JUDD
A HIGH RISE Fall 2018 This Museum Annex to the Judd Foundation and Residential tower in SOHO is faithful to artist Donald Judd’s philosophy and aesthetic beliefs. Set just across the street from the Ironcast-facade foundation, the annex mimics the floor level heights of the foundation in order to create a dialogue between the two buildings through spatial alignment perceivable at street level, while consistent with Judd’s interest with the act of mirroring and reflection. The motifs on the castiron facade are also mirrored intellectually, converting classical pilasters into decorative Miesian channels and extrusions. The gallery levels celebrate Judd’s love of expressing the process of building with exposed weld marks, fireproofing and ductwork. But as one progresses upwards through the galleries, the finishes get finer and more polished, removing the visitor from the context and focusing their senses on the artwork.

TEATRUL VIATA A National Theater Spring 2018 This National Theater of Romania, Sibiu is designed to be the home stage of the worlds current third largest international theater festival. It situates in the context of a medieval city, and borrows the material palette from its neighboring historical landmarks. Its three theaters reflect on the turbulent history of the region from Saxon occupation to modern-day independence.

MATTER MATTERS
A Freshwater Education Center In Collaboration with Adam Kor Fall 2017 This project considers the implications of material and time in architecture. Leveraging the gallery’s proximity to the river edge, concrete is selected as the choice of material to register the passage of time. Water brings concrete to life, then immortalizes its form when it leaves the cast. Although it is conventionally considered as mass, and connotes heaviness, and has a very corporal presence, it always starts off in fluid form. How can the process of casting express concrete’s fluid nature? A series of cast experiments were executed to explore the endless possibilities of concrete.

ENVIRONMENTAL CHARTER SCHOOL A Freshwater Education Center Spring 2017 This middle school in aims to increase the interaction of students within their grade by organizing the classrooms into three sets of three classrooms, each set having access to a central meeting room and form larger spaces or connect to other classrooms. The staggered stacking of classrooms allows for optimal sunlight exposure, as well as dynamic views from one level to the next. The several intelligent energy efficient systems of the building are taught as part of the school curriculum, complete with interactive dashboards and operable windows and louvers.

Complimenting this sense of curiosity with a greater understanding of its origins, a camera obscura allows for the entrance of the universe through a projection onto the floor, an opportunity to use the space as a dynamic learning environment. Bringing the wonders of the universe into the confines of a “classroom”, where students can feel their presence amongst the stars.

Enhancing a sense of continuity, and constant awareness of being in a vessel. A single plane swoops from the entrance of the universe to its exit. The plane forms the space, acting as a floor system, an enclosure system and a structural system.

SACO BATHS A Bath House Spring 2016 Bath houses are extremely dynamic environments in terms of thermal experiences, and what makes it an even more significant activity is the fact that it is the site of the most intimate of architectural experiences. This is because people are at their most vulnerable, without any protection of clothing, and are coming into immediate tactile contact with architecture in a way that they would never in most situations. In addition to purification, bathing is also a recreational activity in which people partake to relax themselves, as it is where humans derive the most physical pleasure by thermal means. This project examines these nuances by the design of a bath house in Saco Lake, New Hampshire.
