TO ALL OUR TVFCU MEMBERS WE CAN LEND A “HELPING HAND” The challenges we are all facing today are complex and may look different to each of you. With this in mind, TVFCU wants you to know that despite your individual personal burdens and financial hardships, our goal is to extend a “Helping Hand” where we can to all of our TVFCU members. We will, however, require your assistance in making us aware of your situation. The best way to reach us is via contact@tvfcubatavia.com or by phone at 585-343-5627. Our TVFCU Board of Directors is committed to easing some of the impact that the COVID-19 Pandemic has inflicted on you. They have made some decisions to benefit members who have existing loans as well as those who may be looking for additional funds, at this time. We feel that many of us can benefit from a “Helping Hand” and that is why TVFCU is extending ours.

Recognize that more than food is available for takeout. In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York announced relaxations on laws governing what can and cannot be obtained via takeout, allowing takeout on goods that were previously restricted in regard to takeout. For example, Cuomo announced that the New York State Liquor Authority intended to temporarily relax regulations regarding the takeout and delivery of alcohol. Utilizing such services can be a great way to support local businesses while still adhering to recommendations designed to slow the spread of COVID-19.

NOW HERE'S A TIP By JoAnn Derson

* Spice racks can pull double duty on the walls by your vanity. They are the perfect size for toiletries and makeup items. They also work very nicely for nail polish bottles.

Science has never drummed up quite as effective a tranquilizing agent as a sunny spring day. ~ W. Earl Hall

Dental Health During COVID-19

* "To get the best reading on meat using a meat thermometer, try sticking it in from the side. It can go in further, and to me it feels like I get a better reading than poking it in all over a steak." -- M.E. in Florida

To our patients and community, This is certainly an unprecedented time for all of us. We are here for you, and want you to feel cared for during these times of uncertainty. We have assembled resources on our website (see below), and are creating kid-friendly videos on dental health that you can share with your family.

* Things you can freeze in small portions using an ice cube tray: tomato paste, coffee, coconut milk, broth or stock, wine, herbed butter or herbed olive oil. * "If you have trouble holding your cat still to clip his claws, sneak up on him while he's asleep. You might only get a couple done before he catches on and wriggles away, but you'll get there." -- P.L. in Oklahoma City (This great tip works for babies, too! -- JoAnn) * "To get the dog to stop eating his food so fast, my daughter puts dry food in a silverware sorter -- the plastic insert that holds cutlery in a drawer. Their dogs have to work at it, and it has helped them slow down so they don't get sick. She can just toss it in the dishwasher to clean, too!" -- U.E. in Ohio GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

ended up in dairy, where I met Rylie who also was very, very helpful to me regarding some milk. Of course, I want to express my appreciation to the cashiers at the cash registers. Thank you for continuing to go to work. Under such stressful times, you all deserve a big shout out!

To the woman in a red jacket or sweater with very blonde hair who purposely came up behind me on (local street) where I was avoiding bad sidewalks and people on bikes on Tuesday, March 31st, I apologize for the tongue lashing I gave you. You came up from behind me, put your hand on my shoulder and scared me! You bent over and confronted me about someone caring about me, which I am sure isn’t you, as you were within two feet of my face. The requirement at present is 6 feet. I do not apologize for my anger; I only apologize for what I said to you. Please be respectful of others on the street.

It’s sad that someone must vent about people leaving the painted rocks in parks. All they want to do is brighten someone’s day. They take the time to do this, which I think is great. Especially now, when hiking is about the only thing that we can do. I can’t wait to find one and pay it forward.

Thanks to all my family and friends who took the time to wish me a Happy 92nd Birthday and for the morning serenade on my yard. I appreciate the thought, and it made my day much more special.

Thank you to the City of Canandaigua for repairing the sidewalks at the lower end of Main Street, near the Native American statue going north to Lindsey’s Nail Salon. This has made walking with wheeled vehicles so much easier as you also removed the roots where the trees were pushing up the sidewalks. Thank you!

To everyone who is able to stay home or is employed at a job where you are able to wash your hands when needed: Have you even thought about the people whose jobs take them out of the house everyday -- into their vehicles or a job site where there is not sink to wash? They rely on the hand sanitizer to effectively prevent illness. Shame on you if you are one of those people who won’t share what you don’t even need because you are home or at a job where you can wash multiple times per day or as needed. Soap and water are more effective than the sanitizer for people who have access to it during the day. GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

news of those who have recovered and survived? Hopefully, seclusion won’t last beyond the end of April, as people need people, and too much isolation is unhealthy, too. Just wash your hands and cover your mouth when coughing and don’t get too close to others. Also, stop hoarding things! That is mean! Regarding the person who complained that their groceries were not packed properly: I had the same problem, plus the bags were packed too heavy. I solved both problems. I fold my reusable bags and place them in one bag. When I get to the checkout, I place one folded bag on the conveyer and place the groceries I want in that bag behind it. I do the same with the second bag, etc. Produce is with produce, meat with meat, etc., and bags are light. I leave the store a happy person.

Thank you to Mount Morris Central School District for continuing to make student lunches available by pick up daily and for further looking out for families by offering rolls of toilet paper to student families, as well. Their “teacher parade” of cars through several village streets was a blessing, and their continued support for families has been inspiring. Thank you!

To the person who ranted about Painted Rocks littering the parks, when I read it, all I could say is wow! I love to see the painted rocks in the parks, and I do not consider them as litter. Everyone I know smiles when they see them! I agree with you about littering; what you bring into the park should be what you take out with you. But the painted rocks spread joy and happiness, which is what we need more of, especially during this time. Please do not be so grumpy about the painted rocks.

PAW'S CORNER

DEAR PAW'S CORNER: I've been working from home for the past two weeks, and my dog and cat, "Mutt" and "Shelley," won't leave me alone! I tried putting them into the bedroom during conference calls, but they yowl and meow nonstop. What can I do Brad in Boston DEAR BRAD: Ah, the joys of working from home: like your cat walking across the keyboard. It's clear that your pets are overjoyed to see you at home all day. They're thinking, "Yes! Dad's here! He didn't leave for hours and hours today! We can play with him all day!" And then they pester you for attention nonstop, right? And when you shut them in the bedroom, they're not happy. "Dad's in there! In the other room! Come let us out so we can play with you!" Like millions of people, your work routine has changed for at least several weeks. That means your pets' routines have changed, too, and you need to establish new ones. First thing in the morning, give Shelley and Mutt lots of attention. Take Mutt out for a walk and play/training session where you reinforce basic commands and let him burn off energy. Indoors, grab a cat toy and play with Shelley for a bit. If you have a scheduled conference call, take Mutt out again for a few minutes or play with him indoors beforehand. This may calm him enough that he can remain in the room. Take frequent five-minute breaks and give attention to your pets each time. Use this remote working as an opportunity to train your pets and spend more time with them. They can provide plenty of stress relief, too -- something we all need right about now.

Hello, my name is Beth, and I am a petite diluted torti. I have lived with my Mom for 19 months now. She rescued me from the Batavia shelter who saved my life. I was brought in very thin, nearly starved, and kind of sick. The nice people at the shelter nursed me back to health and then my Mom adopted me! I have a canine brother and we love each other a lot. I have great food to eat now and lots of lovies from my Mom. Send us a photo and brief write-up of your pet and we’ll feature it. Email to: sales@gvpennysaver.com or mail to: P.O. PET OBESITY IS A GROWING PROBLEM The Purina Pet Care Center found that overweight pets may live two years less than ideal weight pets. Reduced life span is not the only problem, as carrying extra pounds can contribute to various maladies. These include osteoarthritis and poor joint health, type 2 diabetes, ligament injuries, heart and respiratory disease, kidney disease, and cancer.

LOCAL DINING SPOTS FOSTER COMMUNITY Crowd control: Local restaurants tend to be smaller and more intimate than many chain restaurants. This can translate into a calm dining experience. When crowds are small, the noise level inside the restaurant may be muted and service may be fast because there aren’t as many tables to serve. Furthermore, local establishments, although concerned about making a profit, may be less worried about table turnover rate, preferring to let diners linger if it means repeat business.

(585) 343-0225 DID YOU KNOW? Pizza continues to remain a popular comfort food and go-to staple for quick, family-friendly meals. Statistics Brain reports that 93 percent of Americans eat at least one piece of pizza per month. Five billion pizzas are sold worldwide each year, and the United States accounts for three billion of those pizzas. The average person will eat 46 slices of pizza each year. The world can thank Raffaele Esposito for creating the first pizza that resembled the pizza the world knows today. Esposito created the pizza for Italy’s Queen Margherita when she visited Naples in 1889. The crust was garnished with tomatoes, mozzarella and basil to represent the national colors of Italy: red, white and green.

HOW TO BE MORE COURTEOUS WHILE DINING OUT Clean up after yourself and children. If your party makes a big mess or a child gets sick or spills something, make an effort to clean up the table.

RECIPES FOR FUN: If you’re preparing a meal, it could be a good time to teach children of reading age how to review a recipe. Evaluating ingredients to learn how food transforms from raw to cooked or how a dish is created can help kids learn kitchen skills. FOOD GROUPS FOCUS: Get kids involved in making dinner by setting a rule that each food group must be represented. Give them a warmup activity by asking which food groups are found in family favorites like chicken soup, lasagna or meatloaf. Asking kids to guess which ingredients are used in these dishes and identifying which food group each ingredient belongs to can help them understand dietary balance. ●

TRY A TASTE OF HISPANIC HERITAGE (NAPSI)—National Hispanic Heritage Month is an opportunity to acknowledge the history, culture and contributions of the people of Mexico, the Caribbean, Central and South America, and Spain. One of the best ways to celebrate, many say, is with food. Making that easy is one restaurant chain that’s having a year-round love affair with Latin and Hispanic cuisine. Long known for its authentic Tex-Mex roots, Church’s Chicken®/Texas Chicken® has spent years championing the commemorative period—which runs from September15 to October 15th—on a global stage. The first Hispanic influence on the company’s menu was the jalapeño pepper—the very first side item ever offered at the restaurant chain. The peppers were added to the menu due to a San Antonio tradition of squeezing their juice over various foods to give them a south-of-theborder style “kick” of heat and spice. The restaurant’s sister brand, Texas Chicken, features the Mexicana Burger on menus worldwide. This tasty chicken burger is a fiesta of tastes and textures, with a juicy hand-battered chicken breast fillet that’s topped “taco style” with cheese, fresh lettuce, tomato, spicy mayo, crunchy tortilla chips and chopped onions. TO YOUR GOOD HEALTH By Keith Roach, M.D.

Vitamin D Works Slowly ---

DEAR DR. ROACH: Is there any reason to start taking vitamin D at age 90? I’m in good health except for osteopenia and high blood pressure. How long does it take to have an effect? -- P.S. ANSWER: In your case, there are potentially two good reasons to start taking vitamin D -- if your blood levels are low. One is that with osteopenia (a condition of low bone mass, a precursor to osteoporosis, which increases risk for bone fractures), replacing low vitamin D can improve bone strength and reverse bone loss. This can keep people from needing other medications for osteoporosis, which are much more likely than vitamin D to have side effects. Older people with vitamin D deficiency also often have some muscle weakness. If you can’t get out of a chair without using your hands and you have a low vitamin D level, replacing vitamin D may help with the weakness. Of course, there are many causes for weakness in a person and there is no guarantee of effectiveness, but vitamin D is very safe in moderate doses, like 1,000 to 2,000 IU daily. Vitamin D also may reduce fall risk, probably by improving strength, especially in combination with exercise. Vitamin D works slowly -- weeks to months for muscle effects, and months to years for bone effects. ***

DEAR DR. ROACH: I was seeing my primary care physician every six months for about five years. We had mutual respect, and I enjoyed seeing him. Then, I got diagnosed with breast cancer and had to see other doctors for a long time. Meanwhile, the spinal stenosis my primary care physician had diagnosed was becoming untenable and ruining my quality of life. Even though I am still seeing cancer doctors, I called my primary care physician to make an appointment to discuss the spinal stenosis situation with him. After a long wait, I finally got someone in my primary care physician’s office and, after another long wait, was informed that he could not see me for six months -- there was not one opening until then. I was flabbergasted and asked to be put on a cancellation list. “We don’t keep those,” the lady responded. I reluctantly took the appointment and decided to wait it out. Meanwhile, I saw one of my cancer doctors today, and after explaining this situation to him, he replied: “Doctors don’t do that. He obviously doesn’t want you as a patient anymore. I would find another primary care physician.” What is your response to this? I am 71 years old, and other than spinal stenosis and breast cancer (which was caught early and treated with surgery and radiation a year ago), I enjoy reasonably good health. -- J.E.Y. ANSWER: I hope there is another side to this story, since I am horrified that a physician would make a longstanding patient with cancer and spinal stenosis wait six months for an appointment. That is not appropriate medical care. While I fully understand the point of view of your cancer doctor -- and would be tempted to find another doctor -- it sounds like saving the relationship you had with your PCP might be worth another try. I think speaking directly with your primary care doctor might clear up any misunderstanding. ***

Your Smiles by Dr. Steve Sokolovskiy

WEAR THE CROWN PROUDLY When a cavity is too large to be filled or when a tooth is significantly weakened, the dentist is likely to recommend that it be replaced with a “crown” (or “cap”) that takes the place of the visible portion of the tooth that sits above the gum line. Crowns fit over the top of a tooth and protect what is underneath. Once they are cemented in place, they act as a new top for the tooth, while keeping it from breaking apart. Because they are mostly indistinguishable from natural teeth, crowns also restore the appearance of the mouth. They are constructed of very resilient and durable materials, including gold alloys; precious, semiprecious, or nonprecious alloys; porcelain; and composite resins.

YOUR FUNGAL TOENAILS

• Were you embarrassed this summer to wear sandals or go barefoot because of thick, yellow nails? Now’s the time to get treatment. • If left untreated, fungal toenails can cause: recurring athlete’s foot, infected ingrown toenails (requiring surgery) and discomfort wearing shoes, not to mention their unsightly appearance. • Patients with diabetes, poor circulation, and numbness to their feet can develop more serious complications. • There are safer, new topical medications available to help cure fungal toenails. • A simple one a day pill for 3 months will usually cure fungal toenails within 6-9 months from the start of treatment. • Treatment now may result in clear, thinner nails for the year 2016. • Call now for an appointment to determine if you’re a candidate for this newer treatment.

Athletes can pursue a host of potential hobbies or activities that will foster their love of sports. Men and women who still have a hop in their step can sign up to compete in adult sports leagues. Depending on the sport, leagues might be available to adults of various ages and skill levels, and some may even be more focused on fun than competition. For athletes who can no longer lace up their cleats, coaching youth sports or volunteering to coach at a nearby school provides a chance to stay involved even if competing is no longer possible.

SENIOR NEWS LINE By Matilda Charles

Stay Fed, Stay Safe Life has certainly changed recently. Depending on where you live, it might have changed a lot. Stay home if you're a senior. Stay home if you have a medical condition. That's what we've been told. That's all well and good, but what if we really need to shop for food? What if we couldn't stock up last week because the Social Security benefit hadn't made it to our checking account yet? If you're really in a jam for food, call the food bank. Of all the places, that one is most likely to still be open. They're trying to keep people fed, especially seniors, as well as children who don't get free meals because the schools are now closed. Ask if they have a driveup pantry where you can be handed some bags of food through the car window. You might find that food is being distributed at places like the senior center or a school parking lot or via Meals on Wheels, even if you aren't signed up as a participant. If you do dare to enter a store, a number of grocery stores are designating the first hour or two in the morning for seniors only. Not all stores are doing this, so call first. If they don't do it, suggest it. You're more likely to find the things you need during this time as the shelves will (hopefully) be restocked overnight. And with fewer people in the store, you're less likely to run into someone with the virus, but stay away from other people anyway. If you go, be sure to take sanitizing wipes for the cart handles. Remember, if you go out, you're really not safe from the virus. Do it as little as possible.

Do you relish the idea of an afternoon nap? If so, you're in good company. According to the National Sleep Foundation, John F. Kennedy, Winston Churchill, Napoleon, and Albert Einstein each fancied afternoon naps. Youngsters nap, and so do many seniors. But by and large, humans are part of the minority of mammals that do not sleep for short periods of time throughout the day, instead dividing their days between sleep and wakefulness. However, there are some benefits to catching a midday snooze. The Mayo Clinic says napping can be a way to catch up on sleep lost during the night or if a person is feeling sleep-deprived. It also may be a way to relax, increase alertness and improve mood. Naps should take place before 3 p.m. and not exceed 20 minutes. The longer and later one naps, the greater the potential it will interfere with nighttime sleeping or backfire and cause daytime grogginess. TF203783 GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

HEALTHY SNACK TIME TASTE TESTS: Sometimes it feels like kids can snack all day long on easy-to-grab crackers, chips or cookies. Next time they reach into the snack pantry, try incorporating a taste test or food critic activity to encourage something different and more nutritious. PURPOSEFUL PLAYTIME: Many households have a play kitchen or some kind of play food. Use this as an opportunity to act out how to create a healthy kitchen with activities like making salad, setting the table, peeling bananas and washing dishes. This can help young children become more independent, learn what to expect and grow into little helpers at family mealtime. SENSORY ACTIVITY: One idea that can work for school and at home is making a sensory box. Simply place a fruit or two inside a tissue box and have children put their hands inside then try to guess which fruit it is by feeling it.

If you don’t get everything you want, think of the things you don’t get that you don’t want. ~Oscar Wilde

How to make your own face mask

to help stop the spread of the coronavirus The CDC recommends you cover your mouth to protect yourself and others from the coronavirus. Simply follow these instructions: Materials: 12”x9” piece of fabric 12”x9” piece of interfacing 14” narrow elastic

1. Cut material and interfacing to 12 x 9 inches 2. Iron interfacing to material (adhesive side to back of material) 3. Once ironed, fold fabric in half with interfacing on the outside 4. Cut two pieces of elastic — each 7-inches long 5. Pin and sew 1/4-inch from edge leaving a 2-inch gap in the center 6. Put elastic band on each corner, inside the material and pin to keep in place, making sure the elastic is not twisted. Pin in center as well 7. Sew along both edges, making sure to sew extra stitches in the elastic. Turn the fabric right side out through the 2” gap. Iron mask flat. 8. Fold 2 pleats. Sew around the entire perimeter of the mask. This holds the pleats in place and closes the 2-inch gap.

Test out your new mask when it’s necessary to head out to do your grocery shopping or wherever social distancing may be difficult.

This week’s puzzle answer is elsewhere in this paper. The Crossword Puzzle is provided by Tribune Media Services. Any questions or comments should be made to 1-800-346-8798.

FYI… You can use any sort of cotton fabric. Why not cut up an old t-shirt with your favorite team’s logo on it! And, if you don’t have interfacing, never fear. Any mask is better than no mask! GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

C.Y. Landscaping THE BENEFITS OF BACKYARD KOI PONDS Koi ponds can make for beautiful additions to backyards or home gardens. While many people are drawn to koi ponds because of their aesthetic appeal, there are many additional reasons for homeowners to consider installing koi ponds in their backyards. Ponds and water gardens can transform yards rather quickly. Ponds can add appeal to otherwise mundane yards and provide eye-catching, relaxing spots to sit and enjoy the scenery. Koi ponds have recently fallen into a favor with homeowners in North America, but these popular water features date back several centuries to Asia. Centuries ago, Chinese rice farmers began keeping carp in their rice paddies, and that practice eventually caught on in Japan. The fish started to breed and form slight color variations. Koi, often referred to as “Nishikigoi,” are actually descendants of the common carp, though the koi of today are more brightly hued and ornamental fish than carp. Koi can become a lowmaintenance family pet. These fish tend to grow accustomed to having people around, and will often interact with visitors at the surface of the water. It’s not unusual to have koi beg for food or take food from a person’s hand. They also may tolerate some light handling. Koi ponds also provide some psychological benefits. The sound of the water can be soothing and relaxing. Sitting by the pond may help alleviate stress, as unwinding next to a pond and watching the fish swim by can help individuals decompress.

ARIES (March 21 to April 19) You might be upset about having to deal with problems that are no fault of your own. But you can turn the annoyance into an asset by showing how quickly and how well you can resolve them. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) The Bovine’s fondness for tidiness pays off when you untangle a situation that seems hopelessly snarled. You might later be surprised to learn who will be expressing his or her gratitude. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) Although you can tackle your assignment the way you prefer, it might be a good idea to at least ask for suggestions. Who knows? One or two might even turn out to be helpful. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) Make all the changes in your plans or proposals that you feel are necessary before -- repeat, before -- you submit them to your colleagues. You’ll come off looking more decisive that way. LEO (July 23 to August 22) You might feel a mite intimidated in a new environment, be it a job, a classroom or meeting the future in-laws. But enter with a big smile, and everyone will see you as a real takecharge Cat. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) This could be a romantic time for you if you can set aside your cynicism and let yourself believe that someone really cares. If you’re already in a relationship, expect your partner to be extra-loving. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) It’s a good time to shed any doubts about your abilities. You’ve proved yourself in the past, so why not accept that you’ll do just as well, or better, in dealing with the new challenge ahead? SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) Your suspicions might be on the mark, but unless you can prove what you assume, you need to exercise that Scorpion discretion and let events unfold without your assistance. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) Be careful not to go over the top this week. Avoid overeating (especially of the wrong foods), or drinking too much, or working too hard. You can do it all, but in moderation. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) A family matter is given to you to resolve because you have the gift for bringing quarrelsome kinfolk together. But while you’re playing Dr. Phil, don’t neglect your career obligations. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) Someone of importance shares your goals but disagrees with your plan to achieve them. Never mind. Defending your methods with logic and facts earns you admiration and respect. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) Consider getting away, perhaps for the weekend, despite all the demands made on your time and energies. You’ll return refreshed and ready to tackle it all with your usual finesse. BORN THIS WEEK: You have a sense of honesty that makes people believe and trust in you.( c) 2020 King Features Synd., Inc.

Sunday Service at the Drive-In By Amanda Dudek

W

hen official word came in March to reduce gatherings and finally to restrict them altogether while encouraging social distancing, churches across New York stopped holding in-person services both to comply with the restrictions and to safeguard the health of local neighborhoods. However, these church communities and their desire to serve others never stopped. For Old Paths Chapel of Perry, however, a help would come from an unexpected venue. "The heart of the ministry is to be able to serve people," said Jeff Guesno, senior pastor of Old Paths Chapel. "One of the greatest joys of being a pastor is encouraging people in the faith, and unfortunately, we had to stop holding services to keep in compliance with current laws and to ensure public safety which is a great priority to us, as well." Guesno and two other church leaders held a quiet prayer meeting at Old Paths Chapel. "I remember just asking the Lord, "How do we minister to the people when we are so isolated from them?'" recalled Guesno. Shortly after the meeting ended, he received an unexpected text from a member of the congregation. The man had a message for him. "He said he had a dream or vision that we contacted Silver Lake Drive-In and held service there," said Guesno. Taking this encouraging word on faith, Guesno contacted the owner of the Silver Lake Drive-In, Rick Stefanon, and was able to arrange a meeting with him for the following day. "He was thrilled with the idea!" stated Guesno. "Silver Lake Drive-In has gone above and beyond to make this happen both for our church and our community. Rick has always been very good to us. He employs some of our Pastor Jeff Guesno shares students at the Charcoal his Sunday message at the Corral," he added, referring to Silver Lake Drive-In in Perry! the church's Gilead School of Discipleship, a K-12 school which also holds a field day at the Charcoal Corral each year. Even though Rick Stefanon was certain the Silver Lake Drive-In could make a Drive-In service possible, it did take some adjustment. "We assured Rick that we would remain in compliance with the law for our testimony's sake, for his sake and for the community's sake," said Guesno. "We have parking attendants who monitor and make certain everyone remains in their vehicles. We are all isolated, yet we are together. We call those who attend our Drive-In service our 'isolation congregation!'" Old Paths Chapel held their first service on Sunday, March 22nd, and guests tuned their dials to 106.3 FM. They listened to worship songs as well as Pastor Guesno's message broadcast across the radio waves. "We counted about 125 vehicles that first Sunday and 40 more the following Sunday," said Guesno. "It gives people a great opportunity to get out of their homes and into a Christian environment while still abiding by what is asked of us. Only God could pull this off !" Those attending this drive-in service are also given the opportunity to support community needs. "We positioned some buckets on the way out for our members to support Old Paths

Chapel," shared Guesno. "We encourage those who visit to send their offerings to their local churches, pastors and ministries, especially during this time. We are just happy to serve them and meet this need." The drive-in services seem to be well-received. "People have really enjoyed it," shared Guesno. "Some people have said they will never forget this church service!" he recalled with a chuckle, as he noted that while this is unique and different, they are still simply doing what they believe God has asked them to do. "We are sharing God's word, the reference point of truth," Guesno explained. "It offers peace and hope, especially in this time of fear and anxiety." Old Paths Chapel plans to continue holding services at the Silver Lake Drive-In for the time being, including for Easter service. "Everyone is invited to join us at 11:00am, rain or shine; all are welcome," shared Guesno. "Our hope is that people would know that Jesus Christ loves them, died for them and will forgive them if they give Him their life. This is the message we will be faithful to share with others, now more than ever."

Personalize your connections. The days of sharing a post-work drink with a colleague may be over. But networking in the digital age need not be impersonal. When using professional networking sites such as LinkedIn, personalize the messages you send to other professionals when inviting them to join your network. Use the message to briefly introduce yourself and explain your connection before explaining why you want the person to become part of your network. Welcome any questions and warmly thank them for their time. This personal touch can make you stand out in a digital sea of people, many of whom simply want to add other professionals to their network without necessarily making genuine connections.

DID YOU KNOW? Nursing is one of the fastest-growing and longest-running occupations in the United States and Canada. The New England Hospital for Women and Children, established in 1862, was the first nursing school in the United States. The first formal nursing training program in Canada was established in 1874 at the General and Marine Hospital in St. Catharines, Ontario. The American Nurses Association was started in 1898. The Canadian Nurses’ Association, formerly the Canadian National Association of Trained Nurses, was developed in 1907. TAKE A CUE FROM SUCCESSFUL WOMEN Women had another successful year in 2015. According to the Fortune 500 list, 2015 tied the record set for the highest number of female CEOs in America’s largest companies by revenue. Twenty-four women, including Mary Barra of General Motors, Meg Whitman of Hewlett-Packard and Ginny Rometty of IBM, made the list. Although women make up 45 percent of the labor force and only 5 percent head Fortune 500 companies, women are making greater strides than ever before.
