How do I prepare for Inclement Weather?

This week's ResEd Maintenance Tip of the Week is centered around Laundry etiquette: -Laundry services are included in the residence hall fee paid each semester and therefore, residents do not have to pay to do laundry at the machines. -The washers require only one-fourth of the amount of laundry detergent typically used in standard machines. -Residents using dryers should clean the lint filter/screen before and after each load of clothes. -If you find there is a problem with the laundry equipment in your residence hall, please submit a work order request

It is that time of year when we experience a lot of thunderstorms, tropical storms, and even possibly hurricanes in our region. It is important to be mindful of what to do and not do during times of inclement weather. Here are some helpful tips to keep in mind: 1. Do not panic. Stay calm and use your better judgement. 2. If the power goes out, be sure to contact University Police at 912-344-3333 or the RA on Duty for WC at 912-429-9063 or the RA on Duty for the APTs at 912-3143588. University Officials will contact Georgia Power. The lobby and hallways of Windward Commons run off of generators when the power is out. If you can get to Windward safely, please feel free to drop by! 3. Read your GS email and blast notifications for updates and latest news on inclement weather. 4. If you receive notice to stay indoors and in a designated safe weather location, please follow these instructions. They are provided for your overall safety. Housing staff will also not venture outside if given instructions by the blast notification system to stay indoors. 5. If you reside on the first floor unit of any apartment style community, then you have an

obligation to allow safe access into your space if inclement weather requires it. 6. Have a hurricane plan in place. Think about where you would go in case a hurricane were to affect our area. Depending on the severity of the hurricane, we may have to evacuate campus and may not be able to return for three days or longer (depending on damage caused). 7. Read additional information in our Residential Community Guide.
