VENUES
Tops Tips for your choosing your wedding Venue... When choosing your dream wedding venue there are many things you need to think about. Take a look through our checklist with the top things you need to consider when making your decision.
1. Budget
One of the first things you need to do is decide on your budget for the venue and how much extra you may need for decorations.
2. Where?
Think about the type of setting you would like for your big day - this gives you a great starting point for booking visits.
3. License to Marry
If you’re planning a civil ceremony then check whether the venue holds the appropriate license.
4. Capacity
Who’s on the guest list? It’s important to view venues that can accommodate everyone, whether that’s for the reception or the ceremony.
5. Catering Options
If you’re looking at independent caterers then you need to check this with your prospective venue - they may only allow in-house catering at their events.
6. Photo opportunities
When visiting the venue take note of whether there’s plenty of natural light for beautiful photographs, especially for outdoor locations.
7. Reputation
Check out reviews from other brides who have used the same venue for their wedding.

A Country Summer Wedding

The Day! After meeting at 14, Matt and Izzy tied the knot 15 years later at the beautiful Great Tythe Barn in Tetbury. “The venue was perfect - the cottages and manor house on site meant that we could have a pre-wedding party the night before, and everyone had room to stay over after the big day,” says the bride. After walking down the aisle to a live choir and reading personalised vows, the newlyweds enjoyed a ‘posh picnic’ wedding breakfast courtesy of caterers Fine Dine With Us, which went down a treat with guests. “People still tell how much they love it today!” says Matt. For favours, each guest received a charity bird pin from Cancer Research in honour of the bride’s late father, and the tables were decorated with flowers grown in the mother of the bride’s back garden. “Even though the weather was terrible, I felt like we were laughing all day!” says Izzy. WEDDING PLANNERS What to look for in a Wedding Planner... The most important aspect to look for in a wedding planner is whether you get on. This is essential as you want to enjoy the process of planning your wedding together. If your personalities clash then it simply won’t work. Always hire from a well-known and established company, as you want a professional wedding planner who will take on a business perspective rather than seeing the planning process as just a hobby. Expert planners like Julia Siburn have been planning events for decades, and will know all the best contacts.

How To Get The Most From Your Suppliers
Choosing your wedding suppliers wisely can have a big effect on your wedding planning - after all, good communication with great vendors can save you a lot of stress in the lead up! Here’s how to make sure the suppliers you’re picking are the best match for you, and how to get the best of them during the planning process…
Pick According to Your Style & Budget When picking your suppliers, it’s important to balance getting the right price with the right style. There’s no point approaching vendors who may create dream designs, but who are massively out of budget, but equally you don’t want to base everything on budget in case you end up compromising your entire vision.
Make Sure You Mesh Once you have your shortlist, have a chat with your prospective suppliers, either in person 20
or over Skype, to see how they are in person. Emails can only tell you so much! Having suppliers who you get on with and who have similar communication styles to you can help massively when it comes to things running smoothly both on the day and in the lead up.
Send Photos Having a visual reference for your wedding ideas is always useful for wedding suppliers even if it’s to let you know that your ideas are too ambitious for the budget! Get on Pinterest
www. GUIDESFORBRIDES .co.uk
and create boards to show to your suppliers so you know you’re both on the same page.
Don’t Swamp Them Your wedding may be the most important thing in the world to you, but you have to bear in mind that your suppliers will be juggling lots of weddings at the same time, especially during the summer. Of course it’s normal to have lots of questions, but try to save them up for one email or meeting, rather than constantly bombarding your suppliers.
Remember That They’re People Too! This is an important one. Although it should be common sense, sometimes brides forget that wedding businesses are run by actual people who have to make a living! Be polite
THE
and friendly in your communications, and while you can be honest if things aren’t meeting your expectations, there’s no need for accusatory or intimidating behaviour.
Trust Them! Your wedding suppliers are professionals, so it’s important that you trust them and try not to micro manage them. They’re there to help take the stress off you and help you have the day of your dreams, but if you interfere with the way that they work, it’s only going to cause tension between the two of you. It’s perfectly okay to question or to ask for clarification if you don’t understand something, but trusting your suppliers will make the process a lot less stressful.

CELEBRANTS What is a Celebrant Ceremony? Celebrant-led weddings have risen in popularity in the UK, with over 1,000 in England and Wales each year. Many couples are now considering these as an alternative to a civil ceremony. But what is a celebrant ceremony? It is a non-religious wedding ceremony, which offers more freedom and choice than a civil ceremony. You can exchange vows where you want, when you want and how you want! Unlike in Scotland and Northern Ireland, celebrant weddings are not currently recognised by law in England and Wales, so couples often go to the registry office to take care of the legal formalities in the days before or after their celebrant wedding. Celebrants are trained in ceremony creation so have knowledge of ceremony structure, and experience with different ceremony elements. They can plan every aspect of your ceremony, wherever it might be, and personalise it around you.
Beautiful & Bespoke Ceremonies Your personalised, fully choreographed service will be central to your wedding day, bring you and your guests total joy, and tell your love story. Create this meaningful and memorable ceremony with me; include your beliefs and any symbolic elements you wish for. Handfasting | Broom jumping | Wine Blending | Ring Warming Personalised Vows | Loving Cup| Bespoke Poetry & Readings ‌ ceremonies as unique as you are! 07722193703 kellycelebrant.com ana@kellycelebrant.com

CATERING Wedding menu ideas for every season... Spring For a light, fresh Spring wedding menu, starters could include zingy salads with edible flowers, light smoked salmon or Spring vegetable soup, while lamb and chicken make perfect light roasts for mains. Embrace citrus flavours such as lemon drizzle cake or key lime pie.
Summer Mezze sharing boards, barbecues and picnics are ideal for taking advantage of Summer wedding weather. For a more formal meal, why not try harissa lamb or saffron chicken with tabbouleh, or if you prefer classic British food, a light herby chicken with an English garden salad? For dessert, fresh strawberries and cream, Eton mess or a selection of fresh sorbets. LGBTQ+ FRIENDLY
Rock ‘n’ Roll Bespoke Wedding Caterers
Autumn Embrace the cooler weather with roasted vegetables, warming soups and spicy flavours. An Autumnal soup or baked camembert always works well for starters, and hearty mains like pies with mash, roast pheasant or pumpkin risotto will go down a storm. For pudding why not try a selection of fruit pies or crumbles, or a hot chocolate brownie?

Christmas classics like roast turkey, pigs in blankets and cheese boards are surefire hits for December weddings, or opt for slow-cooked steaks or rich venison. PHOTOGRAPHY Top Photography Styles If you are not familiar with wedding photography, the different terminology can be confusing! Here we have summed up the top styles so you can choose the right photographer for you: Traditional Photography Traditional wedding photography is the classic posed look, such as conventional group shots of the couple and the wedding party. This involves lots of direction from the photographer, but it also means taking a chunk of time out of your special day. But, while your photos might be a bit formulaic, they will be beautifully lit and shot and definitely include all your loved ones! Documentary Photography Documentary photography is also known as photojournalistic or reportage photography. Your photographer mingles with you and your guests to capture candid and spontaneous shots. This style is about authentic reactions and emotions so your photos reflect the real wedding story. While this means you can relax more as the photographer, you may not get any posed group photos unless you ask for them, so bear that in mind! Contemporary Photography Contemporary photography is more like fashion or editorial photography combined with a documentary style. So, it is perfect if you want some fashionable couple photos and then an artistic approach to other shots. But it is important that you find a photographer with the same creative vision as you as a couple, whether that’s street style, portraits, conceptual or nature-focused.

A Lilac Late-Summer Wedding

www. GUIDESFORBRIDES .co.uk
The Day! Tori and Jake were together for 5 years before they tied the knot at All Saints Church in Durrington. After the ceremony, the couple celebrated at Bishopstrow Hotel and Spa. The couple had chosen this venue due to the beautiful setting and excellent reviews. This lilac themed wedding was beautifully planned with the perfect colour scheme for a latesummer wedding! The bride wore a stunning lace dress, designed by Rebecca Ingram while the five bridesmaids wore floor length lilac chiffon dresses which complimented the theme perfectly. The groom and his groomsmen wore matching navy check suits. Seeing his bride arrive at the ceremony was Jake’s favourite moment of the day. Hearing the speeches was Tori’s favourite part, which was followed by an incredible meal consisting of lemon and thyme roasted chicken terrine, butter roasted beef and warm bakewell tart. Transport
Think out of the box with these transport ideas. Boats Arrive at your waterside wedding in style! The idea of arriving by boat may seem either risky or too flashy but there is a lovely medium. Steamer and canal boats, for example, are a quaint, rustic way to travel to and from your wedding. While perhaps a little slow, this gives you time to relax and enjoy the journey, an ideal tonic for any pre-wedding nerves! Motorbikes and Scooters Arriving at your wedding on a motorbike, with a leather jacket over your suit, is perfect for a bike riding groom. Brides can also get in on the action by going for a vintage sidecar or a big trike for the ultimate farewell! Or you could go retro for your getaway and have a Vespa, definitely an unusual but highly romantic mode of transport. These options are probably better for brides with shorter dresses and hairdos that won’t get crushed by helmets! VW Campervans If you want vintage and nostalgia but nothing too fancy, then definitely look into a VW Campervan! Laidback couples or those planning a festival style wedding will love the idea of arriving at their wedding in one of these 32

venue or are having a British theme. This iconic vehicle will look stunning in your wedding pictures and is definitely an unusual option! Double-decker buses are also practical, as well as aesthetically pleasing. It’s a great idea if you need to transport all your guests from your ceremony to your reception.
cool vans. Often in a multitude of colours and beautifully decorated, this mode of transport will look amazing in your wedding pictures! Double-Decker Buses A vintage red bus makes a great choice if you’ve found the perfect London wedding THE
Pickup Trucks If you like classic American cars, but want something a bit more unusual, why not choose a pickup? These are perfect for country, rustic weddings. Decorate your truck with flowers, garlands and bunting and you’ve got a fun, romantic mode of wedding transport!

Wedding dress shopping dos and don’ts Don’t...
Do ...your research!
...wear fake tan. Nobody wants to buy a wedding dress covered in streaky tan marks. If you want to tan, then opt for a formula you know won’t rub off to avoid staining the dresses.
Knowing some of the lingo beforehand can really help your bridal consultant narrow down what you’re looking for.
...bring too many people.
You’ll be changing into lots of different dresses, often with the help of a bridal consultant, so be aware of this when you’re choosing your lingerie for the day!
This will make the appointment more inconvenient for your bridal consultant, but also you will be overwhelmed with different opinions.
...bring people you trust.
...try on anything you can’t afford. Trying on a style you can’t afford may mean you end up spending more than intended and having to cut back elsewhere.
...go hungry. Shopping when hungry is unwise at the best of times, but especially so when you’re wedding dress shopping. 36
...wear the right underwear.
You need people with you who will be honest with you but also honour your feelings and realise that your opinion is the most important.
...keep an open mind. We recommend that you try a variety of shapes, styles and fabrics. Don’t judge a wedding dress on the hanger - they often look much better on!

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR
You’ll be wearing your wedding ring for the rest of your life, so it’s key to choose one that you love! Here is a quick guide on how to choose your perfect wedding rings... Where to Begin?
Finding the Right Style
Start by working out some basic preferences, such as the colour of the metal, and whether you want a simple or embellished band.
If you plan on always wearing your engagement and wedding ring side by side, consider how they fit together. You're going to wear this ring every day, so choose something that seamlessly becomes a part of your life. For example, if you regularly play sports or an instrument, a slimmer ring with rounded edges may make the most sense.
Start the Search! Now you have a basic idea, start trying rings on! Plan to start shopping around 6 months before your wedding as you'll need time to browse, research prices and revisit rings. Also, some wedding rings need to be ordered or made bespoke and extras, like engraving, can take up to one month.
No Need to Match Don't worry if you and your partner have different tastes – there's no rule that says you have to choose the same metal or even style! Finding something you personally love is key.
Finding the Right Fit Most people rarely take off their wedding bands, but your fingers swell and contract from heat, cold or weight gain. To find the right size that can deal with these changes, schedule your final ring fitting when you're calm and your body temperature is normal. Wear it around the store for a few minutes and try writing and texting as a comfort test.
Be 100% Comfortable Wedding rings are extremely personal, so be sure to love what you buy! If you have any doubt, consider shopping around before making a final decision.

SCHEDULING YOUR
HAIR & BEAUTY
E
very bride hopes to have her hair and make-up looking fabulous on their big day. However, it can be a challenge to know when to begin your preparations on your wedding day morning. This is why it’s important to have trial runs of your hair and beauty before the main event, that way you can properly schedule your wedding morning preparations without feeling rushed. For example, you can anticipate bridal hair and makeup will take around 1.5 to 2 hours in total, while the rest of the bridal party will be a little less. This timing will really depend on the style you’re going for, and how many people are on the hair and makeup team.
The Big Day Preparation: • Hair - for example, an intricate updo will need more time! • Make-up - time all depends on your look such as full glam or more natural. • Dressing - remember to factor in boudoir and dressing shots with your photographer Jewellery, perfume and final touches - don’t forget to factor in minor touches • Photographs - this timing depends on how many you are expecting your photographer to take. Remember to factor in photographs by your bridal party and parents!

METAL
LIC
Adding a bit of metallic sparkle to your wedding cake has become popular in recent years, with rose gold in particular standing out. However, this year you are more likely to see a continuation of gold, silver and copper which can be used throughout wedding decor, including the cake!
FLOR AL Flowers may seem an obvious cake decoration but not with these techniques! Pressing and crystallising edible flowers, cascading flowers and fresh greenery turn this common accent into a work of art, transforming your wedding cake into a blooming masterpiece!
HAN D -
D PAINTE
Abstract painted details are a gorgeous way to add a subtle touch of colour to a traditional white wedding cake. Whether you choose soft brushstrokes, delicate florals or misty swirling patterns, the effect is like a beautiful impressionist painting! Choose to keep the whimsical, romantic look by choosing soft, pastel colours like blush pink or peach or you could create a bold, modern look by choosing deep reds, purple, or even black tones.
ALTERNAT Not a fan of cake at all? Fear not! There are plenty of other options for your dessert table. Alternative wedding cakes are becoming increasingly popular and act as an extra form of decoration. Think, pancake stacks, doughnut towers, cheese wheel cakes, macaroon towers or cake pops ...the list goes on! This option creates more of a wow factor as well as giving you the freedom to serve something you really love. 44

TOP TIPS FOR WEDDING FAIRS Visiting a wedding fair soon? Here’s how to make the most of it…
1
Wear comfy shoes! Wedding fairs can be huge, especially the national shows, so it’s a long day on your feet. Wear comfortable flats that you know won’t give you blisters. If you want to try on wedding dresses, you can always bring a pair of heels in your bag.
2
Speaking of bags, be sure to bring a large bag with a comfortable strap, as you’ll be getting lots of magazines, samples and leaflets on the day to carry around with you.
3
all the bridesmaids. The maid of honour and the mother of the bride are perfect wedding fair companions, and we also recommend bringing the groom along. That way you can make any decisions together.
4 5
Plan ahead. Take a look at who’s going to be attending the fair and make a note of which suppliers you want to visit, so you can plan a strategy.
Make sure your ducks are in a row financially. Many wedding fair suppliers will have great offers and discounts available to attendees, but you may have to be prepared to put down a deposit on the day.
Make sure you bring the right people with you. Wedding fairs make for the perfect girly day out, but if you have a large bridal party, you may not want to bring www. GUIDESFORBRIDES .co.uk 50
