DID YOU KNOW?

Pizza continues to remain a popular comfort food and go-to staple for quick, family-friendly meals. Statistics Brain reports that 93 percent of Americans eat at least one piece of pizza per month. Five billion pizzas are sold worldwide each year, and the United States accounts for three billion of those pizzas. The average person will eat 46 slices of pizza each year. The world can thank Raffaele Esposito for creating the first pizza that resembled the pizza the world knows today. Esposito created the pizza for Italy’s Queen Margherita when she visited Naples in 1889. The crust was garnished with tomatoes, mozzarella and basil to represent the national colors of Italy: red, white and green.

WHAT TO KNOW WHEN BUYING FROM A PRIVATE SELLER

Confirm the number of owners. There’s no magic number of owners a vehicle can have before it’s considered too risky to buy, but the more owners a car has had, the less likely buyers will learn its full history. In addition, if sellers were not the first owners, they won’t know how the car was treated or driven prior to them buying it. That’s another potential red flag to consider before buying a car that has had more than one owner.

Pet

Is A Growing Problem

ThePurinaPetCareCenterfound that overweight pets may live two years less than ideal weight pets. Reduced life span is not the only problem, as carrying extra pounds can contribute to various maladies. These include osteoarthritis and poor joint health, type 2 diabetes, ligament injuries, heart and respiratory disease, kidney disease, and cancer.

My Filling Is Missing To Your Good Health

Fillings can fall out for several reasons, including tooth decay, tooth trauma, teeth grinding, and chewing on something hard. A missing filling should be fixed by a dentist as soon as possible to avoid further decay in the affected tooth. Keep the filling, if possible, because the dentist may be able to reattach it. Swish your mouth with saltwater frequently to reduce bacteria, which contributes to tooth decay. Try to chew food on the other side of your mouth to keep food debris out of the affected tooth. Continue to clean, brush, and floss the tooth as you would normally, but do it gently. If you’re in pain, try taking a nonprescription NSAID to reduce pain and inflammation.

Whether you are in our office for repairs of a missing filling, a smile makeover, or for a simple cleaning, our personal, casual, and relaxed style in providing quality dental care will help put you at ease. We’ll take the time to get to know your needs, answer questions about home care of any dental issues, tell you about the latest techniques and materials, and make sure that you are comfortable. Find out just how pleasant a visit to thedentist andenhancingyoursmile can be—call us at BATAVIA FAMILY DENTAL, 585.343.4246. Complete family dental care is available at 6 Batavia City Centre. We accept most insurances. www.bataviafamilydental.com

P.S. While not always a dental emergency, a lost filling should be replaced within a few days to avoid damage and decay to the unprotected tooth.

Do you have HEEL pain or ARCH pain?

HEEL SPUR SYNDROME/PLANTAR FASCIITIS is a common problem among people who are active. It starts as a dull intermittent pain in the heel and progresses to a sharp persistent pain. Classically, it is worse in the morning with the rst few steps, after sitting, after standing or after walking.

• Plantar fasciitis often begins with irritation and tearing of the brous band of tissue on the bottom of the foot, which may eventually result in the formation of a heel spur.

• Contributing factors: Flat pronated feet, high arched feet, poor shoe support, increase age, sudden weight increase, increased activity level, family tendency.

• 95% of our patients’ symptoms are resolved with conservative treatment, avoiding surgical intervention.

• We also o er surgical procedures with the best post op success rates using Endoscopic Plantar Fasciotomy techniques (minimal incisions and scarring; often back in a shoe in 1 week).
