⏶ Arts & Humanities With our Arts & Humanities programs, you’ll develop a strong sense of self and realize your potential. These programs give you the chance to participate in a cooking competition, see a play, and much more!

⏶ Health & Wellness With our Health & Wellness programs, you’ll learn the importance of staying active and making healthy choices, while having a ton of fun! You can learn from local athletes, conquer the course at our annual Mad Mud Challenge, and learn how to care for others with our First Aid and Safe Sitter programs.

⏶ Advocacy & Engagement With our Advocacy & Engagement programs, you’ll learn to take action for yourself, your community, and your world. Learn about different perspectives and opportunities to make a difference, and be inspired to give back and share the good! Our programs offer a wide variety of volunteer events to truly make a difference.

⏶ Outdoor Education Experiencing the outdoors is a great way to develop an appreciation for nature, build skills, and see the Earth as your home. Whether you hike a mountain, camp under the stars, or learn how to ride horses, our programs give you the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors in new and exciting ways!

New for the 2016-2017 membership year Beginning April 1, 2016, a $5 council service fee will be added to yearly dues. Girl Scouts of the USA will continue to receive membership fees, while council service fees will stay locally within our council to facilitate the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. Did you miss the registration deadline? Programs fill up quickly, but if we are able to accommodate a late registration to a program, a late fee of $2 per person will be added.

Complete instructions, printable registration forms, and cancellation policies can be found at gsoh.org.

Program Aide Opportunities What is a Program Aide? Program Aides are Cadette assistants who help younger girls in exciting Girl Scout programs. To become a Program Aide, you must complete the following three steps in order:

1

Earn a Leader in Action award.

2

Attend a council Program Aide training or check out our Program Aide Workshop kit to do the training with your troop or service unit.

3

Volunteer at six program sessions (troop, service unit, or council programs).

All volunteer opportunities in this section count toward your six program sessions required to earn your PA award. If you’re not sure if being a PA is something you want to pursue, why not come and volunteer at one of these events to try it out? Volunteer sessions before taking PA training do not count toward the six required sessions.

The Super Troop patch program encourages volunteers, families, and girls to work in partnership to create the best Girl Scout experience!

How it works

This patch program is based on troop participation, rather than individual girl achievement. If the troop completes activities, individual girls are not excluded because they missed one or more of the activities. To earn the Super Troop patch, each of the activities must be completed during the current Super Troop year (October 1 - September 30). Deadline to submit paperwork for the 2016-2017 Super Troop year is Oct. 31, 2017.

Goals

The activities can and should be applied to awards the girls are working toward. All Super Troop requirements are designed to enhance ongoing troop programs. This patch may be earned every year if the requirements are met each year. Girls participating for the first time can purchase a patch. Girls who have previously earned the patch can purchase a star for each additional year of participation.

Directions 1. Introduce Super Troop and talk about how to complete the patch program. 2. Girls vote to decide if they would like to earn the patch. 3. Throughout the year, complete each requirement listed on the form. Initial and date each requirement as your troop completes it. 4. Once all the requirements have been completed, return the signed form to any Girl Scout Shop to purchase your Super Troop patches!

Teen Volunteer Opportunities (CIT/VIT/APL)

Volunteering at a GSOH program is a great way to give back, share your passion for Girl Scouting, and sharpen your leadership skills. Haven’t earned your CIT, VIT, or APL award? That’s okay, you can still volunteer to help out! You just might like it so much that you’ll want to earn one of these prominent awards.

What is a CIT? A Counselor-in-Training is a high school girl who mentors younger girls in a camp setting. CIT1 and CIT2 awards are earned by participating in a resident camp leadership training program. Look for more info in the camp guide you will receive in January!

What is a VIT? A Volunteer-in-Training is a girl in grades 10-12 who mentors girls outside of the camp experience. To earn the VIT award, you must attend a council VIT training course and implement a thoughtful program that lasts four or more sessions with the same girls.

What is an APL? An Advance Program Aide Leader is a day camp assistant who develops and leads specialty areas based on her specific skills and interests. APLs have progressed through several summers of day camp Program Aide training.

Strategies

for Better Time Management

5 Schedule Time Appropriately

Even the busiest people find time for their favorite activities. Scheduling isn’t just recording regular tasks like meetings and appointments, it’s also reserving time for activities you want to do!

Keeping a time log is a helpful way to determine how you’re using your time. Try logging what you do by the hour for a week and then review. How did you spend your time? Did you accomplish everything you wanted? Determine when you were most productive and analyze the areas where most of your time was spent. You’ll be able to better decide how you want to spend your time!

6 Get Help from Others

2 Set Priorities

You may be putting off a task for a variety of reasons, such as the task being overwhelming or unpleasant. To motivate yourself, break down the task into smaller segments that require less time commitment and result in specific, realistic deadlines. You’ll be done in no time!

Managing your time effectively requires distinguishing between important and urgent tasks. Experts say the most important tasks usually aren’t the most urgent. However, we tend to let the urgent tasks dominate. Covey, Merrill, and Merrill (1994) categorize our activities into four quadrants in their Time Management Matrix: urgent, not urgent, important, and not important. Try making this matrix and plotting where your tasks belong.

3 Use a Planning Tool

Time management experts recommend using a personal planning tool to improve productivity. Examples of these tools include: electronic planners, pocket diaries, calendars, computer programs, wall charts, and index cards. Writing down your tasks, schedules, and memory joggers can free your mind to focus on your priorities.

4 Get Organized

Most people find that disorganization results in poor time management. Professional organizers recommend that you begin your organization journey by removing all clutter. Fall/Winter 2016

Delegation means assigning responsibility of a task to someone else that can also do a job well, freeing up some of your time for tasks that require your expertise.

7 Stop Procrastinating

8 Manage External Time Wasters

External time wasters are difficult to control, but you can try to avoid interruptions with a little planning, organization, and assertiveness.

9 Avoid Multitasking

Recent psychological studies have shown that multitasking does not save time. You actually lose time when you switch from one task to another, resulting in a loss of productivity. Try planning your schedule to delegate your full attention to one task at a time. You won’t believe how much you accomplish! 10 Stay Healthy ●

The care and attention you give yourself is an important investment of time. Scheduling time to relax can help you rejuvenate both physically and mentally, enabling you to accomplish tasks more quickly and easily! 53
