GENERAL CONTRACTING
HOME HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING
BENEFITS OF HIRING PROFESSIONAL CONTRACTORS Cost: Conventional wisdom suggests it’s less expensive to do something yourself than to hire someone else to do it for you, but that’s not necessarily true of home improvement projects. Labor costs typically account for a substantial amount of professionally contracted projects, but homeowners can cut those costs by volunteering to do some of the simpler tasks themselves. In addition, contractors often purchase materials at a much lower cost than individual homeowners because contractors buy in bulk. So while labor costs might be lower on DIY projects, the cost of materials can offset those savings.

PITCH IN AND SAVE MONEY Salvage: Removing debris and items that will no longer be needed once the renovation is complete is another way homeowners can pitch in. Homeowners remodeling their kitchens may be replacing their existing stoves and refrigerators and hoping to donate these items. In such instances, driving the items to the donation site or arranging for them to be picked up rather than taken off the premises by the contractor or his employees can cut labor costs, as it allows laborers to keep working toward the end goal rather than requiring them to leave the work site to drop unwanted items off. LAWN & LANDSCAPING REMEDY LANDSCAPE DRAINAGE PROBLEMS
OPEN
Gutters and downspouts are designed to move rainwater away from the home. Too often, however, gutters and downspouts become clogged or do not work effectively. Overflowing gutters will transfer rainwater down the side of a home, where it can puddle at the foundation. This water can ultimately suffocate a lawn, and it may cause interior damage to the home as well. First, inspect and clean all gutters. Leaves, nests, sticks, and even dead animals can block the flow of water in a gutter. Test downspouts by running hose water from the top of the gutter. Downspouts should be pointed away from the home and may need to be extended so they direct water away from the dwelling.

I used to visit and revisit it a dozen times a day, and stand in deep contemplation over my vegetable progeny with a love that nobody could share or conceive of who had never taken part in the process of creation. It was one of the most bewitching sights in the world to observe a hill of beans thrusting aside the soil, or a rose of early peas just peeping forth sufficiently to trace a line of delicate green. ~Nathaniel Hawthorne, Mosses from and Old Manse Everything is blooming most recklessly; if it were voices instead of colors, there would be an unbelievable shrieking into the heart of the night. ~ Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters of Rainer Maria Rilke

DEAR CHARLIE: Knowing ahead of time what emergency services are available in a disaster is an excellent move. You won’t have as many unpleasant surprises during the high stress of a natural disaster. But it is a bummer that the local disaster shelter doesn’t accept pets. First, locate the nearest disaster shelter that does allow you to shelter with your pet. Develop a contingency plan for evacuating to this shelter, if possible. Another option is to identify pet-friendly hotels within an hour or two of your home; if you need to leave for more than a day, these may be an option. Next, find out if there are designated shelters just for pets during or after a natural disaster. You wouldn’t be able to stay with your pets, but they would be safe. Third, get engaged with the local government and animal shelter. Talk to your new veterinarian, too. Find out if there’s a local emergency management office and call them. Are any plans in place for taking care of pets in a disaster? If not, ask for steps to be taken to include this contingency. During California’s wildfires in 2018, there were very few facilities just for animals, and no shelters allowed them. The need was so great that empty strip malls were repurposed to care for pets and abandoned animals. Urge local government to create a plan now, before a disaster, so all pets in the area will have a safe place to stay.

HOW TO SUPPORT BUSINESSES DURING MANDATORY RESTRICTIONS ORDER DELIVERY: It’s still possible to enjoy foods from your favorite local restaurants. Many restaurants that had not previously done so have begun to offer delivery services, be it curbside or at-home, and this can provide a great respite for families who have had to cook three meals a day at home for their entire families for extended periods of time. Curbside delivery has made it possible to get takeout meals without compromising social distancing recommendations.
HEALTH BENEFITS OF HONEY Substitute for refined sugar: Refined sugar offers little to no nutritional value and is full of empty calories. Heathline says that honey has bioactive plant compounds and antioxidants as well as trace amounts of vitamins and minerals. The antioxidants in honey, which include phenols and flavonoids, may help prevent cardiovascular disease, stroke and some types of cancer.

Suzanne’s Comfort Care Home On May 8th, Suzanne’s Comfort Care Home will celebrate our 3rd year anniversary! Since opening we have helped 53 families through the end of life journey. Our house is very comfortable and homey, and our volunteers are very caring, selfless individuals. We are extremely grateful to have them, and we would love to continue to add to our volunteer family. Comfort Care Homes rely on donations. Suzanne’s has no paid staff and we do not receive any income from insurance, medicare, etc. Churches, businesses, and individuals have been so generous to us. Broadening one’s horizons through crafting can be a worthwhile pursuit. Crafting can serve as a relaxing pastime and provide an opportunity to learn rewarding skills. Learning to crochet is one way for men and women to combine creativity and practicality. Crochet is a form of handwork using yarn and a crochet hook. According to the Crochet Guild of America, there’s no way to know just how old the art of crochet is. However, crochet expert Annie Potter has said the modern form of the art originated in the 16th century, primarily in France and England. Others surmise crocheting traces its origins to Arabia before it spread westward through various Mediterranean trade routes. Page 16

TO YOUR GOOD HEALTH
Your Hearing is
By Keith Roach, M.D.
Joint Pain Not Usual Statin Side Effect ---
ESSENTIAL We are open to meet your hearing healthcare needs. We now have the capability of telehealth visits and we are offering curbside service. ALL BY APPOINTMENT ONLY!
DEAR DR. ROACH: I am a 69-year-old white male. I take one 20-mg pravastatin per day to manage my cholesterol. One of the side effects is joint pain. Are you aware of a substitute that does not have this joint pain side effect? -- H.L. ANSWER: Statins are one of the most common medicines used, and although they have relatively few side effects, so many people take them that there are many reported untoward effects. Muscle aches are common. Muscle breakdown is serious and, fortunately, rare. But joint aches are not a common side effect. In the package insert, “arthritis” is listed in less than 1% of people. Of all the statins, pravastatin tends to have relatively few side effects. It is metabolized differently from how the others are, so have a discussion with your doctor about taking a different statin, such as atorvastatin (Lipitor). Lipitor is much more potent than pravastatin (Pravachol), so the dose you will need is likely to be much lower. *** DEAR DR. ROACH: What is your opinion on screening for ovarian cancer in a woman with a family history (in my case, a sister)? One gynecologist stressed an annual ultrasound, while the other discouraged me from doing so. I am worried that if I wait until symptoms develop, the cancer might be pretty advanced. -- W. ANSWER: I really understand why people with increased risk for ovarian cancer are interested in screening. Unfortunately, we still don’t have any screening tests, such as an ultrasound or CA-125 blood test, that are good enough to recommend yet. I hope this changes soon. Promising work is progressing. Consider genetic testing for a familial cancer syndrome, such as BRCA or Lynch syndrome. People with one of these cancer syndromes are at high enough risk that screening may be of benefit, and there are ongoing studies to help identify the best strategy. Speak to your gynecologist about a referral to a genetic counselor. If you test negative for these genetic syndromes, you are at lower risk (but unfortunately, even low-risk women still may get ovarian cancer). You certainly should be vigilant for even mild symptoms of ovarian cancer; these are nonspecific and may include abdominal discomfort, bloating or swelling. Urinary urgency (a sense of needing to get to the bathroom right away) also should prompt a visit to your gynecologist, more so than in people without a family history. *** DEAR DR. ROACH: Is it possible that when immersed in water, you absorb it through your skin? Whenever I spend more than 30 minutes in the pool, I later have to urinate more than when I don’t spend time in the water. Can the absorbed water travel to kidneys? Can the chemicals added to pool water do some damage? -- E.M. ANSWER: Water is not absorbed to any appreciable effect when the body is immersed. The reason you urinate more may be due to unnoticed swallowing of pool water, which is very common in swimmers. Don’t worry about the chlorine in pool water. The amount of chlorine is similar to or only a bit higher than most tap water, and is not enough to be dangerous. *** Dr. Roach regrets that he is unable to answer individual questions, but will incorporate them in the column whenever possible. The sentiment “don’t judge a book by its cover can be applied to many situations. When it comes to selling their homes, homeowners should remember this adage as they prepare their homes for prospective buyers. Homeowners who want to make their properties stand out can take the following steps. De-personalize the home. Homeowners fill their spaces with family photos, heirlooms, personal interests, and other conversation pieces. Prospective buyers may not be able to see past personal belongings and may even be distracted by them. For example, buyers who have strong beliefs about animal welfare may not buy a home displaying hunting trophies. Remove personalized items where possible, replacing them with generic items.

Improve the exterior. HGTV says that curb appeal is crucial to making a strong first impression. A messy or lackluster landscape can turn buyers away even before they reach the front door. Mow the lawn and make sure shrubbery has been trimmed. Seasonal potted flowers and plants can help make the house look polished. Repair cracks or damaged walkways, and consider a fresh coat of paint on trim around windows and doors. Pressure-wash siding if necessary. Put things in storage. Rent a storage unit to house items that can make a home appear cluttered. Clean out closets and cabinets, so that when buyers “snoop during appointments or open houses they see orderly storage areas. If closets are brimming with stuff, buyers may assume the house doesn’t have enough storage space and move on. Make it light and bright. Open up all of the drapes and blinds, and turn on overhead lights so the house is well-lit. Add table lamps or other fixtures to especially dim rooms. Create a hotel experience. Forbes suggests making bathrooms look like a spa. Stack a few pretty washcloths tied with ribbon, add some scented candles and faux plants and buy bathmats and towels in coordinating tones. Remove extraneous items from kitchen counters and replace them with vases of flowers. In addition, set up dining spaces as if one were sitting down to a meal, and ensure appliances are sparkling clean. Use common ‘scents.’ Skip the fish, bacon or other aromatic meals for a few days, as such foods can leave lingering aromas. Baked goods, vanilla and cinnamon might make for more appealing scents.

The Carbonel Family Impacts Lives with Rochester Inspired Masks By Amanda Dudek
I
t was a time of uncertainty. COVID-19 had spread to the United States. There was talk of restrictions and quarantine, of ventilators and expected death tolls. For the Carbonel family of Honeoye Falls, the sounding of the alarm was their call to action, founding Rochester Inspired Masks. Jennifer Carbonel, mother of three, recalled those early days. “There was such a feeling panic everywhere, and we were asking how we could help,” she said. “I know how to sew, and that made making masks a good choice.” Carbonel said she learned to sew at a young age. “I knew I could quickly teach my children to sew, too,” she added. “We started the first Monday after our children were sent home from school indefinitely.” “My sister is a nurse at Strong,” she explained. “She volunteered to work in the COVID unit. Having a family member on the frontline definitely played a part. This need is near and dear to our hearts, and sewing masks was a way to have a purpose during this time, a way to do something positive.” Carbonel began making fabric masks with her daughter Tatiana, a sophomore in college, her son Xavier, a student at Honeoye Falls-Lima High School which Carbonel and her parents had also attended, and her son Harrison, a middle school student at Honeoye Falls-Lima. “None of them sewed a stitch in their lives before this started!” exclaimed Carbonel, praising each of her children. “Tatiana created our logo, and she helps monitor and update our social media as well as fielding questions, organizing, tracking the requests and so many of the administrative pieces here.” Mask numbers quickly soared into the thousands. “It grew much bigger than we could ever have imagined,” said Carbonel. Rochester Inspired Masks reached out to the community for support. “When I put it out to the community, I was completely in awe of how many people wanted to help in whatever way they could,” she shared. “Our volunteers number well over 100 people now.” “If I post saying, ‘I received a delivery of elastic; who can cut,’ immediately, half a dozen people offer to do it,” said Carbonel. “I have received donations of material, bags and supplies from as far away as California, from people I do not know and have never met.”
The Carbonel kids sewing masks for those in need! shared. “We used ‘Rochester’ because we didn’t want anyone outside of town to think we wouldn’t help them. We are happy to help whoever needs masks, no matter where they live.” They even sent a mask to an exchange student in Spain. As the tremendous need for masks continues, so do the Carbonels, reaching mask 5,117 on May 6th. “We lost track of the days and hours and weeks,” said Carbonel. “I have my work responsibilities, and my children have school, but we fit it in.” Love and support for Rochester Inspired Masks flows in. “We receive cards, flowers, photos of families wearing our masks, notes,” shared Carbonel. “I collect all the notes and keep them in a box.” She adds that she has been embarrassed by personal attention. “There is literally an army of people helping every single day, not just me,” Carbonel insists. “I could never have made over 5,000 masks by myself with my children. It is truly the definition of awesome!” For now, Rochester Inspired Masks plans to continue as long as there is a need and as long as they are able. “If you need a mask, we will help you,” said Carbonel. “People can’t comprehend that there is no charge, although we are very grateful to those who donate to keep us going. I don’t want anyone to have to decide whether they will buy necessities like food or buy face masks. We are in this together.” For more information, visit Rochester Inspired Masks on Facebook.
The Carbonel family sporting Rochester Inspired Masks! Carbonel praised Rochester Inspired Mask’ dedicated volunteers. “Laurie Talbot, a math teacher at the high school, cuts fabric for us. We have several people who cut fabric. Laurie’s group will cut as many as 600 pieces of mask fabric in an evening. It is incredible, and there are many more! There are so many names I want to say; so many people who are doing amazing things every day. You would think by now they would be tired, but they don’t stop. They keep cutting, sewing, ironing, and packaging. I have sheer gratitude for each and every person who has been a part of this ongoing effort.” The volunteers are a testament to the Honeoye Falls community. “I was born and raised here,” she said. “It is funny because a lot of people call it Mayberry, and it really is. When there is a need, so many people will step up and help.” As its name implies, these masks have gone far beyond Honeoye Falls. “We liked ‘Inspired’ because it can mean so many things,” Carbonel

LOCAL & RELIABLE DUMPSTER RENTAL 585-310-5117 www.expertdumpster.com 248 Route 31 - Macedon, NY
To Julie and her crew at McDonalds in Spencerport: Thanks so much for keeping your customers happy during these times. Love you all from The Coffee Club.
Thank you to local school districts for working tirelessly seven days a week to provide learning activities and support to children and parents. The decision to keep our kids out of school has caused tremendous sadness for teachers. We hoped NYS would allow us to finish our school year face-to-face in class with our kids. Teachers are putting extended time into preparing lessons, creating activities that can connect to curriculum, attending virtual meetings with staff, training themselves on the digital environment, volunteering to pass out food and supplies
so judgmental. Also, to the person complaining about people going out in public, you are out in public as well.
You should not be so judgmental about a person that needs to go to work. They might not have the luxury of being able to stay home. Filing for unemployment is not an option now because of all the people who are out of work. They may have a family they need to feed, a house to pay for, bills to keep the gas and electricity on. People are becoming so nasty anymore. If someone must work, then that is what they must do, if someone must go to the store, do not be rude about what they are buying. There are so many reasons why, and maybe you should not be GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

for families and calling to check in on their students. Thank you teachers! This is not your preferred method of educating our kids, and you should be appreciated for going above and beyond to meet this challenge!
I want to thank the Farmington TOPS for their above and beyond efforts for maintaining COVID-19 precautions and sanitizing. They wipe down every cart after use and have areas for cleaned carts. They wash the carts after they are brought back inside. This is time consuming and a lot of work. There is tape on the floor at registers to help give people the 6ft distancing. Isles and spaces are much more open. They have some dedicated shopping hours for seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Like many other stores, they close early have to
work, March 15th. I am selfemployed and have no income. I cannot work under new Pause order. Also, I have preexisting health issues that prevent me from taking an essential worker job. After many calls to complete an application, I received a call on April 17th. It took 20 minutes for the lady to say that I am approved, and I will get money in a few days, but I must recertify by Sunday. I did so only to be told I cannot recertify because my application is not complete, and that I must call the other number. I have called many times so far and have been hung up on each time after the systems says to hold. If it were not for food pantries, I think a lot of New Yorkers would starve to death! Each day that passes is one day closer to my company going bankrupt.
Shame on you. People put a lot of time and love into the one spot they can go and visit their loved one. If it ever happened to you, how would feel? The grave sites of loved ones are so private and personal to whoever visits, and to think someone would destroy their love and hard work is sad and unbelievable. It is against the law, and you can only hope that no one saw you and will not go to the police with the information. With all that is going on in the world right now, we have people like you doing more destruction to this world in just another way. Good luck sleeping at night I believe if you are going 60 with a clear conscience. mph on a country road, then you I filed my unemployment are speeding yourself. online on the last day of

the store cleaned and stocked. Thank You for your work to help all in fighting this pandemic!
A big Heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in Erin’s 18th birthday car parade on May 3rd. It was an awesome event. In her words, “Best Birthday Ever...Here Come the happy tears!” Erin has Down Syndrome, and all you wonderful people who came out made her day extra special during these difficult times. Special Thanks to Dawn and John who arranged this spectacular event! Be safe and well, The Hurley Family
Many thanks for checking on me and bagging my groceries in the Geneseo Aldi’s parking lot after I was having trouble breathing from wearing a mask in the store. The ER patients are lucky to have a caring nurse like you!
In a time when a pandemic is really bringing out the worst in people, I have noticed one thing at least, which gives everyone a little more enjoyment: more rants! Heartwarming, feel-good positive vibes are nice, but let us face it: the rants are what we all really enjoy. All the media-fueled pandemic panic has turned most people into toilet paper hoarding, OCD busybodies with an irrational fear of grocery stores and an insatiable need to complain, which makes for an invigorating “rants” section. So, thank you, ranters, for putting your annoyance to such good use! Stay home; stay safe. To the person who killed my loving and friendly cat on [local road] on April 29th and left him to die on the side of the road, how cruel of you! I am devastated. I hope you were not texting.

SENIOR NEWS LINE
6 ways to prevent falls around the house
By Matilda Charles
Help Fill the Hours With an E-Reader I don't often recommend specific products in this column, but there's one that many of us could use right now: a Kindle. The Kindle is a handheld reading device, also called an e-reader, that holds thousands of books. Books can be downloaded into a Kindle -- both books you buy (or read for free) from Amazon, and free books from your local library. With Amazon's Kindle Unlimited, for $9.99 a month, you can read as many books as you like, or many books are $2.99 or less. For the device itself, consider the Kindle Paperwhite. Go to Amazon and read the reviews, questions and technical specs, such as WiFi versus WiFi+Cellular Connectivity, audio capability and storage size. If you already have a tablet, you can read e-books as well. You'll need an app, available for free on Amazon, if that's where you're going to order books. In the search box on Amazon, type in Kindle app. The biggest difference between reading on a tablet and reading on a Kindle is this: The Kindle has one purpose, which is reading. The screen doesn't have a glare (unlike the shiny glass on a tablet), and you can easily increase the size of the type font. If you want to download free books from your library, either onto a Kindle or a tablet, you can likely get help if you need it. Many libraries are technically closed now (the public can't go in), but staff are still there, some of them specifically to offer technical help. Call to ask for the specific e-reader app they use. Last week I gave you a puzzle to solve and promised the answer: What is the next letter in this sequence? O T T F F S S __ Answer: E ... as in One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight.

Despite all of the potential hazards around a house - from electrical issues to fire hazards to carbon monoxide - the National Home Security Alliance says that falls are the leading cause of death due to home accidents. Falls are responsible for one-third of all home-related fatalities. Although seniors are the group most affected by falls, these types of accidents can affect anyone. A broken bone may be a minor inconvenience for young people, but fractures are more serious for the elderly. As a result, seniors must take measures to protect themselves against falls. These steps can minimize risk at home. 1. Remove tripping hazards. Examine rooms and hallways for potential hazards, such as slippery throw rugs, floorboards that stick up, loose carpeting, or furniture that blocks walking paths. Remedy these hazards as soon as possible. Address loose floorboards and/or place nonslip materials beneath rugs. 2. Install grab bars or railings. Install grab bars in certain locations for extra stability or where someone may need leverage getting up from a seated position. They are particularly helpful near toilets and bathtubs and in stairways and hallways. 3. Stick to sensible shoes. Sensible shoes fit properly and have sturdy, nonskid soles. Avoid walking around in slippers or even in stocking feet, which are much more slippery. 4. Store items within reach. Store items that are used frequently, such as dishes, in easily accessible cabinets and other locations. This prevents having to climb or reach for them. 5. Install more lighting. Poor visibility can contribute to falls. Lighting in hallways, stairways, bathrooms, and bedrooms - even if it is a small night light - can be enough to light the way. 6. Reinforce your home’s exterior. Falls do not only occur inside. Inspect the perimeter of a property for uneven turf, holes or cracked or uneven patches of walkways. Make sure lighting is working at entryways, and check that exterior handrails are secure. Falls can cause serious injury or death, particularly for aging men and women. Simple fixes around the house can make things more secure and reduce the risk for falls. TF206001

ARIES (March 21 to April 19) You might be a bit shaken by a friend’s request. But before the Lamb leaps to conclusions, insist on a full explanation. You still might say no, but at least you’ll know what you’re saying no to. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) Seeing red over those nasty remarks by someone with an ax to grind? Of course you are. So get out there and give your supporters the facts they need to get the truth out. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) A changing situation should get you to reassess your vacation plans and make any adjustments as soon as possible. And don’t fret -- the change most likely will turn out for the better. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) Don’t put off dealing with any negative feelings that might be left over from a recent confrontation. The sooner all is resolved, the sooner you can move forward with fewer complications. LEO (July 23 to August 22) Leos and Leonas might feel the urge to redecorate their dens, and that can turn into a good opportunity to strengthen family ties by putting the whole pride to work to make it happen. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) Look for the most efficient way to get a job done quickly and well. Taking more time than you need to make it look more challenging is a short-sighted move you might regret later on. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) A pesky problem should be dealt with immediately so you can put your time and effort into something more important. Someone from your past could have significant news for you. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) A workplace situation becomes a lot more bothersome than you’d expected. Be careful not to be pulled into all that anger. Look for support among others who also want to avoid trouble. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) Cheer up, lonely lovers, wherever you are. Just when you thought you’d been deleted from Cupid’s database, the chubby cherub proves that’s just not so. Congratulations. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) A casual relationship could take a more serious turn. Are you ready for it? Your stars say you are. Paired Sea Goats also will find a renewed richness in their relationships. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) Meeting a collaborator with new ideas seems to be a dream come true. But for both your sakes, be sure all your legal i’s are dotted and t’s are crossed before you start working together. PISCES (February 19 to March 21) A romantic overture flatters the usually unflappable Fish. But since it’s a sincere from-the-heart gesture, go ahead and enjoy it. A minor health problem responds well to treatment. BORN THIS WEEK: You have the warm heart of a Taurean and the sensitivity of a Gemini. You would make a wonderful leader. So go ahead: Run for office. © 2020 King Features Synd., Inc.

STAY SAFE WHEN SELLING YOUR CAR Millions of people across the globe sell their used vehicles each year, and many of those sales go smoothly. But selling to strangers carries some risk, and sellers must consider their safety when putting their vehicles up for sale. Arrange to meet prospective buyers in public. While it can be inconvenient to drive to a public place each time a prospective buyer expresses interest in your vehicle, sacrificing convenience for security is worth the extra effort. Many people would not invite strangers to their homes under typical circumstances, so it makes no sense to do so when selling a vehicle. If possible, invite buyers to meet you in the parking lot of your office. Or if the car you’re selling is not the car you drive to work each day, then arrange to meet with buyers in a mall or grocery store parking lot. Meet buyers with a buddy in tow. There’s safety in numbers, so bring a friend or family member along when meeting prospective buyers. Many buyers won’t pose a threat to sellers, but some may be criminals looking to steal a vehicle or cause harm to sellers who are complete strangers. Criminals are less likely to attack or take advantage of two or more people than one person. And should anything go wrong with a sale, having a witness around to back up your version of sale terms cannot hurt. Let prospective buyers know you want to see some identification. When prospective buyers respond to your ad, let them know you will want to see some valid photo identification before you allow them to take the car for a test drive. Letting prospective buyers know this in advance of meeting them can prevent an awkward, potentially confrontational situation when you meet in person. Don’t be afraid to turn away buyers who seem suspicious. While your goal might be to sell your vehicle as quickly as possible, don’t hesitate to turn away prospective buyers who make you feel uneasy. If they insist on seeing the vehicle, hang up the phone after informing them you intend to contact the authorities.

“The highest standard in collision repair”
M aintain tire balance and alignment for a smooth ride Balancing tires involves equalizing the w eight of the combined tire and w heel assembly so that each tire spins smoothly on the road. Tires are mounted on the w heel assembly, and the chances of this assembly having precise w eight distribution is nearly impossible w ithout a little help. According to Discount Tire, the slightest imbalance in the tires, even as little as half an ounce, can be felt by drivers. Unequal mass can make tires w obble, causing noticeable vibrations. M echanics w ill test tire balance by putting it on a balancing machine. The machine w ill spin the tire and determine the tire’s heaviest point. Counteracting w eights w ill be placed on the tire hubs to create a more uniform balance of w eight. Lead w eights are often used, but some are being phased out for other metals, such as zinc, because of the medical and environmental implications of lead. Tires that are not balanced w ill not only cause vibration, they also can lead to uneven w ear.

HOW TO SUPPORT BUSINESSES DURING MANDATORY RESTRICTIONS Recognize that more than food is available for takeout. In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York announced relaxations on laws governing what can and cannot be obtained via takeout, allowing takeout on goods that were previously restricted in regard to takeout. For example, Cuomo announced that the New York State Liquor Authority intended to temporarily relax regulations regarding the takeout and delivery of alcohol. Utilizing such services can be a great way to support local businesses while still adhering to recommendations designed to slow the spread of COVID-19.
