CAREER SKILLS & TRAINING Aviation & Manufacturing Structures

Aviation & Manufacturing Composites

The Structures Manufacturing program is a 17-week course, divided into 3 main technically certificated areas; ‘Introduction to Structures’(IS), ‘Manufacturing Core Skills ‘(MCS) and ‘Structures Assembly’ (SA). Introduced within the early stages of the course is a ‘Careers Readiness Certificate’ (CRC) and ‘Human Resource Development’ (HRD) components, both very important constituents for future employee opportunities. Graduates of this program will be readily prepared for entry-level employment in the sheet metal structures environment. The course introduces the fundamentals of aviation, supported with practical exposure to the skills necessary to be a successful structures technician.

The Composite Technology Level 1 program is a 3-week course that instructs the layman and skilled professionals the fundamentals of advanced composite fabrication, repairs and processes. Advanced composites are used in many applications and continues to be a primary consideration when replacing other structural components for the reason of its great strength-to weight advantages. Graduates of the program will be readily prepared for entry-level employment in the composite manufacturing environment. The course introduces the many fundamentals of advanced composites and upon completion of the course, the successful graduate will be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of advanced composite structure fabrication, repair methods, materials and application techniques.

Introduction to Structures (IS) This 3-week initial course is a prerequisite to Manufacturing Core Skills (MCS) and provides the inexperienced student with an introduction into the basics of sheet metal and composite structures, in order to assemble and fabricate typical component parts. It involves a brief overview of materials used in aviation and manufacturing to include an insight into safety, common tooling, interpreting engineering drawings, structural fasteners, precision instruments and manufacturing techniques. Manufacturing Core Skills (MCS) After successful completion of the IS course, this online 4-week course is a prerequisite to Structures Assembly and is designed to further enhance student’s knowledge about the aerospace manufacturing industry. It will provide an increased awareness of the product parts produced, as well as the tooling, materials, and procedures necessary to be successful as an employee of an aerospace manufacturing organization. Structures Assembly (SA) This 9-week course provides the student with both online and practical elements specializing in assembling and dismantling structural component parts commonly used in both the aviation and manufacturing industries. The course will enhance previous knowledge and introduce many practical structural metallic fabrication techniques produced in accordance with local technical data. Supported with the knowledge gained from previous courses; “Introduction to Structures” and “Manufacturing Core Skills”, the successful graduate will be more readily prepared to face the many challenges presented in the metallic structural world in both industries.
