CAKE DECORATING Cake Decorating Beginning Learn how to ice your cake evenly, as well as make a decorative border, icing flowers, roses and pansies and simple writing techniques. At the end of the class, your cake will look professionally finished. A list of supplies will be given on the first day of class or the instructor will contact you prior to class beginning. ARTS & CRAFTS Watercolor This course is designed to teach the elements and techniques of painting using watercolors. Watercolor painting is a skill that anyone can learn! Basket Making with a Twist of Paper This course is designed to teach basic to advanced level basketry techniques and terms included dyeing and weaving with reed. Weaving with painted paper is also available. First-time students will start with a reed basket and can move on from there. Participants may complete two to three baskets in one session. Please bring to class a basin, spray bottle, small screw driver, measuring tape, pencil, towel and heavy-duty scissors. There will be an extra cost for materials. Public Speaking for the Shy & Terrified It's not what you say, it’s how you say it. This workshop teaches the simple skills necessary to speak with confidence in front of an audience. Focus will be on public speaking and group presentation skills. By the end of the workshop, participants will demonstrate control over their voices and body language and have improved self-confidence in their speaking abilities. Getting Paid with Your Voice Do people compliment you on your voice? Have you ever thought about using it to make money? This class will introduce you to the growing field of voice over, where can you get paid to record everything from audio books and cartoons to documentaries, commercials and more. You’ll learn what the pros look for, how to prepare, and where to find work in your region. You’ll also hear samples from working voice professionals and have the opportunity to read a short professional script under the direction of the instructor. American Sign Language (ASL) - Beginners Students will learn to appreciate and respect ASL as a living, unique and wholly naturally-occurring language, and recognize deaf people as a community with its own set of cultural traditions and values. Students will become familiar with deaf culture, history, folklore, community, and sub-communities such as the Deaf-Blind community in Greensboro. To appreciate and respect deaf culture, students must understand the signed language. Students will learn appropriate cultural behaviors such as directing and maintaining attention, and a way of talking that keeps others informed. This course is appropriate for students who have no or minimal knowledge of sign language to the point where they can function comfortably in a wide variety of situations. Students learn how to use ASL to ask and answer questions, exchange personal information, discuss their jobs, discuss their families, discuss where they are from, and make appointments. CERTIFICATES & LICENSURES Activity Director – Basic State and federal regulations require an activity director working in an assisted living facility or nursing home to complete a state-approved activity training course. Individuals completing this course will receive a certificate of completion and will be in compliance with the requirements. Individuals completing this course will be qualified and can use this course as a step toward national certification for activity coordinators. Textbook is required and must be purchased from the Greensboro campus bookstore prior to class.

Forklift Operator This forklift operator training is taught by an OSHA compliant instructor. It is a comprehensive, hands-on program that covers every aspect of lift-truck training. This 11-hour training is designed for anyone wishing to learn how to operate a forklift. Certificate of Completion is given at the end of the course when a student successfully completes the course. Textbook is required and must be purchased at the Cameron Campus bookstore (Room 172) or the Greensboro Campus bookstore prior to the first day of class. The cost is approximately $8.

General Contractor’s Prep This course makes students aware of the requirements to become a residential general contractor in North Carolina. It includes information on the application process and the state licensing exam, as well as blueprint reading, building terminology, estimating, safety, employment regulations, building and administrative codes, and other topics. Development Career Development Career Development courses provide employability skills training and assistance for adults who are trying to find employment, transitioning back into the workforce, or working to redefine their professional niche in today's global market. The courses are offered in short sessions to equip you with the knowledge, values, and practical skills essential to applying for, keeping, and advancing in your job. FURNITURE REUPHOLSTERY Learn how to reupholster chairs, sofas, and other pieces of fine furniture. Cardiac Monitor Technician This comprehensive 100 hour Cardiac Monitor Technician Certification Course prepares students to function as cardiac monitor technicians in the acute health care setting. This course will include fundamental information on anatomy and physiology of the heart and cardiovascular system, medical disease processes, medical terminology, medical legal ethics, and communication with other health care team members, and intensive ECG monitor strip interpretations. Additionally, students will spend 24 hours participating in the clinical environment working with cardiac monitor technicians. Cardiac monitor technicians, also known as telemetry technicians, monitor multiple patient’s heart activity and interpret heart rhythms from a central monitoring center covering multiple acute care locations. They play a vital role in the lives of cardiac patients and are a critical member of the health care team. Employment of cardiac monitor technicians is projected to increase by 22 percent from 2014 to 2024, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. NA Training Refresher Course The NA Training Refresher Course is offered to enrollees who have (1) been listed or are currently listed on the N.C. Nurse Aide I Registry; (2) have successfully completed a state-approved NA training program since July 2013; (3) hold a state-recognized unencumbered health care credential (EMT, EMT-P, CMA, RN, LPN, etc.) from any state. Military personnel who have had medical/corpsman training may also enroll. This 50-hour course consists of a brief review of the NA I theory curriculum, selected NA I skills, and preparation for the state written and skills exams. Broker Pre-Licensing This is the required course needed to prepare to become a “provisional broker." This course covers basic real estate principles and practices, including real estate law, contracts, brokerage practices, financing, closing, valuation, fair housing, property management, taxation, mathematics, as well as other related topics. To qualify for the in-class final exam, you must have a combined average score of 80% on the seven weekly tests given in class. You may then take the final exam, and if you pass, you are eligible to take the North Carolina Real Estate Commission exam that is required to become a licensed real estate broker. Textbook and materials are required and must be purchased from the campus bookstore where the course will be taught prior to class. Note: Students must read chapters 1, 2 and 3 before attending the first class.

Each year, holders of a North Carolina real estate broker’s license are required to complete a total of eight hours (two four-hour courses) of continuing education in order to maintain their licenses, the mandatory Real Estate Update course, and an elective course. Motorcycle – Basic Rider Course (BRC) This updated basic rider course curriculum is a hybrid course that requires three to four hours of an online course that is prerequisite for the range exercises. Participants will be able to learn safe motorcycle riding skills under the direction of the N.C. Motorcycle Safety Program’s certified instructors. This beginning course is designed for riders with little or no experience. However, you must be able to ride a bicycle, as well as lift and keep the motorcycle upright. Upon successfully completing the riding portion, students will receive a DMV completion card to present to the DMV’s office in order for the student to take a written exam for M endorsement on their license. What you will need for training when riding during the course: • A helmet designed to meet DOT standards and proper eye protection (Face shields are acceptable) • Over-the-ankle footwear • Long-sleeved shirt or jacket • Long non-flare denim pants or materials of equivalent/better durability • Full-fingered gloves with grip material • Ear buds for the e-Course Motorcycles are provided for the Basic Riders Course (BRC) and preregistration is required prior to attending class.
