SLOW CITY [Topography + Mind and Body Interaction] Kartal, Istanbul Fall 2017 [Academic]

The individual project encompasses development of a brief for a social urban/rural program that relate to more than 100pax. Followed by the design of a masterplan and conceptual design of the required buildings in relationship with context as well as non-physical counterparts. The projects will be mostly composed of diagrams, demos, mock-ups and models as well as orthographic and perspective representations. Rethinking the urban and rural fabric understanding concepts like “networks”, mechanic assemblages”, milieu and atmospheres. Defining social flow and re-Defining interrelationships imagining for the physical make-up of the fast contemporary exchange environments.

The topic of the project was creating an interactive relation between ‘urban’ and ‘rural’. The notions of ‘desolation’, ‘alianation’, ‘uniformity’ and ‘monotony’ were the dominant character of the site. Therefore, historical characteristic of Istanbul shows that Heybeliada, Validebağ and Yakacık (the site) were place that people want to go for a healthy life. The project aims to bring that historical memory back. Therefore, the site has a great potential and qualities in the case of topography and location. The mind and body interaction center come to light by useing that historical memory and topographical qualities.

SPACE CRAFT [Space Creation] Magic-eye, Bad Romance Fall 2017 [Academic]

The joint design problem targets at comprehending ‘the building’ as an architectural artifact formed by social, economical and cultural context. The aim of the studio is to develop an understanding of space, scale, tensions and relations between “bodily” experience and the “mechanical space” of the community. An old machine is going to be chosen by the young architecture candidate as a space for the development of the programme / scenario for an alien / bug in a chosen life conditions(earth, ocean, outer space, etc).An implementation of a small scale minimal programme in the chosen space with pre-determined life conditions is going to be experienced.

Bad Romance the life of ‘Reservoir’

SPACE CRAFT

In Cern, the Big Bang theory test were performed to understand the evolution of the world. The expectationwas to see a small replica of the world. However, it was not like that. The universe that called as ‘Bad Romance’ come to light.

[13]

Long ago, there was a universe called as ‘Bad Romance’ that come into existence as two part. ‘Single-eye’ and ‘Magic-eye’ ate the parts of it but there is not a physical connection between them. Reservoirs, which is the creature that has no ability to move, live in the universe. In the Bad Romance, there is only a place that one creature can live in and there is no place for another one. So that when one Reservoir die, another one replace it. The life period of a reservoir is not certain because only they die after they see all universe with their eyes. Reservoir has its own universe full of beautiful, beautiful, dramatic, gloominess and blur spaces. By watching the environment, Reservoir can feed itself although it has no ability of mobility. Even if the bad romance has limitation of frontier, and feels the universe as infinitive. Reservoir actually live in the single-eye part that is surrounded by a moveable platform with the numbers of lenses. These lenses have different color and shape. Therefore the lenses take reflection of the magic-eye city, that has different life style that Reservoir want to see and it is like a huge screen, from different perspective and bring them to the Reservoir. The reflection can be in different color, upsite-down, in an elliptic or a lank form. The reflection are not only a visual material but also it is showing the life and Reservoir feel feels like it is living in there. It is like Reservoir surrounded by lifeless life. The universe has the power of imagination and lenses serve them to Reservoir as an artifical life.

People afraid to touch each other both physically and psychologically. There is transparent frontiers between them. To break the frontiers, they need to do nothing and just watch each other. Since, the furniture will be made by chocolate or else, it will be remained ‘consumption’. In this case, borders between people and uncomfortable feelings will be consumed by reducing the lines. The interactive between humanbeings-humanbeings and humanbeings-street furniture will be produced. The installation will be actively used and be a part of the process design.

FOLDABLE PAVILLION [Geometry + Structural Morphology] Kayseri, Turkey Fall 2017 [Non-academic]

To explore the conceptual and practical appproaches of deployable structures by modeling a lightweight-structure at the 1:1 scale were the main subject. Furthermore, through these morphological studies, the creation of habitable spaces and architectural components were the core elements of the exploration. Exploring this new design method by using parametric design and fabrication give the opportunity for the real life application. Physical and digital models were used in studying and understanding the complexity of these systems.

The theme of the summer school has emerged with the attractiveness of the phenomenological investigation of ‘being concrete’. With the process-based and open-ended existential parameters spreading over time, we have been faced with the formation of morphogenetic processes. TRANSPARENT FRONTIERS [Designer Identity + Participatory Design] Kayseri, Turkey Fall 2018 [Non-academic]

The aim was to define the frontiers between the past and present. The research area is Germir, Kayseri. When the historical features are considered, it is clear to see that people that has different race, ethnic lived together in Germir. The language, life style, traditions were different but they had a common understanding. There was a frontier between them but it is not a solid one. It was transparent. To express this transparency and life style, the historical back ground and the stories of them were checked. The instillation (the final work) was a tool to express that idea. DYNAMIC TOUCH [Kinetic Structure] Kayseri, Turkey Fall 2016 [Academic]

It is a weekend house for a photographer in Tavlusun neighbourhood (Kayseri). Tavlusun neighbourhood is far from the noise and congestion of city. It is a good place for people to take a break from city life. It has three part as sleeping and living space and a photograph washing space. We use biomimesis as concept. I choose worm and I use movement of worm and put it on the facade as moveable triangular panels. They are actually sunshades but when sun started to disturb the photographer, the panels will automatically close. Also users of it can open or close it with a remote control.

TRANSCREATION OF MARS

Mountains and valleys that are located on the ‘Mars’ surface are emphasized. In every research, the solids and voids spatial qualities [the mountains and valleys are abstracted as solids and voids] of them come to light. Accordingly, datas give a chance to designer to see the possibilities of spatial organizations. The analysis feed the concept of the building and the rough form of it. In that case, the feeling of being on Mars will be experienced [64] on the Earth.

TRANSCREATION OF MARS

[Space-Time-Human Parallax + Interfered Topography]

Mars has the ‘space’ and ‘time’ dimensions. By exploring planet Mars, human-beings interfere to the spatial world (example of Mars). Therefore, spaces that are affected by human-beings started to have more ‘hard-edges’ and clear cuts. The softness give its place to the hard-edges. Thereby, the pure topography of the Mars surface becomes an interfered topography affected by human-being existence.

A-VOID [Topography: as a Living Organism +Parametircism of Urban Theory] Kültepe, Kayseri, Turkey Fall 2018 [Academic]

The theme of this semester is new architectural design in historic context. The analyses include a reading, understanding and evaluation of the historic and cultural context at the given site. Design proposals will be based on the parameters defined by the analyses and respect the existing historic, social and cultural fabric, which will be a palimpsest of different layers. Research Center/Institute is the general definition of the term project. The concept and basis of the ‘research’, which could be social and natural sciences or humanities, may be selected by the students based on their environmental analyses.

[Topography: as a Living Organism +Parametircism of Urban Theory]

A-VOID

Is time real?, what makes time tangible and observable in the earth?, or else, time is just a human based product?

[73]

In this continuity, ‘before’ and ‘after’ have a spatial syntax. Time is not the number that one counts, but counted number. According to Aristothales, “moment” links ‘past’ and ‘future’. So, past is the end of the time and future is the beginning of the time. Time is a border that connects them. A universe cannot be imagined without existence of time and space. Time, actually, cannot be make sense without human conscious that experiences it. According to Augustinus, time/moment can barely be measured when it flows. So, one can just be measured ‘present’ moment, but past and future cannot. Since, non-existing things cannot be measured. When ‘moment’ flows, past and future became evident. For Heidegger, time make sense as existing temporality and existence of Dasein’s. All actions can be experienced with time. One never can imagine a earth without time and space.

A-VOID

[Topography: as a Living Organism +Parametircism of Urban Theory]

Topography behaves like a living organism and is accumulated and subtracted. Therefore, there will be permanent and temporary structures. Permanent structures will be entrance with lounge and meeting room, laboratory, offices, library, accommodation units and test room (maybe view tower) and pathway. Temporary structures will be exhibition spaces, workshop, seminar room, view tower. So, the construction process of the research center (partially) will be observed by both visitors and researchers. [75]

Fall 2018 / KĂźltepe, Kayseri, Turkey]

A-VOID

The process is the matter in the project. The research center will be open with permanent structures. The temporary ones will be constructed while visitors experience and observe the collective memories of the past. Thus, there will be able to create the connection between the the past and the possible future by means of pathway that will create a concrete border on the intuitional (sezgisel) border. [76]

After noticing several aspects of understand the human being, people’s behaviors, their considerations, and thehidden message(s) behind them are illustrated by using subjective images. Our feelings can be those of happiness, faithfulness, comfort, pride, anger, disappointment, depression, etc. How does one behave when s/he is alone? All subconscious and paraconscious emotions eventually come to light. When you are alone is when you become your true self, and everything which you do is a reflection of the real you and of what is inside you.
