Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.

Girl Scout Convention 2014 Oh, What a Week!

Every three years, Girl Scouts from throughout the U.S. and beyond gather at the National Council Session and Convention to rally around our Girl Scout Movement. Here, Girl Scouts celebrate the strides we’ve made and chart our future. The 2014 Girl Scout Convention took place in Salt Lake City, Utah from October 16-19. Six girls represented our council, plus several staff members and volunteers. Everyone came back energized and ready to share the event’s theme, “Discover, Connect, Take Action: Girls Change the World.” Check out some of our photos from the 2014 Convention. Columbus, Ohio will proudly host the next convention in 2017! See you in C-bus!

sound bites Alumnae Spotlight: A Leader for Life Hillary Tate has been in Girl Scouts since the first grade. Now, she is graduating from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Architecture and two minors in city and regional planning and German. Girl Scouts helped her gain leadership experience that she has used in every aspect of her life. Now, she is president and founder of Campus Girl Scouts, connecting with the troops of GSOH and reminding young women that Girl Scouts is for all ages. Hillary’s passion for Girl Scouting makes her a role model girls are sure to remember.

We were impressed with the amazing artwork that we received and selected three winners this year: Reagan, Girl Scout Junior Troop 1570 (left) Alexa, Girl Scout Junior Troop 2053 (right, top) Emma, Girl Scout Brownie Troop 2558 (right, bottom) A special thanks to everyone who contributed and we look forward to next year’s competition. B A R S 20th ANNIVERSARY

Celebrating a Milestone 20 Years in the Making GSOH’s Girl Scouts Bonds Beyond Bars turned 20 in October! Community leaders, including long-time program champion Franklin County Commissioner Marilyn Brown, and other community supporters joined us for a special anniversary celebration November 1 at the Ohio Reformatory for Women. More than 100 attended the event and NBC4 aired the story. What a great way to celebrate a program that our council was the first to pilot in 1994! Here’s to another 20 years of trailblazing and building bridges.

Girls Can Get Even More Outdoorsy in 2015! Girl Scouts have been earning badges for more than 100 years. And coming this fall 2015, they’ll have new ways to explore their interests in the great outdoors! That’s when four new Outdoor Badges will be added—one each at Brownie, Junior, Cadette, and Senior levels! Girls will take the lead on deciding which new badges will be created. First, they will vote on which Outdoor content area they’re interested in: Outdoor Recreation, Outdoor Environment, or Outdoor Survival. Once GSUSA has a majority vote on the content area, girls will vote on the actual badge topic (for example: Hiking, Camping, Trail Blazing, etc.), based on their grade level. The big reveal of the fall 2015 Girls’ Choice badges will happen on March 12, 2015! We can’t wait to see what the girls come up with! Stay tuned for the announcement on our council’s Facebook and Twitter pages this spring.

What do hearty oatmeal cookies with plump raisins and Greek yogurt-flavored chunks and rich, buttery cookies full of golden toffee bits have in common? They are our two new flavors — Rah-Rah Raisins and Toffee-tastic. They’ll be debuting during this year’s Girl Scout Cookie Program, along with the familiar favorites, including Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, Do-Si-does, Trefoils and Savannah Smiles.
