1948 70th Anniversary Series- Volume 12 Putting together and writing our history over the past 12 months has been an interesting and sometimes emotional experience. So many changes since that first edition in 1948. So many wonderful people have passed through our doors – advertisers, suppliers, many friends and most especially our dedicated employees. As a family we have been blessed many times over as we have worked together in the advertising business. The future is bright! We are excited and happy to have a third generation already involved and ready to take on the next chapters of the Genesee Valley Penny Saver.

But it happens every day. It’s estimated that lost or stolen phones alone could cost U.S. users $30 billion in 2012. W hen a phone or tablet goes missing, so does a lot of personal information. And that can lead to m ore than just some inconvenience - it can lead to a stolen identity. The Federal Trade Commission estimates that as many as 9 million Americans have their identities s tolen each year. W hile identity thieves still resort to old-fashioned methods of information gathering, like go ing through trash and stealing w allets and purses, they can also get the personal information you store on your mobile device.

Our hearts are full of appreciation for the multitude of kindness, sympathy, food, flowers, donations to Lollypop Farm, cards, visits, hugs, and many kind words spoken of Judy in this time of sudden loss. She was an incredibly beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and dear friend to so many of us. We would like to express special appreciation to Marty Hughes, Mike Dougherty and the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home, Steve Harrison, Manuel Karam, the entire staff at the Genesee Valley Penny Saver, the first responders of the Livonia Fire Department and EMTs, and the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department. Also to the staff at Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Service in Henrietta and Dr. Ken Bedell and Lima Veterinary for their help with Penny. We cannot begin to express how thankful we are for the support of everyone in the community. Judy will always be remembered by her beautiful smile, incredible kindness and selflessness, and the imprint she left in all of our hearts.

STRAWBERRY-GLAZED FRENCH TOAST WITH SWEETENED SOUR CREAM Serves 4 • • • • • • • • • • 1.

8 1-inch-thick bread slices, cut from a country or peasant loaf 2 cups half-and-half 4 egg yolks 3 tablespoons light brown sugar 1 tablespoon vanilla extract, plus 1/2 teaspoon 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 3 tablespoons unsalted butter 1/2 cup sour cream 1 tablespoon granulated sugar 1/3 cup strawberry jam or preserves (see note 2) Arrange a rack at center position and preheat the oven to 400 F. Place the bread slices on a baking sheet and bake until dry and very lightly browned, about 8 minutes per side. Watch carefully so that the bread does not burn. Remove the bread from the oven and reduce the oven temperature to 200 F. 2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the half-and-half, egg yolks, brown sugar, 1 tablespoon vanilla, and cinnamon. Pour the mixture into a shallow pan (a 9-by-13-inch glass baking dish works well). Add the

toasted bread slices and soak them 4 minutes per side. Remove to a large plate or platter. 3. Place a large, heavy frying pan over low to medium heat. Add about 2 teaspoons of the butter, or enough to coat the bottom of the pan lightly. When melted, add enough bread slices to fit comfortably in a single layer. Cook slowly until the slices are golden brown and crisp on both sides, about 4 minutes per side. Remove to a baking sheet and place in the warm oven. Repeat, adding more butter to the pan as needed until all the bread slices have been sautéed. 4. In a small bowl, stir together the sour cream, granulated sugar and remaining 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. 5. When ready to serve, spread each toast with a thin coating of strawberry jam and top with a dollop of sweetened sour cream. Note 1: The best bread for this dish is an unsliced loaf of good-quality peasant or country bread, preferably one without an extra-hard crust. One that is rectangular, rather than round, is more convenient, but either will do. Cut off the ends of the loaf, and reserve for another use. Then slice the bread into 1-inch-thick slices. If your loaf is large and the slices seem large, cut them in half. Note 2: You can try other jams, preserves or marmalades. Cherry, raspberry or peach preserves and orange marmalade are other possibilities.

How t o prot ect your car’s resale value Keep all maintenance records. New cars typically do not require much maintenance. But drivers should keep records of all w ork and maintenance done on their vehicles, even if that w ork does not extend beyond routine tuneups or oil changes. Keeping maintenance records show s prospective buyers you prioritized taking care of the vehicle over the years, and that makes the car or truck more attractive to preow ned vehicle buyers w ho w ant to avoid buying a lemon or a car that has not been taken care of.

DID YOU KNOW? Halitosis, or bad breath as it’s commonly known, can result from any number of factors. While food can be a culprit, some additional factors may be contributing to mouth odor as well. Poor dental hygiene is a particular concern. According to Colgate and the American Dental Association, failure to brush and floss teeth regularly leads to the accumulation of food particles in the mouth. This food can collect bacteria and begin to break down, causing a bad aroma. Dry mouth is another condition that causes bad breath. Without adequate saliva production, particles of food that may cause odor are not swept away regularly. Bad breath also may be an indication of a medical condition elsewhere in the body. Upper respiratory infections and gastrointestinal disturbances may contribute to halitosis.

TO YOUR GOOD HEALTH By Keith Roach, M.D.

The Great Vitamin Debate --DEAR DR. ROACH: Do you prescribe vitamins or treatments to enhance the immune system? -- C.N. ANSWER: I do not. In my opinion, a healthy diet makes a deficiency of a vitamin or mineral severe enough to weaken the immune system unlikely. Stress reduction (through many techniques) and good sleep are more important than supplements. People think that a daily vitamin and mineral supplement is like an insurance policy against a good diet. However, many studies have shown that taking vitamins does not, in general, lead to improvements in prevention of disease, including heart disease, cancer or infections. So I would be much more likely to recommend a better diet (especially in the fresh fruits and vegetables) than I would a supplement. Many adults have not gotten all the vaccines that are recommended, and these are a huge benefit to your immune system for those specific bacteria and viruses. *** DEAR DR. ROACH: I am an 81-year-old male in generally good health. I am maybe 10 pounds overweight. I have had no heart attacks or cardiac symptoms. I walk on the treadmill for exercise. I have controlled hypertension, and have been taking simvastatin, 10 mg. My LDL is 71, very favorable. My HDL is also good, at 73. Several years back, when I started the statin, my doctor added Zetia, 10 mg. At the time, I wondered why this would be OK, and he said, “Well, there is a certain synergy there.” While I have continued taking the Zetia and suppose it might be helpful, I wonder if I need it. I say this because it is rather expensive (about $500 a year with my part D coverage). It is the only thing I take that costs me this much. My reading of the literature suggests that while Zetia might help the LDL level, there is no evidence that it improves longevity (i.e. cardiovascular). -- J.P. ANSWER: This is a confusing subject, because the theory (that lowering cholesterol protects your heart) and the evidence (that it actually works) don’t exactly align. High cholesterol certainly is associated with a higher likelihood of heart blockages, which can lead to heart attack and death. However, not all treatments that lower cholesterol reduce risk of heart attack. On the one hand, there are treatments that lower cholesterol that do help your heart. The Mediterranean diet clearly reduces risk of heart attack. Dr. Dean Ornish’s plant-based diet of very little fat and little or no meat, in combination with stress reduction and smoking cessation, actually reverses blockages in arteries in some people. Statin drugs reduce cholesterol and help prevent heart attacks, at least in people at high risk for them. On the other hand, ezetimibe (Zetia) reduces cholesterol, but like most nonstatin drugs to treat high cholesterol, it has not been proven to reduce heart disease risk. It tends to have few side effects and probably is not harmful. But you are correct that it is expensive, and like all medications, it can possibly cause harm. Being conservative about medication, I very rarely prescribe it. Studies are ongoing, and I will readdress this topic when there is more evidence. *** Dr. Roach regrets that he is unable to answer individual letters, but will incorporate them in the column whenever possible. “A ship in the harbor is safe… but that is not what ships are for…” ~ John A. Shedd

A turtle is most safe when all of him is tucked into his shell, but he makes no progress until he sticks his neck out. There is always some hazard in everything we do. If we get up in the morning, we may slip in the shower and break a leg. If we never get out of bed, we may develop bedsores. Life is a constant succession of risk-taking activities. We should not let this dismay us. We should do everything possible to minimize the risks, then go ahead, if we expect to make any progress. Let us explain the advantages of making one’s own funeral arrangements well in advance of need. Phone for an appointment in our office or in the privacy of your own home, if you prefer.

SETTING PRIORITIES Despite the fact that nearly two-thirds (62.5 percent) of Americans acknowledge that it is important to pre-plan their own funerals, less than a quarter (21.4 percent) of them actually follow up these thoughts with action. In fact, for the fifth consecutive year, the National Funeral Directors Association’s annual Consumer Awareness and Preferences Study reveals that, although consumers know that they should make funeral arrangements prior to need, many do not. Among the reasons cited for not doing so include preplanning is not a priority; they have not thought about it; or that prepaying is too costly. It is important to address these and other concerns with family and a funeral director, who helps allay fears and outline a workable plan. Find a funeral home you trust and work with the funeral director to plan your burial or cremation and funeral or memorial service. The funeral director can also help you purchase any goods and services you’ll need for the service. To learn more about our funeral services, please call KEVIN W. DOUGHERTY FUNERAL HOME at (585) 346-5401. Our Livonia and Honeoye, NY, facilities provide a spacious and comfortable atmosphere to share memories of your loved ones. Sign up to receive obituary notifications at: www.doughertyfuneralhomes.com UNDERSTANDING LIFE INSURANCE Deciding if you need coverage. While life insurance seems like the kind of thing every person should have, that’s not necessarily the case. For example, single men and women with no dependents and no tax or debt concerns generally do not need life insurance. If you are single but have tax issues or a considerable amount of debt, then a life insurance policy can be used to pay those debts upon your death. Adults with dependents, such as a spouse and/or children, should consider purchasing life insurance, which can help your surviving dependents maintain their quality of life and pay their bills in the wake of your death.

HOW TO MAINTAIN MENTAL ACUITY Stay socially connected. Maintaining social connections with family, friends and community members also can help women prevent cognitive decline. Epidemiologist Bryan James of the Rush Alzheimer’s Disease Center studied how social activity affected cognitive decline, ultimately noting that the rate of cognitive decline was considerably lower among men and women who maintained social contact than it was among those with low levels of social activity.

Behaviors that may help you reduce your risk for colorectal cancer Colorectal cancer is a formidable foe. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, colorectal cancer is the second leading cancer killer in the United States. Colorectal cancer is similarly lethal in Canada, where the Canadian Cancer Society reports it is the second leading cause of cancer death in men and the third leading among women. Some risks for colorectal cancer are beyond an individual’s control. For example, the CCS notes that a personal or family history of polyps in the colon, rectum or both significantly increases a person’s risk of developing colorectal cancer. Lynch syndrome, a condition caused by gene mutations, causes polyps to develop in the lining of the colon, rectum or both. Since Lynch syndrome is inherited, there is nothing men and women can do to reduce their risk of developing it. Research into colorectal cancer is ongoing, making it difficult for doctors to say certain behaviors or approaches are certain to reduce a person’s risk of developing the disease. But there are certain things individuals can do that might help save them from falling victim to colorectal cancer. • Get screened. The CDC notes that colorectal cancer usually begins when polyps form in the colon or rectum. If they go undetected, these polyps may turn into cancer. Screening can detect polyps early so they are found before they develop into cancer. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends colorectal cancer screening using high-sensitivity fecal occult blood testing, or FOBT; sigmoidoscopy; or colonoscopy for men and women between the ages of 50 and 75. • Embrace physical activity. While men and women who are physically active can still get colorectal cancer, the CCS notes

Phsyical activity may help men and women reduce their risk of developing colorectal cancer. that people who live sedentary lifestyles are at a higher risk of developing the disease than those who are active. • Maintain a healthy weight. According to the CCS, people who are overweight or obese have greater incidence rates of colorectal cancer than those who maintain healthy weights. The CCS also notes that men with a high body mass index, or BMI, seem to be most at risk of developing colorectal cancer. • Limit alcohol consumption. The CDC notes that some studies have shown that limiting alcohol consumption may reduce a person’s risk of developing colorectal cancer. Colorectal cancer is a devastating disease, but men and women who embrace healthy behaviors may be able to lower their risks.

7-year-old Sells Lemonade to Help Mom Cover Back-to-School Costs Written By: Amanda Dudek Story Submitted By: Cowlesville Flea Market

“Mother’s Helper” could apply to many children, but 7-year-old Kade of Avon, NY, has taken helping his mom to another level. Last year, Kade set up his own lemonade stand, called␣Little Rascal’s Lemonade, to help his single mom purchase his school clothes and supplies. The adorable youngster sold lemonade and candy from his stand at the Cowlesville Flea Market, a community sale just 12 minutes west of Darien, NY. His beaming smiles were free-of-charge.

Robert G. Webb D.E.C. Certified • Insured NYS Registered Business • Residential • Commercial

Kade certainly won over the hearts of flea market goers last year. According to his Grandmother, Kade made enough money to pay for his school clothing and supplies and even had extra left over. A responsible young man, Kade, after purchasing a toy, added his extra earnings to his savings. “It warms the heart to see young people helping their parents and taking an active role in the success of their future,” says Cowlesville Flea Market’s communique, adding, “[We] think it’s colossally important to start teaching kids at a young age the value of a dollar and how to budget.” Apparently, Kade has no intention of giving up his active role either. This year, Kade again sent the Cowlesville Flea Market a note, requesting permission to set up his lemonade stand and participate in the 34th␣Cowlesville Flea Market & Strawberry Social. The note was handwritten in Kade’s own delightful, first-grader scrawl. Says Cowlesville Flea Market’s post on social media, “He could have sent a FB message or email, but taking the time to write it out and send it to me just made me smile from ear to ear.” Old-fashioned lemonade␣and␣old-fashioned manners? Kade’s mother must be very proud.

Kade typically sets up his Little Rascal’s Lemonade Stand in the yard of a tall, white house near the corner of Church St & Sargent Rd – 2nd intersection, past the church, on the left side of the street. At the Cowlesville Flea Market, Kade serves regular and strawberry lemonade to patrons from as far away as Rochester and Jamestown, and the Flea Market personnel state they are “expecting he’ll do even better this year.” We certainly hope so. What could be more refreshing than ice-cold lemonade from such a selfless child?

(NAPSI)—For over 40 years, works by famed sculptor Strong-Cuevas have been acclaimed and enjoyed in major museums and private collections. Now, you can have them at your fingertips. That’s because Abrams Books, the premier art book publisher, has created a lavishly illustrated coffee table sized book of 190 of her color and black-and-white drawings, “Strong-Cuevas Drawings: Ideas on Paper.” All the drawings have been thematically arranged and explore recurring themes of Strong-Cuevas’ art. Strong-Cuevas says her work expresses thoughts about universal consciousness, space and time, and inner mediation. Best known for her sculptures made from bronze, stainless steel and aluminum, StrongCuevas’ art often portrays the human head and plays with scale. Her drawings express the same themes. The book also features a foreword by noted art historian and critic Jan Garden Castro, who has written extensively about Georgia O’Keeffe, Louise Bourgeois, Maya Lin, and numerous others. Also published by Abrams is the critically acclaimed “Strong-Cuevas Sculpture: Premonitions in Retrospect,” featuring photos of her sculpture. Learn More: The book is available at Barnes & Noble and online at bn.com, Amazon.com and www.abramsbooks.com.

H O R O SC O P E ARIES (March 21 to April 19) There might still be some uncertainty about the decision you made. But a quick check of the facts should reassure you that you’re doing the right thing. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) The tidy Taurean needs to be a little more flexible about accepting some changes to those carefully made plans. You might be pleasantly surprised by what follows. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) Consider stepping away from your concentrated focus on your new project for a bit so you can get some perspective on what you’ve done and where you plan to take it. CANCER ( June 21 to July 22) The understandably angry Crab might not want to accept the reason why someone might have tried to hurt you. But at least you’ll have an insight into why it happened. LEO ( July 23 to August 22) There might be some facts you still need to know before leaping onto center stage. Best to move carefully at this time so that you can observe what’s happening around you. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) It’s a good time to expand your outlook by getting out and around, whether you do some long-range traveling or just explore the great things to see closer to home. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) Your wise counsel continues to be needed as that family situation works itself out. Meanwhile, the decisions you made on your job begin to pay off quite nicely. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) Your job situation brightens thanks to all your hard work. Now, spend some time repairing a personal relationship you might have neglected for too long. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) Aspects favor action in the workplace. Line up your facts and show your superiors why you’re the one they’re looking for. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) Your hard work pays off on the job. Personal relationships also can benefit from more of your time and attention. Spend the weekend with loved ones. AQUARIUS ( January 20 to February 18) Early feedback on your project might be disappointing. But don’t be discouraged. Use it to make needed adjustments, then submit it to your superiors again. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) Flattery could lure the otherwise sensible Fish into making an unwise decision. Be careful. All that praise might be an attempt to reel you in before you can learn the facts. BORN THIS WEEK: You have a wonderful sense of who you are. You are a shining example to others, helping them believe in themselves and what they can do. (c) 2018 King Features Synd., Inc.

BANISH MOSQUITOES FROM YOUR YARD Inspect property for hidden pockets of water. While bird baths, pet bowls and kiddie pools are easy to find, homeowners may be unknowingly hosting mosquito breeding grounds elsewhere on their properties. For example, tarps used to cover pools, automobiles or grills that are not tightly secured can fold up, creating pockets where rain water can collect and give mosquitoes somewhere to breed. Mosquitoes also may use gutters to breed, so homeowners should routinely inspect and clean their gutters during spring and summer.

Shopping locally is a great w ay to benefit your community and, in many instances, your bottom line. W hen consumers shop locally, they help stimulate their local economies, creating jobs for their neighbors by helping local businesses grow and thrive. Shopping locally also saves shoppers long trips to the mall that can w aste expensive fuel, especially if consumers don’t find w hat they’re looking for. Shopping locally is especially important w hen the economy is struggling, as smaller businesses are not alw ays as capable of bearing the brunt of a recession as larger ones.

OUR TEAM IS READY FOR YOUR CHALLENGE! • Website Design and Maintenance • Networking • Hosted Email • Computer Repair • Server Monitoring/Maintenance 53 Genesee Street, Avon • 226-2526 • www.hurritech.com

While passing through Dansville last Friday, we experienced alternator trouble with a 3-day old alternator! We're grateful to Van Hyning Automotive for replacing the alternator and communicating with the garage who originally replaced it. You rescued our weekend and family reunion. The people of Dansville are fortunate to have such capable mechanics! Thanks to our employers, Steve and Kim for the amazing lunch supplied by Tom Wahl’s Food Truck last week. It is always a summer event we all look forward too. GVPS is a great place to work with many

special perks! Thanks again Steve and Kim. Your GVPS family This past weekend my husband and I were out for a ride on our Harley. We never have a plan when we leave our house except to stop for lunch somewhere different. Some of our stops have been the Glenn Iris Inn in Letchworth Park and Bristol Harbor Golf Course. The views we have seen are amazing. I love to see all the different homes and the gardens and landscaping people take pride in. Letchworth is a beautiful park that has so much to offer. The hills and valleys around us are beautiful. We are

attempts. When you ghost a small rental business (that didn’t even require a deposit) it takes away from someone that actually wanted it. You own a clothing business and you wouldn't like it if someone did that to you! You're the reason rental businesses require deposits.

Next time you make a reservation for something (especially at a small business) have the decency to contact them and let them know you want to cancel. It is extremely rude to book something and then ignore confirmation

Have you ever returned something to the store? Ever wondered what happened to that item afterwards? So many assume it gets put right back on the shelf, but that actually rarely happens. State laws dictate that many (read: most) returned items be trashed. Socks and underwear? Garbage. Any food item? Trash. Any over-the-

so lucky to live in such a beautiful state. If you have the opportunity and time, take a drive outside of your neighborhood and see what you’re missing. I love summer in NY. Thank you to the folks who have local fruit/veggie stands, to share the benefits from their work growing all the fresh produce. Another benefit of small town living!!! Thanks to Coach Jackie for a wonderful U9 Summer Soccer season. The girls progressed beautifully and by the end of the season were a real team! It was a treat to see them come out of their shells, face fears, learn skills

counter meds and vitamins? Dumpster. Swim wear? Gone. The list goes on and on... So if you ever complain about retail waste, know that much of this is the customer's fault. Be sure of what you're buying. Don't purchase a clothing item in 3 sizes to try on at home and return what doesn't fit. That return will probably end up in a landfill with countless other items purchased and returned by thoughtless customers. Think first, and shop consciously. But FREEDOM DOES NOT GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO DO AS YOU PLEASE. It does however, give me the right to be inside my home and not have to

and develop a team bond. Thank you for all your hard work and patience. - Appreciative Parents To whoever planted the gorgeous sunflower field on the way out of Avon, thank you! It’s a bright spot we look forward to passing every day.

listen to bombs going off all around me. I have the right to go to sleep when I so choose, not when you decide to stop making noise that is so loud it’s heard inside of my home with the windows closed. Whether it's fireworks, loud music or whatever else you so thoughtlessly impose upon your neighbors, you are violating my right to have peace and quiet inside of my own home. Since you don’t care how your actions impact others, I won’t feel bad for calling the cops in order to protect MY RIGHT TO BE FREE FROM YOUR THOUGHTLESS AND ILLEGAL ACTIVITY. There are noise and firework laws.

WHAT TO DO WHEN A PROJECT STALLS Ask for help. There’s no shame in asking for help to complete a project. Some homeowners may underestimate the scope of a project until it’s too late. Asking family, friends or neighbors for help might be the only way to get a stalled project back on track. Certain home improvement projects may not require advanced skills, and even friends or family with little or no home improvement experience can pitch in to complete such projects. When more advanced projects stall, homeowners may want to hire contractors to complete the work. If budgets have not left much room for hiring a contractor, homeowners can perform some of the labor on their own.

HOW TO CONSERVE WATER AT HOME Fix leaky faucets. Leaky faucets in a home might not seem like they waste much water each day. However, the U.S. Geological Survey estimates that a single home with three leaky faucets that each produce one drip per minute will waste 104 gallons of water per year from these faucets alone. This waste is easily prevented by simply fixing leaky faucets the moment drips are noticed.

ROOFING & SIDING DID YOU KNOW? According to the U.S. Department of Energy, well-designed landscapes can save homeowners enough energy to make the projects pay for themselves in less than eight years. The DOE notes that homeowners’ landscaping strategies should be dictated by the climates in which they live. For example, homeowners who live in hot, arid regions should employ landscapes to shade their homes’ walls, windows and roof, while those who live in cool regions should make sure their landscapes are not blocking the winter sun from reaching their homes’ south-facing windows. The DOE also advises that shading is the most cost-effective way to reduce solar heat gain in a home, noting that well-planned landscapes can reduce previously unshaded homes’ air conditioning costs by as much as 50 percent. The DOE also notes that, in treeshaded neighborhoods, summer daytime air temperature can be up to six degrees cooler than the air temperature in treeless areas. Homeowners considering adding trees to their landscapes should know that deciduous trees shed their leaves annually, which means they will block solar heat in the summer but allow sunlight into the home in winter. That’s ideal for homeowners who live in regions where temperatures climb in summertime but drop considerably in winter. Homeowners who want year-round shade might consider evergreen trees and shrubs.

CARE FOR TOOLS PROPERLY Homeowners often choose to save money and learn valuable skills by doing their own home improvement projects. These minor or major renovations are made much more successful by having the right tools for the job. Investing in good tools can be smart, but those tools are only effective if they are accessible and in good repair. Homeowners who emphasize taking care of their tools can make DIY projects that much easier and more rewarding.

STAY SAFE WHEN GARDENING IN HOT WEATHER Gardening is widely considered as relaxing a hobby as it is rewarding. Although gardening when temperatures are mild, such as in spring and fall, can be relaxing, gardening can be much more physically taxing and even dangerous when temperatures rise during the dog days of summer. Gardens need tending even when temperatures outside are especially hot, so gardeners must take steps to protect their health when working in their gardens during the summer.

According to the Fortune 500 list, 2015 tied the record set for the highest number of female CEOs in America’s largest companies by revenue. Twenty-four women, including Mary Barra of General Motors, Meg Whitman of Hewlett-Packard and Ginny Rometty of IBM, made the list. Although women make up 45 percent of the labor force and only 5 percent head Fortune 500 companies, women are making greater strides than ever before. For example, in 1998, just one woman led a Fortune 500 company, according to Pew Research Center.

WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A TEAM PLAYER The ability to communicate, interact and work collectively with others is both a professional and personal asset. But in certain ways, the reliance on technology has made working as a team more complicated. People have grown accustomed to spending large quantities of time alone working at computers or on phones and tablets, potentially compromising their ability to work directly with others when the need arises. According to Monster.com, when it comes to choosing a candidate for a new job or promotion, employers consistently say they want a team player. That means it’s advantageous for professionals looking to further their careers to brush up on their team-building and social skills.
