Welcome to
myGSOH We’ve made it easy for you to find programs in your favorite category by adding icons to each program description. Get ready to start exploring and pick your favorite activities!
Life Skills ★ Arts & Humanities ★ Health & Wellness ★ Advocacy & Engagement Through our Life Skills programs, girls develop a strong sense of self and their potential, discover the importance of staying active and making healthy choices, and become more confident leaders who want to make the world a better place. By giving them different perspectives and opportunities to make a difference, we inspire girls to give back and share the good!
★ Entrepreneur The Fall Product Program and Girl Scout Cookie Program are two ways for girls to earn while they learn and run their own business. They develop important life skills—goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics—that will set them up for success beyond anything they can imagine.

The Citizen Scientist Patch Do you love learning how things work, creating experiments, or observing plants and animals? It doesn’t matter how old you are or where you live, you can be a scientist by participating in a Citizen Science project. You can also earn a patch from Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland for contributing your research!
The Lost Ladybug Project asks for help finding and photographing ladybugs so scientists can study where they are found. Visit lostladybug.org to learn more about this project.
A Citizen Science project is a study designed by a scientist that is meant to collect a lot of data from a lot of places, so they ask the public, or citizens, for help in gathering information. There are lots of places to find a Citizen Science project, and there are projects in almost every topic you can think of, so you’re bound to find something that interests you!
❧ Let’s practice! Circle all the ladybugs you see—you should find 12 in all! Did you find them all? You might be ready to earn your Citizen Scientist patch by contributing to this or another Citizen Science project!

Learn all the safety rules for the sport chosen. 2. Find out what kind of clothing and equipment are needed for the sport selected. 3. Find out what facilities or leagues are available in your area for playing the selected sport. After finishing the requirements, participants must complete the appropriate number of hours for the sport selected. The Peace It Together patch program helps you learn to stand up to bullies, build your confidence, and embrace the differences in others, all while making the world a better place! The patch program is divided into four segments – you can earn as many segments of the patch as you choose.

Note: It’s best to do this activity outside.
Items you will need: • Fine glitter Activity Instructions:
Form a single line with your friends. Your mission is to pass glitter from one person to the next, all the way down the line.
• • • •
To succeed you must complete the mission in five minutes, not let a single speck of glitter fall to the ground, and leave no trace of glitter in your hands. You can’t rinse your hands during this activity.

Were you able to complete the mission? Think about the glitter – how is it similar to gossip and rumors? Like glitter, gossip and rumors stick with you – it’s hard to get off even if you want it gone. It’s hard to contain. It’s easy for it to travel where you didn’t intend. It can put the spotlight on someone who doesn’t want attention. It can seem fun, but it turns into a big mess!
Items you will need: • Paper • Pencils • Markers or colored pencils Activity Instructions:
What is a personal symbol? Think of things like a hair style, a T-shirt message, etc. Create a symbol of yourself using a mandala! A mandala is a word in Sanskrit that means “circle.” The circle has been used as a symbol for thousands of years in many different cultures.
Think about four to six words that describe your strengths and talents, then decorate your mandala using markers or colored pencils.
CHARACTER Getting to know someone is a skill. You need to be interested in another person! You may think you don’t have something in common with another person only to discover that you have many common interests!
Activity Instructions:
Challenge yourself to talk to a girl in your Girl Scout troop or at your school that you don’t know very well. Can you find at least three things you have in common?
Check out the full booklet and explore activities from all four segments at gsoh.org/councils-own

What is an APA?
A Counselor-in-Training (CIT) is a high school girl who mentors younger girls in a camp setting. CIT1 and CIT2 awards are earned by participating in a resident camp leadership training program. Look for more info in the camp guide found at gsoh.org!
A Volunteer-in-Training (VIT) is a girl in grades 10-12 who mentors girls outside of the camp experience. To earn the VIT award, you must attend a council VIT training course and implement a thoughtful program that lasts four or more sessions with the same girls.
An Advance Program Aide (formerly called Advanced Program Leader) is a day camp assistant who develops and leads specialty areas based on her specific skills and interests. APAs have progressed through several summers of day camp Program Aide training.

Are you a Cadette, Senior, or Ambassador who loves community service? Perhaps you completed your Bronze, Silver, or Gold Award but want to do more? You can earn Service Bars for getting involved with a cause you care about and making an impact! The COMMUNITY SERVICE BAR is earned by making a difference in the community and practicing the values of the Girl Scout Law.
How would you plan a project? Here are a few ideas to think about, or use one of your own! • Read to residents at a nursing home. • Make and donate blankets to a homeless shelter. • Set up a “mitten tree” in your community to collect cold weather gear for children at a local school. • Spend the week, month, or year performing Random Acts of Kindness. See randomactsofkindness.org for great ideas! • Hold a food or clothing drive. • Volunteer at a local animal shelter to help clean, exercise, and socialize the animals, so they can find a forever home.
Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador Community Service Bars
• Connect with local leaders for a painting campaign. Paint community resources, like playground equipment, or help local businesses and families paint over graffiti.
Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador Service to Girl Scouting Bars
Earn the SERVICE TO GIRL SCOUTING BAR by supporting Girl Scouts at the service unit or council level. You can volunteer for a special event, program, or project while collaborating with or mentoring other Girl Scouts.
• Recognize veterans and active-service personnel by making cards or planning a special event.
Be recognized as a leader in your community. Requirements for the Community Service Bar and Service to Girl Scouting Bar can be found in the Girl’s Guide to Girl Scouting. Fall/Winter 2017

Are you ready to travel the world? Girl Scout Destinations are the ultimate adventure for girls ages 11 and older. With a variety trips ever year, there’s something amazing for everyone to experience. Travel with Girl Scouts from all over the country, make new friends, and come back home with bags full of inspiring, life-changing experiences.
ENGLAND IRELAND & WALES
Elizabeth, Kenzie, and Samantha shared their amazing Destinations experiences with us. If you’re thinking about applying for a Destination, check out one of our upcoming webinars!
Elizabeth
I can say with complete honesty that this Destination was an adventure I will never forget. So much happened in just a matter of days! I’ve always wanted to travel, and getting the opportunity to visit Ireland, Wales, and England was a dream come true. I’ve made 13 new friends and I have made memories that will last a lifetime. I’ve learned so much about other countries, money, and life. I’m thankful I could go, and I will always “mind the gap”—that’s a London thing!

My Destination was a combination of learning to surf every morning and experiencing different parts of the Florida coast throughout the afternoon. During the three hours of surfing, the waves went from coming up high on the beach to slowly retreating into the ocean. There were flags all along the beach to mark where sea turtles had nested—the cities along the coast are working hard to preserve a natural and safe habitat for the sea turtles to continue breeding. I learned so much about preserving nature and it strengthened my desire to work with animals in the future! In addition, it was awesome to meet girls from all over the United States. I forged lifelong friendships during out time surfing together, exploring the Kennedy Space Center, and feeding the Lorikeets at the Brevard Zoo.

S E R A D VENTU
Interestingly enough, we didn’t just stay in Wyoming during my Destination! We spent time at the Teton Mountains and Yellowstone National Park. The focus of my trip was exploring the wonders of wildlife in both areas. During the week, I learned about different ecosystems, the animal inhabitants, the natural beauty of the region and how it was formed, plus the complexity and importance of the circle of life. This Destination taught me confidence, how to look and interact with the world differently, and inspired me to share my newly gained knowledge with a group of special needs peers—which is my passion. Plus, all the friendships I’ve made is a bonus!

National Young Women of Distinction Meet the Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland nominees for National Young Women of Distinction— an honor given to 10 Girl Scouts from across the country each year. All nominees need to have earned their Girl Scout Gold Award and have shown exceptional impact with their Take Action projects. Meet Maria, Elaina, and Hannah, three Girl Scouts from Ohio’s Heartland who were nominated for this year’s National Young Women of Distinction.
Maria Basile Maria has first-hand experience in the benefits of synchronized swimming. She understands that everyone doesn’t have the opportunity to participate in organized sports—as a solution, Maria used creative advertising to announce her free synchronized swimming clinic at the local YMCA. Her swimming team will continue these clinics and expand their reach with additional locations.
Elaina Kim Elaina developed a website with streamlined networking to assist low income and immigrant youth through the path of college preparation and applications. She held workshops to educate middle and high school students on the resources available and inspire them to look toward a future of higher education. Elaina’s website has made a global impact, with views in areas as distant as Australia.
Hannah Reikowsky Hannah’s Take Action project focused on food stability. She worked within her church community to establish a weekly, sustainable hot meal for individuals who experience food insecurity. She was completely committed to educating the community on the needs and services provided by the Meals Together program. Her use of social media and outreach to surrounding counties has ensured that this program will continue to feed people in need for years to come.
