HOUSING AT GEORGIA SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY
STATESBORO • SAVANNAH
UNIVERSITY HOUSING TERMINOLOGY: Resident Advisors (RAs) are student staff members who live in an assigned community to assist with the safety and success of residential students. RAs are responsible for fostering a healthy community through upholding policies, mediating student concerns, referring students to campus resources, and hosting social events for their assigned students/hall. Graduate Resident Directors (GRDs) are graduate student staff pursuing a Master’s degree. GRDs are responsible for supervision of RAs, responding to student needs & behavior concerns, assisting in developing the residence hall community, overseeing building management, and more. Resident Directors (RDs) are full time, Master’s level employees responsible for ensuring the safety and security of residential students, responding to student concerns, managing crisis situations, developing students, and connecting students to campus resources. RDs supervise both GRD and RA staff, and are the main point of contact for your assigned building. Residential Learning Communities (RLCs) are specialty communities residents elect to be a part of, and focus on similar majors or areas of interest. Students who live in these communities may have course or program requirements and must complete a separate application to join. First Year Live On Requirement (FYLOR) is a policy stating first-year students must live on campus their first year at Georgia Southern University. Residence Halls are living accommodations for students at either the Armstrong or Statesboro campuses of Georgia Southern University.

BUILDING COMMUNITY Residence Education and Residence Life staff put on programs throughout the year which aid in integrating students into the college experience and building the micro-communities of University Housing.
Engage...
Our staff know living on campus is more than just having a place to sleep. It is a place for you to grow as individuals, connect with others, and understand the impact you have on your community. In addition to these benefits, you are more likely to earn a higher GPA and graduate in a shorter period of time (as compared to students living off-campus). Because of this, our staff works hard each day to provide our students with a supportive and challenging experience which helps them succeed in the halls and beyond. We believe students who participate in the residential experience will become engaged citizens and resilient, lifelong learners who actively contribute to the betterment of themselves and their communities. Learning goals within Residence Education and Residence Life teach students how to... • Commit to Self-Discovery • Become an Engaged Citizen • Contribute to Inclusive Communities • Develop as lifelong Learner
WINDWARD COMMONS - ARMSTRONG CAMPUS
Educate...
Students who live on campus are proven to gain higher levels of academic success. Not only is there the convenience of living right next to academic buildings, but students in a residence hall can easily find study groups and peers capable of helping them with their projects. Residence Education and Residence Life programs highlight student support services throughout each campus, and give students exposure to resources they may be unaware of. Living on campus provides students of Georgia Southern University with countless opportunities to meet peers and create long lasting friendships. Within a residence hall, there are students from a variety of backgrounds and ethnicities. On-campus life encourages students to get out of their comfort zone and interact with a diverse student population. The social, educational, and recreational opportunities are boundless!

APPLY NOW
Join the Eagle Nation and preference the hall of your choice Application Process
((1)) Housing assignments for all students are made on
a first-come, first-served basis with priority given to freshmen and transfer students with fewer than 30 credit hours. The most important factor in determining where you will be assigned to live is the date your completed housing application is received. This date is determined after your online housing application has been completed and your non-refundable registration fee has been received by University Housing.
((2)) University Housing will use the date your application is completed to assign your space, so the
earlier you apply, the better your chances are of getting the room and roommate you prefer. This is especially true for the first-year residence halls, which are in high demand. Housing is not guaranteed for transfer or upper-class students with more than 30 hours.
((3)) Incoming students can begin applying for housing once they have been accepted to Georgia Southern University and will be sent an email notice when eligible to apply. STATESBORO CAMPUS
ARMSTRONG CAMPUS
((4)) Students who apply by the priority deadline of
March 1 will receive their housing assignments by April 1. Students who apply after March 1 will receive their housing assignments during the summer.
Students who apply by the priority deadline of April 1 will receive their housing assignments by May 1. Students who apply after April 1 will receive their housing assignments during the summer.
Based upon room styles and capacities, ((5)) students wishing to attend the Statesboro Campus may request up to three ( 3 ) roommates and list up to five ( 5 ) room-style preferences as part of the housing application.
Based upon room styles and capacities, students may request up to one ( 1 ) roommate and list up to three ( 3 ) room-style preferences as part of the housing application. Transfer students select their own housing.
Actual room assignments will take your housing preferences into account; however, placement will be made based upon space availability.
Roommate Matching
Applicants will be able to answer several lifestyle choice questions as part of the housing application. These questions, along with your housing preferences, will be used to make roommate pairings when assignments are made. AMENITIES & OTHER INFO Experience the benefits of living on campus Internet Service
Internet in the residential environment is a high-speed service provided as part of the overall room rate to all residential students.
Maintenance and Repairs
If you need any maintenance or repair services, an online work order request system is available to students 24 hours a day. Residence hall staff can assist students with after hours maintenance or repair needs.
Laundry Services
Student housing fees cover the use of washers and dryers in University Housing properties. No additional change or loading of cards is needed in order to operate the machines. Residence halls are equipped with high-efficiency washing machines and dryers.
Housing Accommodations
University Housing works with the Student Accessibility Resource Center (SARC) to provide reasonable accommodations for students with diagnosed disabilities. Students requesting accommodations for disabilities should utilize the resources available on the SARC website to make the accommodations request: students.georgiasouthern.edu/sarc.
Insurance
University Housing does not provide insurance for personal belongings. Students are strongly advised to speak to their parent/guardian’s insurance company or to obtain renter’s insurance for personal property brought to Georgia Southern University. Many policies available include coverage for belongings damaged or lost outside the room (cell phones, laptops, etc.). Coverage can continue if a student moves off campus in subsequent years. In addition, students are encouraged to purchase liability insurance coverage for damage done to facilities as a result of accident or mishap in case they are found to be at fault for damage (e.g. leaving something on the stove and causing smoke or fire damage to the unit). Many policies that provide coverage for belongings do not include this type of coverage.
LiveSafe App
The LiveSafe app provides two-way, real-time interactions with Public Safety that include text, calls, photos, and videos. The app also provides relevant safety resources and peer-topeer safety tools. The app is available as a free download for all Georgia Southern students, faculty, and staff. In addition, Georgia Southern parents may download LiveSafe to receive alerts and notifications.
Service animals and emotional support animals are permitted as outlined by the Americans with Disabilities Act and Fair Housing Act. Approval from the SARC is required for the use of emotional support animals within residence halls.
