Tires often produce w arning signs that a flat or blow out is about to em erge, so drivers w ho w ant to avoid such unfortunate developm ents can inspect their tires for the follow ing signs. • Varying w ear: Tires should exhibit the sam e type of w ear. The w ear on front tires and back tires m ay differ, but one front tire should have the sam e am ount of w ear as the other and the sam e goes for the back tires. Uneven tread on tires indicates that the tire w ith m ore w ear could be about to go out. • Worn tread: Em ploy the quarter test. Insert a quarter into the tread of the tire, w ith George Washington’s head upright. If you can see the hairline of the United States’ first president, then you need to replace the tire. Perform this test on each of your vehicle’s four tires. • Low pressure: M ake sure their tires are at the m anufacturerrecom m ended pressure, w hich can be found in a vehicle ow ner’s m anual or by calling the tire m anufacturer or visiting their w ebsite. An under inflated tire is under stress that can cause the tire to blow out. • Vibration: A car that vibrates excessively m ay do so because tires are dam aged. Whatever is behind a car that is vibrating, drivers should im m ediately take the car to their m echanic for an inspection. • Physical damage to the tire: Som etim es tires exhibit physical dam age like bulges or cuts, and such signs could m ean a flat tire or blow out is just around the corner.

ACCLIMATING TO A NEW NEIGHBORHOOD For a number of people, this may be the year they relocate to a new home or apartment. The moving rate in the United States has remained steady since 2008, with roughly 12 percent of the population relocating each year according to reports from the U.S. Census Bureau. Movement to the suburbs continues to be high, and renters tend to move more frequently than others. People who move cite a new job or a job transfer as one of the primary motivators to relocate. Acclimating to a new home and neighborhood after a move can be challenging. Even after boxes have been unpacked and items put away, some people still feel unsettled. It could be because one of the most important parts of being in a new house is feeling at home. That involves meeting neighbors, having friends over for dinner and knowing all of the local haunts that help solidify a homeowner as a true member of his or her new neighborhood. It can take time to establish feeings of belonging.

remember it. - A happy Byron customer
Thank you to the two young men from TrashAway. My garage door weighs over 100 pounds and was off its track. These two young men offered to fix it and spent at least thirty minutes doing it. I was able to get my rider out of the garage; no more raking! Your kindness is totally appreciated! I will always Regarding the Big Blue Boxes - I wanted to pick up an item and asked if I could 4 hours early. I was told they would try. I called an hour before I was coming, and I was told they would help me and get it for me. I got there and punched in the number. The lady had a complaining attitude about their business and a scowl on her face. She questioned whether I tracked it right, questioned if it was my right name. I answered of course to both questions. It took her less than five minutes to get it for me, yet she continued to kind of scold me. When I was in retail, I did things with a smile and went an extra mile. Yes, I will wait for email next time instead of being treated like this. I only did this this time because I wasn’t sure if I would be able to pick up during the rest of week. I will still shop there, but I hope there won’t be a repeat of this.

I want to thank all the wonderful people who helped me when I had a seizure in the fitting room at Kohl’s in Victor on November 1st. Coming out of a seizure with so many kind, caring people around me was so comforting and heartwarming. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get anyone’s name, so I am writing this here to say thank you all so very much! The only thing good about having a seizure in public is finding out how many kind, caring people there are in this world. In response to a brief rant about respect: a person can’t demand respect from others. Respect must be earned. Some ways respect can be earned is by how the person treats others. Treat people the way you would want to be treated. A simple smile and a hello are a good starting place. Usually, I find that those who have a lot to say about respect oddly enough don’t show respect to others. Look for ways to be kind and considerate to others, and respect will usually follow. No one respects someone who is always going out of their way to act ugly. Even if the other party is not respectful towards you, I always find that being gracious and conducting oneself with dignity at least makes one able to get a good night’s sleep and makes for a happier person overall.

Thank you to the manager and staff who helped locate the friends I was shopping with. Also, a big thank you the NYS Trooper and the Fishers Fire Department for their quick response and great care. Catherine C. A big thank you goes out to the Avon Dental in Tops Plaza, Avon. Dr. ZembiecWheeler and the staff at Avon Dental responded to an emergency request to replace a destroyed crown that I incurred. With a trip to Florida pending in two weeks, a mishap shattered a crown. My regular dentist was going on vacation and unable to respond in the time frame. It’s not easy getting our dog to their location, and on the proposed second appointment, my wife called to confirm. We were told, “Sorry, we don’t have you for tomorrow.” Sorry, chain store and your inept employees, but you lost my business. Shop local, folks, and forget the chains. The Chain Gang - lousy service, uncaring employees and a cancer to small independent businesses. The professionalism demonstrated by this organization is second to none. From the time I walked in until the time I walked out, I could see these people care! same frustration when he sees a car speeding or parking in a “no parking” zone. I’ve witnessed numerous drivers rolling through intersections without coming to a complete stop. I’ve seen drivers opening car doors without looking, causing law-abiding cyclists to crash into their open doors. Is the previous writer equally disturbed by these things? It seems to me that many motorists are annoyed at lawbreaking only when it involves cyclists. My point is that traffic participants, regardless of which mode of transportation is being used, should be following the law and be observant of others. Being careful and respecting everyone’s rights on the road prevents crashes and saves lives.

FLU-FIGHTING TIPS: Annual flu shots administered in advance of flu season can help protect people and their families from getting the flu. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says that, in select situations, antiviral medications - which are usually prescribed to treat the flu and lessen symptoms - can reduce the chance of illness in people exposed to influenza. Many over-the-counter medicines can alleviate symptoms of the flu, but cannot fend it off.

Dansville’s Bonnie Sisak Retires from Noyes Auxiliary By Amanda Dudek
B
onnie Sisak has been involved in the Noyes Auxiliary for many years, including several years as its president, chairing its second largest fund-raiser, the Chip in Fore Noyes Golf Classic Tournament for 12 years. Sisak played a key role in the event’s record of success. A beloved business teacher before working for Noyes Memorial Hospital, Sisak was also the secretary to the Vice President of Patient Care Services. Those who have worked with her such as Amy Pollard, the President and CEO of UR Medicine Noyes Health and Mary Ann Scharmberg, current Noyes Auxiliary President, have described Sisak as a wonderful leader, a person of integrity, honest, disciplined, organized, detail oriented with a commitment to working and a very friendly person with a good sense of humor. “Bonnie loved her community and has a very giving spirit,” said Pollard. “She was very good at cajoling volunteers into participating.” Her tireless efforts showed particularly well in the annual golf tournament which never made less than $10,000 in the 12 years that Sisak organized it, totaling just over $15,000 this year and nearly $150,000 overall. “It has become very successful with the help of a lot of people,” said Sisak sincerely. “There are many employees in the hospital who help. I tried to make the whole tournament a project in which a lot of people could participate so that they would share the success of the project.” “Noyes has a large and committed group of volunteers who make up Noyes Health Auxiliary,” said Pollard. “Noyes is incredibly blessed to have such a supportive community.” Scharmberg concurred. “It is all volunteers from our organization who do these fund-raisers,” she said. “People from the Dansville area and surrounding communities are stupendous in giving, and every bit goes to the hospital.” Perhaps the largest contribution in which Sisak was involved was the Auxiliary’s recent contribution of $305,500 to Noyes Memorial Hospital which funded the new Mary Saunders Bierman Emergency Department including the reception area, furniture and patient rooms. “We make pledges to the hospital, and the biggest pledge was for $305,500,” said Scharmberg. “We pledged that 5 years ago when Bonnie Sisak was president, and we have accomplished it.” “The members of the Auxiliary believe in the importance of Noyes to Dansville, the county and the surrounding area,” said Sisak. “That is why they are willing to donate their time. We try to do things that are patient or visitor centered.” This month, Bonnie Sisak retired from the Auxiliary when she and her husband, George, moved out-of-state. Sisak said she will miss Noyes wonderful volunteers and employees the most. “Our community is going to miss her,” said Pollard of the Lioness and Women’s Civic

Club member. “I am sure she will continue to volunteer because it is in her nature. For us, it is definitely the end of an era.” “It has been marvelous,” agreed Scharmberg. In fact, at Scharmberg’s request, Sisak created an instruction manual (14 pages) on the golf tournament alone. “You look at it and you go, I can’t believe she did all this by herself. It is something else!” Although they will miss her, the Noyes Auxiliary members will continue on with their various fund-raisers, including their largest: The Spice Box. The Spice Box gift shop complete with coffee bar is inside of Noyes Memorial Hospital. “People come to The Spice Box to browse and shop, not just for our patients,” said Scharmberg. “We have items for nurses, firemen, children and babies and popular items like our jewelry and Willow Tree figurines.” The Auxiliary also holds other events throughout the year. “Our next events will be our Craft Boutique at which many beautiful items will be available for purchase and our Tree of Lights event,” shared Scharmberg. “Anyone can purchase a beautiful angel ornament to honor a loved one or in memory of a loved one; that loved one’s name is put on it, and it is placed on one of our three trees here or on our tree in Geneseo.” The Auxiliary also holds a flower sale just before Mother’s Day in the Spring. The Auxiliary grants multiple scholarships each year. “We set aside $5,000 each year for young people interested in the medical field, and the students this year were absolutely magnificent,” recalled Scharmberg. “Each one of them said they wanted to return to their hometown area to practice, and I thought that was extremely generous.” The Auxiliary also awards three $100 scholarships annually to three students from the Genesee Valley Health Academy, as well. Currently, the Auxiliary is working to raise money for a portable X-ray unit and charging stations for visitors who come to the hospitals so that they can charge their cellphones and devices. Pollard, Scharmberg and Sisak encourage community members to consider joining them. “We could always use volunteers in The Spice Box and our other events and activities,” said Scharmberg. Sisak agreed, “Noyes is a gem in the Valley, and it needs our support.” Enjoy this article? These Behaviors Make You A Scam Target
Monday: Closed for Veterans’ Day
(NAPS)—If you spend a lot of time on social media sites or looking for great online deals, you may wear a bullseye when it comes to scammers hunting for prey, according to groundbreaking fraud research from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Investor Education Foundation, BBB Institute for Marketplace Trust and the Stanford Center on Longevity. Researchers surveyed more than 1,400 Americans and Canadians who were targeted by scammers and reported the fraud to the Better Business Bureau (BBB), which tracks scams. Nearly half of those surveyed did not engage with the fraudster. However, 30 percent engaged to some degree but ultimately did not lose money, while 23 percent engaged with the fraudster or offer and lost money. What separates victims from non-victims? “The path to victimization begins with engagement,” said FINRA Foundation President Gerri Walsh. “Social media and website scams are flourishing. Every time you respond to a friend request from someone you don’t know or click through to an unfamiliar website, you run the risk of being exposed to a scam.”

Your chance of falling victim to a scam varies by type—for instance, online purchase scams, tech support ploys, fake check or sweepstakes frauds—and by the method in which you are exposed to the offer. For those exposed to a scam through social media or a website, the numbers are chilling. When exposed to a scam on social media, 91 percent engaged and 53 percent lost money. The odds of losing money to website scams were only slightly lower: 81 percent of consumers in the study who were exposed to a fraud via a website said they engaged— and 50 percent lost money.

Other factors heighten the likelihood of falling for a fraud. Consumers were more likely to be victimized if they were isolated and didn’t have anyone to discuss the offer with, according to the study. Consequently, those who engaged scammers and lost money were less likely to be married and more likely to be widowed or divorced. “Sadly, loneliness and fraud victimization seem to go hand in hand,” noted Walsh. You’re also more likely to engage and lose money if you’re feeling financial strain, or have low levels of fi nancial literacy, the study found. Protect Yourself Take these steps to protect yourself from fraud: • Ask for input from others. Scammers try to isolate their victims. Don’t be afraid to contact a friend, or a company or organization you trust for advice. It also helps to do additional research before sending any money. One easy action: Do an Internet search to see if the website or pitch has been flagged as fraudulent or potentially fraudulent by news organizations or members of the public. • Focus on your fi nancial health and literacy. Individuals under fi nancial strain and those with lower levels of fi nancial literacy may be more susceptible to scammers. • Knowledge is power. Knowing about scams and scammer tactics can be your best defense in successfully reducing the effect of scams. Keep up with the latest frauds by subscribing to consumer newsletters and seeking out information on current scams. One-third of consumers who were targeted by a scammer, but did not engage with the offer, already knew about the specific type of scam. In addition, consumers who understood the tactics and behaviors of scammers tended not to engage with fraudsters. To learn more about how to protect your money, visit www.FINRA.org/LearnMore. Preowned Items Can Be Good For The Environment Visit consignment stores: Consignment shops and Goodwill(R) stores are popular places to buy preowned items. These stores take donations or offer items for sale on consignment, which means once sold the person who provided the item gets a portion of the sale. When browsing the racks of these stores, it’s possible to discover highend items mixed in with less expensive items. Shoppers may find designer handbags and clothing for much less than they would sell at retail, especially if the pieces are one or two seasons old. Relying on these stores to supplement classic wardrobe pieces is cost-effective and beneficial to the environment. If you regularly shop consignment stores, you can develop a rapport with the shopkeeper, who may alert you when new items are available.
Antique Sale Gift Auctions Can Successfully Raise Funds Gift auctions are a fun way to raise money for good causes. * Encourage participants to enjoy food and drink. Refreshments can make the event more lively, and selling refreshments is another way to raise money. Offer a selection of beverages, both alcoholic and nonalcoholic, as well as chips and other finger foods. Consider catering the event or asking for volunteers to bring in food pot-luck style.

HOROSCOPE ARIES (March 21 to April 19) A rejection of your attempt to be friendly leaves you with two choices: Try again, or give up. If you want to make another effort, go slowly. Let things develop without pressure. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) It could be a problem dealing with unfamiliar people who do things differently from what you’re used to. But rely on that strong sense of purpose to get you through this difficult period. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) To avoid neglecting a personal matter because of a demanding new workplace schedule, start prioritizing immediately. Knowing how to apportion your time takes a little while to set up. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) It won’t be easy to avoid some of the pressures that come with change. Best advice: Take things a step at a time, and you’ll be less likely to trip up while things are in a chaotic state. LEO (July 23 to August 22) A much-talkedabout workplace change could be coming soon. Be sure to get all the details involved in the process, and once you have them, you can decide how you want to deal with it. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) You might still believe that your trust was betrayed, although the facts would appear to prove the opposite. But by the week’s end you should learn something that will help set the record straight. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) Holiday plans could be a challenge because of shifting circumstances. But a more settled period starts by midweek, allowing you to firm up your plan-making once and for all. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) The facts continue to be on your side. So make use of them in dealing with any challenge to your stated position. Also, open your mind to the offer of help from an unlikely source. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) There could still be a communication problem holding up the resolution of a troublesome situation. Stay with it, and eventually your message will get through and be understood. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) A possible change in your workplace schedule might create a chaotic situation for a while. But once things begin to settle down, you might find that this could work to your advantage. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) A recent job-linked decision might need to be reassessed because of the possibility of finding benefits you might have overlooked. Check out all related data to help in the search. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) A personal situation you agreed to might not be as acceptable to the other person involved in the matter. Avoid pressuring and bullying. Instead, seek common ground by talking things through. BORN THIS WEEK: You have a gift for touching people’s minds as well as their hearts. You would make an outstanding educator. (c) 2019 King Features Synd., Inc.

ORGAN TRANSPLANTATION: 7 SURPRISING AND INSPIRING THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW (NAPSI)—For people on the transplant waiting list, returning to health is a real and remarkable possibility. In fact, more than 90 Americans get another chance at life every day thanks to organ donors. How many of these inspiring facts about donation and transplantation in the U.S. do you know? 1. Transplants literally keep people alive. In 2016, doctors gave former NFL quarterback and head coach Sam Wyche just days to live. Then, the same day Sam said his goodbyes, he received a new heart from a donor and a second chance at life. After the surgery, Sam said he “felt 20, 30 years younger” and he’s now back to biking, riding horses, and traveling to see his grandkids’ football games. 2. One person can give many life-changing gifts. People can donate organs (heart, liver, pancreas, intestine, two lungs and two kidneys) plus tissues (corneas, skin, heart valves, and other parts). Altogether, one donor can save up to eight lives and improve over 50 more. It’s incredible how one “yes” can change so many lives. 3. You can register online in minutes. You can visit organdonor.gov to sign up on your state registry as an organ, eye, and tissue donor. It’s wonderfully fast and easy to make a difference. 4. You can donate at any age. You might think that when organs turn 60 or 70, they’re ready to retire. Nothing could be further from the truth! A 93-year-old liver donor from Texas once saved the life of a 69-year-old teacher; and in 2017, one of every three donors was over 50. 5. Transplants grow with young recipients. Organs transplanted into children can grow and function into their adulthood and beyond. These gifts can last a lifetime. 6. A little goes a long way with livers. When transplanted, a segment of a donor’s liver will grow within a recipient until it achieves the functional capacity of a whole liver.
HOW TO OVERCOME WORKOUT FATIGUE Stay hydrated. Hydrating during a workout helps replace the water and nutrients that are lost through sweat. Muscles that are not hydrated during a workout and throughout the rest of the day are susceptible to fatigue.
GVPENNYSAVER.COM 1-866-812-8111
7. Recent innovations mean more possibilities. Vascularized composite allografts (VCAs) like face and hand transplants involve multiple kinds of tissue, and they’re giving hope to service members wounded in combat, people injured in other traumatic situations, and those born with missing limbs or severe disfigurements. Registering as an organ donor does not provide authorization for VCA donation. Your family must provide that authorization at the time of your death. Learn more at organdonor.gov/vca. Discover more about the surprising and inspiring world of transplantation and sign up to save lives at www.organdonor.gov, a website of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration.

DEAR DR. ROACH: My husband’s doctor is telling him to have his gallbladder removed because sometimes he has pain in his right side. They did all kind of tests, but he has pain when he drives long hours or when he eats salads, not fried or fatty foods. Can you tell me more about the surgery, and what it might be like for him after the surgery? -- A.M. ANSWER: Almost every time a gallbladder needs to be removed, it is because of gallstones. Gallstones are common. Six percent of men and 9% of women have them, but most of the time, people have no symptoms. It isn’t always clear whether the symptoms people have are due to the gallstones that are found on imaging studies, such as CT or ultrasound, but there are some clues to help decide whether a gallbladder that contains stones needs to be removed. The classic symptoms are pain in the right upper abdomen, especially after eating a fatty meal, such as fried food (some people eat salads with lots of fatty dressing). Sometimes gallbladder pain is not food-associated. Symptoms at nighttime are not uncommon. Nausea, bloating, lower chest pain, belching and burning pain all are well-described with gallbladder disease, and the proof comes when surgery relieves the symptoms. Sometimes, the imaging test can give clues. Thickening of the gallbladder wall or pain with pressure on the gallbladder (Murphy’s sign) are suggestive of acute gallbladder inflammation. Unfortunately, doctors aren’t always right. Occasionally a person’s gallbladder is removed, and it doesn’t help the symptoms at all. Then, a new search needs to be done to discover the true cause of the symptoms. Most people do very well after gallbladder surgery. The liver itself takes over the job of storing bile in the ducts of the liver, and bile is released into the intestines appropriately after eating. However, it takes time for the system to get adjusted to not having a gallbladder, and only 60% of people are completely back to normal after three months. A few people have persistent symptoms for years. Thus, it’s wise to be as sure as possible that symptoms are due to gallbladder disease before undergoing surgery. ***
DEAR DR. ROACH: I have been unable to complete a yawn for a couple of years. You know, that final “aaah” feeling. My doctor just smiled and offered no explanation; I’m sure she had never heard of this before. I am a 70-year-old woman who is retired. Any ideas, suggestions or recommendations to end this unsatisfied feeling? -- M.G. ANSWER: Nobody knows for sure why we yawn. It can be related to low oxygen, fatigue or boredom, but there is a “yawn center” of the brain (in the hypothalamus) and even fetuses have been shown to yawn. I have read two possible explanations why some people have incomplete or unsatisfying yawns: The first is that in some people, anxiety is the impetus to yawn, and that type of yawn just isn’t satisfying. The second is that stretching of the muscles of the face and jaw are necessary for the yawn to be complete. For some people, repeated stretching (from a “forced” yawn) and breathing in very deeply can lead to a satisfying yawn. *** Dr. Roach regrets that he is unable to answer individual letters, but will incorporate them in the column whenever possible. CREATE AN ENDURING MEMORIAL FOR A LOVED ONE Create a scholarship fund. What better way to honor a loved one’s memory than to create an avenue to help others in his or her name? Scholarship funds are an ideal way to honor a deceased loved one. Work with the deceased person’s alma mater to establish a scholarship at that school. Ella Marie Binder (Hartson) November 4, 2019 Scottsburg: Ella passed peacefully at her home on November 4, 2019 at age 92. Predeceased by her husband Emory C. Binder, her parents Willard and Laura (Long) Hartson, her brothers Willard Hartson, Arden Hartson, and Anson Hartson. Survived by children; Sally Binder, Linda Binder (Tom Austin), James Binder (Michelle Cowley), and June ( James) Webster; grandchildren, Ronald Stefan, Kevin (Maureen) Stefan, Thomas Stefan, and William Stefan, Anita Binder ( Joshua Catchpole), Joseph (Laura) Binder, Crieg Binder, James Binder (Caelie Smith), Korie Binder (Bryce Jaeger), James Webster ( Jeremy Wroblewski), Kristina (Kenny) Holmes, Joseph (Kaeleigh) DíAgostino, and Samuel D’Agostino; sisters, Gladys Weed and Martha Martin; many great-grandchildren including Hailey Gilson, nieces, and nephews. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Audie Hartson, Mary Kay Hartson, and Darlene Binder. Ella graduated from Groveland High School on June 24, 1946 and received a scholarship to attend Rochester Business Institute. Instead Ella chose to work at F.A.Owens in Dansville as an Executive secretary and to start a family. Ella was a loving wife to Emory for over 50 years and dedicated her life to raising her children, especially Sally, devoting 50 plus years to meet her needs at home. She loved gardening, crocheting and going for long car rides to get ice cream. Family and friends may call on Monday, November 11th, from 10am-12noon at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 21 Big Tree Street, Rte 20A, Livonia, NY where Ella’s Funeral Service will be held at 12 noon, following calling hours. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Scottsburg, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family, C/O June Webster, 744 Sand Hill Road, Caledonia, NY 14423. MEMORIAL GIFTS HONOR LOVED ONES he loss of a friend or loved one is seldom easy, particularly if a person had been suffering from an illness. Close friends and family honor the memories of their deceased loved ones in different ways. Charitable giving can be a great way to honor a loved one’s memory while helping others. Survivors often find comfort in the knowledge that they can do good in the name of a loved one. Tributes or memorial gifts can be approached in different ways and serve as an ongoing reminder of a deceased loved one. Create a charitable foundation: Those who have the time and resources can establish their own charitable groups in the decedent’s name. This method of charity requires the most time and effort, but can prove to be quite an impactful memorial. Individuals who would like to go this route can consult with financial and tax professionals about the best way to establish a charitable group. Community foundation: Families can focus on something their loved one cared deeply about, such as animal rescue, children, the arts, or even particular places in a community - such as a local park. According to CarePages, a company that produces free patient websites and offers community support for those coping with illness, families can choose to have their donations funneled to specific charities or nonprofit groups. Otherwise, funds can be allocated to a third party community fund that will distribute money to various organizations no matter where they are located. Medical tribute: Memorial gifts that assist medical associations or groups working to find cures or offer treatments for diseases are quite popular. If a loved one passed away due to a specific illness, it is common to ask for donations to a specific organization that specializes in information and services pertaining to that illness. Many such groups have a “donate in memory” option on their websites. Oftentimes families are notified regarding who made memorial donations in their loved ones’ names, but the amount of the donation need not be revealed. Personal intentions: Those who would like to make a donation but cannot think of a charity to associate with their deceased loved one have a host of options at their disposal. Consider donating to a school or library, requesting materials be purchased in the decedent’s name. Otherwise, donate to a general scholarship fund, possibly at the decedent’s alma mater. Finish their work: If the decedent was engaged in a charitable project prior to their death, volunteer to help complete that project. Giving back after the death of a loved one is a great way to keep the memory of that person alive.

A HEARTFELT
We would like to send a warm thank you and appreciation to everyone for your kindness and support during the illness and passing of Edgar R. Schmidt. A special thank you to the Noyes ER staff, the LCEMS transport, Strong ER staff, all the Nurses, Doctors, and Interns, especially Dr. Mulford and her team for giving me extra time with Edgar and caring for him so much. Thank you to Todd Forsythe and the staff at St. George-Forsythe Funeral Home for all your help and guidance during this very difficult time that we were not prepared for. You truly cared and ran everything with ease and professionalism. Thank you Nancy Nice and the Wayland American Legion for the beautiful and amazing Military Service that Edgar so deserved. It was very touching and you all did a wonderful job. I would like to thank my work family, the Genesee Valley Penny Saver for being so understanding and for your generosity of letting me be by Edgar’s side for as long as I needed to be. I appreciate all the support you have given me over the years. Also a big thank you to Casey Hitchcock for covering for me while I was out of the office, knowing my customers were in good hands. Thank you to my parents (Wendy & Larry Howe) for knowing when to be there and to Kellie Quibell for being there in a split second of a phone call. Thank you to all who sent cards, texts, emails, flowers, food and donations in Edgar’s memory. Also for all the very kind words of what a wonderful man Edgar was and for every single hug that was received!
Thank you to the Union Hose for allowing us to have the repast there and to Eric Cox for being very generous and flexible with the time he had booked at the UH and for helping set up tables. Also thank you to Tim Witherell for bartending that evening for us, and to Craig Howe for cooking the very delicious meal for the repast. We greatly appreciate everything. Thank you to the NYS DOT Traffic & Safety Dept, especially the crew in the Signal Shop and the College of Engineering Technology at RIT for your understanding and kindness in letting Lois be with her brother and family during this trying and sad time. Thank you to Frank Mountzouros, Kellie Quibell, Zach Schmidt & Trent Tibbits, for keeping the Star Shining for the past few months. We appreciate you stepping up and doing all that you have. We are lucky to have you on board. And last but not least, to all the Customers who have patronized the Star Theatre over the past 25 years, thank you all for touching Edgar’s life and being part of the Star’s continued success. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts and hope we see you soon at the show!
WITH MANY THANKS AND WARM REGARDS, Jennifer Howe, Chuck & Norma Schmidt, Lois & David Furioso & Carl Schmidt

AVOID FINANCIAL PERIL AFTER A JOB LOSS Losing a job can be devastating. Even in a strong market, companies can go out of business or reduce payroll. Being let go can initially tug at one’s pride, and after a layoff sets in, it may cause individuals to start worrying for their financial futures. While many people can survive and may even enjoy a few weeks of rest and relaxation after a job loss, financial concerns may surface soon thereafter. A 2017 GOBankingRates survey found that more than half of American adults have less than $1,000 in their savings accounts. Financial planners typically advise people to have at least three month’s worth of earnings socked away for emergency situations, like a medical issue or a job loss. Even though the survey also found more than a quarter (27 percent) of respondents have $10,000 or more saved, that might not be enough to survive a job loss for six months or more.
Call (585) 335-3100, or send your letter and resume to Contact@tcfmedicine.org, or to the address below: Tri-County Family Medicine Attn: Job Openings P.O. Box 601, Dansville, NY 14437
A job loss can come as a shock. However, with level-headedness and smart planning, many people can avoid dire financial situations in the wake of a layoff. EMPLOYMENT

www.yorkcsd.recruitfront.com WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A TEAM PLAYER The ability to communicate, interact and work collectively with others is both a professional and personal asset. But in certain ways, the reliance on technology has made working as a team more complicated. People have grown accustomed to spending large quantities of time alone working at computers or on phones and tablets, potentially compromising their ability to work directly with others when the need arises. According to Monster.com, when it comes to choosing a candidate for a new job or promotion, employers consistently say they want a team player. That means it’s advantageous for professionals looking to further their careers to brush up on their team-building and social skills.

CONSERVE ENERGY AROUND THE OFFICE Determine how much space you truly need. Current business owners and prospective owners can save substantial amounts of money and avoid wasting energy by giving ample thought to how much office space they truly need. Large office spaces may not be necessary for businesses that recently downsized staff, while those starting out may want to start in small spaces before upgrading to larger spaces if and when their businesses expand. Small business owners leasing their office space can speak with their leasing agents to determine if they can include a clause in their lease that allows them to move into larger spaces if the need arises before their existing leases expire.
