riqualificazione del nodo di interscambio di Milano Rogoredo location / Rogoredo, Milano project partners / Laura Farina, Arianna Rusconi Master thesis Filippo Orsini (relatore), Alessandra Oppio (correlatore)
The thesis deals with the role of infrastructural poles of the contemporary metropolis, where mobility represents one of the main forms to inhabit the territory. The infrastructural landscape is often able to tell the relationship between individuals and the city in a much more emblematic way than those landscapes that are traditionally considered as representative for the identity of the place, as well as the common history of its inhabitants. The reinterpretation of the infrastructures according to the social and cultural meaning of the public space becomes fundamental to redefine the sense of belonging of a place neglected by temporariness of its use. The proposed design, conceived from the environmental, economic and social point of view, consist in the rehabilitation of a strategical infrastructural node (Milano Rogoredo) as an attractive centre and a representative public space in the surrounding urban system, with the aim to generate surplus value able to fund public interventions of reconnection with the territory and the milanese rural context.

Inujima is a small island off Okayama in the Seto Inland Sea in Japan. The island is so small that you can visit it on foot in about two hours. Today, the remaining inhabitants are less than 30 and are over 80 years old. They all live in the village near the port. In recent years the island has become a seat of the Triennial Setouchi giving the island an artistic vocation. The Inujima Seirensho Art Museum was built and Kazuyo Sejima made the Inujima Art Project by building 5 small galleries scattered around the village. Our project aims to improve the number of tourist of the island by creating pavilions where is possibile to do activities related to art and to the Triennal Setouchi, and developing the existing paths in order to discover a new part of the island. The path begins at the harbor and develops through the mountains of the island, leading to the beach. Three pavilions are situatited during the path in order to create spaces where you can stay and rest. The circus arena, with a strong relation with the contest and designed to be the first step of the path. The music centre pavilion which plays with the two existing quarries and allows a view over them. At the end, the bigger one, the theatre academy works as a node between the existing and the new paths creating a relation with part of the island where is difficult to go today.

Via Ripamonti, 42 location / Milano, Italy project partners / Carlotta Catte, Laura Farina, Rachele Mancuso, Arianna Rusconi, Eleonora Zepponi course / 2018 / politecnico di Milano / construction design studio Held by: Giulia Andi (Lin Architects, Berlin)
The aim of the project was the renovation of a tertiary building located in Via Ripamonti, disused since 2004, and responds to the theme of the project working on the envelope, which adapts to functional changes and it’s compatible with internal flexibility. The taller building, dedicated to residences for families and students, communicates with two differents realities: the road facade is organized according to a grid that reflects the original structural grid, in order to accomodate any internal configuration. The internal facade presents itself with a more domestic image, as opposed to the earlier, more urban and rigorous. The plans of the apartaments are highly flexible and modular in order to create different possibilities of spaces. The lower building, situated behind the “tower”, is a space event and the facades are characterized by steel strips with different distances in order to control the illumination of the interior. Both buildings have a common and central theme of the project: the roof. The “tower” is configured with a thin steel blade that crowns the building. The other one instead continues to play with the theme of light, configuring itself as a shed roof which can create differents atmoshpheres in the interior.

Restoration of an old farm
as they once didn’t restoration of an old farm
location / Chiaravalle, Milano, Italy project partners / Alessandro Bucchi, Nadia Buelli course / 2017 / politecnico di Milano / restoration design studio Held by: Gabriella Guarisco, Daniela Oreni
The Gerola farmstead is placed in chiaravalle Milanese, in the southeast area of Milan, next to the Vettabbia Park. For ages it has gravitated around the agricoltural production context linked to the cistercian Chiaravalle Abbey. As the time went by, this prosperous context failed and now it presents precarious conditions. The intervent focuses on preserving the original structure with a not invasive reuse by using reversible solutions and presenting a clear identity in comparison to the former building, without falling in an asettic reproduction of the original system. The farmstead opens on a big courtyard where the two principad volumes overlook. The first holds the new museum of agricolture work and a thematic library. Since the second level of this ancient barn shows a total lack of the pitched roof, the main strategy consists of defining a new self-supporting strucure, with new steal sheeted gabled roof that is able to showcase the original complex. A little hostel is placed in the other building. A freestanding wooden device provides storage and other facilities in each room without damaging the fragile structure. In the fields a new greenhouse takes place in order to support the agricoltural production of the site.

location / Oslo, Norway project partner / Laura Farina course / 2019 / politecnico di Milano / thematic design studio Held by: Laurent Salomon, Elena Fontanella
The project circumscribes a portion of the “Goccia” of Bovisa: a big urban void in Milan, starting its transformation. The masterplan is composed of linear residential elements at the edges and singular public buildings inside. The linear ones relate the internal area with the external one and invite the Campus of Politecnico of Milan nearby. The singular elements are renovated existing buildings (objets trouvés) except for the new library: a public tower that dialogue with the horizon of the city. The library is a monumental door facing the university. It is connected to the campus through a path that cross the existing gasometer that now host outdoor events. Inside the tower the book spaces envelop the reading areas evoking a multidisciplinary knowledge.

privileggio-secchi book
privileggio-secchi book selected projects of the studio location / Via Enrico Papi 10, Milano internship / 2017-2018 / privileggio-secchi architettura
The book, 135 pages, contains some of the most relevant projects of the studio Privileggio-Secchi architettura, where I did my intership. The book is divided in five chapters that contains different themes: constructing landscape, restructuring the city, interpreting typology, designing with heritage and a project list since 1992. The front cover is composed by a design from the project Grand projet communaux d’Ambilly. The pages are a B5 modified with the dimension of 19.5x25 cm in order to have a more vertical sense of the book. The layout is based on a grid that allowed to organize different types of materials such as photos, sketches, techical drawings and the texts. The work of the office crosses the fields of architecture, townplanning and landscape design. A design investigation sensitive to urban-architectural contexts, and to the relentionships between history and innovation constitutes the founding ground of Privileggio-Secchi design research.
