Why should your girl come to our summer camps?
Summer Camp is all about experiences - taking a deep breath, enjoying the smell of nature, listening to rustling leaves, hiking, building a fire, and wrapping up the day with s’mores and campfire stories with your new friends. It’s about experiencing the independence of being away from home and finding your voice. Having the confidence to stand up and lead that silly song, the courage to dive into the deep end, and the curiosity to discover which trail to explore. And it’s also about sharing experiences – helping a new friend learn to tie a knot, canoeing across the lake together, and combining your cooking skills to make delicious campfire meals. Not only do girls get these classic camp experiences, they get the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, too. The American Camp Association says that “camp is an equal opportunity life changer.” That’s why we invite ALL girls to come and be a part of camp. Every girl will experience laughter, learning, and leadership in a safe outdoor environment with guidance from passionate, skilled counselors. So what are you waiting for? Discover the camp and program right for your girl! Learn more about the Girl Scout Leadership Experience!
Make new friends, sing silly songs, build a campfire, hike the trails – adventures await at GSOFCT Summer Camps! ALL girls 5 to 17 are welcome! Breakfast bunch is available at all day camps except Clatter Valley for an additional fee of $50 per week. Drop off can be as early as 7:30 a.m. Girls are served a yummy and healthy cold breakfast and start their camp adventure early. Units get to pick the fun activities that girls will do including which awards to earn, where to go on their hikes, which crafts they will create, deciding whether to cook tacos or make s’mores (or both!), and more. A single overnight at camp is an optional activity for girls entering 4th grade and up. Offered the second week of a two-week session, the cost is $15. *Day camp is closed on July 4. All girls attending camp the week of July 5-8 will receive a free camp hoodie. Must be registered by June 1 to guarantee size. Resident Camp Information Our resident camp programs are designed to meet the various needs of the wide age range of girls who come to resident camp. Living units are based upon the grades girls will be going into for the fall 2016 school year, but program areas have the flexibility to meet their wide range of skills. Girls in our youngest units will experience the outdoors, explore their curiosities, learn basic outdoor living skills, swim in our lake, and enjoy a traditional outdoor camp experience with hiking, crafts, and games. As their skills progress, girls in grades 4-5 will begin archery and boating, learning basic forms and proper techniques. They will continue to hone their outdoor living skills as they begin outdoor cooking and prepare for their packouts each week. Girls will also put their team-building skills to the test as they try our challenge initiatives and become both strong team players and leaders among their peers. Girls in grades 6-8 will take these activities even further with more advanced boating in canoes and kayaks, learning more difficult maneuvers and rescue moves. They will test their highly developed outdoor living expertise as they are challenged daily in all of their activities, from more advanced archery to campfire cooking, and skilled swimming and games in the lake. They will also take the lead on challenge initiatives as they find themselves working as a tight-knit team to traverse the toughest obstacles. In grades 9-12, girls are ready to emerge as leaders while still enjoying their camp experience. They will work on team-building exercises and gain a glimpse into what our leadership staff experience every day, from creative problem solving to multi-tasking and prioritizing daily tasks. Girls will foster their independence and cultivate confidence as they are given more freedom in their choices of activities to make the most out of their camp experience. Centrally located in camp is the Health Center, which is staffed by licensed personnel with doctors on call. The center is equipped to handle routine healthcare and first aid. Meals are served in our central dining hall. Besides the nutritious entrees, meals also include extras like breakfast bar or salad bar. Fresh fruit is available throughout the day. With advance notice, camp can accommodate many specialty diets.

Resident Camp Horseback Riding For girls looking to gain new skills, the horseback riding programs at Laurel and Timber Trails are designed for all levels of riders. On the first day, girls’ riding abilities are thoughtfully assessed and they are placed into riding groups that allow girls to work comfortably and confidently at their own pace. This helps them identify areas needing improvement and hone equestrian skills. Safety is always our first priority. Bad weather and excessive heat may shorten the time that the camper is actually on horseback. If that happens, they’ll work on other horse-related activities. Laurel and Timber Trails are inclusive equestrian programs. In the two-hour sessions girls will learn horse and stable care which includes mucking stalls, feeding, grooming, and tacking horses. In between assigned riding rotations, girls work on equestrian theory. If you have any questions, please contact camp@gsofct.org.
Horse Savvy
Two weeks For girls who want the ultimate adventure this summer, Horse Savvy is a two-week general camp program with eight horseback riding lessons to grow and strengthen confidence and comfort while riding. Not only will girls get time in the saddle, lessons at the stable will also cover equestrian theory and general horse care. As their skills and confidence improve, a trail ride is included. The program also includes other camp fun – archery, hiking, swimming, and boating!
Saddle Up Boating Bonanza
At Camp Timber Trails only. Two weeks What could be better than life on the lake? In addition to general camp programming, spend extra time on the water and learn the ins and outs of boating safety, canoeing, kayaking, and rowing.
