2023 Camp Catalog Girl Scouts of Utah

For more than 110 years, Girl Scouts have discovered, explored, and strengthened their outdoor skills and commitment to environmental stewardship through Girl Scouting. Guided by supportive adults and peers, Girl Scouts discover the wonders of nature, experience the thrill of adventure, and strive to reach new heights! Girl Scouts’ national outdoor programming features a variety of fun, challenging, and empowering experiential activities. Some of the skills, attitudes and behaviors members develop include the following:
Girl Scouts engage safely and responsibly in a range of outdoor activities (e.g., practicing Leave No Trace and knowing what to bring to be prepared in the outdoors).
Girl Scouts have confidence in their outdoor abilities and are willing to try new and challenging outdoor activities.
Outdoor Interest
Girl Scouts have a love of nature and an interest in the natural world.
Environmental Stewardship
Girl Scouts understand how their behaviors impact the environment and what they can do to protect the natural world.
Camping provides Girl Scouts a rich experience away from home. Camp is a great place for a Girl Scouts to unlock their potential and to discover the world and the great outdoors. This unique environment will help your camper develop positive self-esteem, leadership skills, and social skills — all while having the time of their life.
The summer camp experience is truly a building block in the development of Girl Scouts, helping them become successful and resourceful young adults. In this outdoor setting, Girl Scouts develop a strong sense of self, gain practical life skills, become resourceful problem solvers, and cultivate healthy relationships by living and working together.
Take this quiz with a parent or caregiver to help you both decide what kind of outdoor experience is your best fit this summer! Keep track of your points using the scale, then add up the points and compare your score to our recommendations. Be honest! Also, be aware that this is just a recommendation. You and your family know you and your comfort level best.

*GSU camps welcome participants and staff from diverse backgrounds including races, religions, socioeconomic status, gender expressions, etc. Attendees should be open and accepting of interacting with others who are different than them.
At Girl Scouts of Utah, we know you want your camper to have a chance for personal development in a safe environment. We also know campers want to have a fun adventure. We work to provide both, by hiring and training qualified staff and offering a quality outdoor experience.
Girl Scouts of Utah’s full-time Outdoor Program team is in place to ensure an exceptional experience for your Girl Scout — and peace of mind for you.
Meet the Outdoor Program Team in the Camp Orientation Guide at www.gsutah.org/camp-guide.
Girl Scouts of Utah Camps are proud to be accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA) and meet high standards for program design and activities, site and food service, transportation, health and wellness, operation management, and human resources.
Our camp staff are talented, energetic role models. Staff are selected based on hard and soft skills and childcare experience. As part of our values, we are committed to inclusion and diversity on our Girl Scouts of Utah staff team. We actively seek to employ a diverse group of individuals from a variety of different races, religions, socioeconomic statuses, gender identities, and backgrounds.

Camp Cloud Rim sits at an elevation of 9,200 feet near Park City, nestled among the aspen and pine trees on the shores of Lake Brimhall.
Camp Cloud Rim has beautiful facilities including a lodge and shower house, electricity, hot water, and flush toilets.
Campers stay in cabins or platform tents with staff located nearby. A highlight of Camp Cloud Rim is Lake Brimhall where campers can canoe, sail, kayak, and swim. Other activities include pottery, rock climbing, hiking, and backpacking.
Trefoil Ranch is located on 123 acres of ranch country tucked away in Provo Canyon. Trefoil Ranch features a lodge, ranch house, bunkhouse, showers, electricity, hot water, and flush toilets. Trefoil Ranch is home to our herd of horses, offering unique opportunities to experience equestrian programs.
Campers stay in cabins or platform tents with staff located nearby. Activities include horseback riding instruction, high and low ropes courses, archery, woodworking, hatchet throwing, and hiking.
The safety of our Girl Scouts, volunteers, and staff is the highest priority for Girl Scouts of Utah. We continue to monitor this fluctuating situation and will determine summer camp COVID protocols in spring 2023 based on recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA), and the American Camp Association (ACA).
Current GSU COVID-19 protocols can be found at www.gsutah.org and are subject to change.
Camp fees help cover all the expenses associated with our camps such as property maintenance, utilities, insurance, gear, supplies, food, activities, and staff. Our camp fees have seen an increase for summer 2023 due to increased food costs, supply costs, and staff salaries.
It is important to us that camp fees are not a barrier to participation. We have developed several ways to help pay for camp, including Activity Credits, tiered pricing, and activity scholarships.
Camp payments are due in full by June 1, 2023. Deadline updated after original printing.
Girl Scout programming is powered by the Girl Scout Cookie Program through Activity Credits. Cookie sellers receive Activity Credits to help pay for summer camps, day camps, program activities, Girl Scout membership fees, and items in the Girl Scout Shop.
Each camp or activity indicates the number of packages of cookies to sell to attend that program using Activity Credits. Girl Scouts can work with a supportive adult to use these quantities to help set their cookie-selling goals. Each camp requires a $50 non-refundable deposit in addition to the number of packages sold.
To apply Activity Credits to a camp balance, simply bring in or mail the credits to any Girl Scout office with the Program, Event, and Camp Payment Form (found at www.gsutah.org/forms). You will receive email confirmation once the payment has been applied.
Tiered pricing makes it possible for all campers to have the same experience regardless of what their caregiver can afford. Tiered prices are listed with each camp session description and should be selected based on the family’s budget. Girl Scouts of Utah strives to ensure household finances are not a barrier when paying for a camp experience. No financial documentation is required.
Tier One (T1):
The actual cost to run camps: staffing, program supplies, food, and maintenance costs.
Available to: GSU members, members from other councils, non-members.
Tier Two (T2):
Partially subsidized cost for families that can pay a little more, but not the actual cost of camp.
Available to: GSU members, members from other councils.
Tier Three (T3):
The standard fee that all GSU members are asked to pay. Girl Scouts of Utah subsidizes the entire remainder of the cost.
Available to: GSU members only
Activity scholarships are available for Girl Scouts of Utah members if assistance is needed to pay for Tier Three (T3).
This program helps individual campers who are registered Girl Scouts of Utah members and wish to attend Girl Scouts of Utah-sponsored camps or programs but are unable to due to financial restraints. This program is not a reward, nor is it a way to repay volunteer work a caregiver might have done in Girl Scouting. The decision to grant an activity scholarship, and the amount, is based on information provided on the application form. All information is confidential and discussed only by those responsible for allocating money.
Applications for an activity scholarship may be submitted after the completion of the initial registration and a $50 non-refundable deposit is paid. Scholarship requests for summer camp are accepted between March 1 and April 1. Scholarship awards will be applied to camp balances no later than May 1. All applications received after April 1 will be awarded based on funding available at that time.
Apply for activity scholarships at www.gsutah.org/forms.

Sessions may be altered or canceled due to weather, fire, natural disaster, staffing challenges, or low registration numbers. If a session is canceled due to low registration numbers, campers will be given the opportunity to select another program. No refunds will be issued if changes are made to activities due to weather, fire, or natural disaster. However, if changes become necessary due to the impact of COVID-19, we will offer alternate program options or the option to choose a refund. The Camp Director may determine whether a camper is competent to participate in any activity, and, if necessary, transfer the camper to another program. When necessary, campers will participate in alternate activities. Campers are expected to follow the Girl Scout Promise and Law. If a camper is unable to follow camp guidelines, damages property, or becomes a danger to themselves or others, the Camp Director will work with the camper and may elect to send them home.

It is our goal to provide a positive experience for all individuals who attend our camp programs. Help ensure your camper’s success by contacting us prior to registration regarding your camper and their experience – including disabilities and mental and physical health needs. This allows us the opportunity to discuss and determine appropriate accommodations so they can be successful while at camp. The Outdoor Program Team can also help guide you toward the best programs and locations for your camper.
Your camper may request one buddy online, however, the system does not automatically place them together – that is up to you. If your camper wants to go to camp with a buddy, make sure to register for the same session (including age range). When completing your online forms, there is an opportunity to list the name of your camper’s camp buddy.
The $50 deposit is non-refundable. The remainder of the camp fee ($50 deposit excluded) will be refunded if:
» GSU receives an email (info@gsutah.org) notification at least three weeks prior to the start date of the camp program.
» Camper leaves the camp program due to illness or injury and GSU receives an email (info@gsutah.org) request for a refund within two weeks after camper returns home. Refunds will be pro-rated on per-diem basis.
» GSU cancels the camp program and alternative programs were offered, but you choose to not select an alternative program.
Cancellations within three weeks of the start date of the camp program:
» If a camper is unable to attend camp due to illness, injury, family emergency, etc. GSU will work with families to see if the registration can be transferred to another camp program in the current summer.
» If an alternative program cannot be found for the same summer (June 1 – August 15), families will receive credit for the amount paid for the program ($50 deposit excluded) for the following summer (terms and restrictions apply).
No refunds will be provided if a girl returns home due to homesickness, misconduct, parent/guardian request, and/or any other circumstance.
