CANADA - ONTARIO JOB GRANT PROGRAM
What is it?
The Canada-Ontario Job Grant (COJG) provides opportunities for employers to invest in their workforce with help from the government. It provides direct financial support to individual employers or employer consortia who wish to purchase training for their employees. It is available to small, medium and large size businesses.
How It Works:
• Employers can get up to $10,000 in government support per person for training costs. • The training has to be delivered by an eligible, third-party trainer. • Employers with 100 or more employees need to contribute 1/2 of the training costs. Employers with less than 100 employees need to contribute 1/6 of the training costs. • For employer groups that want to apply, the government offers a
COJG Consortium Stream. This allows two or more employers to pool their resources to support common training objectives and goals. To apply as a consortium, the intermediary organization needs to ensure all the participating employers and trainees meet COJG requirements, and are able to make their required contribution towards the training cost. • Most organizations acting as an intermediary are eligible for administrative funding equal to 15% of the government contribution.

EDUCATION & TRAINING CORPORATE TAX WRITE-OFFS

A corporate tax return is actually really straight forward. You start with the gross sales (revenue) and then deduct all of the eligible business expenses. Training and education courses are part of those business expenses.
Corporate taxes don’t have tax credits like a personal return does. Instead, you pay income tax on the full amount of your profit (revenue minus expenses), regardless of how small that profit may be. So, the more you spend on Education and Training, the less tax you pay.
*Make sure to hold onto your receipts! *Certain limits apply, see your tax specialist for details.
Currently in Ontario, the corporate tax rate is 12.2% on your first $500,000 of profit. Once you exceed $500,000 the rate increases to 26.5%.
