This week's ResEd Maintenance Tip of the Week is centered around fire safety. Room decorations/Wall decor can become a fire safety issue you do not adhere to the regulations. Do not suspend any item from the ceiling, including, but not limited to fishnets, parachutes, stripper poles, holiday lights, and flags. c. Do not be in possession of or display alcohol paraphernalia, including, but not limited to funnels, beer bongs, shot dispensers, or other methods of alcohol delivery. d. Do not affix any item to a wall, ceiling, or floor in a manner that may create damage to the surface. e. Do not display any item facing outward toward public spaces in windows or on porches/balconies of on‐campus residential facilities (i.e., flags, posters, illuminated lights, etc.). f. Campus Closure vs. Campus Evacuation—Knowing the Difference When deemed necessary, Georgia Southern will issue notification that a campus is being either closed or evacuated. When a campus closure or evacuation is issued, University Housing will send out information requesting your evacuation plans. A campus closure means the university will shut down all non-essential functions, and students will be encouraged to seek shelter outside the path of a storm. University Housing’s residence halls will remain open for residential students who need a place to stay; however, students who choose to remain in Housing will be responsible for gathering their own supplies as they prepare for a storm. Residence hall staff remain available to assist in the event of an emergency, but will not provide supplies for students. All University policies remain in effect during a storm, and students who remain in University Housing will be held responsible for misconduct that occurs during the closure. During a storm, the University may lose power or water, and conditions may be uncomfortable until amenities are restored. A campus evacuation means the University shuts down all functions, and residential students are required to find alternative housing arrangements for the duration of the evacuation. Once the evacuation is ordered, no one may remain in or return to the residence halls until the evacuation has been lifted. In the event of an evacuation, University Housing may require residents to check out with Housing personnel to confirm
products) when hanging decorations. h. Do not affix any item to a fire rated door (i.e., decorating or posting on your apartment/unit door, etc.).
your departure and plans for evacuation, in addition to checking all residence hall rooms. Georgia Southern does not provide transportation or shelter in the event of an evacuation, therefore you need to plan accordingly.
