TYPOLOGY AND TOPOGRAPHY Inhabiting Heritage
T h i s p r o j e c t , d e v e l o p e d d u r i n g t h e p e r i o d a t K i n g s t o n U n i v e r s i t y, i s l o c a t e d in the old centre of Seville, Spain , listed by UNESCO as world heritage. The objective of this project was through the study of the topography and the unique city typology: Casa Patio; Corales and Pasajes , design a mixed use building to house apartments, workshops, auditorium and a space for temporary exhibitions. • • • • • •
Use of the three typologies to develop the site strategy; Use of the materiality of Seville public buildings (bricks) on the public areas of the project; Arches (public building of Seville) on the threshold of the public area of the project; Spaces-in-between (shaded areas) Complex of patios organizing the brief Façade materials (bricks and painted white walls) as elements of contextualization

This project was developed on the final year of the graduation. This project consists in a mixes income house complex in one of the most complex sites in the centre of Sao Paulo. This site went through all of the urbanization process that fragmented t h e u r b a n f a b r i c o f t h e c i t y. The design consists: • Site strategy that organises the site considering the pre-existences; • Reconstitute the vegetation; • Promote the pedestrian life; • Streets and squares as meeting spaces (dynamic life) • Diversification of uses on the ground floor (Jane Jacobs); • Prioritise pedestrians over cars; • Buildings typology to recover the boundar y between public and private spaces; • E v o k e i n d u s t r i a l m a t e r i a l i t y h e r i t a g e o f t h e c i t y i n t h e b u i l d i n g ’s f a ç a d e ( b r i c k s )
