hello” to the driver and get a patch!
Drive the Council Van Participating in a parade? Have the girls march behind our Girl Scouts of Connecticut van. Want to be noticed at your cookie booth? Would you like to be noticed at your town event? Set up outside the council van. Having a camporee? Have a staff member bring the council van with fun merchandise for your participants to purchase. All you need to do is: • Be a registered Girl Scout • Notify Risk Management you would like to become an approved driver • Complete and pass a DMV background check • Watch a defensive driving video • Take a road test For more information, please contact Kathy Matteau at kmatteau@gsofct.org.

Program Express Kits and Boomerang, programming that comes to you! We know that going to a college campus, a GSOFCT Camp, or community partner site can be an adventure. We’ve also heard that there are times when it would be great to have something “in your backyard!” Starting October 2019, GSOFCT will have two new ways to help make that happen. We heard you, and hope this helps make volunteering easier! Program Express Kits Go online to the event registration area on gsofct.org and register to receive and pay for these kits. Prices vary based on the per-Girl Scout supply cost and how many Girl Scouts you’ll be serving. We’ll put as many as possible into a flat rate shipping box, and it shows up in your mailbox. The kit will include instructions and most supplies (you provide the reusable/ usual things like scissors, crayons, water-based markers, etc…). These kits are also a great resource when asking troop adults to help facilitate activities with the troop. What types of Program Express can we choose from? See our starter list below! Letterboxing – There are letterboxes everywhere in Connecticut, and not only do Brownies have a Letterboxing badge, GSOFCT has a Letterboxing patch for all levels! This Program Express Kit supports both! Inside are activities to help Girl Scouts learn about letterboxing, materials for a troop letterbox to plant, journals, and materials for each Girl Scout to make a simple letterboxing stamp. Recommended for all levels. Step Outdoors and Explore – This kit is intended to make it easier to guide Girl Scouts as they play, observe, and explore in the outdoors. They’d be great to tuck into a day pack for a trip to a GSOFCT camp or state park, but are also perfect for right outside your meeting place. They are not geared for any particular outdoor badge/journey, but we’ll notate where there is a link to a badge/journey award. Surrounded by STEM – From the earth below our feet to the skies high above (and everything in between) we find a connection to science, technology, engineering, and math! These fun, hands-on activities encourage Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors to be creative and play. We’ll notate where there is a link to a STEM badge or journey award. Troop Jump Start – What are some basics to help get the troop meetings organized, on track, and help the Girl Scouts get to know each other? This kit contains materials to make name clips for your kaper chart (included), a Girl Scout promise poster and activity, simple get to know you game ideas and props, an activity to help co-leaders understand what their Girl Scouts would like to explore, and materials to help guide Girl Scouts plan their Girl Scout year. Recommended for Daisy through Junior levels.

Boomerang, programming that comes to you! When you register online for a Boomerang program session, you’ll let us know what topic Girl Scouts chose from the menu of options, where you’d like to meet, and a few possible times when you are available. We’ll do our best to match you with a facilitator. Once finalized you’ll pay a flat fee for up to 15-25 Girl Scouts depending on the type of activity. You are welcome to invite other troops or Girl Scouts to join your Boomerang session. The facilitator will arrive with all supplies and lead the 90-120 hour session. Troop adults will be expected to cover girl adult ratio, and assist the facilitator. Look online in the Girl Event registration area on gsofct.org for more specifics. If you choose to meet at a GSOFCT camp Property, any related site fees will be applied. See below for a listing of Initial Boomerang session topics. Take Action Process and Highest Awards: The journey to the Gold Award begins with journeys and Girl Scouts taking action. Review of the T.A.P. process and activities tailored for your grade level. No fee. Story Telling: Daisies through Ambassadors can use this creative session to complement a badge or use as inspiration for a Take Action project. Consider storytelling as a way to help educate or change the way people think about any topic. Bristlebots: Using the design process, girls engineer these little wiggly robots. This session easily fits into the Think Like an Engineer Journey. Carving for Letterboxing: Depending on your familiarity with letterboxing, we’ll spend some time focused on your next step in this artistic and creative outdoor leisure activity. Next, Girl Scouts will design a stamp and use carving tools to make their own letterboxing stamp. Recommended for Juniors through adults.
Space Science Badge Activities for Daisy through Cadettes: Depending on the age level, we’ll complete some or all of the requirements for this badge. Available in all areas. Outdoor Cooking: Due to the weather and facilitator availability, this is currently offered on day/nights only in October and November. These Boomerang sessions must be done at GSOFCT sites. Fire Building: Due to the weather and facilitator availability, this is currently offered during week day/nights only in April and May. These Boomerang sessions must be done at GSOFCT sites. Archery: A certified facilitator for sessions at camporees, or troop trip to a GSOFCT camp property. Recommended for Juniors and older. Boating: A certified facilitator for sessions at camporees or troop trip at either Camp Laurel or Camp Candlewood. Lifeguarding: A certified facilitator for sessions at camporees or troop trip at either Camp Laurel or Camp Candlewood. Low Ropes: Certified facilitators for sessions at camporees or troop trip at Camp Candlewood. Recommended for Juniors and older. Teambuilding Challenges: Help Girl Scouts with communication skills and see the value of working together. These fun challenging activities may be done indoors or out, as long as some open space is available. Recommended for older Brownies through Ambassador.
Space Science Badge Activities for Seniors and Ambassadors: Due to the number of facilitators able to deliver this session, this Boomerang is currently only available in the eastern side of Connecticut. Consider meeting at Camp Laurel.
