The Hundred Acre Wood | Winter Cocktail Menu 2011 “Nonsense? That’s it Dinah! If I had a world of my own everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is because everything would be what it isn’t. And contrariwise, what it is, it wouldn’t be. And what it wouldn’t be, it would. You see? ”

The Old Fashioned Drinking today is making a statement, making a declaration that ‘this is who I am’. This is because we are individuals, and as individuals we deserve an equally individual drink, and what better way than with the iconic cocktail, the Martini. With a questionable origin and many claims of creation, one cannot question the renown of the Martini, the godfather of cocktails. We’re giving you the tools to create your very own. It’s like entering numbers into a vending machine to have a unique product pop out the bottom, and it’s definitely more interesting than building a subway sandwich. All you need to do is pick your style, spirit, garnish and how it is served and we will do the rest. Chose your Style 0. Bone Dry (No vermouth) 1. Traditional (1:1 ratio) 2. Dry (1:10 ratio) 3. Wet (1:3 ratio) 4. Dirty (Olive brine replaces vermouth 1:10) 5. Perfect (1:1:10 dry and sweet vermouth) Pick your Spirit 0. Smirnoff Black 1. 42 Below Pure 2. Belvedere 3. Sq1 Organic Rye 4. Ciroc 5. Chopin 6. Aviation 7. Beefeater 24 8. Plymouth 9. Hendricks 10. Gabriel Boudier Saffron 11. Martin Millers 12. South 13. Tanqueray No. 10 14. Sq1 Botanical Pick your Garnish 0. No Garnish 1. Cocktail Onion 2. Lemon Twist 3. 3 Olives 4. Orange Twist 5. Grapefruit Twist 6. 2 Olives 7. 1 Olive Pick How it is served 1. Straight up 2. On the rocks And that’s it! If you still feeling overwhelmed, try our favourites: Guys Martini (3-7-4 Up) Wet Beefeater 24 Martini with an orange twist straight up. Timothees Martini (2-10-2 Up) Dry Saffron gin Martini with a lemon twist straight up. James Bond Martini (0-0-7 Rocks) Bone Dry Smirnoff Black Martini with an olive on the rocks. And that’s all there is to a basic Martini! Obviously you can’t walk into the next cocktail bar and order a 2-14-3 Up Martini, but you can walk in and ask for a Dry Plymouth Martini with 2 olives up! The Bartender will certainly appreciate it.

A good martini is always stirred. In this day and age a martini should never be shaken.

The Spirits List We understand that customers are becoming increasingly brand and taste aware when it comes time to drink, we figure that if we don’t have time to drink or money to burn on sub-par products, then neither do you. Alcohol can be made from nearly anything; and people have created alcohol from everything from waste timber to dairy by-products. Which is why we go to so much effort in selecting our list of products that are of high standard, all our Tequilas are 100% Blue Agave, Our Vodkas all cereal, our rums get their colour and flavour from the wood they are aged in not added caramels and everything is at least 80 Proof. Boutique producers have the ability to give their products greater attention and cure to each individual bottle unlike the larger producers like Bacardi, Smirnoff, Absolut, Bombay, Jose Cuervo etc. who produce millions of litres of alcohol a year, and we believe this attention to detail pays off. But by no means does that mean larger companies can’t produce fantastic products, but with the smaller companies you know every dollar is going into the product and not into international marketing and advertising. Every company’s product is distinct from the next, if you know what to look for, each has flavours, fragrances and feels unique to that product, our staff are here to help if you’d like direction and guidance about our products. The training and education of our staff is important to us, this is key in our efforts of exceeding expectation and providing an experience, a more professional, enjoyable and personal experience, and remembering that it’s about having a good time! Our Aim is to provide service and drinks of a higher standard to those who appreciate the difference of a good drink prepared properly in the time-honoured traditions of Bartending, that are lost on most people and unfortunately many Bartenders. You will find no pre-mixed drinks here, if you are after a Rum and Coke, what we will offer you is a premium Rum (try the Gunpowder Rum!) with real Coca-Cola, in a cold, clean glass with plenty of ice. We put a lot of thought and time into what we do, that is why for us the day starts early, preparing fresh juices, fruits and syrups. We love what we do, we strive to maintain the high standards we set in our service and we hope you notice and appreciate the difference!
