TAKE CARE OF YOUR HANDS Hands are involved in any work activity, so they are continuously subjected to rubbing, dust and liquids, high and low temperature. The right work glove is the most efficient protective device for this important component of the human body, but also improves its performance and reduces fatigue.

SINCE 1938 AT THE SERVICE OF OUR CUSTOMERS

The company was established in 1938 by Ruggiero Cortellino as Cortelgomma, a small workshop where shoes were manufactured using the tyres of military trucks for the soles and military uniforms for the uppers. Everyday about 10 pairs of shoes were produced and sold to the nearest markets. The founder’s passion and enterprise let the small workshop turn into a company in few years, producing hundreds of pairs per day, distributed all over Italy. In 1983 the company became COFRA which is now managed by Giuseppe Cortellino, Ruggiero’s son. COFRA keeps on growing thanks to a wise and innovative management, which has led it to become a leader in the safety footwear market as well as a wellknown brand in Europe and all over the world. COFRA is today considered a safety footwear specialist. It invests in research and developmentin order to offer innovative and new trends solutions; thanks to a certified data management system, reliability and a highly appreciated service are guaranteed. COFRA branded products are the result of experience, specialization and masterly tradition.

THE WORK GLOVES COLLECTION

This brand-new collection has been devised in accordance to COFRA’s standards standing out for safety, extreme care for comfort and details. COFRA’s work gloves collection complies with EN 420 / EN 388 / EN 407 / EN 511 for superb performance in any work activity, to guarantee dexterity and protection from abrasion, cuts, cold and hot temperatures.

EN 420 - DEXTERITY

Dexterity is the the capacity to handle tools and make movements when wearing gloves. According to the intended use, the glove should provide the maximum dexterity allowed. It depends on several factors, e.g. the thickness of the glove material, its elasticity, its deformability. COFRA carries out the dexterity test on each glove, so that the best application can be selected. EN 420 standard defines different performance degrees in a range from 1 (low dexterity) up to maximum 5 (maximum dexterity).

MATERIALS THE COATING The kind of coating is essential to choose the right glove: it has to be chosen according to the different contact surfaces, mechanical performance demands, comfort needs:

NITRILE NITRA-X

Innovative compound developed by COFRA that guarantees optimal flexibility. The special porosity provides a superb grip on wet and oily surfaces. Good level of breathability. Recommended for humid and/or oily surfaces, but also for works requiring a new level of comfort while always keeping the mechanical performances of a nitrile glove.

SMOOTH NITRILE

Excellent dry grip. Resistant to oils and chemicals. The compact surface provides optimal mechanical properties and it opposes to water leaking. Coating fitting different applications.

NITRILE FOAM

Excellent wet and dry grip. The porous surface provides excellent breathability and comfort, as well as better flexibility than smooth nitrile. Coating fitting different applications, above all wet surfaces.

SAND FINISHED NITRILE CRINKLED LATEX POLYURETHANE PU-DEX

Excellent grip on oily surfaces, thanks to its special coating. Very good performance in durability, abrasion and tear. Recommended for workshops and oily tools handling applications. Excellent dry grip. Maximum comfort and dexterity provided from the elasticity of latex. Not resistant to oils and chemicals in general. Recommended for construction and high comfort demand. New polyurethane compound that turns around the concept of grip. The excellent grasp of little tools and the maximum dexterity enhance productivity in those jobs where maximum precision and accuracy are demanded.

SMOOTH POLYURETHANE

Superb breathability. Its thinness and flexibility provide maximum dexterity and superb comfort. It is not well resistant to wear. Recommended for little tools handling and in applications where a high mechanical resistance is not demanded.

NITRILE MIXED POLYURETHANE

Excellent breathability, flexibility and dexterity. The nitrile strengthens the glove, thus enhancing its mechanical resistance. Recommended for little tools handling or in applications that demand increased breathability.

THE LININGS NYLON

It is the fabric offering the best resistance to abrasion and wear, far better than polyester. It resists also to oils and most of chemicals. Good elasticity.

POLYESTER

Fabric which combines good mechanical properties (wear resistance and dimensional steadiness) and good thermic properties. Lightness and robustness at the same time make it very versatile.

ACRYLIC

It provides excellent thermal insulation, above all if flock-lined. Good abrasion resistance. Recommended to work at low temperatures.

COTTON

It is the most comfortable fabric to the skin. Less resistant than nylon, It is however highly breathable.

KEVLAR速

Highly cut, flame and heat resistant aramidic yarn. Reinforced with a flexible steel mesh, it can reach the maximum cut protection category (category 5).

HDPE

(high density polyethylene)

Highly cut protection yarn. Thin and flexible, it provides protection, comfort and superb dexterity. Microfibre padding characterized by a complexive surface 10 times larger than the usual fibres. This implies that the THINSULATETM microfibres keep more air, thus reducing the passage of warmth from inside to outside. This guarantees a constant thermal insulation even with strong wind and low temperatures.

7

THE LEATHERS During manufacturing and stratification, the leather is split into two parts: the external layer is called full grain leather and it is the one used to provide further softness and comfort, the internal layer is called split leather to provide better mechanical performance such as resistance to tear and wear.

COW LEATHER

Highly resistant to abrasion and to atmospheric agents such as humidity and sunlight. Usually the cow leather gloves are thicker, thus providing greater resistance. On the market it is possible to find several kinds of gloves: COFRA carefully chooses leathers guaranteeing at the same time softness and resistance.

GOAT LEATHER

Unlike the cow leather, the goat leather is used with thinner thickness, thus enhancing feeling in fingers and dexterity. The lower thickness does not imply low mechanical resistance, and at the same time it allows better breathability.

CALF LEATHER

Calf is a very refined leather belonging to the cow leathers category, joining the advantages of a high mechanical resistance and low thickness that the cow leather is not able to provide. Very similar to goat leather but softer and more resistant.

AZO FREE

All the fabrics used for leather gloves are without AZO DYES.

SIZES To get the maximum comfort with gloves, choosing the right size is essential. The general standard EN 420 indicates how to determine the size needed: measure the circumference of your hand, as indicated in the chart. One size for each hand measure; all COFRA’s gloves are colour coded for size identification, as indicated in the chart:

MECHANICAL PROTECTION Gloves engineered for construction, industry and any activity where resistance to wear and abrasion are essential. Our collection includes a wide range of gloves to meet the need of robustness, dexterity and comfort.

Lining made of highly breathable natural fibre. The cotton on the palm functions as thermoregulating device keeping the hand dry.

The new era of comfort for work gloves.

FLEXICOTTON and FLEXYNIT models are the new era of comfort for work gloves. The cotton yarn, thanks to its natural breathability and humidity absorption, enhances comfort if compared to the usual gloves and it considerably delays the sweat. The yarn is realised through a new double-layer technique, providing high bidirectional elasticity and which, along with the special latex compound able to reach considerable flexibilty, allows the glove to perfectly adhere to the hand, thus reaching the maximum dexterity degree (level 5 according to EN 420), without causing stress or tensions to the hand.

CUT PROTECTION A range of protective gloves devised to protect against cutting risks when handling glass, plates and any kind of blunt instruments. The reinforced lining assures durability and allows to work with cutting materials without any risk. COFRA products are conceived to face any degree of protection and any worker’s need, according to the application.

CHOOSE THE BEST CUT-RESISTANT GLOVES There are several types of cut-resistant gloves according to the worker’s needs and risks that the glove should protect against. The European standards are strict and help understanding the features of the glove and its levels of protection. EN 388 standard (protection against mechanical risks) describes the procedure to measure the cut resistance: a sharp circular blade rotates through the surface of the glove. The result represents the number of cycles required by the blade to cut through the glove and can be a value between level 0 and level 5. However, the test performed by EN 388 does not reflect the everyday work, since it does not take into consideration the real forces that come into play during a normal work, such as when the contact with a cutting tool is stronger than normal or if the workers handle tools that can slip out of their hands by accident. For this reason, EN 388 standard allows to test the glove even with a more severe method: ISO 13997 testing. It uses a straight blade drawn across the glove while it moves along a plain surface. The test result represents the blade force that the glove can resist to: it ranges from 4 (if it resists to a force greater than 13 N) to 5 (if it resists to a force greater than 22 N). In detail, the norm recommends the ISO 13997 testing for gloves made of “high cut-resistance materials”, ensuring a REAL PROTECTION.

Glove made of KEVLAR® which provides an excellent protection against cutting (level 5 of EN 388 and level 5 of ISO 13997) The coating made of NITRA-X which covers also the knuckles, grants protection against oil penetration thus maintaining flexibility. The lining made of KEVLAR® allows to have contact with heat (up to 250 °C) without reducing cut resistance, unlike the glove made of plastic fibers such as nylon, polyester or polyethylene at high density whose slight resistance to heat decreases performances of protection against cutting. Minimum protection against flame

CUT PROTECTION

MULTIFUNCTIONAL GLOVES INOX and INOX 15: MAXIMUM PROTECTION BOTH AGAINST CUT AND HEAT Very adaptable glove, able to protect at the same time against cut, any kind of mechanical stress, heat and flame. The suede leather palm is resistant to wear and assures a good grip on oily surfaces. Suitable for metal manufacturing, which requires both the handling of high temperature tools (INOX and INOX 15 resist to contact heat up to 250 째C and comply with fire behaviour testing) and cutting operations involving the use of metal sheets or oily metals whose edges are still sharp. In this and other cases INOX and INOX 15 replace any gloves for different kinds of operations, thus allowing to save a considerable amount of time and enhancing efficiency and productivity at workplace.
