the gsoh Summer 2014
Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
State of the Girl Breakfast Highlights Current Girl Issues
An interactive discussion among community leaders, hosted by WBNS 10TV anchor Tracy Townsend, kicked off our first annual State of the Girl breakfast in March. Speakers Lilleana Cavanaugh, Dr. Valerie Lee, and Columbus Police Chief Kimberly Jacobs shared insights on the issues girls are currently facing. Economic diversity, education, and social challenges, as well as our girl speakers’ personal stories emphasized the importance of taking action on behalf of girls. Our data from the Girl Scout Research Institute’s State of Girls: Unfinished Business was presented as a callto-action to break down barriers hindering girls’ leadership and future success. If you missed this first State of the Girl event, or if you want to stay current on the real issues affecting our girls, we encourage you to subscribe to our monthly Glimpse of the Girl e-newsletter.
