V alparaíso Valparaíso Patrimonio Cultural de la Humanidad Los cerros, ascensores, calles angostas, casas coloridas y cientos de miradores hacen de Valparaíso una ciudad diferente. Declarada el 2 de julio del 2003 Patrimonio Cultural de la Humanidad por la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Educación de la Cultura y la Ciencia, UNESCO, Valparaíso logra mantener el equilibrio entre la comodidad de la modernidad y el romanticismo del pasado. Estos factores hacen de Valparaíso una parada obligatoria para los turistas que visitan Chile. Un café o copa de vino en alguno de sus locales, observar el mar desde algunos de sus miradores o viajar por algunos de sus antiquísimos ascensores son algunas de las atracciones que le distinguen. Además, su riqueza histórica se traduce en un gran número de mitos y leyendas que hacen aún más atractiva la ciudad para quienes la visitan. Temporada de Cruceros / Cruises Season Durante esta temporada de cruceros se espera que lleguen cerca de 82 mil turistas a Valparaíso. Ello, en las más de 40 embarcaciones que atracarán en su puerto desde octubre del 2006 hasta abril de este año. During this cruises season it’s expected that nearly 82 thousand tourists arrive at Valparaiso. That, in more than 40 boats that will berth in its port from october 2006 to april of this year. Iglesia La Matriz La iglesia más antigua de Valparaíso. Una pequeña capilla construida en 1559 fue el comienzo de la historia de esta iglesia, la que por embates de piratas y la naturaleza debió ser levantada en sucesivas oportunidades. La actual construcción data de 1842. Valparaiso’s oldest church. A small chapel built in 1559 was the beginning of the history of this church, the one that was raised in successive opportunities by pirates and nature attacks. The present construction dates from 1842. Ascensor Artillería Construido en 1912, el ascensor Artillería es uno de los de mayor presencia urbana en Valparaíso. Comunica la Plaza Aduana con el Paseo 21 de Mayo, mirador del cual se obtiene una vista privilegiada de la ciudad y de la costa. Built in 1912, the Artillería Elevador has one of the greatest urban presence in Valparaíso. It communicates the Aduana Square with the May 21 Avenue, viewpoint from which you will have a privileged view of the city and the coast. Cerro Bellavista Vista panorámica que permite apreciar las casas típica de los cerros porteños. En el cerro Bellavista también se encuentra el Museo a Cielo Abierto, muestra artística que incluye 20 murales y transforma el paisaje en un espacio para el arte y la cultura. Panoramic view that allows you to appreciate the typical hill houses of the port. In the Bellavista hill you can also find the “Open sky Museum”, artistic exhibition that includes 20 murals and transforms the landscape into an artistic and cultural space. Plaza Sotomayor Ubicada en el centro de la actividad portuaria, la Plaza Sotomayor es un homenaje a los Héroes del Combate Naval de Iquique, ocurrido el 21 de Mayo de 1879. En el, se enfrentaron peruanos y chilenos, sorprendiendo el coraje y patriotismo de estos últimos. Por ello, su monumento alza las principales figuras del Combate y contiene una Cripta con sus restos. Located in the centre of the harbour activity, the Sotomayor Square is a tribute to the Heroes of Iquique´s Naval Battle, which happened in May 21 of 1879. In it, peruvians and chileans confronted, surprising the courage and patriotism of this last ones. Because of that, its monument raises the main figures of the Battle and has a Crypt with its rests.

It has an important national and european art gallery. Museo Palacio Rioja Construido a principios del siglo XX, destaca por su estilo neoclásico francés. En su interior se entremezclan el barroco, rococó, imperio y chesterfield europeos. Build at the beginning of the XX century, it glows by it’s french neoclassic style. In its interior the european baroque, rococo, empire and chesterfield mingle. Teatro Municipal Inaugurado en 1930, forma parte de la historia cultural y artística de la ciudad. Allí se desarrollan variadas actividades culturales como: el Festival Internacional de Cine y el Concurso de Ejecución Musical “Dr. Luis Sigall”. Museo Arqueológico Francisco Fonck Centro de la cultura Rapa Nui y de otras civilizaciones chilenas, posee una completa colección de Isla de Pascua y de Historia Natural. Cuando delegaciones de todo el mundo se reúnen para celebrar la 7ª Cumbre Mundial del Tango. La música y los colores de este baile, que nació a finales del siglo XIX a las orillas del Río de la Plata, entre Argentina y Uruguay, se unen bajo el lema: “Desde Valparaíso el Tango convoca ciudades”. La mezcla de expresiones tradicionales, experimentales y vanguardistas marca la presencia de este arte urbano en la zona, el que además va acompañado de presentaciones en poesía, cine y pintura. The passion seizes Valparaiso Tangos sensuality, beauty and grip flood hills and streets of Valparaiso from january18th to the 27th. When worldwide delegations meet to celebrate the 7th World-wide Tango Summit. The music and the colors of this dance, born at the end of the XIX century in the banks of Río de la Plata, between Argentina and Uruguay, converge under the motto: “Tango summons cities from Valparaiso”. The mixture of traditional, experimental and avant-garde expressions mark the presence of this urban art in the zone, that also goes accompanied with poetry, cinema and painting presentations. Festival de Viña del Mar: Cerca de un millón de personas visitan la Región Durante la semana del Festival Internacional de la Canción, los ojos del mundo y de Chile están puestos en Viña del Mar. The production of the most important Hispanic speech musical festival locates this city in the tourist epicentre of the country.
