Welcome to

myGSOH We’ve made it easy for you to find programs in your favorite category by adding icons to each program description. Get ready to start exploring and pick your favorite activities!

Life Skills  Arts & Humanities  Health & Wellness  Advocacy & Engagement Through our Life Skills programs, girls develop a strong sense of self and their potential, they discover the importance of staying active and making healthy choices, and become more confident leaders who want to make the world a better place. By giving them different perspectives and opportunities to make a difference, we inspire girls to give back and share the good!

Entrepreneur

 The Fall Product Program and Girl Scout Cookie Program are two ways for girls to earn while they learn and run their own business. They develop important life skills—goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics—that will set them up for success beyond anything they can imagine.

Outdoor Education

 Experiencing the outdoors is a great way to develop an appreciation for nature, build skills, and see the Earth as our home. Whether girls hike a mountain, camp under the stars, or learn how to ride horses, our programs give them the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors in new and adventurous ways!

Camp

Hacks

Creatively solve problems to use your time and resources wisely.

DIY MATTRESS PAD

If you have a little extra space in your duffel bag or backpack, bring along a rectangular inflatable pool float. Slip it under your sleeping bag for a DIY mattress pad.

first-aid kits

Use a water-resistant backpack for first aid items instead of a box or bag. It’s sturdy and allows for hands-free carrying. Get a red one so it’s always easy to find. In a group? Have everyone take a turn carrying it as a reminder of how important it is to have one.

Spring/Summer 2018

Frisbees

A frisbee, yes a frisbee, is a great multi-purpose tool! Use one to make friends at camp with a quick game or flip it over for a reusable plate.

JUG LIGHT

Create a little extra light using a transparent water bottle or jug. Put a headlamp around your water bottle and flip the light inward. Tada! Soft, ambient light.

SHOWER CAP SHOE COVER

Summer rain have your boots all muddy? A shower cap is the perfect size to fit both shoes in and keep them from dirtying the inside of your tent.

Sit-upons

An old Girl Scout tradition, sit-upons are used to stay dry and clean when sitting outdoors. Try a traditional one or make one to carry your gear using a five-gallon bucket. Pad the top of the lid with a pillow or stuffing and cover with waterproof material, like a shower curtain or tablecloth. You can attach the seat with hot glue or store it in the bucket until you need it.

Sponge Ice Pack

Wet a sponge, place it in a small zip-top bag and freeze it. You can use it to keep your lunch cold or as an ice pack. Chemical-free and reusable.

1

Earn a Leader in Action award.

2

Complete the Program Aide training by checking out our Program Aide Workshop kit or doing the training with your troop or service unit.

3

Volunteer at six program sessions (troop, service unit, or council programs).

All volunteer opportunities in this section count toward your six program sessions required to earn your PA award. Teen Volunteer Opportunities (CIT/VIT/APL) Volunteering at a GSOH program is a great way to give back, share your passion for Girl Scouting, and sharpen your leadership skills. Haven’t earned your CIT, VIT, or APL award? That’s okay, you can still volunteer to help out! You just might like it so much that you’ll want to earn one of these outstanding awards.

What is a CIT?

What is a VIT?

What is an APL?

A Counselor-in-Training (CIT) is a high school girl who mentors younger girls in a camp setting. CIT1 and CIT2 awards are earned by participating in a resident camp leadership training program.

A Volunteer-in-Training (VIT) is a girl in grades 10-12 who mentors girls outside of the camp experience. To earn the VIT award, you must attend a council VIT training course and implement a thoughtful program that lasts four or more sessions with the same girls.

An Advance Program Leader is a day camp assistant who develops and leads specialty areas based on her specific skills and interests. APLs have progressed through several summers of day camp Program Aide training.
