About the author I am Ingrid Ou. I was born in Kaohsiung in 1995. This is my fourth year studies in Wenzao. I had never thought I would write a novel by myself. This novel was impressed by my previous experience. I think “family� is the most important part of my life. I am grateful that Dr. Smith gave us such a great challenge. Hope you could enjoy it.

Prologues Jessica had been a playful and irresponsible girl who didn’t get along well with her family. However, after her mother died, she realized how much she had lost. A month after her mother died of cancer, Jessica recalls the time that she’d spent with her mother in flashbacks.

Characters Susan－Mother of the Lee family. She was diagnosed with cancer when she could finally relax at an old age. Jessica－Daughter of the Lee family. She had a bad relationship with the other members of the family. Leo－Brother of Jessica. He takes care of his mother and sister when his father is not at home. Mark－Father of the Lee family. He is usually not at home.

Chapter 1ďź?Miss “Mom, I miss you now.â€? When I come back to this apartment, which you had lived for 20 years, I still think that you are alive. I look around the living room and catch sight of your favorite blue color sofa. I remember you liked to lie on a sofa and waited for your daughter who always comes home late. I walk into the kitchen as if you were preparing dinners for us. I have an eye on the dirty furniture and unable to bear that

there is no one could clean rooms and did all staffs in my family. When I was back to myself, I found that outside was dark.
I walk down to the park trying to refresh my mind. It rained only a short while age. The sun shines on the moist grass with dew, and there is an icy wind blowing. Someone is approaching me now. 7
That is my brother, Leo. “Hey! Jessica! It became colder. Let’s go.” said Leo. I’m glad that I could restore a good relation with Leo after I was under the misapprehension to my Mom and my brother.

Chapter 2－Diversity Oh! Damn. She is calling me again. Why has she repeatedly done the same thing? “Hello? Mom,” I answered the phone and said. “Jessica, don’t you know what time it is now?” said Mom angrily. I am not a teenager anymore. But she always restricts my leisure time and anything what I like. “I just discussed my assignment with my

classmates.” said Jessica impatiently. “And it is only eight o’clock, okay?” “No matter what time it is. You must back home right now.” Mom lost her patience and said.
When I went back home, everything 10
is different. My favorite guitar, my dress for the Christmas party and even the gifts from my boyfriend totally disappeared. I swallowed every word, every cry, ran to my mom’s room. I know what happens now. “You used this extreme method to restrain my behavior. You do really go beyond my accepted boundaries.” I dispute this despicable thing with mom. However, she has the impudence to mad at me. “While you got a boyfriend and didn’t

concentrate in study. It’s that how you repay me for bringing you up?” said mom. I don’t why she knew I got a boyfriend. But it doesn’t make any difference. “I would not break up with my boyfriend for your opposition.” I retorted. We have been in a freezing relation from tonight. My brother, Leo, finally back home now. I don’t really comprehend why my mom could tolerate Leo for going home lately but me. Also, Leo can do anything

he wants. “Well, Leo, you are finally home now.” I tease him and said it. “Shut up. If you don’t say anything, you won’t be thought a dumb person.” said Leo angrily.

Chapter 3－Surprised Today, I finally can see my father, Mark. He is a businessman and a breadwinner of my family. He is rarely get together with us, because he should go abroad to make a profit. I haven’t seen him for eight months. I really miss him who is very fond of me. I sound some voice from the first flood. I guess that he is coming. I go down to the first floor, and dad is standing there. “Dad, I miss you so much.” said I.

“Oh! My lovely, aren’t you getting fatter?” he hugged me and said in jest. “Where are your mother and brother?” said dad. “Do you forget it? Today is Saturday, and they went to church.” I answered. “Oh! Look my pool memory.” “So, dad, how long have you stayed this time?” I asked. “I can’t stay over ten days. I got an important business.” said dad.

Chapter 4－Joy?
Trouble?
After mom and Leo came back home, we discussed to go to the outskirts in order to take a rest. Ultimately, we decided to go soaking hot spring. I am really delighted that it is the first my family could travel together. On the road grass is emerald. I breathe the fresh air. This place is like a paradise. Although I get a bad relationship with my mom, I gradually don’t mind it. “Jessica, you should watch out hot spring. It’s dangerous that you are in the water.”

“Leo catches the ball!” I am excited about playing with Leo. Leo catches the ball and throws it to me. He throws aslant out to the pool. “Leo! You make me very exhausted.” said I delightedly. When I walked down to the thick 17
growth of grass, I found someone was lying here. I approach to it and discover the one who lying on here is my mom. She is in a coma and unconscious. I am extremely nervous and worried. I run out to ask for help. “Dad! Leo! Mom is unconscious and lying on the ground.� said I hurriedly.

Eventually, we are in the hospital now. Mom is in the Intensive Care Unit for a further inspection. We are worried about mom. I see the doctor comes out. Dad, Leo and I urgently come up and ask the doctor. “How is my wife now?” Said dad. “Don’t worry. Mrs. Lee was just awake.” Doctor responded. “She needs more rest” We look at each other without talking. “Hope mom would get well soon” I murmured myself.

Chapter 5－Make up with mom Mom has been in hospital for three weeks. Dad needs to leave home in order to maintain my family. Actually, dad had stayed over ten days because he was worried about mom. “Mom, I am coming.” said I, “Do you want to eat some apples?” “Thank you dear.” said Mom feebly. I pare an apple and send it to mom. This is the first time I could peacefully talk to mom without arguing.

These years we have had a bad relationship with each other. We don’t take opinions of each other, and we couldn’t communicate well. This was last time we were chatting together. At that night, mom was gone peacefully. However, I couldn’t believe she was breathing her last and tried not let me sad. I just saw her was smiling to me. “How can you go without saying anything to me, brother and father?” I murmured sorrowfully.

“mom, I am sorry for not being a good daughter. If there is a hereafter, I wish you don’t be my mother anymore. I want to be your mother and take care of you.” I kissed mom on her forehead and said goodbye.
