In the winter of 2016, we offer amazing adventures in the snow. Our top mountain guide Berni along with our expert Mauro will take you to the most beautiful spots in the Dolomites. The bike can’t miss this edition too. We are ready to present the first bike specials for the 2016 biking season. On top of that, we offer brand new climbing packages for 2016. [interview] HOLGER FEIST Hello Holger. EVOC has become crucial in the world of sports. What contributed to this huge success? Holger: We have been travelling for a long time along with photographers and mountainbikes or snowboards, looking for the best trail and powdersnow. In 1999, I got under an avalanche and hurt my back during a movie take. The shovel on my backpack broke through and hit my back. That is when I got the idea of the protector backpack. On top of that, it was always a nightmare to travel with my bike packed into a cardboard box. On a flight to Bolivia, the box broke and we had to pick up all the bikes’ pieces at the airport. On that occasion, I started thinking about a new bike bag. We built and tested a lot, and finally created 10 bike bags and 10 protector backpacks. The products were only meant for us, but as more and more people wanted one, we created EVOC.

Your products sell to the bikers in the summer as well as to the freeriders in the winter. What is your primary market? Holger: Biking is our primary market. We are currently in over 32 countries where you can mostly bike year-round. On the other side, we are currently serving 10 countries in which freeriding is a diffused winter sport. Nevertheless, both segments are developed equally. Safety is the first priority at EVOC. With the back protector and ABS, your products feature high end technology. In what direction are EVOC’s products developing in the future? Holger: Yes, safety and quality are our first priorities. That is why our slogan is: “Protect the things you love, protective sports packs!”. It doesn’t matter if your bike needs to be protected during travel, your camera needs to stay safe in your backpack, or your back needs some extra protection.
[tech talk] PERFORMANCE EXPERIENCE Is there also development in what materials are being used?
You visited our biking region this past summer. What do you think about it?
Holger: Yes, we are performing many tests and work close with our suppliers. In the near future, some great new products will hit the market. But I can’t say more right now.
Holger: I love the Dolomites. The mountains, the nature and the views are amazing. The biking trails are amongst the best I have seen. An absolute dream for bike lovers.
What is the best protective backpack for a freerider in contrast to somebody practicing ski touring?
With and for EVOC you travelled across the world. How important is the adventure factor to EVOC?
Holger: For the freeriders, the FR line features the best protective backpacks. It is the ideal freeride backpack: light and practical with many adjustable straps to carry whatever you need to go freeskiing. The backpack only weighs 145g, is felxible and will swing every turn with you.
Holger: Our company was formed due to our adventures. Adventures are a huge part to it and we could experience some great things. This is our philosophy and we will keep living it.
For ski touring, the best choice would be a PATROL 32l or PATROL 45l. It has a great strapping system which allows comfortable carrying and is light and stable.
We still travel a lot on ourselves, also if there are some additional business trips. We also still test our materials with our team. It is very important to us that everybody that works for EVOC know our
products well and test them themselves. That is why this past summer we took a business trip to Scotland with the whole company. 5 days of biking on the highlands.

[bike special] ENDURO DOLOMITES BIKE CAMP
Fabian Scholz is a widely known name in the Enduro field. He is the current German champion in Enduro. As a team manager and as part of the Focus Trail teams he brings a lot of experience into the Enduro field. On the first day of the „Enduro Dolomites Cup“, the participants learn the trail basics like the curve technique and work on their overall technique. The setup of the bike will be dissected by Fabian. Fabian not only works as a team rider at Focus Bikes, but also as a mechanic. Through his job, he can give you great advice on your bike’s setup. The second day is entirely devoted to trail biking. On our Dolomite Enduro routes we will practice what we learned. We focus on the hardest parts of the trail and train specifically on certain techniques. Our goal is that all of the participants have fun, learn/improve the trail technique and that they are capable to safely bike down a S2 to S3 trail.
