LETTER from the Chair Recreation provides immeasurable value to the physical and mental well-being of individuals and families. PARC supports indoor and outdoor recreation opportunities and will continue to expand our programs to bring the best possible offerings to meet the needs of the community. Removing barriers to recreation is a high priority for the commission and we are committed to continuing to deliver cost-effective programs and services. The Leisure Economic Access Policy (LEAP) assists individuals and families with low incomes to access recreation programs offered by PARC. To qualify, your combined gross household income must be at or below the Statistics Canada’s Low Income Thresholds for 2014. Simply stop by the PARC office to pick up your 2016 LEAP application today. To make it easier for participants to find, learn about, and register for PARC programs, we are launching a new online registration platform later this year. This website will include local, certified contractors who partner with PARC and will provide the convenience of online registration to the user. Your PARC commissioners and team of staff are dedicated to meeting the recreational needs and supporting the wellbeing of the community. Thank you for your support and participation in active living.

Do you want to “reprogram your brain” to feel happier and calmer? Do you ever get stuck in a mood, a rut or incessant negative thoughts? Do emotions like anger or sadness sometimes overwhelm you? Do you feel you need to find more balance in your work or personal life? The world of Positive Psychology introduces simple, effective and practical tools to help you look at the world in ways that help you feel happy, optimistic and in control of your life. This is not about faith, affirmations or getting a personality transplant. Instead, it’s about really looking inside and gently challenging the way you see your life . . . prepare to be surprised! Presented in a lively, frank, hands-on and often humorous way, this workshop is about recognising unconscious patterns—and how we all have the potential to be the architects of our own happiness. There is no obligation to share anything personal nor is this a group therapy session. In fact, the mood of the workshop will be upbeat, inspiring and will offer you an “aha!” moment or two! It is a proven fact that exercising in water is a great way to increase the resistance on your body as you move, yet it’s easy on the joints since the bounce takes a lot of the weight. There is also an increase in the calories burned because your body is losing heat while in the water. Add these factors onto a great workout directed by one of our certified instructors and you will feel the difference right away. Rainbow Road Indoor Pool offers a selection of aquafit classes to suit everyone’s needs.

Energizer

8:00 – 9:00am on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays This fun and upbeat class will challenge you to work hard in shallow or deep water. The instructor will guide you through a number of exercises which will help with your strength, flexibility and fitness.

Aqualite

9:30-10:30am on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays Just like the name says……. gentle, low- intensity exercise. Great if you are just starting out, have joint problems, or are recovering from an injury.

Nooners

1:00 – 2:00pm on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays Less intense than the morning Energizer session, this class is specifically for those looking for more strength and stretching. An instructor leads the group through a number of exercises designed to get your blood flowing and your muscles moving.

Swimming Lessons The Rainbow Road pool offers swimming lessons for all ages and stages. Our Preschool program starts at age 3 and focuses mainly on making the swimmer water safe. Can they jump into the pool and get themselves back to the edge safely? Once that is accomplished then we focus on proper strokes and water skills. The Red Cross Swim Kids Program is directed towards swimmers 6 years and older. This program has the same structure as our Preschool Program but is better suited for an older swimmer. We also have classes for adults who would like to improve their strokes so they can enjoy the water more and we have classes specifically aimed at those folks who never learned to swim as a child.

If you are thinking of

SELLING YOUR HOME

I am here to help you prepare for, and complete the sale! I encourage my clients to start their search online, whether buying or selling,

to help them get a feel for the market. I can connect you to everything available for sale on the gulf islands or filter that information if you prefer. It is important to remember that there is a human element that is very important to buying and selling real estate. A qualified agent will deliver invaluable professional advice, resources, up-to date market information and, if you are selling bring you, or be a conduit to bringing you, a qualified buyer. For sellers my aim is to price the home correctly so that their goals are met. You can significantly influence the selling price of your house by preparing it and your property before putting it on the market. If you are considering buying or selling call me.

WHAT DO PAUL’S CLIENTS SAY? Mark Fedikow & Ruth Bezys say CALL PAUL!

Susannah Devitt says CALL PAUL! I personally had a lot of dealings with Paul in the past few months of this year. One was a personal move where our landlord sold their place; the other was an estate property. Paul earned my trust through his thoughtful ways, professional knowledge, creative thinking and writing and his compassionate heart. He made both transactions stress-free which I am very thankful for as dealing with one property can be draining enough never mind two! Paul kept me informed at all times and honoured my feelings during these times. I was impressed with his interaction and respectful ways he spoke of the other realtors on island. This is a credit to him. I wish Paul continue success and would not hesitate to refer him in the future.

We made a decision to purchase a home on Salt Spring Island and started our search by arranging to meet with Paul Zolob of Royal LePage who would become our agent. This was our best and smartest move! Paul exceeded our expectations with his level of service. He was at available at all times, often putting aside personal commitments to answer all of our questions, to drive us to every conceivable location to review a property and all the while keeping in mind the kind of home we required. Paul’s friendly demeanor, his attention to detail, patience and willingness to go the extra mile to make us feel like a Salt Spring Island family made our house hunting experience a genuine pleasure. Today Paul is no longer “just” a realtor to us, but a good friend! In our opinion if you are interested in topnotch service from a knowledgeable realtor who will ensure you find that special home then Paul Zolob of Royal LePage would be your best and wisest choice.

Michelle Boizard says CALL PAUL!

- MARK FEDIKOW & RUTH BEZYS

My husband and I really enjoyed working with Paul. He understood right away what we were looking for in a home and made it happen in a short, stress-free time period. His patience and understanding along with his knowledge of Salt Spring Island paired with his experience of house building and renovations, makes him the best realtor to deal with. HIGHLY recommend!

Grant Grayson & Elena Dunn say CALL PAUL! We contacted Paul because of his extensive knowledge of the island and its communities and his expertise in evaluating a home’s ‘bones’. He didn’t disappoint. Paul took the time to show us properties at both ends of our price range and in all the communities on the island so we could evaluate for ourselves, which were most desirable within our price range. Once the decision was made, Paul helped us understand the history and construction of the home we chose, and then made the buying process seamless and hassle-free. We would definitely recommend Paul to any prospective buyer or seller.

MICHELLE BOIZARD

Walter & Donna Mort say CALL PAUL! “We enjoyed working with Paul as he was respectful of our feelings during this time as this was our final move. He was eager, efficient and accommodating. He was there on closing day to lend a hand. We appreciated his service very much.
