The Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality Administration offers three international exchange programs for students who want a study abroad experience lengthier than the typical few weeks. These programs give students a chance to study in another country for a full semester and are open to undergraduate students within the Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality Administration who meet academic requirements of the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University. Georgia State sponsored exchange programs are formal exchange agreements with foreign universities around the world. Exchanges offer semester-long studies at a foreign university, and classes are taught in English. Exchange programs are among the most affordable study abroad options. The costs are roughly similar to spending a semester on campus in Atlanta. Students who are independent tend to do well on exchange programs. These programs offer a high level of cultural immersion, as students will be taking their courses at the overseas partner institution with local students.

Fall or Spring Exchange Program The Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality Administration and the Université de Savoie established a student exchange partnership for Robinson College of Business students to study in France and take hospitality courses during spring semester each year.
Hong Kong is one of the world’s leading financial centers and one of Asia’s most attractive countries for tourism and quality of living. One of China’s Special Administrative Countries, the city is still influenced by its English history, which creates a unique “East meets West” culture.
At the base of the French Alps, the Université de Savoie is host to one of the largest hospitality, travel and event management programs in Europe. With more than 13,000 students between three campuses, the quaint town of Chambéry, France, is bustling with student life. Georgia State hospitality students have the opportunity to spend their spring semester in France to earn course credit towards their B.B.A. degree. Hospitality courses are taught in English, and basic or intermediate French language classes are available for course credit. While studying at the Université de Savoie, students are able to explore the surrounding cities, spend a weekend by the lake or take a short bus ride to ski down the French Alps. Structured weekend trips and group outings are offered throughout the semester to broaden cultural horizons and encourage friendships between fellow international exchange students. Institute for Tourism Studies Fall or Spring Exchange Program The Institute for Tourism Studies offers degree and professional programs in a wide range of tourism-related disciplines such as hospitality, tourism business, heritage, events, retail and marketing, leisure and entertainment, sports and recreation, creative and cultural studies, and culinary arts. While in Macao, students have the opportunity to experience the black sand beaches, explore the cobblestone lanes and art deco buildings and take in the fusion of Chinese and Portuguese cultures. Macao is a short ferry ride away from Hong Kong, allowing students to visit and explore mainland China while abroad. This international exchange program offers Georgia State students the opportunity to spend a full semester studying hotel and tourism management at one of the top-ranked programs in the world. While studying at The School of Hotel & Tourism Management at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, students are able to broaden their global outlook, gain new knowledge, develop independence and make new friends.
Eligibility Students who participate in any study abroad program must be in good academic standing, which is defined as a cumulative 2.5 GPA for upper-level courses. Students must also not be on academic probation, suspension or exclusion. Students who are not in good academic standing will not be permitted to study abroad as a student of Georgia State. Transfer students must complete at least one term at Georgia State before they can study abroad. International students wishing to study abroad should meet with an adviser in the International Student & Scholar Services Office to verify their visa will allow them to study in a country other than the U.S. Georgia State requires every student who receives an undergraduate degree to meet the academic residency requirement. You must have at least 39 semester hours of 3000- or 4000-level course credit (taken on campus in Atlanta or abroad on a Georgia State credit-earning program). Any course at the 3000 or 4000 level will count toward the residency requirement. Please check with your academic adviser to ensure you will meet residency requirements within your planned graduation timeframe. Applicants must hold a valid passport and must apply for the necessary student visa to study abroad.
Program Cost Exchange students are required to pay all Georgia State tuition and fees associated with enrolling in the courses. Additional program costs include airfare, housing, public transportation and meals while studying at the foreign university.
