Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain

The word Chrismon is the combination of two words, Christ and monogram. Each Chrismon depicts a specific Christian element in the form of a hanging Christmas tree ornament. These decorations are made with pearls, gold beads and crystal beads strung on wire. There is an extra cost for materials.
In this course you will learn and practice the five basic skills of drawing in a fun, effective way inspired by Betty Edwards’ best-selling book, “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain.” Bring a 9” x 12” drawing pad and No. 2 pencils with eraser to the first class. The Structures Manufacturing program is a 17-week course, divided into 3 main technically certificated areas; ‘Introduction to Structures’(IS), ‘Manufacturing Core Skills ‘(MCS) and ‘Structures Assembly’ (SA). Introduced within the early stages of the course is a ‘Careers Readiness Certificate’ (CRC) and ‘Human Resource Development’ (HRD) components, both very important constituents for future employee opportunities. Graduates of this program will be readily prepared for entrylevel employment in the sheet metal structures environment. The course introduces the fundamentals of aviation, supported with practical exposure to the skills necessary to be a successful structures technician.
The Composite Technology Level 1 program is a 3-week course that instructs the layman and skilled professionals the fundamentals of advanced composite fabrication, repairs and processes. Advanced composites are used in many applications and continues to be a primary consideration when replacing other structural components for the reason of its great strength-to weight advantages. Graduates of the program will be readily prepared for entry-level employment in the composite manufacturing environment. The course introduces the many fundamentals of advanced composites and upon completion of the course, the successful graduate will be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of advanced composite structure fabrication, repair methods, materials and application techniques.

Basket Making This course is designed to teach basic to advanced level basketry techniques and terms included dyeing and weaving with reed. Weaving with painted paper is also available. First-time students will start with a reed basket and can move on from there. Participants may complete two to three baskets in one session. Please bring to class a basin, spray bottle, small screw driver, measuring tape, pencil, towel and heavy-duty scissors. There will be an extra cost for materials.

Introduction to Structures (IS) This 3-week initial course is a prerequisite to Manufacturing Core Skills (MCS) and provides the inexperienced student with an introduction into the basics of sheet metal and composite structures, in order to assemble and fabricate typical component parts. It involves a brief overview of materials used in aviation and manufacturing to include an insight into safety, common tooling, interpreting engineering drawings, structural fasteners, precision instruments and manufacturing techniques. Manufacturing Core Skills (MCS) After successful completion of the IS course, this online 4-week course is a prerequisite to Structures Assembly and is designed to further enhance student’s knowledge about the aerospace manufacturing industry. It will provide an increased awareness of the product parts produced, as well as the tooling, materials, and procedures necessary to be successful as an employee of an aerospace manufacturing organization. Structures Assembly (SA) This 9-week course provides the student with both online and practical elements specializing in assembling and dismantling structural component parts commonly used in both the aviation and manufacturing industries. The course will enhance previous knowledge and introduce many practical structural metallic fabrication techniques produced in accordance with local technical data. Supported with the knowledge gained from previous courses; “Introduction to Structures” and “Manufacturing Core Skills”, the successful graduate will be more readily prepared to face the many challenges presented in the metallic structural world in both industries. Composite Technology Level 1 Overview • Learn about the reinforcement materials and resins used for producing wet layups, prep laminates and sandwich panel layups. • Familiarization of common equipment such as the single/dual hot bonders, oven, autoclave, vacuum tables and moisture tester. • Use the various heat sources available with advanced composites from heat blankets, infrared lamps to hot air machines. • Perform some of the common processes used with advanced composites. • Produce standard vacuumed layups for laminate and core fabrications. • Accomplish repairs on laminate and sandwich core assemblies. • Test the product and perform simple destructive and non-destructive techniques. Customer Service Representative A career as a Customer Service Representative spans many industries; call centers, retail, sales, hospitality, food services, and other office environments. This course is designed to provide students with the work-ready skills needed to effectively connect with customers. Students will be taught skills to meet customer needs, how to evaluate and resolve complaints from customers in a positive way, and ways to satisfy and retain customers. Forklift Operator
State and federal regulations require an Activity Director working in an assisted living or a skilled nursing facility to complete a state approved Activity Training course. Individuals completing this course will receive a certificate of completion and can use this course as a step toward national certification for Activity Directors.
This forklift operator training is taught by an OSHA compliant Instructor. Training is 11 hours. It is a comprehensive, hands-on program that covers every aspect of lift truck training. Students will learn to appreciate and respect ASL as a living, unique and wholly naturally-occurring language, and recognize deaf people as a community with its own set of cultural traditions and values. Students will become more familiar with deaf culture, history, folklore, community, and sub-communities such as the Deaf-Blind community in Greensboro. To appreciate and respect deaf culture, students must understand the signed language. Students will learn appropriate cultural behaviors such as directing and maintaining attention, and a way of talking that keeps others informed. This course is designed to meet training requirements for the North Carolina Board of Nursing Medication Aide Certification. The training prepares certified Nurse Aides to administer medications to long term care residents. Course topics include scope of duties; legal and ethical responsibilities; administration of medications by various routes; infection control; and documentation including commonly used abbreviations. Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a certificate and are then eligible to take the state competency exam administered under NC Division of Health Services Regulation. Initial EMT-Basic This course is designed to train individuals to become emergency medical personnel. Cardiac Monitor Technician This comprehensive Cardiac Monitor Technician Certification Course prepares students to function as Cardiac Monitor Technicians in the acute healthcare setting. This course will include fundamental information on anatomy and physiology of the heart and cardiovascular system, medical disease processes, medical terminology, medical legal ethics, and communication with other healthcare team members, and intensive ECG monitor strip interpretations. Additionally, students will spend 24 hours participating in the clinical environment working with Cardiac Monitor Technicians. PHLEBOTOMY TRAINING PROGRAM The profession of phlebotomy is taught through didactic, student laboratory, and clinical experiences. The student will be trained to perform a variety of blood collection methods using proper techniques and precautions including: vacuum collection devices, syringes, capillary skin puncture, butterfly needles and blood culture specimen collection on adults, children and infants. Emphasis will be placed on infection prevention, proper patient identification, proper labeling of specimens, and quality assurance. Students will be taught specimen handling, processing and accessioning. Students will learn the theory and principles of CLIA waived laboratory tests and perform the tests in the student laboratory. Dropping and Adding Classes
If you want to drop a class and receive a refund, the amount of your refund will depend on when you drop the class. Please refer to the refund policy. In compliance with State Board policy, GTCC will refund 100% of tuition and fees if you officially drop from the class before the first class meeting by contacting the appropriate Departmental Coordinator or the Continuing Education Registrar’s Office.
Course Repetition Policy
In 1993, the N.C. legislature enacted a law that requires anyone who takes the same occupational extension course more than twice within a five-year period to pay an additional cost of $6.41-$7.12 per scheduled hour. You are exempt from this policy if you are required by law to have certification/licensure.
Sponsorships
