DID YOU KNOW?
Leisure activities may be widely viewed as fun ways to fill up free time, but the benefits of leisure activities extend beyond beating boredom. A 2011 analysis published in the journal BBA Molecular Basis of Disease found that leisure activities have a positive impact on cognitive function and dementia. The analysis, conducted by researchers with the Aging Research Center in Stockholm who examined various studies regarding the relationship between certain activities and cognitive function, defined leisure activity as the voluntary use of free time for activities outside the home. After retirement, leisure time constitutes a large part of many retirees’ lives, and finding ways to fill that time is more beneficial than merely avoiding boredom. The researchers behind the study concluded that the existing research is insufficient to draw any firm conclusions regarding the effects of certain types of leisure activities on the risk for dementia and cognitive decline, though they did note that multi-domain cognitive training has the potential to improve cognitive function in healthy older adults and slow decline in affected individuals. A multi-domain approach to cognitive training involves memory, reasoning, problem-solving, and map reading, among other activities. Aging adults who embrace activities that require the use of such skills may find that they’re not only finding stimulating ways to fill their free time, but increasing their chances of long-term cognitive health as well.

NOW HERE’S A TIP By JoAnn Derson
NEW PATIENTS
* Earth Day got me thinking about how many plastic bottled beverages my family goes through. I have found six glass reusable bottles that can be run through the dishwasher, and I store them in the refrigerator in a cardboard six-pack holder. I still want the convenience of grabbing a bottle of water from the fridge, but I feel better knowing that I’m not contributing to a plastic problem.” -- JoAnn
We Welcome You! PREVENTATIVE • RESTORATIVE • IMPLANTS SAME DAY CROWNS • EXTRACTIONS Servicing your dental needs in a safe and relaxing environment.
Family-friendly dentistry in the heart of Downtown Batavia!
* Using ice-cold sour cream instead of ice-cold water in your pie crust recipe will give you a flakier crust.
Dr. Adam Gregor
* “If you love to burn candles as much as I do, consider storing them in the refrigerator for a day or so before burning them. I swear, it makes them burn evenly. Someone told me this once, and I tried it and have been doing it ever since. No more crooked candles.” -- J.L. in Tennessee
D.D.S.

* When traveling for more than a few days, stick your plants into the bathtub with a little bit of water. They’ll soak it up, and you won’t have to have someone come over and water your plants. This will only work for a week at most, though.” -- J.M. in Louisiana * Kitchen remodels can be expensive, but when your kitchen isn’t usable, that’s even more of an expense. Instead of opting for takeout food, set up an alternate kitchen to save money. A microwave, toaster oven, coffee pot and a small dorm-style fridge can take care of a lot of your needs in the short term. * Planning on putting in some new plants or sprucing up your garden this spring? Check with your town’s yard-waste recycling center about free mulch or compost. Many facilities offer these to their residents. GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

DID YOU KNOW? Choking is a leading cause of unintentional death in infants. Young children not can choke on food as well as objects they put in their mouths while exploring the world around them. Parents of young children and hosts who intend to invite youngsters into their homes can learn how to respond when kids appear to be choking. The Mayo Clinic recommends the following approach when tending to children under the age of 1, which differs from the steps necessary to address choking instances in older children and adults. · Assume a seated position and hold the infant facedown on your forearm, which is resting on your thigh. Support the infant’s head and neck with your hand, and place the head lower than the trunk. · Thump the infant gently but firmly five times on the middle of the back using the heel of your hand. The combination of gravity and the back blows should release the blocking object. Keep your fingers pointed up to avoid hitting the infant in the back of the head. · Turn the infant face up on your forearm, resting on your thigh with the head lower than the trunk if the infant still isn’t breathing. Using two fingers placed at the center of the infant’s breastbone, give five quick chest compressions. Press down about 11/2 inches, and let the chest rise again in between each compression. · Repeat the back blows and chest thrusts if breathing doesn’t resume. Call for emergency medical help. · Begin infant CPR if one of these techniques opens the airway but the infant doesn’t resume breathing.

OVER 15 YEARS EXPERIENCE TYPES OF FIREPITS FOR YOUR BACKYARD OASIS Gas firepit: Gas firepits are touted for their convenience, as they don’t require homeowners to carry wood and build fires. Upon being connected to a gas source, gas firepits provide fire at the click of a switch. Gas firepits are also appreciated for their safety, as there is little or no risk that flames from gas firepits will grow too large and become difficult to control.

TAKING THE PAIN OUT OF LIVE EVENT MANAGEMENT
NYS licensed pesticide applicator
REEL TURF LAWNCARE GREG @ 585-664-0944
(NAPSI)—Anyone involved in running a theater, festival, or a sporting or live music event knows all too well the difficulty of doing it on your own. Some event managers turn to third parties like Eventbrite or Ticketmaster to get help with critical ticket sales, but one of the biggest pain points is finding an effective ticketing solution that supports their brand. When ticketing, marketing, fundraising and donation activities are not synchronized, event managers spend more time managing their business rather than the event itself. This leads to lost profits and angry patrons. Rick Blair, co-founder of Artisan Center Theater in Hurst, TX, went through years of trying different ticket brokers to increase sales, but was put off by the high fees and lack of personal attention. He also found that the solutions he tried did not work well with his other tools. “I had separate platforms for ticketing, marketing, website updates and donor management. None of them talked to each other and the entire process was a mess,” he said. Two years ago, he discovered the Vendini ticketing platform. Now the theater has an all-in-one system to handle VIP alerts and online, mobile and box office ticket sales that integrates with e-mail, social and direct marketing. By using Vendini’s Patron Connect, Blair and his team are notified when a donor is coming to the show and where they will be sitting. “When I get the alert, I can rush to my office, write a thank-you card, and slip it onto the donor’s seat before they arrive. That has resulted in many new donations because everyone appreciates a personal touch. Patron Connect is one of my most powerful marketing tools.” Vendini makes event execution simpler and faster. Event managers can create an event, specify dates and times, set pricing, and start selling tickets in minutes. Vendini’s live event management software helps managers like Blair run events more easily and effectively. Learn More: For more information, go to www.vendini.com.

President Woodrow Wilson made Mother’s Day an official holiday in 1914. After he was persuaded by Anna Jarvis, President Woodrow Wilson officially declared that the second Sunday of every May would be Mother’s Day. In his first Mother’s Day proclamation, Wilson stated that the holiday offered a chance to “[publicly express] our love and reverence for the mothers of our country,” according to History.com. 585-548-7329 PET OBESITY IS A GROWING PROBLEM Many pet owners would never intentionally harm their companion animals. In fact, pet owners often go above and beyond to ensure their animals are well cared for and content. However, many well-meaning people may be inadvertently harming their pets with something they provide each and every day: food. Obesity is on the rise among pets. The Association for Pet Obesity Prevention says that 54 percent of dogs and 59 percent of cats in the United States were categorized as overweight or obese in 2016. That marks an increase from 52.5 percent and 58.3 percent, respectively, from four years ago. The majority of veterinarians think that pet obesity is a significant problem and nearly half of pet owners admit that their vets have discussed a pet’s ideal weight with them during pet health visits.

DEAR HANNAH: I’m really sorry that happened to Sara and you, and you’re doing the right thing by taking her at uncrowded times. Overcrowded parks, resource-guarding and aggressively playful dogs can make it a negative experience. Dog parks are a community resource, and it’s important for dog owners to work together to make the park work. Find out if there’s a volunteer committee for your particular park. If not, and you want to keep using the dog park, consider forming a group to address behavior and other issues. Send your questions, tips and comments to ask@pawscorner. com.
570 E. Main Street Batavia, NY 14020 GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER
DEAR PAW’S CORNER: When I first adopted my Collie mix “Sara,” I went to the dog park near my apartment every morning. I thought it would be a great place for a year-old puppy to socialize with other dogs and humans. A year later, I no longer take her to the dog park if there are any other dogs there -- which means taking pre-dawn walks or bypassing the park entirely. I quickly learned that while many dog owners are responsible people who train and socialize their dogs, others don’t train them at all, or train them inadequately. On Sara’s first day, a huge dog ran up, snarling and barking at both of us. The dog’s owner just sat on a bench, waving and yelling, “He’s friendly,” while Sara cowered behind my legs. A few days later, that same dog got in a vicious fight with two other dogs. Because we continued to have negative experiences with other dogs (and their owners), making it impossible to train and socialize Sara, I’ve stopped going there. I don’t think dog parks are a great idea anymore, even though I live in an urban area and green spaces are important for dogs. What’s your take? -- Hannah J. in Boston

Happy Mother’s Day! 9 Global Traditions Inspire Us as We Celebrate Mom BY MAKAYLA HOLLIMAN & ELIJAH ROBINSON
I
t’s that time again! Mother’s Day is the perfect opportunity to make the mothers in your life feel special, loved, and respected—especially our own mothers who loved us first and continue to love us with unwavering faith. Mother’s Day D is a big event in the United States, but did you know many countries around the world also set aside a special time to celebrate mothers? We gathered fun and unique Mother’s Day traditions from nine countries around the globe, and we hope you find something new to add to your Mother’s Day celebrations!
France
Mother’s Day, “Fête des Mères,” occurs on the last Sunday of May or the first Sunday of June. Fête des Mères originated during the Napoleonic era during which families with a large number of children were presented with medals as part of an effort to promote large families and curb low birth rates. Some parts of France still honor this tradition and present moms with medals on Mother’s Day, known as Médaille de la Famille. It is customary to make a bouquet cake for mom, followed by a family dinner. Children typically give flowers, jewelry, perfumes, handmade gifts, handwritten poems, and chocolates as presents.
Germany
Mother’s Day, celebrated on the second Sunday of May, is known as Muttertag and was first celebrated in 1922. Here, celebrating mothers extends further than the women of the house; it pays tribute to the mothers of the universe. Carried out with a high degree of pomp and circumstance, this day sees children give their moms gifts and cards, red carnations celebrating mothers who are alive, and white carnations honoring mothers who have passed away. Surprises are common, and travel tickets are a traditional present. The family also makes a homemade dinner to give mom a break.
Ethiopia
Ethiopia holds its celebration of mothers in the early fall and hosts festivals that honor its religion. Ethiopia holds a festival called “Antrosht” which is dedicated only to moms. Families come together for large meals and celebrations. Daughters bring vegetables and cheese while sons bring meat, prepare meat hash, and stage performances featuring their family heroes.
India
Like Ethiopia, India also holds its celebration of mothers in the early fall and hosts festivals that honor its religion. In India, this celebration lasts for 10 days. Hindus honor Durga, the goddess of mothers, at the Durga Puja festival. This religious ceremony hosts family reunions centered around the traditional story of how Durga returns to her parents to show her own children off to them. The festivities continue with making food, giving gifts and decorating homes.
Italy
In Italy, mothers are honored on “La Festa della Mamma,” observed the second Sunday of May. The mother is regarded as the most important person in the family, and children must call if they cannot come home that day. While she is honored year-round, on this day, she is pampered from dawn to dusk. Small presents, roses, and handwritten poetry are popular gifts, while cards are not commonly given. Lunch is eaten out to give moms a break, and

at the end of the day, mothers receive a heart-shaped cake made for them by their children.
Japan
Japan’s customs for Mother’s Day are entirely different. Here, the holiday was revived after World War II and was used to console mothers who had lost children during the war. Today, Mother’s Day is observed on the second Sunday of May with red or pink carnations as well as help with chores and cooking. Japanese families make traditional Tamagoyaki or Chawanmushi dishes, while children make handmade gifts or portraits for their mothers.
Mexico
In Mexico, Mother’s Day—“La Dia de la Madre”—is celebrated on May 10th. Each year, women are celebrated with mariachi serenades, special mass services, and children’s performances. They are also treated out to lunches and dinners. No matter what day May 10th falls on, Mexican families always make time to celebrate their mothers.
Peru
One of Peru’s most important events, Mother’s Day, is celebrated for an entire week with much anticipation leading up to the second Sunday of May. This celebration honors not only mothers, but all the women in the home. Families organize lunches, dinners, parties and trips throughout the week, and children prepare events and festivities. Mothers are given the opportunity to visit exhibits, museums, and festivals for free. They are also read poetry and stories, given gifts, flowers, and treats, served dinner, and entertained by their children. Peruvian families also visit cemeteries to honor their dearly departed mothers and grandmothers, bringing flowers, balloons, and other salutations for the graves. No mother is forgotten in this showing of appreciation for a mother’s love and sacrifice.
United Kingdom
British families hold Mother’s Day, referred to as Mothering Sunday, on the 4th Sunday of Lent. Dating back to the 1600s, England was the first country in the world to create a holiday specifically for celebrating mothers. Shifting away from its historic roots as a day of showing respect to one’s “mother church,” Mothering Sunday increasingly centered around celebrating moms across Britain. Flowers are the most popular gifts, and the most common types of flowers children give their mothers are roses, carnations, and chrysanthemums. It is also traditional to give mum a rich almond cake called ‘Mothering Cake’ or ‘Simnel Cake.’

INNOVATIVE SCHOOL IS A TRAINING GROUND FOR ARTISTS (NAPSI)—Art classes have slowly but steadily all but disappeared from public schools over the years. Lack of funding has been the culprit, but educators tend to agree that the arts play a crucial role in the academic and creative development of our children. One public school in Greenville, South Carolina is embracing a different model and provides a haven for young artists from across the state to discover, develop and hone their talents. The South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities offers preprofessional training to its students in the areas of creative writing, dance, drama, music, and visual arts. As a public, residential high school serving juniors and seniors, it helps students refine their talents in a master-apprentice community while receiving nationally recognized academic education. The Governor’s School also serves as a resource to all teachers and students in South Carolina, offering comprehensive outreach programs designed to bring together artists, educators, community organizations, and schools. The school is supported by its own foundation—The South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities Foundation—by raising revenues to bridge the gap between funds provided to the school through government appropriation and the actual cost of the educational opportunities the school provides to its students. This extraordinary school recently captured the attention of Ovation TV, a cable and digital channel that is dedicated to the arts. Ovation and local cable provider Spectrum acknowledged the school’s contributions to the community and innovative approach to arts education and skills development with a $10,000 award via its Stand for the Arts arts advocacy initiative. SC Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities’ success provides a great lesson for communities across the country looking to support the arts and encourage the creative development of their youth. Refresh Your Home for Spring Eliminate the extras While you’re freshening up the house, it’s the perfect time to purge unwanted and unused items, but remember that items in good condition can actually do good for those in need. By donating clothing, electronics, furniture, household goods and vehicles to be sold in The Salvation Army Family and Thrift Stores, you can help transform lives in your local community. A good rule of thumb: if you haven’t used it in the last year and it doesn’t have special sentimental value, it’s probably time to let it go.

MOTHER’S DAY CELEBRATION IDEAS The Reader A 2017 survey from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics found that women read more than men. Women read an average of 19.8 minutes per day, which can make a Mother’s Day focused on Mom’s love of books an ideal and unique way to spend the day. Kids can write Mom their own books, and Dad can help put them together. Dads can visit rare bookstores and look for original copies of Mom’s favorite books that she might not find elsewhere. If Broadway is a bit too far for you to travel, do your homework and find a traveling production of a former Broadway show. Such productions often feature many of the same actors who made the play famous on Broadway so you’re still bound to see an unforgettable show Mom will love.

WEDDING REGISTRY TIPS Don’t hesitate to include expensive items on your registry. Couples also may be hesitant to include especially expensive items on their wedding registries. However, the couples’ parents and other close relatives may be honored to purchase more expensive items, so couples should not feel embarrassed to include them on their lists. It’s also important to note that many retailers, after couples’ wedding days have come and gone, discount registry items that weren’t purchased. So even if no one purchases the more expensive items, including them on a registry may significantly reduce their cost for couples who want to buy such items themselves after tying the knot.

SENIOR NEWS By Matilda Charles What Lured Us Back to the Senior Center? The too-young staffers at the senior center finally figured out that we’re not coming back until COVID is gone. And it’s not gone. In some areas it’s easing up a bit, but here it’s still going strong. We’re not willing to risk contagion by dashing in the door of the senior center and pretending things are back to normal. At least once a week the center sends out emails and gets few replies in response. Come to the Ladies Lunch served indoors? No thanks. Experiment with still life photography in the meeting room, with vases, statuettes and fruit provided? No. We held out, refusing as a group to be party to any potential COVID-spreading indoor activity. Finally, the staff got it. They went with videos. The art classes will be online. The book club will have an online discussion, with a link to how to log in to the meeting. And the exercise classes will be posted online so everyone can stretch and work out at home. But it was the offer of free haircuts that broke our resolve. Some of us haven’t been in a salon for two years. The rules were specific. Stay in our car until we were handed an at-home COVID test, which we would take in the car. If it proved to be negative, we could proceed to the next step (one person at a time), which was to sit on a chair in the hall inside the right-side door of the center and wait for our turn. When the person ahead of us was finished (down the hall in the kitchen), she would be escorted out the left-side door to the parking lot. It was glorious. We each came out of the left-side door with a spring in our step, freshly relieved of two years of unruly hair. Staff should have thought of this before.
This week’s puzzle answer is elsewhere in this paper. The Crossword Puzzle is provided by Tribune Media Services. Any questions or comments should be made to 1-800-346-8798.

S E V RA Guiding Light Mom, thank you for always being there for me and guiding me through life. Love you so much! Loving Memory Although you’re no longer around for me to share the day with you, I think of you every day and thank you for being the best mom that a son could have! - Dan M Selfless Love Mom, your selfless love, kindness, generosity, and Godly example have always been an inspiration to me and have shaped who I am today. Thank you, and I love you! - Amanda D. Grateful Dog Thank you soooo much to the wonderful people, a Husband and Wife in a tan colored SUV, and to the woman in the white Honda who took immediate action when they saw me running down the road, trying to catch my dog. These super folks took time to try blocking my dog, then to pull their cars over, chase, and catch my dog. His invisible fence collar has a new battery in it, and it will be on him before he slips out his dog door again. Thank you! - Anna Animal Hospital Praises A huge thanks goes out to Dr. Chris and Megan! Our furry friend slipped a disk in his back late in the afternoon on April 4th. We called York Animal Hospital, and Dr. Chris was leaving within the hour. She was in the emergency care units and told us to get there ASAP. When we arrived, Dr. Chris and Megan were waiting for us. We are now in the third week, and our furry friend is improving every day, taking two steps on April 22nd. A huge thank you to Dr. Chris and Megan, and of course, to the rest of the staff for our regular weekly visits. It's going to be a long road, but we appreciate their concern, service, and all they do for us and others. God bless you all!

Recycling It's pretty sad when you call [local town] Code Enforcement, [local town] Hall, and [others] to find a solution to businesses not recycling, and you pretty much get an answer of "Oh well." No one seems to know or care. So as all these cans, glass, and junk get thrown onto the ground, remember, you have children and grandchildren who have to live on this dirty earth. Why can't people just do the right thing?
Enough already! Am I the only one who’s sick of businesses, companies, services, and retailers overusing the excuse of COVID? Most of these are still trying to increase profits even though supply, laborers, and inflation are affecting all of us. Some still allow personnel to work from home which leaves fewer people to actually provide services to customers. Eliminate the government “freebies” to force people to actually work for their money. Stop giving free money to renters and get them back to work. Quit stealing from the taxpayers and get us back to where we were. The COVID excuse being made is just that: an excuse! Not a Drag Strip! Moving to this beautiful town over 10 years ago was the best decision my family could have made. It’s such a beautiful town with friendly neighbors. However, we couldn’t be more upset with the way most of the younger generations use [local street] in [local town] as a “drag strip." Living on this street is absolutely beautiful, and the 30 miles a hour limit should be enforced. There are many that hit the stop sign on center and then use the straight away as if it’s 390 in a 65mph zone. It’s 30mph or slower. Please slow down. There are autistic children that live in this area as well as family pets. Let’s be safe and slow down. Tomorrows are never guaranteed. We would hate to see something happen to children, walkers, runners, family pets, etc. Slow it down, please!

THE EFFECTS OF STRESS ON YOUR BODY Mental side effects Stress can have an adverse effect on mood and has even been linked to depression, which the World Health Organization reports is the leading cause of disability across the globe. People suffering from stress also may experience anxiety, restlessness and feelings of being overwhelmed. In addition, stress can compromise a person’s ability to focus, adversely affecting a person’s ability to complete their work-related tasks. That’s not insignificant, as 61 percent of respondents in the 2017 “Stress in America” survey reported that work was a significant source of their stress.

We Care About
Your Smiles by Dr. Steve Sokolovskiy
CROWNS: NOT JUST FOR ROYALS Dental crowns, caps made of porcelain or porcelain fused to metal, are used in dentistry to correct irregularly shaped, chipped, or cracked teeth, provide reinforcement following a root canal, or replace missing or failing teeth. Crowns are customized to fit the patient’s tooth and tinted to match the color of other teeth. Requiring two appointments, crowns are permanently affixed to the tooth. Impressions of the teeth are first taken to ensure an exact fit, then the impression molds are sent to a dental lab to create the crown. A patient returns for final crown placement and permanent bonding to the existing tooth. Visiting a dental health professional can determine if a crown is the best possible solution for tooth restoration.
Crowns are one of the many options available today to change the look of your teeth. Don’t hide your smile behind a lack of information. At BATAVIA FAMILY DENTAL, we want our patients to be comfortable not only with the function of their teeth, but also with the appearance of their smile, and a consultation at our office is an excellent opportunity to discover your dental alternatives. New patients are always welcome here at 6 Batavia City Centre. For an appointment, please call us at 585.343.4246. We’ll give you a reason to smile! P.S. Dr. Charles Land introduced the all-porcelain jacket crown in 1903. It is the first rendition of the dental crown used today.

DEAR DR. ROACH: I picked up a cough while traveling in Europe more than two years ago. No other symptoms have ever presented. Since that time, I have received every test imaginable, including spirometry, multiple breathing tests, CT scans, X-rays and most recently a bronchoscopy. Nothing was discovered through any of these tests. Other than the cough, I am very healthy. The cough is driving me crazy, however. I have been prescribed every type of medication, and nothing helps. My doctors are at a standstill and have nothing further to offer. I don’t know where to go from here, but I know I can’t live my life with this cough. I avoid a lot of personal interaction because it is so disruptive to constantly be coughing. I would greatly appreciate your help with this, and any advice regarding what steps need to be taken next. -- P.M. ANSWER: Chronic cough (lasting more than several months) is most frequently a result of acid reflux, asthma or postnasal drip, although there are many more causes, including infection, which would be a concern given that you have a clear idea of when it started. Despite an extensive evaluation for cough, it is not that uncommon that people are left with no explanation but with a persistent cough. There are other, less-common treatments at this point, some of which your doctors might not have tried. The first is the medication gabapentin (Neurontin). This is used for a condition called laryngeal neuropathy, and I have had a few spectacular cases where the cough disappears entirely. People have written saying that their doctor prescribed the medication for them after reading it in the column and they also had relief, even after decades of persistent coughing, so I think this condition may be more common than I have ever thought. A second has been a cough suppressant. I am very cautious about using opiate drugs, and it is certainly not appropriate for some people, but cautious use of tramadol in selected patients has been successful in reducing, but not eliminating, cough. Just yesterday in the clinic, one of the residents I supervise had a patient with chronic cough who had dramatic improvement through the use of speech therapy. Looking it up today, I find trials showing significant improvement, if modest, with this approach, as well as several ongoing trials. Given the potential side effects of gabapentin and tramadol, I think I will be making more referrals to my speech and language pathology colleagues, and suggest you speak with your doctors about some of these options. *** Dr. Roach regrets that he is unable to answer individual questions, but will incorporate them in the column whenever possible. DID YOU KNOW? According to the National Autism Association, autism is a bio-neurological developmental disability that affects the normal development of the brain in various areas. Those areas include social interaction, communication skills and cognitive function. Autism generally appears before a child reaches his or her third birthday, and the NAA notes it is diagnosed four times as often in boys than it is in girls. Roughly 40 percent of children with autism do not speak, but parents whose children speak between the ages of 12 and 18 months should know that such youngsters can still ultimately be diagnosed with autism. In such instances, the NAA notes that children lose the words they previously learned. Incidences of autism appear to be on the rise, though the reasons for that remain unclear. According to a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the prevalence of autism had risen to one in every 59 children by 2018. That’s twice as great as the rate in 2004, when the CDC reported one in 125 children were diagnosed with autism.

BE SAFE, HEALTHY AND HAPPY IN THE WORKPLACE WHILE PREGNANT While pregnancy is a natural occurrence and one female bodies can accommodate, in some instances, work requirements may threaten the safety or the health of the fetus. Therefore, employers are under a duty to accommodate female workers who may need to modify their duties due to their pregnancies. This can be a collaborative discussion, with both the employer and employee coming to a solution that works best for them. It is the employer’s responsibility to accommodate pregnant employees by removing barriers that may limit those employees’ ability to do their jobs. Each instance should be looked at individually.
